Jack Spillers Sr.

1934-2004

Jack Spillers Sr., 69, of Casper died June 13 of pancreatic cancer.

He was born Aug. 23, 1934, in Shreveport, La., the son of Easter and Charles D. Spillers.

After being raised and educated in the West Monroe, La., area, he joined the Air Force in 1952. On June 16, 1956, he married Frances I. Reed at Scott Air Force Base, Ill.

He served in the military during the Korean conflict, Thule, Greenland and three tours of duty in Vietnam (1968-1972); he received the Bronze Star. He also served in England. The interim years were served at assignments in South Dakota, Illinois, California, Florida and F.E. Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne.

After retiring from the military service in 1972, he became manager for Avon Moving and Storage (Bekins) in Cheyenne. In 1976, he moved to Casper to open a Bekins agency. He later drove long distance for Davis Transport in Missoula, Mont., and received a million-mile award. He criss-crossed the United States and Canada many times.

After retiring in 1999, he enjoyed being home with his family. He was an avid Broncos and Rockies fan. The grandchildren were his pride and joy.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years; a daughter, Cynthia Barger of Dalhart, Texas; two sons, De Wayne Spillers of Cheyenne and Jack Spillers Jr. of Casper; two brothers, C.D. Spillers and Ed Spillers of West Monroe, La.; three sisters, Carolyn Webb of Mesquite, Texas, Barbara Hollis of West Monroe and Vicky Frazier of Ruston, La.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. today at Oregon Trail State Veterans cemetery in Evansville with the Rev. Leonard Robinson officiating.

Friends may contribute to Central Wyoming Hospice Program, 319 South Wilson, Casper, WY 82601.

Newcomer Family Funeral Home and Crematory will be in charge of the arrangements.

Jacob J. Day

1916-2004

Jacob John Day, 87, of Medicine Bow died June 16 at his home.

He was born in Rock Valley, Iowa, on Aug. 26, 1916, the son of Andrew and Minnie (Swartz) Dey. He enjoyed rodeo and ranching.

He worked over the years at Warren Livestock, which is now Belvoir Ranch in Cheyenne. He also operated heavy equipment as he worked road construction all around Wyoming.

He married Lauretta Meyer.

He is survived by his wife, Lauretta Day of Medicine Bow; three daughters, Beverly English of Casper, Linda Summer of Cheyenne and Mary Kay Kindt of Glenrock; two sons, Paul Day of Thermopolis and Joe Day of Medicine Bow; two sisters, Donna Garvey of Soda Springs, Wis., and Clarice Gieger of Wheatland; a brother, Robert Dey of Wheatland; 20 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, James Day; a stepson, Emil Stout; his parents, Andrew and Minnie Dey; and a brother, Neil Dey.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Medicine Bow Baptist Church with the Pastor Bill Massey officiating.

Friends may contribute to the Medicine Bow Senior Citizen Center, 314 Sage St., Medicine Bow, WY 82329.

Services are under the direction of Montgomery-Stryker Funeral Home in Laramie.

James L. Ogren

1946-2004

James L. Ogren, 57, of Pueblo, Colo., died May 31 at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Denver.

He was born July 5, 1946, in Laramie and had lived in Pueblo for three years.

Mr. Ogren served in the Navy during Vietnam.

He is survived by a sister, Karen Gannon of Tucson, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Lois Ogren.

Graveside services for the interment of his urn will be 2 p.m. Friday at Beth El cemetery with Chaplain Ron Shell officiating.

Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Honor Guard.

Services are under the direction of Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes.

Joyce A. Girardot

1944-2004

Joyce Ann (Hardy) Girardot, 59, of Rawlins died June 9 at her home after a long illness.

Joyce Ann was born June 10, 1944, to Adah (Hunt) Hardy and the late George Allen (Blackie) Hardy III.

Joyce Ann married Coy Girardot on May 11, 1973, in California. They moved to Wyoming that fall and made Rawlins their home in 1977. He survives at the home.

Joyce Ann worked for Anthony's, Perkins Conoco and the City of Rawlins from 1990 until 2002, when she retired due to illness. Joyce Ann worked as the range master for a recreation center, at which she was very instrumental in getting all the different shooting leagues started, making full use of the indoor shooting range. Joyce Ann worked hard with the Great Divide Shooting Club to get the new outdoor shooting range. Joyce Ann was a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church, Rawlins Rough Riders Snowmobile Club, Carbon County Chapter of the American Red Cross, Rawlins Rock Hounds and The Great Divide Shooting Club.

Her mother, Adah Hunt, and stepmother, Julia T. (Cordova) Hardy, survive Joyce Ann. Other survivors include a son, Greg Murphy of Rawlins and his children, Marissa and Nathaniel; a daughter, Tricia Sue (Girardot) Lee, son-in-law David and their children, Cody, Annett and Joshua of Ashton, Idaho; two sisters, Pat Hardy and fianc‚ Jim Womach of Simi Valley, Calif., and Susan Angerhofer and husband Larry of Stephinville, Texas; two brothers, Gary Hardy and wife Judy of Simi Valley and John Hardy of Joplin, Mont.; aunt Vera and uncle Donald Brinkman of Ryan Park; a cousin, Donald Brinkman Jr. and wife Connie and their children, Donald Edward Brinkman and James Brinkman, all of Cheyenne; and many special nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Joyce Ann was preceded in death by her father, George Allen (Blackie) Hardy III; a grandfather, Roy E. Hunt; and a grandmother, Bertha M. (Hunt) Decker of Rawlins.

A memorial Mass will be 2 p.m. today at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Rawlins with Deacon Jesus Juarez officiating. The body has been taken for cremation.

Joyce Ann enjoyed meeting and working with people, hunting, fishing and finding arrowheads. She was a diligent worker, caring mother, grandmother and devoted wife.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contribution be made to the American Lung Association.

Her thoughts and dreams are of her family and all the friends she worked with to get the Outdoor Shooting Range.

Margaret McPherson

1915-2004

Margaret McPherson, 89, a longtime resident of Cheyenne, died June 1 in Highlands Ranch, Colo.

Mrs. McPherson was born April 1, 1915, in Evanston and attended public school in Wyoming and Utah. She graduated from the University of Wyoming in 1935. She married Rodney McPherson in 1946.

She is survived by a son, J.R. and daughter-in-law Ellen McPherson; a niece, Joanne Edenfield; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Mrs. McPherson was preceded in death by a husband, Rodney; and a sister, Virginia Milns.

Memorial services were held June 4 in Littleton, and interment will be in Rawlins.

Friends may contribute in her memory to the Colorado Alzheimer's Association.

Erin M. Collins

1984-2004

Erin Maureen Collins, 19, formerly of Cheyenne, passed away in her sleep at her home in Centreville, Va., on June 11.

She was born at Memorial Hospital in Cheyenne on Nov. 16, 1984, to Thomas C. Collins of Cheyenne and Casey McDonald Nottage of Centreville.

Erin attended Henderson Elementary School and Cheyenne Central High School and graduated from Osborne Park High School in Manassas, Va., in June 2002.

She was a teacher for The Little Scientist in Chantilly, Va.

She is survived by her mother, Casey McDonald Nottage of Centreville; her father, Thomas C. Collins of Cheyenne; two sisters, Monica Lopez and Colleen Flores of Laramie; two brothers, Daniel T. Gartrell and Paul E. Buttner of Virginia; four aunts, Marsha Buono of Portland, Ore., Janie Burchartz of Chula Vista, Calif., Sr. Donna Collins of Dayton, Ohio, and Kandi Nottage of Denver.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Colonel Paul and Mrs. Jean Nottage of Cheyenne and Robert and Catherine Collins of Dayton; two uncles, Michael James Nottage of Denver and Ronald Collins of Dayton; and a nephew, Branden Piper Buttner of Chantilly.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Advent Funeral and Cremation Services, 7211 Lee Highway, Falls Church, Va. 22046.

Services will be conducted by Pastor David Goodpasture of Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church.

Friends may contribute to the Branden Piper Buttner Children's Fund at Pleasant Valley Methodist Church, 43987 John Mosby Highway, Chantilly, VA 20152.

Martha L. Welch

1929-2004

Martha Lee (Wilson) Welch, 75, of Perris, Calif., died May 31 at her home.

She was born Jan. 25, 1929, in Chanute, Kan., to Earl and Hazel Wilson.

The family moved to Cheyenne in 1941.

Martha graduated from Cheyenne High School in 1947. She met Donald Welch, who was stationed at F.E. Warren Air Force Base, and they married Dec. 31, 1947. She was a military wife for 24 years and then was a management service officer for the University of California-Riverside for 27 years, retiring in 1988.

She is survived by her husband, Donald of California; three daughters, Christine (Gary) Benoit, Hazel Welch-Bieser and Kathy (Spencer) Skipworth, all of California; a sister, Peggy Splane; three brothers, Gene and Mack Wilson of Cheyenne and Lloyd Wilson of Texas; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Eileen Davis of Powell; and three brothers, Eldean, Gary and Tuffy Wilson of Cheyenne.

Services were held at Nuevo Community Church in Nuevo Calif. interment was at Riverside National cemetery in Riverside, Calif.

Thomas J. Landrum

1925-2004

Thomas J. Landrum, 79, of Cheyenne died June 15 at Kindred Hospital in Denver.

He was born April 12, 1925, in Shreveport, La., and had lived here for more than 60 years.

He was a printer for the Wyoming Tribune-Eagle.

Mr. Landrum was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and Gold Prospectors Association of America.

Mr. Landrum is survived by his wife of 50 years, Lucille Landrum of Cheyenne; two daughters and sons-in-law, Abby and Chris G. Beckman of Albin and Donna L. and Rick Westmoreland of Ward, Colo.; a grandchild, Aimee Channel of Cheyenne; and a great-grandchild, Cory Channel of Cheyenne.

He was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Lora and Moses Landrum; and a brother, Rodney Landrum.

Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes. Private interment of his urn will take place at Beth El cemetery at a later time.

Family will receive friends at the American Legion Post #6, 2001 East Lincolnway immediately following the services.

Friends may contribute to the Audubon Society.

Alice E. Pradel

1930-2004

Alice E. Pradel, 73, of Cheyenne died June 19 at United Medical Center-West.

She was born Oct. 10, 1930, in Atchison, Kan., and had lived here since 1989.

Mrs. Pradel was a technician for Hunterdon Development Center in Clinton, N.J., for 20 years.

She is survived by her husband, Robert H. Pradel of Cheyenne; six sons, Gerald Fryman, Kenneth Fryman, Mike Inman, Bill Inman, Dan Inman and James Inman, all of Cheyenne; a daughter, Patti Mathews of Cheyenne; a brother, Marshall Moppin of Plate City, Mo.; a sister, Mammie Hedrick of Baldwin City, Kan.; 14 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jessie and Laura Moppin; and a brother, Walter Andy Moppin.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes with the Rev. Delbert Hansen officiating.

Cremation will follow at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens.

Dona B. Huffsmith

1930-2004

Dona B. Hirsch Huffsmith, 73, of Cheyenne passed away June 18 in Cheyenne.

Dona was born Aug. 24, 1930, in Milliken, Colo., daughter of Chester and Marcia Taylor.

In 1948, she married Eugene M. "Gene" Hirsch and had four children. Dona and Gene were happily married for 40 years when Gene passed away.

A few years later, Dona was blessed to meet Donald A. Huffsmith, whom she married on Feb. 10, 1990. They were married for 14 years.

Dona retired in 1990 from Johnson Junior High School, where she was an educational assistant.

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Francis E. Self Unit 6 for 33 years. She served as president during the bicentennial year, as District 6 president and served several terms as chaplain. She was also a member of the Past President Parley, historian for the Department of Wyoming American Legion Auxiliary and publicity chairwoman and national page at the national convention on a number of occasions. She served all offices and chairmanships in her unit. She never tired of serving in any capacity of the American Legion Auxiliary. She also was a member of The Cupid Collectors Club. She was a precinct committeewoman under Gov. Ed Herschler for two terms.

Dona is preceded in death by her late husband, Eugene M. "Gene" Hirsch; a sister, Dorothy Ambrose; her parents, Chester and Marcia Taylor; her stepmother, Laura Taylor; and a grandson, Jeffrey Hirsch.

She is survived by her loving husband, Donald A. Huffsmith of Cheyenne; her children, Randall Hirsch and wife Gere of Little Rock, Ark., Bruce Hirsch and wife Cathy of Kissimmee, Fla., Richard Hirsch and wife Georgia of Cheyenne and Dona "Denise" Porto of Joliet, Ill.; three stepchildren, Donald A. Huffsmith and wife Cathy of Chatsworth, Calif., Dana Dack and husband Mike of Ashville, N.C., and Rhonda Huffsmith of Laramie; a brother, Chester Taylor and wife Kaye of Cave Junction, Ore.; and three sisters, Doris Bonds of Aurora, Colo., Dolores Glaser of Cheyenne and Shirley Kugler of Paxton, Neb.

Dona was a proud grandmother of Jason Hirsch of Colorado Springs, Colo., Gary Hirsch and wife Nicole of Castle Rock, Colo., Kevin Hirsch of Omaha, Neb., Tara Semler of Joliet, Eric Hirsch of Cheyenne, Andrea Hirsch of Little Rock, Anthony Porto of Joliet, Taylor Porto of Joliet, Angela and husband Frankie Spiegelberg of Laramie, Shannon Huffsmith of Fort Collins, Colo., and Aaron and wife Elizabeth Huffsmith of Laramie.

She was the boasting great-grandmother of Austin and Dylan Hirsch of Cheyenne, Andrew and Michael Heninger of Joliet and Heath, Braeden and Kelton Spiegelberg of Laramie.

She is blessed with the extended family of Geraldine "Hirsch" O'Neil and family, Wilma "Hirsch" Rose and family, LaVerne Hirsch and family, Alaine "Hirsch" Tracy and family, Karrie "Hirsch" Warrell and family and Wayne Hirsch and family.

Services will be 1 p.m. today at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes.

Pallbearers will be Ronald Glaser, David Glaser, Jarrod Tracy, Edwin Glaser, Timothy Kugler and Clint Jessen.

Friends may contribute to Hospice.
