Jean M. Nehl - 06/25/03

Mass of Christian burial for Jean M. Nehl, 86, the mother of a Gillette man, will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Bonaventure's Catholic Church in McIntosh, S.D. with the Rev. Kerry Prendeville officiating.

Burial will be in St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery in Watauga, S.D.

Visitation is this afternoon and evening at Evanson Jensen Funeral Home in Lemmon, S.D., and will continue one hour prior to the services at the church in McIntosh. Rosary services will be at 7:30 p.m.

She died Monday, June 23, 2003, at Clarkson Mountain View Health Care in Rapid City, S.D., after living with Alzheimer's Disease.

Mrs. Nehl was born May 11, 1917, in St. Paul, Minn., to Harry and Delphine (Dolan) Davitt.

She was married to John Nehl of Watauga on Aug. 21, 1943, in Cleveland, Ohio, while he was serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II. In 1961 they moved to Rapid City.

She is survived by three sons, including Bruce Nehl of Gillette; and five grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother.

Evanson Jensen Funeral Home in Lemmon is in charge of arrangements.

A memorial has been established to the Restoration Fund of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Watauga.

Dorothy Shreve - 02/05/01

Funeral services for Dorothy P. Shreve will be at noon Tuesday at the LDS Church in Sheridan with Dr. Scott Bateman officiating.

Visitation will be from 11 to 11:30 a.m. at the church.

Cremation will follow the service.

Mrs. Shreve, 64, died Friday, Feb. 2, 2001, in her Sheridan home after a nine-month fight with cancer.

She was born Aug. 19, 1936, in Sheridan to Harry and Margaret (Miesen) Stroup.

She grew up and attended schools in Sheridan. On Nov. 5, 1952, she eloped with John R. Shreve. They were married in Gillette.

They lived on the Bosler Ranch on the Little Horn River above Wyola, Mont., where John had been working for several years. They worked on many different ranches in Montana and Wyoming, including Eaton's, for 14 years. They had several ranching operations in Big Horn County in Montana.

The couple ran the Interstate 90 Sinclair in Sheridan for 14 years. Her husband had to retire for health reasons in 1996. She ran the station until April 2000.

She enjoyed reading, playing games, teaching sports and having family outings with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed flowers of all kinds, wind chimes, gardening, her yard, and crocheting.

She was a member of the LDS church.

Dorothy and John sealed their vows in the Billings, Mont., LDS Temple on Feb. 5.

Preceding her in death were her father; her daughter, Susie Adamson; her younger sister, Eileen; and her brother Harold.

She is survived by her husband; a son, John Shreve of Seattle; her mother, Margaret Stroup of Sheridan; three brothers, Ray Stroup of Sheridan, Ned Frank Stroup of Gillette, and Jack Stroup of Sheridan; a sister, Alice Fisher of Garfield, Wash.; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials may benefit the Sheridan Cancer Support Group, in care of Robyn Mundy, 2161 Coffeen Ave., Sheridan WY 82801.

Debra Kay Townsend - 04/17/02

Funeral services for Debra Kay Townsend, 41, of Gillette will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Orville Holden officiating.

Burial will follow at Mount Pisgah Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday at Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home Chapel. A luncheon will follow visitation at the Assembly of God Church.

Ms. Townsend died Sunday, April 14, 2002, at her home of a drug overdose.

She was born July 13, 1960, in Gillette to Robert and Hazel Townsend. She was raised and attended school in Gillette. She lived in Gillette after she finished school.

She later was married and divorced. After her marriage, she moved to Phoenix where she lived for 15 years. She then returned to Gillette, where she has lived since.

She enjoyed animals, especially her cat, and enjoyed fishing, camping, playing cards, and arts and crafts.

She is survived by her mother of Gillette; her sisters, Sharon Campbell and Cindy LuShine, both of Gillette; four nieces and nephews; and three great-nieces.

She was preceded in death by her father and grandparents.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in her name. Donations may be sent in care of Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home, 210 W. Fifth St., Gillette, WY 82716.

Harley McCombs - 02/03/03

Mass of the Christian burial for Harley David McCombs, 86, the father of a Gillette woman, will be at 9 a.m. Thursday in Layton, Utah, with Monsignor Victor E. Bonnell officiating.

Visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. in Layton.

Burial will be at Lindquist's Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch.

Harley David McCombs died Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003, in Roy, Utah.

He was born Sept. 21, 1916, in Washington, Pa., to Thomas Harley and Nellie Polen Brady McCombs.

He married Mildred B. Knouse Oct. 12, 1949, in Harrisburg, Pa. She died April 13, 1986.

Mr. McCombs attended schools in Washington, Pa., and Philadelphia, Pa. He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and a member of the Loyal Order of Moose in Middletown, Pa., V.F.W. # 6704 in Mechanicsburg, Pa., and B.P.O.E., Golden Spike Utah # 719.

He served during World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps. After service he worked as an aircraft foreman and retired in 1975.

Mr. McCombs is survived by one daughter, Toni M. Tucker of Gillette; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and sister.

LTC Munier dies at Walter Reed

Date of Birth: Saturday May 26, 1956
Date of Death: Monday June 12, 2006

Lt. Col. Charles Munier, of Wheatland, Wyo., died at Walter Reed Medical Center, in Washington, D.C., today, from a brief illness.

Munier, who worked as the Camp Guernsey Joint Training Center facilities manager, was most recently deployed to Afghanistan as a trainer for the Afghan National Army.

Maj. Gen. Ed Wright, Wyoming’s adjutant general, said Munier was an outstanding Citizen Soldier who volunteered to deploy to train Afghan soldiers.

“Lt. Col. Munier was a pivotal member of the Camp Guernsey staff and an outstanding officer who took his duties as a Citizen Soldier seriously.

We send our deepest sympathies to his family and will continue to assist them through this difficult time,” Wright said.

Funeral services are tentatively scheduled for this weekend in Wheatland, Wyo.

Jaunita D. Patterson

September 13, 1920 -- October 20, 2006

Graveside services for Jaunita D. Patterson, 86, of Cheyenne, Wyoming will be held Friday, October 27, 2006 at Valley View Cemetery in Torrington with Reverend Ora Daley officiating.

She passed away October 20, 2006 at Lifecare Center in Cheyenne.

She was born icon September 13, 1920 in Goshen County and lived in Cheyenne since 1963. She had previously lived in Hawk Springs and Guernsey.

Jaunita was a beautician for many years and was also involved with the Senior Companion program and Foster Grandparent program at Afflerbach Elementary School.

She was a member of the Airport Golf Ladies League and Bridge Club.

She is survived by a sister-in-law, Etta Lou David, of Buhl, Idaho; two sons and two daughters, Leroy and Linda Patterson of Cheyenne; Buck and Connie Patterson of Guernsey; Sharon and Terry Wilson of Thayne, Wyoming and Sun Lakes, Arizona; and Dixie Jones of Omaha, Nebraska; 14 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father Ed David, mother Inez David, one sister, Flora David, and two brothers, Lon David and Dewey David.

Serving as pallbearers will be Leroy Patterson, Buck Patterson, Terry Wilson, Tory Patterson, Steve Allarid and Matt Allarid.

Friends may contribute to Lifecare (Activities Fund) of Cheyenne; the Senior Companion Program, VFW Post 4471 of Guernsey or a charity of your choice.

Arrangements and services are under the direction of Schrader’s Funeral Home.

Lucy Margaret Gorman

December 8, 1916 -- February 19, 2007

Funeral liturgy and Vigil for the Deceased for Lucy Margaret Gorman, 90, was conducted Saturday, February 24, 2007, at Saint Patrick Catholic Church in Wheatland, Wyoming, with Father Jan Santich as the Celebrant. Inurnment was in the Valley View Cemetery at Torrington, Wyoming.

She died Monday, February 19, 2007, at Platte County Memorial Hospital in Wheatland.

Lucy was born icon December 8, 1916, in Clairton, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Giuseppina (Villafranca) and Louis Frederick.

She was reared and educated in Pennsylvania and moved to California with her family in 1944. Lucy (which was really Lucia Federico, but, Americanized to Lucy Frederick) was employed as a clerk/cashier at a trade school in California when she met a veteran, fresh out of the Army.

A young cowboy from Wyoming surrendered his heart to a sweet Italian girl from Pennsylvania. Charles Raymond “Chuck” Gorman and Lucy were married icon on April 27, 1946, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Glendale, California. While Chuck was beginning his career as an airline instrument mechanic, Lucy began honing her skills as a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker.

In 1957, ready for a change and some adventure, the Gormans moved to Hawaii for a couple of years. Chuck worked for Lockheed Air Service and Lucy did substitute teaching along with volunteer work while they lived there.

Returning to California in 1959, Lucy was employed doing office work at a furniture factory. In 1973, they decided to return to Wyoming where they could help care for Chuck’s mother and brother and the family property in Wheatland. In no time at all, Lucy became an integral part of the community.

A loving caregiver, she grandmothered all manner of children, shared her calligraphy talents, became an accomplished wheat weaver and did extensive volunteer work. She also continued in her tradition of active devotion to her church.

A special 90th birthday celebration was held recently in Wheatland for Lucy and a number of her nieces and nephews were in attendance from all over the United States; a very special memory for her.

Survivors include her daughter, Patricia Schmidle and Helmut of Freiburg, Germany; two grandchildren, Patrik Schmidle and Sue and John of San Diego, California and Simone Schmidle and Oliver of Freiburg, Germany; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of over 50 years on July 22, 1999; and four siblings.

Serving as honorary pallbearers were her wonderful supportive friends.

Memorials to St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1009 - 9th Street, Wheatland, Wyoming 82201 or to St. Joseph’s Children’s Home, P.O. Box 1117, Torrington, Wyoming 82240-1117 would be appreciated by the family.

Angell Renee Pillar

December 25, 1975 -- February 5, 2007

Funeral Liturgy for Angell Renee Pillar, 31, was conducted Friday, February 9, 2007, at Saint Anthony Catholic Church in Guernsey, Wyoming with Father Robert Cousineau as the Celebrant. Inurnment will be in the Hartville Cemetery at a later date.

She died Tuesday, February 6, 2007, from injuries sustained in a vehicular accident north of Glendo, Wyoming.

Angell was born icon December 25, 1975, in Torrington, Wyoming, the daughter of Jackie Ardell (Walsh) and Arthur Dennis Martinez. She was reared and educated in Guernsey, graduating from Guernsey-Sunrise High School and then attending the University of Wyoming for two years at Laramie.

She married icon Mark Thomas Pillar on February 14, 2005, in Casper, Wyoming. They lived in Casper for awhile and had recently moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming. She loved her children, they were her world. Angell also enjoyed the outdoors, camping, and fishing.

Survivors include her husband, Mark of Cheyenne; four children, Seth of Rapid City, South Dakota, Lukas, Emma Rose, and Samantha Joyce all of Cheyenne; father, Art Martinez of Colorado Springs, Colorado; mother, Jackie Walsh of Cheyenne; sister, Summer Rose Otero of Cheyenne; two brothers, Johnny Otero of Guernsey and Anthony Raymond Cartee of Colorado Springs; maternal grandparents, August and Beth Jones of Guernsey; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Robert Walsh and paternal grandparents, Albert and Delphine Martinez.

Serving as pallbearers were Anthony Cartee, Robert Walsh, Johnny Otero, Adam Otero, Sean Cooney, and Bruce Pillar.

Memorials to the Angell Pillar Children’s Memorial Fund, in care of Oregon Trail Bank, P.O. Box 219, Guernsey, Wyoming 82214-0219 would be appreciated by the family.
