Edward L. Malinowski

1939-2004

Edward "Ed" L. Malinowski, 65, of Cheyenne died Sept. 12 in Cheyenne.

He was born July 27, 1939, in Edson, Wis.

Mr. Malinowski was a truck driver for Marten Transportation.

He married Mae Ann Bremseth on Dec. 4, 1987, in Hesperia, Calif.

He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and North American Hunting Club.

He is survived by his wife, Mae Ann Malinowski of Cheyenne; five sons, David Malinowski of Milladore, Wis., Doug Malinowski of Ohio, James Reinhardt of Longmont, Colo., Duane Malinowski-Boyle of Boise, Idaho, and Leon Malinowski of Roundup, Mont.; a daughter, Debra Jean Malinowski of Chicago; two brothers, Frank Malinowski of Jump River-Sheldon, Wis., and Donald Malinowski of Thorp, Wis.; a sister, Pat Maxwell of Fort Collins, Colo.; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Rose Malinowski, and a brother, Andrew Malinowski.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. today at Schrader Chapel with the Rev. Mary Jo Koehler officiating.

Cremation has taken place at Schrader's Sunset Park Crematory.

G.W. Holtzclaw

1921-2004

G.W. Holtzclaw, 82, of Torrington died Sept. 15 at the Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff, Neb.

Mr. Holtzclaw was born Nov. 22, 1921, in Osmond, Neb., to George and Faye (Dean) Holtzclaw.

He grew attended school in Osmond and then went into farming for a short time.

Mr. Holtzclaw worked on construction in Kansas before entering the Army during during World War II; he served in the United States, including Alaska.

After his discharge, he moved to Sunrise, where he worked for CF&I Mines.

He married Blanche Bay on Sept. 4, 1945, and the couple moved to Fort Laramie. His wife died in 1976, and he continued to work for CF&I until he retired in 1982.

Mr. Holtzclaw married Joan Young in Torrington, and the couple moved to Prescott Valley, Ariz. His wife died in 1992, and he returned to Torrington in 1993.

He is survived by a daughter, Susan Lewis of Elko, Nev.; a son, Rex Holtzclaw of Cheyenne; a sister, Ardith Stingley; two granddaughters; and two great-grandchildren.

Mr. Holtzclaw was preceded in death by his parents; both wives; three sisters; and five brothers.

Graveside memorial services wil be 10 a.m. Friday at the Fort Laramie cemetery in Fort Laramie. The Rev. Mary Jellison will officiate.

Cremation has taken place.

Friends may contribute to the American Cancer Society.

Arrangements are under the direction of Colyer Funeral Home.

Gilbert DeHerrera

1917-2004

Gilbert DeHerrera, 87, of Cheyenne died Sept. 13 in Cheyenne.

He was born April 3, 1917, in Costilla, N.M., and had lived here since 1996 with prior residence in Rawlins. He went to school and worked on the family farm in Costilla until 1935. He then served in the Civilian Conservation Corps for nine months in Lordsburg, N.M. He later served in the Navy during World War II.

Mr. DeHerrera came to Rock Springs and Kemmerer to work in the coal mines and later moved to Rawlins to work for the Union Pacific Railroad, where he retired after 32 years. After retirement, he obtained yard jobs to stay busy and keep him physically active. He was known for his hard working hands, his beautiful gardens and being one of the best pitchers in the adult baseball league in Rawlins and Rock Springs.

He is survived by his wife, Mary DeHerrera, whom he married on Aug. 21, 1937, in Costilla; six daughters, Mary Sanchez, Ruth Gonzales, Gloria Horne, Angie Watson, Esther Herrera and Betty Jo Tollis; two sons, Leo DeHerrera and Abe DeHerrera; one brother, Levi DeHerrera; four sisters, Virginia Trujillo, Ruth Arellano, Lucille Trujillo and Lila Abeyta; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Mike DeHerrera; two sisters, Rosalia Guerule and Lorraine Serrano; four grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Mr. DeHerrera loved boxing, fishing, gardening, playing cards, walking and sitting outside on warm days.

Funeral Liturgy will be at 9 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Cathedral with the Rev. Gary Ruzicka as the celebrant.

Interment will be in Beth El cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Michael Pantalone, Gabriel Herrera, Bryan Watson, Stephen Gonzales, Dino Sanchez and Aaron Rutz.

Friends may contribute to St. Mary's School.

John C. Miller Jr.

1918-2004

John C. Miller Jr., 86, of Cheyenne died Sept. 15 at Mountain Towers Healthcare and Rehabilitation.

He was born March 14, 1918, in Edwardsville, Ill., and lived here since 1986.

Mr. Miller served in the Army and retired from the Army Reserves as a colonel. He served in World War II and was awarded a Bronze Star during the Battle of the Bulge. He was recalled to active duty during the Korean conflict.

Mr. Miller was a station manager for the U.S. Postal Service for 32 years.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Shriners, Eastern Star, Masonic Lodge and American Legion. He also was an avid bowler.

Mr. Miller is survived by a son, Richard "Rick" Miller of Laramie; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Miller on Nov. 6, 1998; his parents, John C. and Hanna Miller Sr.; and a sister, Pauline Diamond.

Memorial services will be 3:30 p.m. Friday at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes with the Rev. Robert Garrard officiating.

Cremation has taken place at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens.

Friends may contribute to the Cheyenne Animal Shelter.

Linda L. Norman

1947-2004

Linda L. Norman, 56, of Cheyenne died Sept. 14 in Cheyenne.

She was born Nov. 29, 1947, in Basin.

She was a deputy secretary of state for Thyra Thomson. She recently worked for Wyoming Business Council.

She married Derrell C. Norman on Dec. 21, 1983, in Cheyenne.

She was a graduate of the University of Wyoming, majoring in political science.

Mrs. Norman was a member of St. Christopher's Episcopal Church, Chapter S, PEO, Laramie County Republican Women's Club, past state president of State Republican Women, UMC Medical Auxiliary. She also was a past state president board member of National Federation of Republican Women, on the Cheyenne Symphony board and a recipient of Republican Ellie Award.

She is survived by her husband, Derrell C. Norman of Cheyenne; a son, Derrell J. Norman of Seattle; her parents, George and Myra Haack of Mesa, Ariz., and a brother, Ray Haack of Apache Junction, Ariz.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Schrader Funeral Home.

Memorial services will be 3 p.m. Saturday at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church.

Cremation will take place at Schrader's Sunset Park Crematory.

Friends may contribute to St. Christopher's Episcopal Church, 2602 Deming Blvd., Cheyenne, WY 82001; or UMC Hospice, 214 E. 23rd St., Cheyenne, WY 82001.

Romaine S. Harding

1919-2004

Romaine S. Harding, 85, died Sept. 13 at her home in Cheyenne.

She was born May 18, 1919, in Fort Collins, Colo., to Mr. and Mrs. Ray Brown. She attended school in Fort Collins, Wheatland and graduated from Eaton (Colo.) High School. She then graduated from Colorado Women's College in Denver.

She married Lt. George Harding on April 27, 1941, in Eaton. After George's discharge from the Army, they returned to Wyoming to ranch in the Meriden area from 1945 until 1979, when they moved to Cheyenne.

Mrs. Harding was a devoted member of the Order of Eastern Star in Pine Bluffs Chapter 29 and Burns Chapter 47 for more than 55 years. She served as Worthy Grand Matron of Wyoming in 1971-1972. Traveling to Eastern Star meetings throughout Wyoming and the nation was the highlight of her life. She remained actively involved until her illness prevented her participation, but her love for the organization continued to the last day of her life.

Mrs. Harding was also a member of Daughters of the Nile in Rawlins and Beta Sigma Phi. She served as coordinator of the American Cancer Society's "Road to Recovery" Drivers Program for 21 years.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Chip Harding; a daughter, Nancy (Harding) Henry of Granby, Colo.brother, Boyd Brown of Nashville; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in the Schrader Chapel with Charlie Henry officiating. Interment will be in Beth El cemetery.

Pallbearers are Cody Harding, Jed Henry, Kevin Henry, Frank Chambers, Bruce Haston and C.W. "Butch" Loveridge.

Theodore V. Martin

1917-2004

Theodore Vernon Martin, 87, of Cheyenne died Sept. 14 in Cheyenne.

He was born March 4, 1917, in Bucklin, Kan., and lived here since 1984.

He served in the Navy during World War II in the Pacific, Middle East and the Battle of Anzio.

He carried tankers with fuel to England and down the Irish River. When World War II was over, he tried to re-enter into the Navy and Army but was medically disqualified. He then joined the Merchant Marines.

Mr. Martin majored in animal husbandry at Kansas State University.

He was a manufacturing representative, county agent, implement dealer and tested and analyzed soils.

Mr. Martin is survived by two daughters, Connie Giliotti of Breckenridge, Colo., and Karen Martin of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a brother, James Martin of Ninilchik, Alaska; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Martin; his parents, Frank and Florence Martin; and three brothers, Oscar Martin, Howard Martin and George Martin.

Cremation has taken place at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens under the direction of Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes.

Ray D. Oxendine

1944-2004

Ray Douglas Oxendine, 60, of Cheyenne died Oct. 8 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

He was born Feb. 2, 1944, in Cherryville, Mo.

Mr. Oxendine was a truck driver and served during Vietnam in the Army.

He is survived by his mother, Stella Swyers of La Grange, Texas; a brother, James A. Oxendine of Cheyenne; and a nephew.

Cremation has taken place at Schrader's Sunset Park Crematory. Private memorial services will be held at a later date.

Shailynne Manning

1989-2004

Shailynne Manning, 15, of Cheyenne died Oct. 6 at the Life Care Center of Cheyenne as a result of injuries sustained in an accident in Fort Collins, Colo., on Sept. 6.

She was born Sept. 16, 1989, in Rock Springs, the daughter of Don and Kelly (Garcia) Manning. She was reared and educated in Rock Springs, Casper and Cheyenne. She was attending Johnson Junior High in Cheyenne. She was a member of the school choir and enjoyed 4-wheeling, camping, music and her many friends.

She is survived by her father, Don D. Manning of Cheyenne; her mother, Kelly Garcia of Casper; a sister, Shanda Daly of Cheyenne; her paternal grandfather, Don Manning of Lusk; her paternal grandmother, Patricia Bitner of Joplin, Mo.; her maternal grandfather, Sam Garcia of Rock Springs; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and a great-grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Deival Garcia.

Serving as pallbearers will be Dennis Lauck, Tyler Lauck, Kerry West, Justin Rice, Ryan Rice and Gilbert Garcia.

Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in the Wheatland cemetery with Pastor Craig Cagle of Memorial Baptist Church officiating.

Memorials can be made to the Shailynne Manning Memorial Fund, in care of First State Bank, P.O. Box 39, Wheatland, WY 82201-0039.

Gorman Funeral Homes-Platte Chapel of Wheatland is in charge of the arrangements.

Darlene I. Stephenson

1923-2004

Darlene Ione Stephenson, 80, died Nov. 13 at Mesa View Regional Hospital.

She was born Nov. 16, 1923, in Mankato, Kan., to Cecil C. and Verna Greene Dunn.

Mrs. Stephenson married Joseph Richard Stephenson on Aug. 2, 1966, in Rawlins.

She attended school in Lyons, Colo., Longmont, Colo., and Steamboat Springs, Colo. In the early 1940s, she went to work at Douglas Aircraft where she riveted B-17 airplanes.

After the war years, she worked as a waitress at exclusive clubs and resorts in Colorado, Arizona and Wyoming. In the early 1960s, she worked as a waitress at the Saratoga Inn Country Club.

Mrs. Stephenson then went to work as a waitress and hostess at the newly opened Old Baldy Club in Saratoga. She served the first meal at the Old Baldy Club, where she would work for 21 years until she retired in 1984.

She is survived by her husband, Joseph R. Stephenson of Mesquite, Nev.; a daughter, Laurena Nixon, of Kingston, Nev., a stepdaughter , Merle Ann Meredith of Westminster, Colo.; a stepson, Gary L. Stephenson of Cheyenne; a brother, Aulden Dunn of Cheyenne; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Stephenson was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.

The family requests, in lieu of flowers and cards, donations to the Saratoga Volunteer Fire Department in her memory. Donations should be mailed to: P.O. Box 96, Saratoga, WY 82331. Arrangements are under the direction of Virgin Valley Mortuary.
