Carol F. Arnold

1918-2006

Dr. Carol F. (Palmer) Arnold, 88, of Loveland, Colo., died Monday in Loveland.

She was born Feb. 21, 1918, in Burns, lived in Cheyenne from 1966 to 1994 and also lived in Fort Collins, Colo., LaGrange and Torrington.

Dr. Arnold was an educator at Laramie County Community College, The University of Wyoming, Regis University and several public schools in Wyoming for 57 years.

She was a member of the Berean Church, American Association of University Women, and Delta Kappa Gamma teaching sorority.

Dr. Arnold is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Minnaclaire Arnold, of Tulsa, Okla.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Diana "Dede" and Max Beebe of Fort Collins and Jeanine "Nancy" and Jeral McDonald of Loveland, Colo.; a sister-in-law, Frances Palmer of Wheatland; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clinton "Bud" Arnold; six brothers, Stanley Palmer, Frank Palmer, Harry Palmer, Vernon Palmer, Merle Palmer and Bill Palmer; and four sisters, Esther Cook, Olive "Pat" Weekly, Bernice Emery, and Nina Kaser.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Cheyenne Berean Church with Pastor Ronald J. Smithgall officiating. Interment will follow in the LaGrange cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Christopher Arnold, Matthew Caleb Arnold, Brett Beebe, Bob Nab, Alan Sisneros, and Steve McHugh.

Friends may contribute to the Carol F. Arnold Memorial Trust c/o Key Bank, 125 E. Seventh St., Loveland, CO 80537. Beneficiaries of the trust will be education funds, the Gideon Foundation, and Larimer County Hospice.

Friends may call 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. tonight at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes.

Services are under the direction of Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes.

Lorraine W. Backus

1923-2006

Lorraine W. Backus, 83, of Cheyenne died Oct. 17 in Carpenter.

She was born April 28, 1923, in Douglas and had lived here most of her life.

Lorraine was a legal secretary for the tate of Wyoming Public Service Commission and retired after 26 years.

She was a member of the American Legion for 53 years and First United Methodist Church.

Lorraine is survived by two sons, Jay Backus of Waltman, and Casey Backus of Idaho Falls, Idaho; a daughter, Anita Backus of Carpenter; a brother, Charles A. Weaver of Fort Collins, Colo.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Marie (Moore) Weaver; an infant brother, Charles E. Weaver; and a sister, Jacqueline Barton.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel, with the Rev. Robert Walkley officiating. Interment will be in Beth El cemetery.

Donna M. Beckett

1926-2006

Donna M. Beckett, 79, of Cheyenne died Oct. 13 in Cheyenne.

She was born Dec. 9, 1926, in Clearfield, Iowa, and had lived here since 1986 with prior residence in Omaha, Neb.

Donna was a microfilm clerk for Mutual of Omaha Insurance Company until retiring in 1984. She loved to read, do crosswords, and watch soap operas. She enjoyed watching football and was an avid Nebraska fan and baseball fan, especially when her grandkids played in Little League and Jr. League. Her family and friends meant everything to her.

Mrs. Beckett is survived by her daughter, Ruth A. Beckett of Cheyenne; a daughter-in-law, Judy Beckett of Ames, Iowa; a brother and sister-in-law, William and Lila Kleckner of Creston, Iowa; a sister and brother-in-law, Francis Ann and Joe Moffett of Gailsberg, Ill.; five grandchildren, Nicole Morris of Cheyenne, Ragina Reynolds and Katina VanDyke, both of Ames, James Beckett and Phillip and his wife, Jamie Beckett, all of Cheyenne; six great-grandchildren, Eric Morris-Cardenas and Zachary West, both of Cheyenne, Sailor Reynolds of Ames, Jabarin Beckett and Tija Beckett, both of Cheyenne, and Marina Reynolds of Ames.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Francis A. Kleckner; a son, David Beckett; a grandson, Dani Beckett; three brothers, Marion, Orville, and Frank Kleckner; and four sisters, Flossie Reed, Gayle Beede, Genevra Jessep, and Doralee Fisher.

Cremation has taken place at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens under the direction of Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes.

Friends who wish may send contributions to the American Cancer Society.

Leona E. Zander

1918-2006

Leona E. Zander, 88, of Cheyenne died on Oct. 16 at her home in Cheyenne.

She was born Oct. 11, 1918, in Lynch, Neb., the daughter of Caroline and Frank Hoffman.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Caroline and Frank Hoffman; her sisters, Eloise Kolund, Esther Berg, Emma Hoffman, Maxine Hoffman, Fern Boska, Irene Wiedman, Ida Nemec and Myrtle Brown; her brothers, Earl Hoffman and Martin Hoffman; her son, Douglas Zander; and her former husband, Arthur Zander.

She is survived by her son, Roger Zander and wife, Joyce Zander; granddaughters, April and Laura Zander; daughter-in-law, Benita Daniels of Pahrump, Nev.; her sister, Geneva Michaelis of Spencer, Neb.; and numerous nephews and nieces.

Leona was involved with the Foster Grandparent Program, being a foster grandmother at Eastridge Elementary School. She was also a housekeeper and cook for many years at the Phi Beta Phi sorority house in Laramie. Throughout her life she was a babysitter for many different families in Cheyenne and Laramie with whom she made lasting friendships, in addition to caring for and babysitting her own grandchildren in Cheyenne. Over the years, she developed a very special relationship with Dick and Betty Wagner and their two daughters, Judy and Lisa, with whom she lived and babysat for many years. They considered her a member of their family, always inviting her to birthday parties and other family holiday occasions even as their daughters grew up and had families of their own.

The loves of her life were her two granddaughters, April and Laura, with whom she spent many enjoyable years. She especially enjoyed listening to them play the piano, attending their recitals and going to as many of their school programs and sports activities as she was able. Before her health prevented it, she loved going on trips with her family and visiting her many relatives in their home states. She valued and loved all of the many friends she made in Cheyenne and at Holy Trinity Manor. Some of her favorite things were playing bingo with her friends on Wednesday evening and taking part in all of the other activities they had at Holy Trinity Manor.

She and her family would like to thank all of her many friends in Cheyenne and at Holy Trinity Manor who provided her with care and support during her illness.

A memorial service will be held at Holy Trinity Manor at 3 p.m. Saturday with Sister Ruth Ann Hehn officiating.

Eileen M. Rash

1943-2006

Eileen M. Rash, 63, of Cheyenne died Oct. 15 in Cheyenne.

She was born June 10, 1943, in Peterborough, England.

She was a sales representative.

She married Dave Rash on Nov. 18, 1961, in Peterborough.

Mrs. Rash is survived by her husband, Dave Rash of Cheyenne; a son, Ronald D. Rash Jr. of Cheyenne; a brother, Darrell Ilett of Peterborough; three sisters, Anne Fradely and Josie Bass, both of Peterborough, and Diane Sansbury of Angel Fire, N.M.; and one grandchild.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. today at Schrader Chapel with Pastor Robert Weant officiating.

Pallbearers will be Ronald D. Rash Jr., Todd Dudley, Rick Byers, Bill Rabon, Michael Gnagy and Mark Harrison.

Burial will be in Mountain View Memorial Park.

Joan L. Phillips

1949-2006

After a valiant three-year battle with ovarian cancer, Joan Lynn Phillips, 56, passed away peacefully at home Tuesday morning, Oct. 17.

She was born Nov. 19, 1949, in Cheyenne.

Beloved wife of Bob Phillips, and cherished mother of Jill and David Phillips, Joan is also survived by her mother, Edith Puett; her brother, Dan Puett and his wife, Barb; and her brother, Mark Puett and his wife, Gayle.

Joan loved teaching, fishing, cooking, painting, gardening and, most of all, sharing her life with others.

Her smile, her laughter, her generosity and selflessness will be remembered by all who knew her.

A celebration of Joan's life will be from 3-5 p.m. today at the Kiwanis Community House in Lions Park for family and friends to bring and share photos and fond memories of their time with Joanie.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Joan Phillips Memorial Fund at Cheyenne State Bank, attn: Lynn Davenport, 101 W. 19th St., Cheyenne WY 82001. This fund will benefit Bain Elementary and the children Joan so dearly loved.

Marina E. Wiggins

1922-2006

Marina E. Wiggins, 84, of Cheyenne died Oct. 19 in Kimball, Neb.

She was born May 28, 1922, in Dalton, Neb.

Mrs. Wiggins married Charles A. Wiggins on Sept. 28, 1947, in Sidney, Neb.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Wiggins was a legal secretary for Harry B. Henderson Attorney and Associates and a medical secretary and office manager for Duane M. Kline, M.D., spanning 45 years.

She is survived by her son, Gregg L. Wiggins of Phoenix; a brother, Leonard S. Mayer of Cheyenne; and two grandchildren.

Mrs. Wiggins was preceded in death by her husband, Charles A. Wiggins in 1963; her parents, Edward A. and Minnie Ann Mayer; a sister, Rowena B. Busacker; and a brother, Arthur L. Mayer.

No services will be held.

Friends may contribute to a charity of choice.

Betty P. Demshar

1924-2006

Betty P. Demshar, 82, of Cheyenne died Oct. 18 at Lifecare Center of Cheyenne.

She was born April 13, 1924, in Coloretto Giacosa, Italy.

Mrs. Demshar worked in retail sales until she retired and moved to Cheyenne in 1988.

She married John P. Demshar on Sept. 28, 1947, in Rock Springs.

Mrs. Demshar is a member of St. Mary's Cathedral and Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Rock Springs.

She is survived by three sons , John P. Demshar III, of Lodi, Calif., James W. Demshar, of Cheyenne, and Joseph A. Demshar, of Arlington, Va.; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Demshar was preceded in death by her husband, John P. Demshar Jr.; her parents, Anthony and Margarita Caserio; a brother, James Caserio; and one great-granddaughter.

Funeral Liturgy will be at 1 p.m. today at St. Mary's Cathedral with the Rev. Gary Ruzicka officiating.

Burial will be in Olivet cemetery. Cremation has taken place at Schrader's Sunset Park Crematory.

Friends may contribute to the American Cancer Society.

Jaunita D. Patterson

1920-2006

Jaunita D. Patterson, 86, of Cheyenne died Oct. 20 at Lifecare Center of Cheyenne.

She was born Sept. 13, 1920, in Goshen County. She had lived in Cheyenne since 1983 with prior residence in Hawk Springs and Guernsey.

Jaunita was a beautician for many years and was also involved with the Senior Companion and Foster Grandparent programs at Afflerbach Elementary.

She was a member of the Airport Golf ladies leagues and bridge club.

Jaunita is survived by a sister-in-law, Etta Lou David of Buhl, Idaho; two sons and two daughters, Leroy and Linda Patterson of Cheyenne, Buck and Connie Patterson of Guernsey, Sharon and Terry Wilson of Thayne and Sun Lakes, Ariz., and Dixie Jones of Omaha, Neb.; 14 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, Ed David; her mother, Inez David; a sister, Flora David; and two brothers, Lon David and Dewey David.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Torrington cemetery with the Rev. Ora Dailey officiating.

Pallbearers will be Leroy Patterson, Buck Patterson, Terry Wilson, Tory Patterson, Steve Allarid and Matt Allarid.

Friends may contribute to Lifecare Center of Cheyenne Activities Fund, Senior Companion Program, Veterans of Foreign Wars of Guernsey or a charity of choice.

Blanche V. George

1919-2006

Blanche V. George, 87, of Cheyenne died Oct. 20 at the Cheyenne Regional Medical Center.

She was born Jan. 21, 1919, in Ault, Colo.

Mrs. George married Orval George on Oct. 10, 1955, in Pueblo, Colo.

She was a hostess and waitress at Little America.

Mrs. George is survived by her daughters, Cindy Hooper of Cheyenne and Shirley Bradshaw of Aurora, Colo.; a stepson, Merle George of Cheyenne; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Orval; a daughter, Caroline Sidwell; her parents, William and Ruth Willis; a brother, Carl Willis; and a sister, Thelma Diehl.

The funeral is set for 9 a.m. today at Schrader Chapel with the Rev. Timothy Reed officiating. Burial will be at Evans cemetery in Evans, Colo.

Brian C. Alonzo

1976-2006

Brian "Caleb" Alonzo, 29, left behind friends and family on Oct. 22 in Cheyenne.

He was the son of Daniel Alonzo and Dephne Garcia.

Brian was born on Dec. 8, 1976, in Cheyenne.

He was raised in Cheyenne and graduated from High School III in 1996.

Brian was employed by Pole Mountain Electric and was currently obtaining his electrical journeyman license.

Brian was active for many years in Cheyenne softball, golf and pool leagues.

He enjoyed cooking and creating artwork and had a true passion for spending time outdoors, especially fishing the lakes of Wyoming. To Brian, the most important things in life revolved around family and friends and his loving personality brought life and laughter to all those fortunate enough to share in these times with him.

Brian is survived by his wife Joanna, whom he married Oct. 7, 1999; and the two beautiful children they were blessed with, Mikalah Rene Alonzo, born June 16, 1997, and Joseph Daniel Perfecto Alonzo, born Dec. 1, 2001. He is also survived by his parents, Daniel Alonzo of Denver and Dephne and Johnnie Garcia of Cheyenne; his father-in-law, Joseph Hernandez; his mother-in-law, Esther Vigil; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Michael Garcia and Donovan and Ronna Alonzo; three sisters and two brother-in-laws, Alisha Garcia, Jacquelyn Garcia and J.J. Padilla-McCool, and Jana Garcia-Tompkins and Mark Tompkins; a brother-in-law, Luke Montoya; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Sandra and Chico Gonzalez; his nieces and nephews, Brent and Victoria Alonzo, Lydia and Ebony Garcia, Brenden Padilla-McCool, Derrek McNally, and Bryant and Tanya Montoya and several other nieces and nephews; his grandparents, Phyllis Alonzo, Gerald McHenry, Dorthea Parker and Viola Garcia, all of Cheyenne.

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Joe L. Alonzo and Cipriano Garcia; his grandmother, Retta McHenry; and his beloved aunt, Deb Ornelas.

Funeral Liturgy will be 10:30 a.m. today at St. Mary's Cathedral with the Rev. Ray Rodriguez as the celebrant.

Interment will be in Olivet cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Michael Garcia, Donovan Alonzo, Anthony Ornelas, Cippy Valdez, Jerry Barela and J.J. Padilla-McCool.

Honorary pallbearers will be Justin Alonzo, Christopher McHenry, Brandon McHenry and Robert Rodriguez.

In lieu of flowers, a charitable trust has been established for Brian's children, Joseph and Mikalah Alonzo. Donations may be made at any Bank of the West location.
