J. Thomas Hannon Sr.

STORY — J. Thomas Hannon Sr., 79, of Story died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2001, at his home. Private graveside services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Masonic (Acacia) Section of Sheridan Municipal cemetery with the Rev. Ray Clark, the Rev. Richard Edgerton and Big Horn Mountain Lodge 43 officiating. Military Rites will be by the Wyoming National Guard and American Legion John Donald Garbutt Post 7. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Buffalo with the Rev. Ray Clark and the Rev. Richard Edgerton officiating. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Hannon was born June 9, 1922, in Rockaway, N.J. to Thomas J. and Helen A. (Pearn) Hannon. He grew up in Rockaway and attended public schools there, graduating from high school in 1939. He attended Yale University in 1943, took his officer’s training at Northwestern University and graduated from Ohio University with a bachelor of science degree in 1947. He served in the United States Navy from 1942-46. He married Marilyn Johnson June 27, 1948, in St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Sheridan. He was in medical research for the Merck Co. of Rahway, N.J. , before joining the Fidelity Union Trust Co. of Newark, N.J., in 1953. He retired as vice president of the company in 1983, and he and Mrs. Hannon moved to Story. He was a member of Big Horn Mountain Lodge 43 A.F. & A.M., Sheridan Scottish Rite Bodies, Kalif Temple A.A.O.N.M.S., the Story Lions Club, Sales Executive Club and Sons of Ireland in New Jersey and St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Sheridan. He was a former member of St. Luke’s Choir in Buffalo. He was preceded in death by a sister. Survivors include his wife, of Story; three sons, J. Thomas (Biff) Hannon Jr. of Santa Monica, Calif., James of Palo Alto, Calif., and Timothy of Driggs, Idaho; two daughters, Peggy Thornton of Virginia Beach, Va., and Sally Roberts of Collegeville, Pa.; a sister, Joyce Salton of Winter Haven, Fla.; and 10 grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Hospice of John County or the Story Library in care of Delphine Toner, First Interstate Bank, Sheridan.

Roy D. French

Longtime Clearmont-area resident Roy D. French, 53, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2001, at Campbell County Memorial Hospital in Gillette of a heart attack. Services are 2 p.m. Saturday at Arvada School Gymnasium with Pastor Joe Barber officiating. Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. today at Wilson Funeral Home, Gillette, and one hour prior to services at the gymnasium. Burial with full military honors by American Legion Post 42 will follow at Arvada cemetery. Mr. French was born Dec. 15, 1947, in Gillette to Henry John and Della Rae (West) French. He moved at age 5 to Arvada, where he grew up and graduated from high school in 1966. He attended Sheridan College for two years, majoring in forestry. In 1968 he enlisted in the Navy, where he was a jet mechanic. He served overseas on patrol squadron VP 19 during the Vietnam War, and was discharged in 1972. After the service, he bought cattle and acquired a ranch north of Leiter, where he lived until his death. He attended Clearmont Community Church and enjoyed his four nephews, five nieces, five great-nephews and two great-nieces, who survive him. Additional survivors include his father of Buffalo; two sisters, DLynn Schye, Glasgow, Mont., and Ellen Widhalm, Great Falls, Mont.; and two brothers, Delbert French, Arvada, and Sam French, Anchorage, Alaska. He was preceded in death by his mother and an infant brother, William Ray French. Memorials may benefit Clearmont Community Church in care of Wilson Funeral Home, PO Box 734, Gillette, WY 82717.

Margaret I. May, 85, Sheridan, died Friday, Oct. 12, 2001, at Westview Health Care Center. Arrangements are pending with Kane Funeral Home.

David Woodson

David “Douglas” Woodson, 68, of Naples, Fla., died Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2001, in Naples after a long illness. He was brother of Grant Woodson of Sheridan. Funeral services were Monday at the Teahen Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, with the Rev. Robert Ruppert officiating. Burial was in Morrison Township cemetery. Mr. Woodson was born Jan. 16, 1933, in Cedar Rapids to Beryl and Adelaide Woodson. He married Mary Wilbricht Dec. 27, 1958, in Menominee, Ill. He was a retired employee of Northwestern Bell. His parents and wife preceded him in death. Survivors include a son, Michael of Maple Grove, Minn.; a daughter, Michelle Yanda of Naples; a second brother, Bruce of Pittsburgh; his stepmother, Jayne of Cedar Rapids; and two granddaughters. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Marshall Sausedo

Marshall R. Sausedo, 81, of Sheridan died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2001, at the Sheridan VA Medical Center. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Kane Funeral Home with Pastor Tony Forman officiating. Interment will be in Sheridan Municipal cemetery. Mr. Sausedo was born Jan. 6, 1920, to Pablo and Roxsy (Stevenson) Sausedo in Olin, Mont. His mother died when he was 8 years old, and he was raised by his grandparents. He lived in Sheridan briefly as a child. He entered the U.S. Army in 1940 and served until 1945. He worked as a sheepherder and ranch hand before becoming a heavy-equipment operator. He later worked as an armored-truck driver. He married Florene Dotson Jan. 28, 1994, in Casper. He was preceded in death by a brother, Joe; half brother Gaylord Hodson; one sister, Violet Sausedo; a stepdaughter, Karen Portwood; and a granddaughter. Survivors include his wife of Sheridan; four daughters, Marsha Nijhuis of British Columbia, Canada, Freda Marrero of Casper, Anita Alvarez of Sparks, Nev., and Connie Sausedo of Lincoln, Neb.; a son, John Ray of Franklin, Tenn.; a stepson, Marshall Sausedo of Farmington, N.M.; a brother, Leo of California; five other stepchildren; 16 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Cornerstone Church or donor’s choice in care of Kay Roush, First Federal Savings Bank, P.O. Box 6007, Sheridan, WY 82801.

Larry Tibbets

Larry Eugene Tibbets, 61, of Sheridan died Friday, Oct. 5, 2001, at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be at a later date. Kane Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Tibbets was born March 4, 1940, in Sheridan to Ancil O. and Lois Barnes Tibbets. After attending high school, he served in the U.S. Army. He returned to Sheridan upon his discharge. He worked many years as a laborer for Decker Coal Mine in Decker, Mont., and retired in 1987. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include three daughters, Robin (Kent) Brown, Estes Park, Colo., Terri Tibbets of Billings and Randi Tibbets-Connolly of Sheridan; four granddaughters and two grandsons; and a brother, Rex Heselius of Woodbridge, Va.

Kenneth Darco

Kenneth R. Darco, 49, of Sheridan died Friday, Oct. 5, 2001, in the VA Medical Center. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Family Life Center with the Rev. Kent Bahruth officiating. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Darco was born Aug. 16, 1952, in Portland, Ore., to Richard N. and Barbara Jean (Christian) Darco. The family moved around the United States to various military installations and spent a year in Panama. He attended Washington High School in Denver, then enlisted in the Army in 1969. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He lived in Sheridan after his service, and married Dorothy Parker here in January 1995. He enjoyed typing and composing poetry and was a member of Family Life Center. He was preceded in death by his mother. Survivors include his wife of Sheridan; a daughter, Melissa Marie of Oregon; his father of North Carolina; a brother, Richard N. Darco Jr. of Seattle; a sister, Debra J. Darco of Portland; and nine step-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army in care of Delphine Toner, First Interstate Bank in Sheridan.

Frank Collier

Former Sheridan resident Frank Robert Collier, 43, of Sundance died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2001, in a logging accident outside Sundance. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. today at Fidler-Roberts Funeral Chapel in Sundance with the Rev. Gary Maier officiating. Mr. Collier was born Jan. 31, 1958, in Laramie to Roy and Gaydell (Maier) Collier. He was a 1976 graduate of Laramie High School and attended Sheridan College, receiving an associate of science degree. He graduated from the University of Wyoming. Survivors include his parents of Sundance; two brothers, Sam of Albany, Ore., and Fred of Eugene, Ore.; and a sister, Jenny Gilbertson of Sundance. Memorials may be made to the Insured Loggers Fund, Humane Society of the Black Hills, Sundance Volunteer Fire Department and Emergency Services, the Farrall Fire Zone or a charity of the donor’s choice.

Murray Jenrich

Murray Jenrich, 71, of Sheridan died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001, at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Visitation is 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Kane Funeral Home. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at Kane Funeral Home with Pastors Douglas Goodwin and Tony Forman co-officiating. Kane Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Evelyn Dorn, 94, of Sheridan died Friday, Oct. 5, 2001, at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Arrangements are pending with Kane Funeral Home.

Mary Jane Heiman

Former Sheridan resident Mary Jane Heiman, 80, of Casper died Monday, Oct. 1, 2001, after a short illness. At her request, there will be no service. Bustard’s Funeral Home & Crematory of Casper is handling arrangements. Mrs. Heiman was born Jan. 19, 1921, in Sheridan to Lester Raymond Tyson and Valentine (Roberts) Tyson. She graduated from Sheridan High School. She married Robert Heiman in 1948. They spent most of their married life in Casper but lived briefly in Worland. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, baking bread and gardening. She worked seasonally for many years for the Natrona County treasurer, licensing automobiles. She was preceded in death by her husband in December and by a sister, Sue Amen. Survivors include a daughter, Margaret Parsons of Boise, Idaho; a brother, Ray Tyson of Vine Grove, Ky.; a sister, Patricia Moncini in Issaquah, Wash.; and two grandchildren. A donation may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Lee Sams

Lee R. Sams, 72, of the Bay Horse, Mont., area died Monday, Oct. 1, 2001, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Mr. Sams was brother of Ethel Hansen, Irene O’Daniels and Betty Ross, all of Sheridan. Viewing will be from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Wednesday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Rev. Douglas Goodwin officiating. Interment will be in Sheridan Municipal cemetery. Mr. Sams was born Oct. 25, 1928, in Crosby, N.D., to Ernest and May (Flory) Sams. The family came to Wyoming when he was a child, and he attended rural schools. He ranched with his father for a while. He married Virginia Bates in 1948. Mr. Sams ranched his whole life in the Bay Horse area. He married Sally Ferguson Feb. 10, 1994, in Miles City, Mont. He enjoyed dancing, playing cards and his horses and cows. He was preceded in death by a brother, Lloyd, and a sister, Dorothy DeWitt. Other survivors include his wife of Bay Horse; three sons, Harry “Skeet” of Riverside, Calif., James of Bay Horse and William Buckendahl of San Luis Obispo, Calif.; four stepsons, Robert Ferguson of Circle Pine, Minn., Tony Ferguson of Elko, Nev., Paul Ferguson of Miles City, and Donald Ferguson of Lakeside, Calif.; two brothers, Calvin of Gillette and Donald of Ephrata, Wash.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandsons. Memorials may benefit the Leukemia Foundation in care of Delphine Toner, First Interstate Bank, P.O. Box 2007, Sheridan, WY 82801.

Ruth Redle

Ruth Rita Postlewait Redle, 86, of Sheridan died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2001, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Rosary services will be 7 p.m. Friday at Kane Funeral Home. Mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Name Catholic Church with Monsignor Eugene Sullivan officiating. Interment will be in the Sheridan Municipal cemetery. Mrs. Redle was born Oct. 5, 1914, in Independence, Mo., to Gilbert Gear and Nellie Herson Postlewait. She was a 1932 graduate of Saint Mary’s Academy in Leavenworth, Kan., and attended Kansas City College two years. She continued her education studying voice at Cranston School of Music in Kansas City, Mo. She married William D. Redle Oct. 3, 1938, in Independence. They moved to Sheridan. Mrs. Redle volunteered at Holy Name School for many years and helped Mr. Redle schedule accommodations and entertain visiting athletic teams. She taught seventh- and eighth-grade gym classes at Holy Name for many years. She was a lifetime member of the Auxiliary Board of Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County and for many years was in charge of Christmas decorating at the hospital. She also volunteered at the reception desk. Her performance in the lead role of the 1952 Civic Theater Guild production, “The Pleasure of his Company,” helped earn the Guild’s Best Actress Award that year. She also was a past grand prize winner in the Cowbelles’ Cook-off competition. She enjoyed needlework, reading, cooking, flowers and gardening. She was preceded in death by her husband on Dec. 5; and by an infant daughter, Kathleen, and two brothers, James and Robert Postlewait. Survivors include a daughter, Maurita Meehan of Sheridan; a sister, Sister Maurita Postlewait of Leavenworth; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Holy Name Catholic School Foundation or the Dog and Cat Shelter Building Fund in care of Delphine Toner, First Interstate Bank, P.O. Box 2007, Sheridan, WY 82801.

Marty Lange

Marty Lange, 65, of Sheridan died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2001, at her residence. A memorial service will be announced later. The family is handling arrangements. Mrs. Lange was born in June 1936 in Minnesota to Margaret and H. Leigh Scruton. She married Ron Sjolin in 1955; they later divorced. She married Ted Lange in Sheridan in 1984. They later divorced but remained friends until his death in 2000. She was preceded in death by two children, Jody and Jeff. Survivors include children Teree “Sunshine” Wells, Kim Zimmerman, Eric Sjolin and Janelle Dinnitz; four brothers, Bob, John, Gary and Jim Scruton; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Florence Smith

Former Sheridan resident Florence Belus Smith, 67, died Monday, Sept. 17, 2001, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Orange, Calif. Vigil services will be 7 p.m. today at Kane Funeral Home. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Kane Funeral Home with the Rev. Ron Stolcis officiating. Interment will be in Sheridan Municipal cemetery. Mrs. Smith was born Dec. 21, 1933, to Joseph and Helen (Kobielusz) Belus in Sheridan. After high school, she obtained a master’s degree in nursing from the University of Phoenix. She worked as a registered nurse. She enjoyed traveling and the arts, loved roses and collected paperweights. Survivors include two sons, Michael Smith of Silverado Canyon, Calif., and Omar Smith of Phoenix; two daughters, Theresa “Teri” Roberts of Santa Ana, Calif., and Denise Stenzel of Bozeman, Mont.; her mother of Sheridan; two brothers, James Belus of Sheridan and Robert Belus of Banner; and six grandchildren. Harry Stuckenhoff

BUFFALO — Harry Edward Stuckenhoff, 60, of Buffalo died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2001, in a vehicle accident. A celebration of life will be 2-6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, at his ranch, 149 Robinson Canyon Road south of Buffalo. A private family interment will be on the ranch. Arrangements are with Adams Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Terrorist Attack Victims’ Fund in care of Adams Funeral Home.

Cathy McCormack

Former Sheridan resident Cathy Dena McCormack, 36, died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2001, in Marana, Ariz. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. today at Evergreen cemetery in Tucson, Ariz. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday. Ms. McCormack was born Oct. 18,1964, to D’Aun and Kenneth McCormack. She was a 1983 graduate of Sheridan High School. She was preceded in death by her father. Survivors include her mother of Tucson; two sons, Colten Scott McCormack and Branson Chance McCormack; and a sister, Becky Saucerman, of Tea, S.D.

Martha Parker

BILLINGS — Former Sheridan resident Martha T. Parker, 86, of Billings died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2001, at Evergreen Health and Rehabilitation Center. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Sheridan Municipal cemetery. Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist of Billings is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Parker was born April 28, 1915, in Hyattville to Elmer H. and Mary E. Taylor. She moved to Wyola, Mont., in 1931 and to Thermopolis in 1936. She married James R. Parker July 2, 1937, in Cody. They lived in Casper for a short time, then moved to Billings in 1938 and to Sheridan later that year. They ranched south of Sheridan until 1956, when they moved into town. They moved to Billings in February 1962. She was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Order of the Eastern Star Moss Agate Chapter 126 and Daughters of the Nile. Her husband died in 1981. The funeral home lists no survivors. Memorials may be made to St. Luke’s Altar Guild.

Louis Ward

GREYBULL — Louis Mitchell Ward, 83, of Greybull died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2001, at Sheridan VA Medical Center after a long battle with cancer. He was father of Stella Samson of Sheridan. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. today at the Mount View cemetery in Basin with the Rev. George Pasek officiating. Burial will follow. Atwood Family Funeral Directors Inc. is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Ward was born March 27, 1918, in Yale, Okla., to John William Patrick and Ethel Alice (Chambers) Ward. He received his schooling in Claremore, Okla. He married Anna Louise Sanford March 27, 1943, in Claremore. He was at Pearl Harbor as a civilian when it was bombed. He enlisted as a “Sea Bee” in the U.S. Navy and served from 1943-52. He served in the South Pacific, Iwo Jima and Korea building roads and landing strips. He moved to Wyoming in 1956. Other survivors include his wife of Greybull; a son, Louis E. of Gillette; another daughter, Bonnie Ruth Coyne of Greybull; three sisters, Bonnie Huggins of California, Ruth Trost of Missouri and Etta Jean Isaacson of Washington; a brother, Robert of Texas; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Chester Sanders

KAYCEE — Chester Doyle Sanders, 80, of Kaycee died Thursday, Aug. 30, 2001, at Wyoming Medical Center in Casper. Visitation will be 1-10 p.m. today and 8 a.m. until time of services Saturday at Adams Funeral Home in Buffalo. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Adams Funeral Home with the Rev. Tom Saur officiating. Burial will be in Willow Grove cemetery with the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion in charge of military honors.

Ellis Elsom

BUFFALO — Ellis Elsom, 69, died suddenly while traveling in Bismarck, N.D. Visitation will be 1-10 p.m. today and 8-9:30 a.m. Friday at Adams Funeral Home in Buffalo. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Adams Funeral Home Chapel followed by graveside services at the Elsom Family Ranch south of Buffalo. Mr. Elsom was born Oct. 27, 1931, in Buffalo to David and Lila Elsom. He was a 1949 graduate of Buffalo High School and was a veteran of the Korean conflict. He married Harriett Ann Hepp June 17, 1955, in Buffalo. He married Edna Duncan June 26, 1973. She died in 1998. He married Nora Aviles May 8, 2000, in Sheridan. Survivors include his wife of Buffalo; two sons, Larry of Las Vegas and Jim of Buffalo; two daughters, Susan Moyes of Buffalo and Debbie Wentworth of Billings; a brother, J.D. of Buffalo; a sister, Gwen Criss of Wheatland; eight stepchildren, Michele Duncan, Mike Duncan and Scott Duncan, all of Buffalo, Mark Duncan of California, Rodin and Noreen, both of Maryland and Renz and Nazaryne, both of the Philippines; and nine grandchildren. Memorials may be made to United Way in care of Adams Funeral Home.

Paul Jones

Sheridan native Paul Vance Jones, 65, of Buffalo died Thursday, Aug. 23, 2001, after a battle with cancer. An open-house reception in his memory will begin at 11 a.m. Friday at the family home, 25 Robinson Lane in Buffalo. Private interment will be at a later date on the ranch Mr. Jones operated for 30 years near Arvada. Mr. Jones was born March 29, 1936, in Sheridan to Herbert and Gertrude Owen Jones. He grew up on the family ranch near Kirby, Mont., and received his early years of schooling at Big Bend School. He graduated from Sheridan High School in 1954 and attended the University of Colorado-Boulder, where he majored in mechanical engineering. He joined the Army and served at Fitzsimmons Army Hospital in Denver. He returned to the family ranch at Kirby after military duty. He married Kay Moore Bondi in 1962, and they made their home on a ranch near Arvada. He married Kandra Carr Knudson March 24, 1979. He continued to work at the ranch near Arvada and his home in Buffalo until his death. He served on the Predator Board for Sheridan and Johnson counties for many years and was a member of the board of directors for Farm Credit Services of the Midlands’ Production Credit Association from 1990-2000. He served on the PCA regional board from 1986-90. He was a commercial pilot and had been flying since the early 1960s. He was preceded in death by a brother, Bob. Survivors include his wife, Kandra, of Buffalo; three sons, Steve Jones of Anchorage, Alaska, Wesley I. Bondi of Sheridan and Chris Knudson of Gillette; two daughters, Kuyler Jones Coopwood of Boulder and Karmen Knudson of Arvada; and one grandson. Memorials may be made to the Suzie Bowling Lawrence Hospice in care of the Adams Funeral Home, 351 Adams Ave., Buffalo, WY 82834.
