Joanne Williamson

Joanne Williamson, 53, Green River, died Dec. 11 at her home following a brief illness.

She was born March 6, 1950, in Rock Springs the daughter of Malaquias and Amelia Muniz Arguello.

She attended schools in Rock Springs and was a graduate of the Rock Springs High School with the class of 1969 and also attended the Parks Business School.

She married Norman Williamson in Rock Springs in 1970.

She has been employed as a CNA at the Castle Rock Convalescent Center and for Wyoming Home Health. She also had worked as a dialysis tech.

Her interests included her family and grandchildren.

She was a member of the Roman Catholic Church.

Survivors include her husband of Green River; her mother Amelia Arguello of Reliance; one son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Traci Williamson and wife Traci of Rock Springs; two daughters, Coral Williamson of Missoula, Mont. and Daniall Williamson of Casper; three brothers, Leroy Arguello and wife Sue, Ronnie Arguello and Edward Arguello and wife Lillian, all of Reliance; two sisters, Luggie Peterson of Denver, and Vivian Martinez of Mesa, Ariz.; nine grandchildren; several aunts, uncles cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father Malaquias "Shorty" Arguello, paternal grandparents Tibucio and Tonita Arguello and maternal grandparents Guerillmo and Maria Muniz, her father-in-law and mother-in-law A.D. and Emma Williamson.

A mass of Christian burial was celebrated today at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Rock Springs. Father Tom Sheridan officiated.

The family suggests donations in her memory be made to Hospice of Sweetwater County, 809 Thompson Street, Suite D, Rock Springs, 82901 or Rocky Mountain Home Health 535 Uinta Drive, Green River, 82935.

Arthur Beveridge

Arthur Beveridge, 87, died at the Life Care Center in Greeley, Colo., where he had been a resident since June.

He was born Dec. 27, 1915, the son of the late Henry Beveridge and Mabel Clark. He attended schools in Rock Springs and graduated from Rock Springs High School.

He married Alice Williams in 1940 and she preceded him in death in 1998. He married Edith Decora in 2000

He was a master electrician and the oldest member of the Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He was an electrical contractor for A & B Electric.

His interests included traveling, boating and fishing. He was a geographer and a member of the BPO Elks Lodge.

Survivors include his wife of Rock Springs; one son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Lynda Beveridge of Evans, Colo., one sister, Cora Berta of Rock Springs; four grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and his first wife, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Florence Fitzgerald, Gertrude Kourbelas and Lucille Lamons; six brothers, Jack, Charles, George, Wallace, Robert and Henry; one son Arthur Charles Beveridge, and one nephew, Tom Fitzgerald.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday at the First Congregational Church in Rock Springs.

Entombment will be in the Beveridge Mausoleum in the Rock Springs Municipal cemetery.

Friends may call at the Vase Funeral Chapel tomorrow until 8 p.m. and at the church one hour prior to services.

Susan Alice Smith Young

Susan Alice Smith Young, 93, died at her home at 502 B Street, on Nov. 23, 2003, after a brief illness.

She was born Dec. 10, 1909, on Staten Island near New York City. Her parents, Keith Smith and Helen Garrett Smith, originally from New York, were ranchers in Linwood, Utah, for 55 years until the Flaming Gorge Dam was built, flooding some of their property on Henry's Fork.

Mrs. Young went to school in New York and graduated from Smith College in Northampton, Mass., in 1933, where she majored in art. She taught art at Buckingham School in Cambridge, Mass., studied at the Grand Central Art School in New York City and later taught at Chatham Hall in Chatham, Va.

She always returned to the family ranch at Linwood for the summer, where she spent time outdoors and painted landscapes of Flaming Gorge country.

In 1958, she married Harry Young, an engineer at FMC and moved to Green River. He died in 1976. She was interested in family and children and painted portraits of family members and of her friends' children. Mrs. Young had an exhibition of her artwork at Western Wyoming College Art Gallery in 1988, including wood cuts, oil paintings, pastels and water colors. Subsequently, she had an exhibition at the Fine Arts Center on C Street.

Mrs. Young moved from Green River to Rock Springs in 1995 to join her brother-in-law and sister, John Hay Jr. and Frances Hay.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Dec. 3, 2003 at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Communion in Rock Springs.

Warren L. Riggs

Warren L. Riggs, 69, Fort Bridger, died Nov. 22 in Evanston.

He was born June 25, 1934 in Manila, the son of the late William Nathaniel and Edith Edna Deck Riggs.

He married Irene Boyton in 1953. He worked for many years as a machine operator for Church and Dwight.

He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, horseback riding, boating, motorcycles and music.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Raymond Riggs of Rock Springs, Kevin Riggs and wife Patricia of Fort Bridger, and Darold Riggs and wife Vicki of Spokane, Wash.; two daughters, Sherri Lynn Fanning of Fort Bridger and Carol Veith of Perryville, Alaska; one brother, Larry Dean Riggs of West valley City, Utah; three sisters, Evelyn Narramore of Casper, Susan Oppermann of West Valley City, Utah, and Judy Montgomery of Gibbon, Neb.; 19 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Roland, a grandson, Zacheriah and his step-father, Fred Yendra.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Lyman Stake Center of the L.D.S. Church in Urie.

Friends may call one hour prior to services.

Kaylee R. Holmes

Kaylee R. Holmes, 8, Green River, died Sunday at the Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City.

She was born on July 6, 1995, the daughter of Bradley and Glenda Boswell Holmes.

She attended schools in Green River and was a student at the Harrison Elementary School in the second grade.

She was an avid music enthusiast and loved Barney.

She was a member of the First Assembly of God in Green River.

Survivors include her parents Brad and Glenda Holmes of Green River; one brother Wade Homes of Green River; one sister Autumn Holmes of Green River; her paternal grandparents, David and Wynema Holmes of Palmer, Texas; her maternal grandparents, Wesley and Betty Boswell of Waxachachie, Texas; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her aunt Rebecca McCoy and her paternal and maternal great-grandparents.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. tomorrow at the First Assembly of God Church corner of Hitching Post and Bridger Ave.

Graveside services and interment will be in the Riverview cemetery. Friends may call at the Vase Flaming Gorge Chapel until 8 p.m. today and again tomorrow morning one hour prior to services.

Joseph R. "Joey" Jelaca

Joseph R. "Joey" Jelaca, 55, Rock Springs, died on Dec. 6 at the Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County following a sudden illness.

He was born Aug. 11, 1948, in Rock Springs, the son of Joseph "Baker" and Olga Bergamo Jelaca.

He attended schools in Rock Springs and was a graduate of the Rock Springs High School with the class of 1966. He married Pamela McKay at St. Mary's Cathedral in Cheyenne in 1969.

He had been employed at General Chemical since 1968 as a safety engineer and governmental affairs representative.

He was active in the Vase Emergency Medical Services before any state standards were set, and was licensed as an emergency medical technician and later certified as an EMT II. He was instrumental in training all of the EMTs throughout the county.

He was a member of the Holy Spirit Catholic community, past president of Hospice of Sweetwater County, past chairman of the Sweetwater County Democratic Party, past member of the United Steel Worker's of America Local 15320, and BPO Elks Lodge. His interests included camping, fly fishing, woodworking and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife; his mother; one son, Jason Jelaca, all of Rock Springs; two daughters, Lisa Hautala and husband Pat, also of Rock Springs, and Kara Jelaca of Denver; one brother, David Jelaca of LaQuinta, Calif.; one sister, Mary Slagowski and husband Blaine of Rock Springs; six grandchildren and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father Joseph "Baker" Jelaca and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bob and Shirley Morrisey.

A mass of Christan Burial was be celebrated today at the Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Rock Springs. Father Tom Sheridan officiated.

Graveside services and interment were in the Saint Joseph's Section of the Rock Springs Municipal cemetery.

The family suggests memorials be made to Hospice of Sweetwater County.

Ivy Beveridge

Ivy Beveridge, 57, Rock Springs, passed away on Dec. 3, 2003 at her home. She was a longtime resident of Rock Springs.

She was born Sept. 6, 1946, the daughter of Berness W. Edwards and Lola Cecelia Pasquini.

She attended schools in Rock Springs and was a 1965 graduate of the Rock Springs High School. She also attended St. Scholastica in Canon City, Colo.

She married Arthur Beveridge on June 19, 1965, in Rock Springs. He passed away on Jan. 2, 1992.

She worked as a contract administrator in the construction and oil field for many years.

She was a member of the Sweetwater County Museum Board and was a State Spelling Bee champion.

Survivors include stepfather Andy Legerski and wife Rosina of Rock Springs; one son, Russell Beveridge of Rock Springs; one daughter, Kris Beveridge of Lakewood, Colo.; two brothers, Paul Legerski and wife Carol of Rock Springs; Gene Legerski and wife Becky of Casper; two sisters, Cecelia Jernegan and husband J.L. of Palm Springs, Calif., Tena Oehler and husband Russ of Tigord, Ore., brother-in-law and sister-in-law Jin and Lynda Beveridge of Greeley, Colo.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, father and mother-in-law, Art and Alice Beveridge.

Following cremation at the Vase White Mountain Crematory, a memorial mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Dec. 11 at the Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, "A" Street and Broadway, Rock Springs. Father John Savio will officiate. A parish rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the rosary on Wednesday and Thursday till time of the serivces. Cremation will take place at the Vase White Mountain Crematory.

The family of Ivy Beveridge respectfully suggests memorials be made to the Rock Springs Humane Society, 310 Yellowstone Road, Rock Springs, Wyoming.

The family will be receiving visitors at the home of Russ Beveridge at 613 Central Street, Rock Springs.

Homero Flores

Homero Flores, 60, Green River, died Nov. 30 at his home following a sudden illness.

He was born June 11, 1943, in Mexico, the son of Homero and Alicia Reyes Flores. He married Shirley Ann Coleman in Green River in 2000.

He was employed as a shuttle car driver for General Chemical for 29 years until his retirement last year.

He was a member of the United Steelworkers of America.

Survivors include his wife Shirley of Green River; his mother of Ceuernavaca, Mexico; two brothers, Salvador and Eduardo Flores; two sisters, Elvia Flores deMontemibio and Virginia Flores; one step-daughter, Kim Stephensen and husband Mark of Kemmerer; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father; his maternal and paternal grandparents.

A mass of Christian burial was celebrated Dec. 6 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Green River, Father Tom Sheridan officiating.

Cremation followed the service.

Manual John Portillo

Manual John Portillo,Rock Springs, died Dec. 8 at the Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County where he had been a patient for the past two weeks and in ill health for the past few years.

He was born Jan. 27, 1923, in California, the son of the late Isable and Teresa Guiteres Portillo.

He attended and graduated from the Rock Springs High School. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II.

He was employed at FMC as a miner for 32 years and retired in 1989.

He was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic community and his interests included spending time with his family, playing cards, and he was an avid Denver Broncos fan.

Survivors include five sons, Dennis Portillo and wife Lori of Rock Springs, Robert Portillo and wife Lisa of North Carolina, Mark Portillo and companion Robbin Sherman of Rock Springs, Paul Portillo and companion Lynn Layland of Pinedale, Brian Protillo and wife Kristy of Rock Springs; one daughter and son-in-law Teresa and Lewis Cooper of Pennsicola, Fla.; three brothers, Ralph Portillo and Jesse Portillo, both of Rock Springs, and Joe Portillo of Arizona; five sisters, Jenny Murphy and husband of Arizona, Stella Martinez of Rock Springs, Mona Ortiz of Utah, Margie Bell of Idaho, Julia Tippes of Idaho and Clara Osper of Nebraska; ten grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Marie Portillo, and one sister-in-law, Angie Portillo.

A mass of Christian burial will be conducted Monday at Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, Father John Savio officiating. A parish rosary will be recited Sunday at 7 p.m. at the church.

Military graveside services and interment will be conducted at the Rock Springs cemetery by the American Legion Archie Hay Post 24.

Tom Jones

A memorial luncheon will be conducted Dec. 30 at 1 p.m. at the Eagles in Green River for Tom Jones, 51, Grand Junction, Colo., who died at his home Dec. 14 following a lengthy illness.

He was born Oct. 7, 1952, in San Diego, Calif. He went to work for General Chemical as an underground mechanic in 1976.

He was promoted to shift maintenance coordinator and worked there until illness forced him to resign.

Survivors include his father, Frank Jones, and one sister, Lola Hayes, both of Grand Junction; two sons, Jason Jones of Mesquite, Nev., and John Jones of Lyman; and one granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

William T. "Bill" Arnold

William T. "Bill" Arnold, 94, died Dec. 16 in Basin.

He was born Jan 27 , 1909, in Ten Sleep, the son of the late Alva Bert and Althe Mabel Jacobs Arnold.

He married Georgia Geroutte in Worland in 1936 and she preceded him in death last April.

He worked tending sheep for several years on ranches in the Ten Sleep area before moving to Orchard Bench south of Basin. He worked for Pure Oil, the U.S. Forest Service and Holly Sugar.

In 1966, he began farming at Orchard Bench, until his retirement in 1980.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Don Van Matre of Green River; and one son and daughter-in-law, Bud and Kathy Arnold of Basin; and one sister, Alta Calton of Worland.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.

Cremation has taken place and no services are planned at this time.

Wanda Jane Collins

Wanda Jane Collins, 85, Cheyenne, died Dec. 20 in Cheyenne.

She was born July 29, 1918, in Washington, the daughter of the late Pat and Lillian Brow. Her family moved to a ranch south of Douglas when she was a baby. She attended schools and married Glen Collins in Douglas in 1935.

After the death of her husband in 1977, she moved to Green River and worked with her family at the Log Inn Supper Club.

Survivors include one son, Glen Collins of Port Orchard, Wash.; three daughters, Yvonne Quintal of Cheyenne, Darlene VanValkenburg of Green River and Alma Tolle of Albuquerque; 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, four sisters and two grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted in Riverton.
