Ann L. Kudar

Ann L. Kudar, 94, Rock Springs, passed away on Nov. 17, 2003, at the Sage View Care Center. A lifelong resident of Rock Springs, she died following a brief illness.

She was born in Rock Springs on March 3, 1909, the daughter of the late John and Frances Kovach Kudar.

She attended schools in Rock Springs.

She worked for the Union Bakery, C.A. West Store and for the JC Penney Store until her retirement in 1955.

Survivors include two sisters-in-law, Margie Kudar of Rock Springs and Mary Kudar of Jackson; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Frances Pernich; five brothers, Max, Joe, Rudolf, John, and Alfred; two nieces, Evelyn Deru and Lucille McFadden; two nephews, Dr. John Pernich and Fred Taucher.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Nov. 21 at the Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, 633 Bridger Ave., Rock Springs. A parish rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Nov. 20 at the Vase Funeral Chapel, 154 Elk Street, Rock Springs. Graveside services and interment will be in the Saint Joseph's section of the Rock Springs Municipal cemetery. Friends may call at the Vase Funeral Chapel Thursday afternoon and evening until 8 p.m. and again Friday at the chapel until service time.

The family of Ann J. Kudar respectfully suggests that donations in her memory be made to Rock Springs Catholic School Building Fund, P.O. Box 6038 Rock Springs, Wyoming 82902 or a charity of your choice.

June Hamblin Floyd

June Hamblin Floyd, 76, died Nov. 14 in Glendale, Ariz.

She was born April 12, 1927, in Reliance, to William Clark and Bernice McWilliams Hamblin.

She married James Dolan Floyd in 1948. She was a resident of Green River for over 40 years and moved to Glendale in 2002 due to failing health.

She had several interests and occupations during her life, including working as a dummy maker for the Union Pacific Coal Mine in Reliance during World War II, a seamstress and was the chef at the Park Hotel in Rock Springs.

She was a member of the United Mine Workers of America.

She was instrumental in planning "Mickey Finn Days" in Green River which was renamed Flaming Gorge Days. She was the President of the Green River VFW Auxiliary for three years and state president for one year.

Survivors include three children, Dolan and Janie Floyd of Rock Springs, Susan and Terrell Floyd Johnson and Dianna Snedden of Glendale, Ariz.;. three sisters, Viola Weatherington of Rock Springs, Bernice Boone of Lyman and Addie Weeks of Thayne; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, one daughter, Billie June; sisters Elda Hamblin, Ruth Gunyan, Norma Kumer, Marjorie Manning and Carol Maldonado.

Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. tomorrow at the Hossick-Cox Funeral Home in Rosiclare, Ill. Memorial services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Nov. 24 at the Vase Flaming Gorge Chapel in Green River. Rev. Ed Mendenhall will conduct the services.

Friends may call one hour prior to services.

The suggests memorials be made to Hospice of Sweetwater County.

John Joseph "Jack" Hamilton

John Joseph "Jack" Hamilton, 74, Rock Springs, died Nov. 15, at his home following a brief illness.

He was born Jan. 16, 1929, in Rock Springs, the second son of the late James and Ada Bunner Hamilton.

He attended schools in Rock Springs and married Lois Tremelling in 1946.

He was employed as a heavy equipment operator for 50 years and retired from Ted's Construction in 1991.

He was an avid sportsman and loved to spend his time at his place in Pinedale.

He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles #151.

Survivors include his wife of Rock Springs; one son, James Hamilton and partner Phil of Chandler, Ariz.; one daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Lewis Brown of Rock Springs; one sister, June McCurtain and husband Bruce of Anchorage; three grandchildren; seven grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother James Hamilton; one sister Elaine Hamilton; and one daughter Debra Ann Hamilton.

Following cremation at the Vase White Mountain Crematory, a memorial service was be conducted Tuesday at the Rock Springs Municipal cemetery Gerald Tremelling conducted the services.

The family respectfully suggests donations in his memory be made to Cowboy's Against Cancer, c/o Margaret Parry, PO Box 103, Green River.

Geraldine Ruth Stephens

Geraldine Ruth Stephens, 74, Green River, died Nov. 15 at Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County after a lengthy illness.

She was born June 4, 1929, in St. Joseph, Mo., the daughter of the late Gerald Clinton Paxton and Leota Genevieve McKague Paxton.

She attended schools in Hiawatha, Kan. and Green River, graduating from Green River High School with the class of 1947. She married Clyde L. Stephens in Evanston, in 1961. She was a clerk for Union Pacific Railroad for 44 years until her retirement in 1992.

She was a member of the Episcopal Church, the Eastern Star, Green River Eagles Auxiliary, Fire Hole Gang, Sweetwater County Historical Society, Good Sams, Daughters of the Nile and PEO Sorority.

Her interests include bowling, crocheting, canasta, cards, and she was a volunteer for many years at St. Johnâs Episcopal Thrift Shop in Green River.

Survivors include her husband of Green River; two sons,

William Clyde Stephens and wife Susan of Douglasville, Pa., and James Chester Stephens of Washington, DC; one daughter, Ardith Cruz of Cheyenne; one brother, Richard Paxton and wife Norma Jean of Green River; two sisters, Peggy Jo Carrillo and husband Tom of Rock Springs, and Jackie Sanchez and husband Roger of Green River; 10 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brother Fredrick Paxton, sister Carol Stover, and first husband Donald D. Smith.

Cremation has taken place at Fox Crematory Rock Springs.

Memorial services were conducted this morning at St. John's Episcopal Church. Rev. Russell Johnson officiated. Inurnment will be in the Riverview cemetery.

Elizabeth "Betty" Haanpaa

Elizabeth "Betty" Haanpaa, 56, Green River, died Nov. 25 at the L.D.S. Hospital in Salt Lake City where she had been a patient for one day.

She was born Nov. 16, 1947, in Townsend, Mont., the daughter of Ernest C. and Marguerite J. Wieferich Miller.

She attended schools there and was a graduate of Broadwater High School.

She married Daniel Haanpaa in Great Falls, Mont. in 1971.

Her interests include quilting, sewing, bowling, taking care of her grandchildren and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her husband a of Green River; her mother, Peggy Miller of Milkriver, Canada; one son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Cathy Haanpaa of Rock Springs; two daughters Tanya Haanpaa and Tara Smith and husband Lee, all of Green River; one brother, Chris Miller of Helena, Mont.; one sister, Trish Taylor and husband Skip of Havre, Mont.; four grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Following cremation a memorial service was conducted yesterday at the Vase Flaming Gorge Chapel in Green River.

The family suggests that memorials be made to Hospice of Sweetwater County, 809 Thompson Street, Suite D, Rock Springs.

Kaylee R. Holmes

Kaylee R. Holmes, 8, Green River, died Sunday at the Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City.

She was born on July 6, 1995, the daughter of Bradley and Glenda Boswell Holmes.

She attended schools in Green River and was a student at the Harrison Elementary School in the second grade.

She was an avid music enthusiast and loved Barney.

She was a member of the First Assembly of God in Green River.

Survivors include her parents Brad and Glenda Holmes of Green River; one brother Wade Homes of Green River; one sister Autumn Holmes of Green River; her paternal grandparents, David and Wynema Holmes of Palmer, Texas; her maternal grandparents, Wesley and Betty Boswell of Waxachachie, Texas; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her aunt Rebecca McCoy and her paternal and maternal great-grandparents.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. tomorrow at the First Assembly of God Church corner of Hitching Post and Bridger Ave.

Graveside services and interment will be in the Riverview cemetery. Friends may call at the Vase Flaming Gorge Chapel until 8 p.m. today and again tomorrow morning one hour prior to services.

Melba E. Barker

Melba E. Barker, 84,Green River, Dec. 1 at Castle Rock Convalescent Center in Green River.

She was born July 1, 1919, in Ogden, Utah, the daughter of Leroy and Nellie Robins Hayward. She attended schools in Evanston and married John H. Barker in 1941 in Paris, Idaho. He preceded her in death in 1986.

She was employed as a waitress at numerous restaurants in Green River and Evanston. She also worked in the shops for U.P. Rail Road in Evanston.

Her interests included crocheting, gardening and spending time with her family.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, John F. and Barbara Barker of Green River; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sharlene K. and Myron Kaml, and Sherry E. and Wilbur Bryant, all of Green River; one sister Leola (Lola) Robertson and husband Denver of Evanston; four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Elroy, Donald, and George, son-in-law Milton Dockter, and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Dec. 6 at the Green River LDS Church, 1000 W. 4 North, Green River, where friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to the services.

Interment will take place at Evanston City cemetery in Evanston.

Blaine Potter

Blaine Potter, 71, Edgewater, Fla., died Nov. 29 at the Florida Hospital Ormond, in Ormond, Fla. where he had been a patient and in ill health for the past three years.

He was born Jan. 4, 1932, in Green River, the son of the late Charles A. and Wanda Greenhalgh Potter.

He attended schools in Reliance and was a graduate of the Reliance High School with the class of 1951.

He was an avid basketball player. He also attended and graduated from the Ogden Beauty College where he obtained his license in cosmetology. He owned and operated Blaine's Beauty Salon for many years and later drove truck until his retirement.

He married Florence Delgado and they later divorced. He later married Wanda Mann in Evanston.

His interests included spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife Wanda Potter of Edgewater, Fla.; three sons, Tom Potter of Rock Springs; Shane Heikes of Orlando and Tony Heikes of Purcell, Okla.; five daughters, Darlene Urutia and husband Robert, Connie Lucas, all of Rock Springs; Tanya McGarvey and husband Bill of Reliance; Dovee Rust of Laurinburg, N.C. and Roxann Todd of Edgewater, Fla.; two brothers, Ted and Tim Potter both of Green River; two sisters, Barta Andrews of Ogden and Patsy Lowseth of Green River; 19 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

He preceded in death by his parents, one son, Ronnie Potter; one brother, Tom Potter, and one nephew, Jerry Lee Potter.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. tomorrow at the Vase Funeral Chapel. Graveside services and interment will be at the Paul J. Wataha Memorial Park cemetery in Rock Springs.

Friends may call at the Vase Funeral Chapel one hour prior to services.

Elizabeth "Betty" Haanpaa

Mary Novelia Brock Smith

Mary Novelia Brock Smith, 96, Green River, died Dec. 16 at the Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County following a brief illness.

She was born Oct. 5, 1907, in St. Jo, Texas, the daughter of the late George and Minni Webb Brock.

She attended schools in Hugo, Okla., and received her nursing degree at the Scott and White Hospital Nursing School in Temple, Texas, where she graduated in 1931.

She married Hubert F. Smith Sr. in 1934 in Temple, Texas, and they later divorced. He preceded her in death in 1964.

She was employed as a private duty nurse and retired in 1968.

She was a member of the Church of Christ in Green River.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, H.F. and Shirley Smith of Green River; four grandchildren, Jesse Smith, Cheryl Black and husband James, Matt Smith and wife Kim, and Amanda Morgan and husband Tony, and nine great-grandchildren.

Cremation will take place at Vase White Mountain Crematory.

Dragica Agostini

Dragica Agostini, 79, Rock Springs, died Nov. 21 at Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County where she had been a patient for the past four days.

She was born Aug. 26, 1924, in Croatia, the daughter of Joze and Manda Pivac.

She attended school in Superior High School in 1941.

She married Joe Agostini in 1952 in Rock Springs and he precede her in death in 1991.

She was a member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Community and the C.F.U. Lodge.

Her interests included baking and spending time with her family and her grandchildren.

Survivors include her two sons and daughters-in-law, Joe and Carol Agostini and John and Kim Agostini; four grandchildren; one brother, Ante Pivac of Croatia; several nieces and nephews, also in Croatia.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one brother.

A mass of Christian burial was celebrated this morning at the Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Rock Springs. Father John Savio and Father Tom Sheridan co-celebrated.

Graveside services and interment took place in the Paul J. Wataha Memorial Park cemetery.
