Thelma Lanham - 02/25/04

Funeral services for Thelma E. Lanham, 97, of Broadus, Mont., and formerly of Campbell County will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home Chapel.

Burial will follow at Mount Pisgah Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home Chapel.

Mrs. Lanham died Saturday, Feb. 21, 2004, at the Powder River Manor Nursing Home in Broadus of natural causes.

She was born Sept. 22, 1906, to Fanny L. (Baugh) and Charles Berry in Moorcroft. She was raised and educated in northeastern Wyoming.

She married Harvey Emerson Lanham and they lived on the ranch they homesteaded north of Recluse, where they raised their children. Mrs. Lanham became a resident at Powder River Manor nursing home in Broadus in 1997 and lived there until her death.

Mrs. Lanham had a keen wit and sense of humor and was willing to try new things. She learned to drive at the age of 60 and taught herself to type. She loved to do hands-on things such as crafts, sewing, knitting, crocheting, fabric painting, water coloring and tatting. She enjoyed riding horses and was a member of the Women's Club in Recluse. She was very optimistic and young at heart.

Mrs. Lanham is survived by a son, Bill Lanham of Riverbank, Calif.; three daughters, Emerine Hanlan and Bonnie Barttlet, both of Broadus and Esther McBride of Recluse.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.

A memorial has been established in her name to benefit the Recluse ladies, the Pleasant Hours Club, the Rockpile Museum or the museum in Broadus.

Frank Costin - 02/25/04

Funeral services for Frank John Costin, 48, of Gillette will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Trinity Lutheran Church of Gillette with the Rev. Scott Firminhac officiating. Military honors will be provided.

Visitation is from 4 to 9 tonight at Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home Chapel.

Burial will be at a later date in the Oregon Trail Cemetery in Casper.

Mr. Costin died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2004, at Campbell County Memorial Hospital of natural causes.

He was born June 18, 1955, to Betty (Porch) and John Costin in Poplar Bluff, Mo. After graduation from high school, he entered the U.S. Navy on July 31, 1974. He served on nuclear submarines and frigates, including the USS Leahy in Vietnam.

After his discharge from the Navy, he lived on the East Coast, before returning to Missouri.

He met and married Ginger Havey on Nov. 19, 1977. They lived in St. Louis, Mo., until they moved to Gillette in 1996.

He was a member of the VFW Post 7756 and the American Legion Post 42.

Mr. Costin is survived by his mother of Poplar Bluff; his wife; one son, Stephen Costin; one daughter, Julia Costin; and one granddaughter, all of Gillette.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Helen M. Cudmore - 02/26/04

Mass of Christian burial for Helen M. Cudmore, 91, of Newcastle will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Corpus Christi Church in Newcastle with the Rev. Bruce Clapham officiating.

A rosary-vigil service will be at 6 p.m. Friday at Corpus Christi Catholic Church.

Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. at Pine Slope Cemetery in Belle Fourche, S.D.

Mrs. Cudmore died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2004, at the Crook County Memorial Hospital in Sundance.

She was born Sept. 13, 1912, in Selby, S.D., to Thomas and Kathryn ( Smith) Byrne. She was raised near Selby and attended the Selby school. She graduated from Mobridge High School.

In the early 1930s, she moved to California where she attended nursing school. She became a nurse. She returned to South Dakota in 1946.

On Dec. 16, 1946, she married Walter Cudmore Sr., at Timber Lake, S.D. They ranched south of Timber Lake on the Moreau River. They moved to California in 1950 where she worked as a nurse. She also worked in Arizona and Colorado. In the 1960s the couple moved to Belle Fourche, where she continued nursing. She retired in 1977 and in 1989 moved to Newcastle.

Mrs. Cudmore enjoyed working with young children and working as a nurse. She loved her home. She loved music, especially all the big band era songs. She had an incredible sense of humor.

She was a member of the Corpus Christi Catholic Church and was an honorary member of Boys Town.

Mrs. Cudmore is survived by one daughter, Janice Howell, and one son, Walter Cudmore Jr., both of Newcastle; one sister, Joan Helm of San Antonio, Texas; one brother, John Byrne of Medford, Ore.; two grandchildren; three great-granddaughters ; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; six sisters; and four brothers.

A memorial has been established.

Fidler-Roberts and Isburg Funeral Chapel of Sundance is in charge of arrangements.

Clarence Ray Bell - 03/10/04

Services and celebration of life for Clarence "Ray" Bell, 69, of Gillette will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the New Life Wesleyan Church with Kenna Rose leading the service. The family encourages people to write a special memory of him and bring it with them to the service.

Burial will follow at Mount Pisgah Cemetery.

Following the burial, there will be a reception in the basement of the church.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home.

Mr. Bell died unexpectedly on Thursday, March 4, 2004, at his Kingman, Ariz., home.

He was born July 19, 1934, in Gillette to Mary Lee (Searcy) and Harold Bell. He was raised and educated in Campbell County, attending elementary school and high school. He graduated from Campbell County High School in 1952.

Upon graduation, he married Ceola Ruby on July 17, 1952. He joined the U.S. Army serving at the end of the Korean War.

After his honorable discharge, he returned to Wyoming and worked on a couple of ranches in the Gillette area until 1964.

While working on the ranches, they started their family. They leased and operated the Jess Ruby Ranch until 1971. It was at the time they had the opportunity to buy what is now called the Antelope Creek Ranch.

Mr. Bell worked as a brand inspector for almost 30 years and enjoyed it.

In 1974, he bought his first piece of equipment and started Bell Construction. In 1981, Ray and his son, Steve, became partners in an oil field construction company. Following his son's death in an airplane crash, Mr. Bell started what is now Bell's Restoration with his other son, Russell.

The Bells retired to Kingman in 1998 where he could spend more time doing what he loved; rebuilding Model T cars.

Mr. Bell loved flying airplanes, working with horses, antiques and auctions. One of his favorite pastimes was watching old westerns on television. He enjoyed his family, visiting with friends and had a very special spot in his heart for his granddaughters.

Mr. Bell is survived by his wife, "Shorty"; one son, Russell Bell of Gillette; one brother, Albert Bell of Great Falls, Mont.; six granddaughters; and one great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; his parents; one sister, Ramona Bentz; and one son, Steven Ray Bell.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in his name to benefit the Campbell County 4-H fund or to a fund of the donor's choice. Condolences may be sent in care of Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home, 210 W. Fifth St., Gillette, WY 82716 or via the Internet at www.stevensonandsons.com.
