Gladys R. Gerzetich

1920-2005

Gladys R. Gerzetich, 84, of Cheyenne died March 11 at Cheyenne Healthcare Center.

She was born Sept. 15, 1920, in Cheyenne and lived here all of her life.

Mrs. Gerzetich is survived by a son, Dale Gerzetich of Cheyenne; and a granddaughter, Janell Brantley of Houston.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rudy Gerzetich on July 20, 1976; and a sister, Violet Gerardi.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Rugged Cross Chapel in Cheyenne Memorial Gardens with the Rev. J.D. Megason officiating.

Interment will be in Cheyenne Memorial Gardens.

Friends may contribute to the Cheyenne Animal Shelter.

Warren P. Jackson

1912-2005

Warren Pedrick Jackson, 93, died March 14 at United Medical Center-West in Cheyenne.

Mr. Jackson was born March 3, 1912, in Ottumwa, Iowa, the son of Lacy Grant "Al" and Susie (Pedrick) Jackson. The family moved to Iowa Flats near Chugwater when he was three months old. He was reared and educated at Iowa Flats, graduating from Iowa Center High School. He was a rancher and farmer his entire life.

Mr. Jackson married Ruth N. Young on June 17, 1938, in Cheyenne.

He was a member of the Chugwater United Methodist Church, member and past master of Chugwater Masonic Lodge AF & AM No. 25, member and past president of Goshen County Stock Growers, member of Iowa Center Grange and served on both Iowa Center and Chugwater school boards.

He is survived by four children, Virgil Jackson and Dan Jackson, both of Chugwater, Gary Jackson of Minnetonka, Minn., and Donna Short of Gresham, Ore.; two sisters, Roberta Rhoades of Chugwater and Carol Haydon of La Verne, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruth, on May 31; a brother, Paul Jackson; and a sister, Maureen Enix.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Gorman Funeral Homes-Platte Chapel of Wheatland.

Services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Chugwater United Methodist Church in Chugwater with Pastor Skip Perry officiating. Interment will be in the Chugwater cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Eric Short, Quentin Jackson, Craig Jackson, Derek Jackson, Kurt Braisted and Cary Uhrich. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerrene Braisted, Roxanne Uhrich, Karly Jackson, Megan Jackson and Hailey Short.

Friends may contribute to Goshen County Stock Growers, in care of Charlotte Steben, 5852 Road 53, Torrington, WY 82240 or Chugwater FFA Chapter, 406 5th St., Chugwater, WY 82210.

Gorman Funeral Homes-Platte Chapel of Wheatland is in charge of the arrangements.

Werner D. Kranz

1923-2005

Werner D. Kranz, 81, of Cheyenne died March 11 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

He was born June 7, 1923, in Carpenter.

Mr. Kranz was an Army veteran of World War II.

He was a bookkeeper at Blue Cross-Blue Shield.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Mr. Kranz is survived by five nephews, Edward A. and Ivan L. Kranz, both of Carpenter, Albert E. Kranz of Pine Bluffs and Don A. Kranz and Paul McLaury, both of Cheyenne; six nieces, Barbara A. Ittig of Hemet, Calif., Leona L. Buhlmann of Elwood, Neb., Jane E. Rich of Powell Butte, Ore., Esther Lewis and Shirley Rose, both of Cheyenne, and Elsie Bettge of Knoxville, Tenn; and numerous great-nephews and great-nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William C. and Anna (Wegner) Kranz; and two brothers, William O. Kranz and Walter G. Kranz.

The funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church. The Rev. David Caspersen will officiate. Burial will be at Burns Lutheran cemetery.

The pallbearers are Lavern Kranz, Rodney Kranz, James E. Jacob, Greg Sneesby, Van Lemaster and Ed Atchison.

Doreen M. Gonzales

1947-2005

Doreen M. Gonzales, 57, of Cheyenne passed away March 18 in Wheatland.

She was born Aug. 12, 1947, in Helena, Mont., to Jordon and Doris Cole.

She married Ruben Gonzales Jr. and moved to Cheyenne.

She was a baker for many years at Albertsons and later became a homemaker and dedicated provider to her granddaughter, Brittany Tenorio.

Doreen is survived by her seven children and their spouses, Robin, Troy and Michelle Gonzales, Jeff Gonzales and his wife Anna Marie Davis, Tammy and Kelly Rayls, Jana Gonzales and Roberto Chan, Connie Gonzales and Lawrance Gallegos, all of Cheyenne and Timothy Gonzales of Montana; and her grandchildren, Craig, Andrea, Ashley, Pamela, Nicholas, Brandie, Corey, Kellie, Richard, Thomas, Shainy and Erica Gonzales, Joseph, Jefferey and Jasmine Varos, Maryea, Ceaira and Dominic Gallegos; and great-granddaughter, Vanessa Gonzales; her father and stepmother, Jordan and Irene Cole; three brothers; and one sister.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Gina M. Gonzales, in 2002; one son, Roddy Gonzales in 1967; her mother, Doris Cole; and her companion, John Szewczyk.

At the family's request, private services will be held.

Jeffrey A. Salazar

1955-2005

Jeffrey Anthony Salazar, 49, of Cheyenne died March 15 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

He was born Oct. 15, 1955, in Wheatland and lived here most of his life.

Mr. Salazar served in the U.S. Army.

He was a mechanic and a member of Disabled American Veterans.

He is survived by three brothers, Timothy Salazar of Arizona, Jonathan Salazar of Copperas Cove, Texas, and Benjamin Salazar of Fort Collins, Colo.; and two sisters, Christine Griffith of White Sulphur Springs, Mont., and Lilian Ward of Helena, Mont.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Mary Salazar.

Cremation has taken place at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens under the direction of Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes.

June R. Short

1920-2005

June Rose Short, 84, of Cheyenne died March 21 at Cheyenne Healthcare Center.

She was born May 26, 1920, in Amherst, Neb., and had lived here since 1940.

Mrs. Short was a member of Pine Bluffs Methodist Church and Royal Neighbors.

She is survived by her husband, Max Short of Fort Lupton, Colo.; five children, Danny Merle Brammeier of Carpenter, Susan Rose Miller of Chappell, Neb., Marjorie Lynn Zitek of Burns, Norma June Ayars of Grover, Colo., and Angela Braden of Ashtabula, Ohio; three stepchildren, Dennis Short of Tennessee, Kim Short of Fort Lupton, Colo., and Greg Short of Cheyenne; a brother, Kent Wilson of Texas; a sister, Norma Day of Mount Pleasant, Texas; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Sarah Wilson, and a sister, Lois Lichty.

Cremation has taken place at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens under the direction of Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes.

Friends may contribute to Cheyenne Healthcare Center.

Leona G. Havely

1902-2005

Leona Gladys Havely, 102, died March 18 at Monterey Park Nursing Center in Independence, Mo.

She was born Nov. 9, 1902, near South English, Iowa, the daughter of John H. and Grace (Campbell) Fry.

Mrs. Havely received her elementary education in a country school one mile from her home. After graduating from the eighth grade, she attended high school in Sigourney, Iowa. In the spring of 1919, her parents sold the farm and moved west to Slater, Iowa.

She graduated from Wheatland High School with the class of 1920 and taught in rural schools near her Slater home for three years.

On April 7, 1923, she married Herbert D. Havely in Wheatland. She was baptized and confirmed into the reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1931.

Mrs. Havely and her husband farmed and ranched at Slater until 1974 when they moved into Wheatland. In April 1989 she moved to Missouri, fulfilling her lifelong desire to live in the place of Zion according to her belief. She was a hard working and loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

She was known as a wonderful cook, baker and gardener.

Mrs. Havely enjoyed reading Scriptures and telling others of her love of the Lord.

She wrote many poems in her later life and loved ones were blessed with the many cards and letters that she enjoyed writing.

Mrs. Havely is survived by six children, Grace Saylor of Wheat Ridge, Colo., Gladys Geis of Oberlin, Kan., Wilda Edwards of Ocala, Fla., Geraldine Lauck and Dorothy Fernandez, both of Wheatland, and Melvin Havely of Slater; daughter-in-law, Mary Havely of Fort Collins, Colo.; one sister, Opal Slater of Salem, Ore.; 22 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Herbert; three sons, Gerald Havely, Garland Havely, and a son at birth; three sisters, Naomi Lewis, Frances Paradise and Goldie Wickam; a brother, Harrison Fry; a great-grandson; and a great-granddaughter.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Gorman Funeral Homes-Platte Chapel in Wheatland with Elder Keith Geis officiating.

Interment will be in the Wheatland cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Kelly Havely, Dennis Lauck, Felipe Fernandez, Cody Fernandez, Kenneth Geis, and Kevin Geis. Honorary pallbearers will be all of her grandchildren.

Memorials to Slater Community Hall in care of Peggy Bise, 3 Goertz Road, Wheatland, WY 82201 would be appreciated by the family.

Family and friends may visit the funeral chapel on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Sylvia M. Pixley

1936-2005

Sylvia M. Pixley, 68, of Cheyenne died March 21 at Mountain Towers Healthcare Center.

She was born July 27, 1936, in Sterling, Colo., to Eleanor Wilcox Wilson and Owen Ralph Wilson.

She graduated from Cheyenne High School in 1954 and was very active in band, receiving numerous music awards.

Mrs. Pixley was a 50-year member of Magic City Rebekka Lodge No. 5.

She is survived by a son, Scott Pixley; a daughter, Carol Henry; her mother, Eleanor Bixby; a brother, Lanny Wilson; and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, Owen Ralph Wilson; a brother, George Wilson; and a sister, Virginia Wilson.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes with the Rev. Nadine Korhonen officiating.

Interment will be in Cheyenne Memorial Gardens.

Donald S. Hockett

1949-2005

Donald Stephen Hockett, 56, of Greeley, Colo., died March 31 at Hospice and Palliative Care of Northern Colorado inpatient unit.

Mr. Hockett was born Feb. 28, 1949, in San Antonio to Foster Spencer and Martha Wilma (Pasley) Hockett.

His family moved to Ohio where he graduated high school. He moved to Colorado to attend the University of Colorado in Boulder and lived in the area until 1999 when he moved to Cheyenne. While there, he worked odd jobs including a short contract with FEMA. In 2004, he moved to Greeley.

Mr. Hockett is survived by his two sons, Dylan and Donovan Hockett, both of Greeley; a daughter, Oakley Cadogan of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; three brothers, Allan Hockett of Washington, D.C., Richard Hockett of San Diego and Douglas Hockett of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and four grandsons.

No services are scheduled.

Frances C. Faasch

1917-2005

Frances C. Faasch, 87, died March 31 in Oakdale, Calif.

She was born May 28, 1917, in North Platte, Neb., to Frank and Clara Mylander.

She married Otto Faasch in 1945. She lived in Cheyenne for 50 years, where she operated a dog grooming business. She moved to Oakdale in 2000, where she lived with her family until her passing.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Marvin Gregory of Oakdale; and her granddaughter and great-grandchildren, Penny Thomas, LeAnna Tyler and Caleb Brubaker of Cheyenne.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and brother, Melvin Mylander.

No services will be conducted. Private interment will be with her family.

James Walter Spiegelberg

1934-2005

James Walter Spiegelberg, 71, a lifetime Laramie resident, passed away at home with his family present on April 1, following a lengthy illness with cancer. He was a man who made a difference in his community, university and circle of family and friends.

Jim was born March 30, 1934, in Laramie to William L. and Ethel Franzen Spiegelberg. He was a Laramie High School graduate and a UW graduate earning a degree in general engineering with a light construction option in 1956. While attending UW, he was actively involved in Sigma Chi Fraternity. After graduation, he designed the Sigma Chi House which was built in Fraternity Park that same year.

He worked for Speigelberg Lumber and Building Company from 1948 until his retirement in 2002. Spiegelberg Lumber and Building is a family owned company that was established in 1918 by Jim's grandfather and father. Jim served as vice president from 1970-1984 and as President from 1984-2002. He began bricklaying when he was 15 years old and remembered cutting bricks for the Fieldhouse when he was in high school.

Speigelberg Lumber and Building can be credited for many construction projects on campus, including the original Fieldhouse, the lower east and west football stadium, the North Fieldhouse complex which includes the Multi-Purpose Gym, the baseball complex, Coe Library and the library addition, the original and new law building as well as the recently completed Rochelle Athletic Center. In Laramie, construction projects included the present Ivinson Memorial Hospital, Laramie High School, Laramie Public Library and in Wyoming many other commercial buildings such as East High School and McCormick Junior High School in Cheyenne. Since 1973, he was a co-owner and president of Tumbleweed Inc. and the Pershing Dairy Queen in Cheyenne.

Over the years, Jim was active in many activities and organizations. He is a life member of the University of Wyoming Alumni Association and served on the Board of Directors from 1960-1966. His involvement in the Cowboy Joe club began in 1977. He served on the Executive Board of Directors from 1982 until present. He also served a two-year term as Cowboy Joe Club president from 1988 to 1999.

He served on the Laramie City Council from 1969-1974 and in 1978 and was Vice Mayor in 1973-1974.

He became a member of the BPOElks, Laramie Lodge 582 in 1957 and was Exalted Ruler in 1968 at the age of 34 as well as a Trustee from 1969-1975.

He married EmmaJo Hatch in Cheyenne at St. Mark's Episcopal Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, David Arthur Spiegelberg.

Jim is survived by his wife, EmmaJo Spiegelberg; three sons, William L. Spiegelberg of Honolulu, Emory W. Spiegelberg and his wife Karla of Laramie and Joseph J. and his wife Madelyn of Santa Ana, Calif.; one brother, Frank W. Spiegelberg of Laramie; one nephew, Gary Spiegelberg and his wife JoAnn; two sisters-in-law, Caryl Marion and her husband Pete of Cheyenne and Mary Ann Duffey and her husband John of Steamboat Springs, Colo.; seven grandchildren, Blake Spiegelberg of Sheridan, Jessica Spiegelberg and Casey Bader, both of Laramie, Effie Anderson of Centennial, Colo., and Amanda and Mary Spiegelberg of Santa Ana, Calif.; and two great-grandchildren, Bailey and Talon Bader of Laramie.

He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Pallbearers are John M. Dinges, Jim Filbin, Wes Hanson, Roy Mason, J. Michael Powers and John Stark. Honorary pallbearers are Donald Almendares, Mike Bott, Paul Carlin, John Clay, Ken Cook, John Duffey, James Forbes, Lee Garlach, H.D. "Pete" Marion, Bob Milliken, Tommy Romero, all past Cowboy Joe Presidents and all of his friends at the Elks Club.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Matthews Cathedral with the Rev. Marilyn Engstrom officiating. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Monday at the Montgomery-Stryker Funeral Home.

Memorial donations in his name may be made to the Meredith and Jeannie Ray Cancer Center, 255 North 30th, Laramie, WY 82072; Hospice of Laramie, 1262 North 22nd Street, Unit A, Laramie, WY 82072; or Cowboy Joe Club, Dept. 3414, 1000 East University Ave., Laramie, WY 82071.
