Richard M. Bradley
Richard M. Bradley, 75, of Sheridan, died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2001. Services were Thursday at First Assembly of God in Mountainair, N.M., with the Rev. James Pinckard officiating. Kane Funeral Home handled local arrangements, and Harris-Hanson Mortuary handled arrangements in New Mexico. He was buried Corona, N.M. Mr. Bradley was born to Leroy and Marion (Thompson) Bradley Dec. 12, 1926, in Sapulpa, Okla. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars in Corona, and lived in the Corona and Carrizozo, N.M., area for many years. Survivors include his wife, Janet, of Pueblo, Colo.; sons Benjamin Bradley of Pueblo and Roy Bradley of Carrizozo; stepsons Lucky Myers of Carrizozo, Aaron Burton of Las Cruces, N.M., and Baron Burton of Minnesota; a daughter, Barbara Bradley of Belen, N.M.; stepdaughter Ernestine Normangee of Texas; a brother, Darrel of Raton, N.M.; a sister, Evelyn Miller of Deming, N.M.; and six grandchildren.
Tom T. Hornbeck
LARAMIE — Tom T. Hornbeck, 68, of Elk Mountain died Monday, Dec. 17, 2001, at Ivinson Memorial Hospital. Survivors include a brother, Jack Hornbeck, of Sheridan. Memorial services are 11 a.m. Monday at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Rawlins with the Rev. Robin Chance officiating. Inurnment will follow at a later date in Reader cemetery in Savery. Survivors include two sons, John of Saratoga and Kirby of Hanna; a sister, Jo Schultz of Rawlins; and a second brother, Andy Hornbeck of Rawlins. Carole Jean Welsh
YARNELL, Ariz. — Carole Jean Welsh, 60, died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001. Survivors include a brother, Leroy Powers, of Sheridan. Services were Saturday in Phoenix. Mrs. Welsh was born Aug. 7, 1941, in Miles City, Mont., to Harry S. Powers and Rosa Belle Kelsey. She married
Gary Not Afraid and later divorced. She married
Larry Welsh in 1982, and Mr. Welsh died in 1997. She moved to Phoenix in 1970. She started out ranching, and after moving to Arizona in 1970 she owned and operated restaurants, sold cars, worked in antiques and drove cattle trucks. Survivors include four children, Dannelle Hyatt of Phoenix, Mike Not Afraid of Crow Agency, Mont., and Michelle Armajo and Julie Cummins, both of Lodge Grass, Mont.; nine grandchildren; one sister, Marjorie Bawden of Las Alamitos, Calif.; and two additional brothers, Lynn Powers of Sidney, Mont., and Jimmy Kale of Miles City.
Kathryn L. Thompson
Kathryn L. Thompson, 86, of Buffalo died Monday, Dec. 17, 2001, at the Johnson County Health Care Center. Memorial services are 2 p.m. Monday at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Buffalo with the Rev. John Orwig officiating. Adams Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Interment will be in Belmont cemetery in Youngstown, Ohio, with services in Conneaut, Ohio, at a later date. Rebecca Frazier, 92, of Buffalo died Monday, Dec. 17, 2001, at Johnson County Health Care Center. Funeral services are 2 p.m. Friday at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church with the Rev. Dick Edgerton and Cannon Ray Clark officiating. Burial will be in Willow Grove cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the St. Francis Animal Shelter in care of Adams Funeral Home.
Zane K. Hepp
Zane K. Hepp, 69, died Monday, Dec. 17, 2001, at his home in Sheridan. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Saturday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with Mack Bischoff officiating. Burial will be at Quiet Rest cemetery in Story.
Della Katherine Evans
Della Katherine Evans, 103, of Sheridan died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2001, at Westview Health Care Center. Services were at James Memorial United Methodist Church in Hudson, Colo., Dec. 12. She was born Sept. 20, 1898, to James William Wells and Alma Asbury in Greensburg, Mo. She attended college in Culver-Stockton, Mo. Her family moved to Yuma, Colo., where she taught school at age 17. She later worked at the Yuma Post Office, where she met James William Evans. They married
July 3, 1925, in Loveland, Colo. She lived in Hudson from 1953 to 1944. She was active in the Garden Club and the James United Methodist Church in Hudson, where she taught Sunday school until she was 91. She was preceded in death by her husband and two sons, James Howard Evans and David James Evans. Survivors include one sister-in-law, five grandsons, three great-granddaughters, three step-great-great-grandchildren, one step-granddaughter, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Kane Funeral Home was in charge of local arrangements, and Rice Mortuary and Crematory handled services in Colorado.
Beatrice Henderson
STORY — Beatrice B. Henderson, 81, of Story died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001, at her residence. Cremation has taken place, and memorial services will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Story Women’s Club with the Rev. Verne Robinson officiating. Kane Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Mrs. Henderson was born Nov. 13, 1920, in Wilmar, Calif., to Ernest and Alice (Hayes) Burley. She completed high school and received a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of California at Berkeley. She married
Richard P. Henderson May 20, 1949, in Berkeley. She enjoyed gardening, knitting, crocheting, sewing and reading. She loved to travel and collected Nativity sets. She attended Story Community Church and was a member of the Story Garden Club. Survivors include her husband of Story; two sons, Richard of Glen Burnie, Md., and Hal of Los Angeles; two daughters, Betty Gardner of Sheridan and Julie Caster of Worden, Mont.; two brothers, Gilman Burley of Paradise, Calif., and Cameron Burley of Mariposa, Calif.; two sisters, Dorothy McCune of Mariposa and Rosalyn Henderson of Portland, Ore.; and eight grandchildren.
Francis Gallant
BUFFALO — Francis James Gallant, 84, of Buffalo died Monday, Dec. 10, 2001, at Amie Holt Care Center. Visitation will be 1-5 p.m. today at Adams Funeral Home Chapel. Rosary will be 7 tonight at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Catholic Church with Father Charles Taylor officiating. Kenneth Namtvedt
Kenneth M. Namtvedt, 77, of Sheridan died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001, in the Sheridan VA Medical Center. Graveside committal of cremains will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Masonic 43 Section of Sheridan Municipal cemetery with officers of the Masonic Lodge officiating.Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Namtvedt was born March 9, 1924, in Groton, S.D., to Cornelius and Margit (Hjelle) Namtvedt. The family moved to Hettinger, N.D., then to Buffalo, where he graduated from Johnson County High School in 1942. He served with the 3rd Army during World War II and was a decorated veteran. Elizabeth A. Yasulevicz in 1946 in Hardin, Mont. They moved to Laramie, where he attended the University of Wyoming, then moved to Sheridan. They owned a motel here, and Mr. Namtvedt worked at the VA Medical Center until he retired. He enjoyed boating, fishing, big-game hunting and traveling. He was a life member of Masonic Lodge 43, Scottish Rite and Kalif Temple, American Legion, Eagles Lodge and a life member of Elks Lodge 520. A brother, Milo, preceded him in death. Survivors include three daughters, Carol J. Potter of Chantilly, Va., Elizabeth A. Henn of Atlantic, Iowa, and Margaret H. Lenz of Sheridan; and four grandchildren. Dennis Mines
Dennis D. Mines, 53, of Sheridan died Friday, Dec. 7, 2001, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County of natural causes. Vigil services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Kane Funeral Home with Monsignor Eugene Sullivan officiating. He was born in Mitchell, S.D., April 14, 1948, to James and Florence (Kott) Mines. He moved to Farson in 1957 and attended public school there. He was graduated from high school in 1966 and attended Western Wyoming Community College and Weber State College. He served two years with the U.S. Army in Vietnam, then attended the University of Wyoming, where he graduated in 1972 with a bachelor’s degree in industrial arts. While serving in Vietnam, he received numerous awards and decorations including a Bronze Star. He married
Jody Roberts, and they had two children. He later married
Juanita Russell Aug. 6, 1999, in Ouray, Colo. They moved to Sheridan from Riverton. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. Survivors include his wife of Sheridan; a daughter, Jana of Rochester, Minn.; a son, Scott of Sheridan; two stepsons, Aaron and Matt Russell of Riverton; his parents of Sun City, Ariz.; four brothers, Gary of Rock Springs and Rod, Don and Steve, all of Farson; and two sisters, Carol Diehl of Bullhead City, Ariz., and Marilyn Mathern of Great Falls, Mont. Randy Will
BUFFALO — Randy Charles Will, 45, of Buffalo died Friday, Dec. 7, 2001. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Adams Funeral Home Chapel in Buffalo with Pastor John Orwig of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church officiating. A private family interment will follow. Alma Morrow
Former Sheridan resident Alma Olive (Ellis) Morrow, 87, died Friday, Dec. 7, 2001, of natural causes at her home in Casper. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Bustard’s Funeral Home in Casper with Fr. Royce Brown of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church officiating. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Monday in Sheridan. Mrs. Morrow was born Nov. 19, 1914, in Lucerne. She graduated high school in Belfry, Mont., where she was on one of that state’s first basketball teams. She attended beauty college in Billings and worked as a beautician for a time in Sheridan. She married
Worth Morrow in Thermopolis May 13, 1941. She was preceded in death by her husband and two brothers, Homer and Earl Ellis. Survivors include a son, Wade, and two granddaughters. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Parry Schriver
Sheridan native Parry Schriver, 85, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, at his home in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., from complications of chronic lung disease. Private family services have been held. Mr. Schriver was the son of Elmer and Edna Schriver, who opened and operated the P.O. News for more than 50 years. He was a 1934 graduate of Sheridan High School, and completed his education at Kemper Military Academy and Oregon State University. He joined the Federal Aviation Administration, where he spent 35 years before retiring in 1975 in Los Angeles as assistant director of Air Traffic Control for the Western Region. During his retirement, he and his wife spent their summers at Tepee and Eatons’ Dude Ranch. Survivors include his wife, Pat; two daughters, Tricia Crilly of Cheyenne and Catherine McGowan of Marietta, Ga.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
William Cleary
William D. Cleary, 79, of Buffalo died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2001, at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Private funeral services will be held by his family. He had resided in Buffalo since 1985.
Nellie James
Sheridan County native Nellie E. James, 80, of Burbank, Calif., died Monday, Dec. 3, 2001, in a Burbank hospital. Viewing will be 9 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Monday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Monday in Dayton cemetery with Scott Rauscher and Loren Coleman officiating. Mrs. James was born Nov. 17, 1921, in Sheridan County to Robert and Edith (Carter) Strait. She was a graduate of Sheridan High School. She moved to California, living in the Los Angeles area 50 years and moving to Burbank for the last 20. She was a sheet metal worker for United Airlines for 15 years. Survivors include a son, L. Paul James Jr. of Story; a daughter, Clara S. Wyatt of Sun Valley, Calif.; and one grandson.
Chester Davey
Chester L. Davey, 79, of Sheridan died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2001, in the Sheridan VA Medical Center. Cremation has taken place, and family services will be this summer with Mr. Davey’s ashes to be spread in the Big Horn Mountains. Mr. Davey was born April 30, 1922, in Richmond, Va., to Wilber and Etta Davey. The family moved to Wyoming when he was 4 years old. He worked in the Acme Mines, the Civilian Conservation Corps camps and was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in the Pacific during World War II. He was a carpenter. Survivors include three sons, Gary of Centerville, Ga., Chet of Thornton, Colo., and Eugene of Ranchester; five daughters, Diane Schilling of Gillette, Karen Moyes of Sheridan, Donna Roberts of Cheyenne, Tina Sanchez of Las Vegas, N.M., and Adriane Arizona of Parkman; a sister, Gwen Randell of Sheridan; a brother, Howard “Dewey” Davey of Denver; 15 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Imogene Mock
Imogene Mock, 82, of Sheridan died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001, at Westview Health Care Center. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church with the Revs. David Duprey and Ray Clark co-officiating. Kane Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Mrs. Mock was born Dec. 31, 1918, in Sheridan to Ray and Ella (Guibault) Vest. She was a graduate of Sheridan High School. She married
Paul Mock Sept. 28, 1940, at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. She was a homemaker and volunteered at the Sheridan VA Medical Center. She was a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, the Daughters of the King, St. Margaret’s, St. Hilda’s and the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed spending time at the family’s cabin in the mountains, baking with her friends and playing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, in 1992, and by a sister, Bobs Erickson. Survivors include three daughters, Vesta Gale and Nancy Steel, both of Sheridan, and Doti Mock of San Diego; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. Donald Carroll
Sheridan native Donald Clifford Carroll, 64, died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2001, in Gunnison, Colo. A celebration of his life was Nov. 26 at the Gunnison Community Church. Mr. Carroll was born Dec. 7, 1936, to Clifford and Genet Carroll of Sheridan. He was a graduate of Sheridan High School and Colorado State University, where he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity and the college ski team. He married
Janet Lee Holcomb of Sheridan Jan. 19, 1963. They moved to Gunnison in 1965, where they owned and operated Carroll’s Sporting Goods. He had been in real estate since 1988. Survivors include his wife of Gunnison; two sons, Todd of Crested Butte, Colo., and Torrey of Reno, Nev.; his mother; a brother, Robert B. Carroll of Sheridan; a sister, Francey Osgard of Yorba Linda, Calif.; and three grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Western State College Mountain Search and Rescue Team in Gunnison, or to Hospice.
Ida Belus
Ida L. Belus, 91, of Sheridan died Friday, Nov. 30, 2001, in Sheridan Manor. No services are planned. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Belus was born July 12, 1910, in Mandan, N.D., to Alfred and Augusta (Linden) Johnson. She attended schools in Mandan. She married
Paul “Slim” Belus June 6, 1949, in Sheridan. They ranched east of Sheridan until 1986, when they retired and moved into Sheridan. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1999, and by a brother, Leonard, and three sisters, Ruth, Celia and Clara. Survivors include two sisters, Emma Lenning and Adla Olsen.
Hazel McKennan
Former Sheridan resident Hazel McKennan, 91, of Auburn, Wash., died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001, in Auburn, according to her son Don of Sheridan. Cremation has taken place. No services are planned. She was born Nov. 13, 1910, in Moorcroft to I.M. and Ollie Maud Martin. The family ranched in the Upton area, and Mrs. McKennan lived in Sheridan for many years before moving to Washington. Besides her son, survivors include two daughters, Mary Lou Harrison and Wilma Parker, both of Auburn; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Zelma Schaubel
Former Sheridan County resident Zelma L. Schaubel, 93, of Hardin, Mont., died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001, at Big Horn County Memorial Nursing Home. Cremation has taken place, and memorial services will be 10 a.m. Friday in Bullis Funeral Chapel. Interment will be in Sheridan Municipal cemetery. Mrs. Schaubel was born Oct. 6, 1908, to Joshua E. and Ethaulean Eggert at her grandparents’ home in Sheridan. She married
Thomas L. “Fate” Hamilton. She later married
Gus Schaubel, and they ranched at Parkman for many years before retiring to Sheridan. She moved to Hardin in 1970 after Mr. Schaubel’s death. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Sandy, and daughter, Virginia. Survivors include two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.
Frank Sobotka
Frank R. Sobotka, 76, of Sheridan died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, in the Big Horn Mountains in Johnson County of natural causes. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Pastor William Heine officiating. Kane Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Sobotka was born March 4, 1925, to Frank and Rose (Stopkal) Sobotka. He attended high school, became a master welder at 17 and enlisted in the U.S. Army in June 1943. He served with Gen. Patton’s division as a welder in Normandy, northern France, Ardennes, the Rhineland and Central Europe until his discharge in 1945. He married
Alfreda Warne in June 1948 in Sheridan. She died in 1977. He married
Sharon Peterson in August 1980. Mr. Sobotka worked as a nursing assistant for 36 years, retiring from the Sheridan VA Medical Center. He enjoyed fishing, fly-tying, hunting, metal sculpturing and spending time with his grandchildren. In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Louise Buchanan. Survivors include his wife, Sharon of Sheridan; two sons, David of Fort Collins, Colo., and Randy of Sheridan; a daughter, Karen Kendrick of Sheridan; three stepdaughters, Juli McDougall and Susan Roller, both of Sheridan, and Carmen Goodman of Casper; three sisters, Marjorie Lundy, Nancy Cook and Barbara DeRusha; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Richard Hall
Former Sheridan resident Richard Grayson Hall, 85, died Friday, Nov. 30, 2001, at his home in Wheatland. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Covenant Lutheran Church in Wheatland with Pastor Paul Ward officiating. Interment will be in Wheatland cemetery. Visitation is until 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until noon Tuesday at Platte Funeral Chapel of Wheatland. Mr. Hall was born Aug. 2, 1916, in Conova, S.D., to Robert and Mary Elizabeth (Griffin) Hall. He grew up and was educated in Hill City, S.D., and graduated from Hill City High School. He graduated from Black Hills State Teachers College in Spearfish, S.D., and taught and coached in South Dakota for several years. He married
Helen Marie Steed July 24, 1941, in Hayti, S.D. He worked for Union Pacific Railroad during World War II. He moved to Sheridan in 1948 and was a teacher and administrator for the school district until 1983, when he retired. During those years, he received a master’s degree in school administration from the University of Wyoming. He was active in boards and organizations in Sheridan including the Kiwanis Club and Trinity Lutheran Church. He moved to Wheatland after retirement. His wife died in 1985. He married
Connie Matthews July 3, 1988, in Denver. She died in 2000. In addition to his wives, a brother and sister preceded him in death. Survivors include two daughters, Deanna Trouchon of Wheatland and Gloria Moore of Casper; a son, Alan of Dallas; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
