Amanda Luedtke - 03/10/04

Funeral services for Amanda Hildegarde Luedtke, 88, of Gillette will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Chad Bruchlacher of the Prince of Peace Lutheran officiating.

Burial will follow at Mount Pisgah Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home Chapel.

Mrs. Luedtke died Monday, March 8, 2004, at her home in Gillette of natural causes.

She was born Aug. 25, 1915, to Mary (Hille) and Christian Hins in Wessington Springs, S.D. She was born and raised on a farm outside Wissington Springs and later moved to Sioux Falls, S.D., to work as a waitress and met Walter Luedtke there in 1945.

The couple transferred by the Army Air Force to Great Falls, Mont., where they had five children.

She moved to Gillette in the 1980s and has lived here until her death.

Mrs. Luedtke is survived by two sons, Wally Luedtke of Sioux Falls and Karl Luedtke of Gillette; two daughters, Marie Meade of Great Falls and Mona Starr of Bismarck, N.D.; and eight grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one daughter at birth, Marylan Luedtke.

Thomas Dwight Stanley - 03/11/04

Thomas Dwight Stanley, 72, formerly of Gillette, died Friday, March 5, 2004 in Harlingen, Texas. Private burial of his ashes at Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, S.D., will be held at a later date.

Mr. Stanley was born June 28, 1931 in Otis, Colo., to Leslie Thomas and Gladys M. Henry Stanley. He graduated in 1950 from Logan County High School.

Mr. Stanley served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1951 to 1954. He was stationed in Japan at the end of the Korean War.

He married Kathryn Ann Kluver in Gillette on July 31, 1961. On Dec. 4, 1979, he married Ruth Settles of Harlingen.

Throughout his life, Mr. Stanley farmed and ranched. He owned Stanley Implement in Gillette before retiring to Harlingen. He worked part-time at the Elks Lodge in Harlingen and enjoyed helping with their activities.

Mr. Stanley is survived by a son, Thomas Craig Stanley of Gillette; three brothers, Lloyd Stanley and Ron Stanley of Sterling, Colo., and Roger Stanley of Sun City, Ariz.; two sisters, Marge Klein of Fort Lupton, Colo., and Shirley Ertle of Greeley, Colo.; two grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings Joyce N. Stanley and Leslie LaDean Stanley and his wife Ruth.

Brady Bowman - 03/10/04

Funeral services for Brady Scott Bowman of Gillette will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Elm Springs Community Church in Elm Springs, S.D.

Burial will follow at the Elm Springs Cemetery.

Brady, the infant son of Johnny Roy and Marcy (Denke) Bowman of Gillette, was born silently on Saturday, March 6, 2004, at Campbell County Memorial Hospital.

He is survived by his parents of Gillette; one sister, Tori Ann Bowman of Henderson, Nev.; his grandparents, Lynn and Pam Denke of Creighton, S.D., Barb Reckling of Wall, S.D., and Harry and Janice Selby of Rapid City, S.D.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Browdy Lynn Bowden in 2001.

Ada May Moore - 03/11/04

Ada May Moore, 82, of Gillette died at her home in Gillette on Wednesday, March 10, 2004 of natural causes. Funeral arrangements are pending with Stevenson Wilson Funeral Home.

Dorothy Nelson/03-14-04

Funeral services for Dorothy Grace Nelson, 69, formerly of Wright were at 3 p.m. Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church in Anaconda, Mont., with the Rev. Rusty Craig officiating.

Burial will follow in the family plot of Lower Hill Cemetery in Anaconda. There will be no evening wake or visitation.

Mrs. Nelson died Sunday, March 7, 2004, in Albuquerque, N.M.

She was born April 13, 1934, in White Sulfur Springs, Mont., to James Warren and Irma Rose (Platter) Horne. She graduated from Carroll College as a surgical nurse in 1954 and that same year moved to Anaconda when she married Richard Ryburn Nelson. They made their home in Anaconda and were blessed with five children.

They moved to Wright in 1983, living there for several years before retiring to Albuquerque in 1992. She always looked forward to returning to Montana each spring and autumn for the changing of foliage.

Her hobbies included spoiling her grandchildren, gardening, crafting elaborate Christmas displays and knitting. She researched and prepared eight volumes of genealogical research dating her family back to 1100 AD.

Survivors include her husband of Albuquerque; five children, Kathy Matise of Denver, Roy Nelson and Dannielle Agena, both of Albuquerque, Richard Nelson of Dallas, Texas, and Tamara Arlin of Fresno, Calif.; six grandchildren; and 10 sisters and brothers: Billie Marie Thornes of White Sulphur Springs, Bonnie Burrows and Lorna Rose Flynn, both of Butte, Mont., Cora Lee Horne and Ray Horne, both of Townsend, Mont., Gerry Wright of Judith Gap, Mont., Sherry Gray of Alberton, Mont., Vickie Cameron of Martinsdale, Mont., Jay Horne of Great Falls, and Paddy Horne of Post Falls, Idaho.

KT Riddle Funeral Homes of Anaconda is in charge of arrangements.

Lois Jean Yake /03-14-04

The family of Lois Yake will receive friends and family from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home Chapel.

Mrs. Yake, 75, of Gillette died Friday, March 12, 2004, at Pioneer Manor Nursing Home of natural causes.

She was born April 7, 1928, the daughter of Irene May (Deaver) and Sylvan Ingwerson Peterson in Maysdorf, 22 miles south of Gillette. She grew up in Gillette, attending elementary school at the Wyodak Country School and graduating from Campbell County High School.

Upon graduation, she went to Chicago, Ill., to be of assistance during her sister's pregnancy. While in Chicago, she met Henry Oliver Yake. On Aug. 19, 1945, they were married in her parent's front yard in Gillette. They lived in Gillette until 1947, then moved to Kettle Falls, Wash.

They returned to Gillette in 1956. Mrs. Yake worked at the Campbell County Treasurer's Office until 1967, when the couple moved to Pinedale. In Pinedale, she worked at the Sublette County Treasurer's Office and as the Sublette County Clerk.

In 1998, she and her husband bought 23 miles acres northwest of Bemidji, Minn. They returned to Gillette in February of 2004.

She loved animals and the outdoors. She especially enjoyed anything to do with horses. As a child, she spent most of every summer on her Grandpa and Grandma Deaver's homestead, riding every day and bringing the milk cows in at night.

Mrs. Yake had many talents, including bronze sculpting, silversmithing, jewelry making, wood burning, drawing and sewing. One of her latest achievements was to become an accomplished oil painter. One of her paintings was selected for the governor's traveling art exhibition.

Mrs. Yake is survived by her husband of 58 years; a sister, Shirley Clements of Sheridan; three sons, Henry Jay Yake of Yakima, Wash., Sylvan Lee Yake of Gillette and Garry Dean Yake of Casper; 11 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Betty (McKay) Jeske.
