Maximiano Martinez

1907-2005

Maximiano "Max" Martinez, 97, of Cheyenne died May 3 at United Medical Center-West.

He was born Sept. 18, 1907, in Mora County, N.M.

Mr. Martinez worked in the maintenance department for the city of Cheyenne, Union Pacific and F.E. Warren Air Force Base.

He married Adelina C. Cruz Aug. 3, 1928, in Mora, N.M.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and the American G.I. Forum.

Mr. Martinez is survived by his wife, Adelina C. Martinez of Cheyenne; two sons, Max F. Martinez Jr. of Cheyenne and Chris Martinez of Ogden, Utah; two daughters, Corine Williams of Cheyenne and Nadine Schwab of Buffalo, N.Y.; 17 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Maximiano and Felicita (Cisneros) Martinez; a daughter, Beatrice McDonald; and a sister, Elena Garcia.

Funeral Liturgy will be at 10:30 a.m. today at St. Mary's Cathedral with Father Randy Oswald officiating.

Pallbearers will be Al Charron, Robert Schwab, Kevin Schwab, Stanley Martinez, Larry DeHerrera and Dale Martinez.

Honorary pallbearers will be Willie Sanchez, Charlie Garcia, Ted Lucero, Steven Martinez and Colin McDonald.

Friends may contribute to Meals on Wheels, 2015 S. Greeley Hwy., Cheyenne, WY 82007.

Merle A. Ernst

1942-2005

Merle A. Ernst, 63, of Cheyenne died May 4 in Cheyenne.

He was born Feb. 11, 1942, and lived here for 26 years.

Mr. Ernst served in the Army and the Seabees in Vietnam.

He is survived by a son, Mark Ernst of Trinidad, Colo.; a brother, Paul Ernst of Ohio; and a sister, Linda Reese of Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Ernst on Feb. 22, 1996; and his parents, Tony and Thelma Ernst.

Cremation has taken place at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens under the direction of Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes.

Rose J. Starmer

1918-2005

Rose Josephine Starmer, 87, of Guernsey died May 1 at Platte County Memorial Hospital in Wheatland.

She was born Jan. 28, 1918, in Minneapolis, the daughter of Peter Joseph and Mary Ferris (Jacob) Haik. She came to Wyoming with her family when she was a week old and lived in the Guernsey area her entire life.

She worked as a cook, working in many restaurants as well as being a restaurant owner at one time. She also cooked for Head Start for many years.

She married Everett Starmer on July 29, 1941, in Morrill, Neb. She was a lifelong member of Saint Anthony Catholic Church. She loved company and was especially fond of fall hunting trips with family.

She is survived by a stepson, Danny Starmer of Hemet, Calif.; stepdaughter, Mildred Jones of Missouri; and several nieces, nephews and many other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Everett on Aug. 22, 1991; an infant brother; a sister, Christina Green; a nephew; a grandson; and stepchildren, J.C. Starmer, Ethelyne Emunhouse, and Jerry Starmer.

Vigil for the Deceased will be 7 p.m. Monday at Saint Anthony Catholic Church in Guernsey.

Funeral liturgy will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Saint Anthony Catholic Church in Guernsey with Father Robert Cousineau officiating. Interment will be in the Prairie Rest cemetery at Guernsey.

Family and friends may visit from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday at the funeral chapel.

Ruben Esquibel III

1956-2005

Ruben Esquibel III, 48, of Cheyenne died April 26 at United Medical Center after a lengthy struggle with diabetes.

He was born Nov. 24, 1956, in Atwater, Calif., and lived in Cheyenne most of his life.

Mr. Esquibel started work in construction and then was a car salesman.

He was an accomplished bowler and enjoyed baseball, softball and golf. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 6.

Mr. Esquibel is survived by his parents, Mary and Ruben Esquibel Jr. of Cheyenne; his grandmother, Louise Salas of California; three brothers, Frank Esquibel of Cheyenne, Thomas Esquibel of Phoenix and Lyle Esquibel of San Antonio; his four children, Ruben Esquibel IV, Elisha Esquibel, Katie Esquibel and Koory Esquibel; two grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother, George Esquibel.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. May 14 at Grace United Methodist Church with Pastor John Laughlin officiating.

Attilio W. Bedont

1920-2005

Attilio William Bedont, 85, of Cheyenne died June 12.

He was born May 17, 1920, in Utah to Marco Antonio and Luigia Del Din Bedont.

Mr. Bedont attended the University of Wyoming, where he was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II and was discharged as a Major.

He represented the Equitable Life Assurance Co. for 57 years and served as agency manager for Wyoming. He was selected National Honor Agent and was elected to the Equitable Hall of Fame.

Mr. Bedont was a charter member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and served in many Diocesan capacities. He also was a member of the Cheyenne Symphony Foundation and the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens. He served as chairman of the Cheyenne United Way and as president of the Cheyenne Rotary Club, Young Men's Literary Society, the DePaul Hospital Board, the Wyoming Licensing Insurance Board, the Rocky Mountain Licensing Insurance Board and the Rocky Mountain Chartered Life Underwriters Association.

Mr. Bedont is survived by his wife of 60 years, Hedy Culbertson Bedont of Cheyenne; a son, Dr. Richard Bedont of Des Moines, Iowa; four daughters, Vicki Box of Denver, Barbara Hunnicutt of Avon, Conn., Nancy Burton of Los Angeles and Cindy Spaeth of Kansas City, Mo.; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three nieces.

Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Dr. Sean Glasgow, Jason Glasgow, J.P. Box, Jack Bedont, Alex Burton, Michael Box, Jack Burton and Will Spaeth.

Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Evans, David Evans, John Metzke, Ed Feiman, Dr. Joe Devine, Dr. John Burns, Michl McGee, James Applegate, Paul Hickey, Dr. Ron Waeckerlin, Dr. Sloan Hales, Robert Kidd, Nick Spaeth, Manning Culbertson, Symmes Culbertson, John Gaschen, Larry Birleffi, Burt Cassidy, Ed Williams, Bill Dinneen Jr. and members of the Cheyenne Rotary Club and Young Men's Literary Society.

Funeral Liturgy will be concelebrated by Bishop David L. Ricken, Bishop Joseph Hart, Monsignor William Delaney, Monsignor James O'Neill, Father Michael Carr and Father Thomas Cronkleton Jr. at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Interment will be in Olivet cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Parish, the Cheyenne Symphony Foundation, Cheyenne Botanic Gardens or the United Medical Center Hospice.

Beverly W. Rees

1922-2005

Beverly Glynn Whittington Rees, 82, of Cheyenne died June 11 at United Medical Center-West from complications of pneumonia.

She was born Dec. 16, 1922, in Brownlee, La., to Ivan and Clara McKinney Whittington.

She graduated with a degree in primary education in 1943 from Louisiana State Normal College, now Northwestern University, in Natchitoches, La.

She was a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority and taught first grade in Louisiana, Puerto Rico and Washington until 1956.

In 1950, she met the love of her life, Howard Lewis Rees, and they were married Oct. 7, 1950. They traveled the world in the United States Air Force and settled in Cheyenne in 1961. They were married 53 years until his death in 2003.

Mrs. Rees was a sweet, devoted mother and grandmother. She was the heart and soul of her family. She loved reading, sewing, knitting, crocheting, puzzles and housework. She terribly will be missed.

Mrs. Rees is rurvived by her daughter, Peggy Sander of Cheyenne; her granddaughter and her husband, Elizabeth and Colby Obray and their son Jayce and soon-to-be-born daughter Sheyenne, all of Logan, Utah; her son, Lt. Col. USAF Rex Rees and his wife Sandi and their children, Owen, Erin and Garrett, all of Laramie; two sisters-in-law, Elsie Whittington of Benton, La., and Rita Rees of Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y.; and many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two brothers; and three sisters.

Cremation has taken place at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens under the direction of Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Friends and family are asked to contribute to charities of choice in lieu of flowers.

Jessica F. Martin

1992-2005

Jessica Faith Martin, 13, of Carpenter died June 13 in Carpenter.

She was born Feb. 5, 1992, in Torrington.

Ms. Martin was a member of Hereford Community Church.

She is survived by her mother, Helen Martin of Carpenter; 11 brothers, Jerry Martin, Dale Martin, Todd Martin, Joshua Martin, Jonathan Martin, Jordan Martin, Levi Martin and Christian Martin, all of Carpenter, Dan Martin of Yoder and David Martin and Aaron Martin, both of Buena Vista, Colo.; and eight sisters, Cheryl Hauer, Lisa Martin, Bethany Sanders, Carrie Martin, Melinda Martin, Amy Martin, Rene Martin and Mercy Martin, all of Carpenter.

She was preceded in death by her father, Gerald Martin; and a brother, Cody Martin.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. today at Carpenter cemetery with Pastor Jerry Martin officiating.

Services are under the direction of Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes.

Norman A. Wich

1921-2005

Norman A. Wich, 83, of Lakeport, Calif., died May 16 at the Lake County Hospital in Lakeport.

He was born Sept. 2, 1921, in Wellington, Colo.

Mr. Wich enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1939 and served six years. He served in the Pacific during WWII. Upon his discharge he worked as a master carpenter and eventually started his own business before retiring.

Mr. Wich is survived by a daughter, Cindy Egan and granddaughter, Sadie of Lakeport; a daughter, Lynda Jensen and grandson, Ryan, of Vacaville, Calif.; two sisters, Leota Gates and Maggi Thomas, both of Cheyenne; and a brother, Eugene A. Wich of Wellington.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda; his parents, Andrew and Mathilde Wich; and a sister, Dorothy.

Memorial services will be June 25 by his family and the Neptune Club of California. The family was presented with an American flag as a memento of his military service.

Norman R. Ruschill

1917-2005

Norman R. "Russ" Ruschill, 88, of Cheyenne died June 12 at Mountain Towers Healthcare.

He was born June 9, 1917, in Burlington, Iowa.

He was a master machinist for Consolidated Freightways for 37 years. Mr. Ruschill served in the U.S. Army during World War II and followed the first wave of D-Day troops in the Normandy Invasion.

He was a member of the Cheyenne Field Archers, the National Rifle Association, Moose Lodge, Wyoming Wildlife Federation and the Isaac Walton League. He enjoyed fishing, archery and was an avid gardener.

Mr. Ruschill is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Russ and Lisa Ruschill of Jackson; a daughter, Rebecca Lynn Ruschill of Phoenix; a sister, Alice Lutenegger of Burlington; a brother-in-law, Ralph Evans of West Burlington; a sister-in-law, Doris Ruschill of Burlington; a grandson, Alex Walters of Xenia, Ohio; a friend, Sandi Ruschill of Cheyenne; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Alvina Ruschill; a daughter, Andrea E. Walters; five brothers, Clarence Ruschill, Art Ruschill, Frank Ruschill, Fremont Ruschill and Carl Ruschill; and two sisters, Frances Keitzer and Erma Evans.

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes with the Rev. J.D. Megason officiating.

Private family interment in Cheyenne Memorial Gardens.

Military honors provided by the American Legion Honor Guard.

Honorary Pallbearers will be all the members of the Cheyenne Field Archers Club.

Friends may contribute to the American Cancer Society.

Robert E. Johnson

1938-2005

Robert Eric Johnson, 66, of Cheyenne died June 13 in Cheyenne of cancer.

He was born Oct. 28, 1938, in Wheatland to Myrna (Pence) and Herman Johnson.

He was a member of the Wyoming National Guard and received an honorable discharge.

Mr. Johnson worked as an over-the-road truck driver for L.W. Miller until his retirement in 2003.

He is survived by his wife, Ginger Johnson of Cheyenne; two daughters, Kathy of Wheatland and Tami of Glendo; a son, Wade of Cheyenne ; a stepdaughter, Michele of Napa, Idaho; a stepson, Brian McGuire of Lingle; his mother, Myrna, of Oakland, Calif.; a sister, Jean Harvey of Oakland; a brother, Oscar of Wheatland; eight grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Irene; his father, Herman Johnson; and his grandparents, Wayne and LaVeda Pence and Lambert and Tensia Johnson.

Cremation has taken place at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens.

Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Gorman Platte Chapel in Wheatland.
