Elsie J. Smith

Elsie J. Smith, 98, of Sheridan died Saturday, Sept. 20, 2003, in Westview Health Care Center. Cremation has taken place. Inurnment will be in Maple Park cemetery in Springfield, Mo. Kane Funeral Home is handling local arrangements. Mrs. Smith was born March 27, 1907, in Springfield to Jesse and Mary (Cavender) Smith. She traveled throughout Europe and was able to see Queen Elizabeth II's coronation while in London. She lived in Washington, D.C., 60 years before moving to Sheridan to be close to her family. She taught school for seven years then worked for the state department until retirement. She loved children, her family and traveling to visit friends on the East Coast. She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Lenzner. Survivors, all of Sheridan, include her sister, June Lobdell; a niece, Donna Kuehne; a great-niece, Jenny Loomis; and several great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. Memorials may be made to the recipient of the donor's choice in care of Kay Roush, First Federal Bank, P.O. Box 6007, Sheridan, WY 82801.

Jerry M. Robertson

Jerry M. Robertson, 69, of Sheridan died Monday, Sept. 22, 2003, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Funeral services will be next week in Phoenix, Ariz., with dates and times to be announced. Burial will be in the Greenwood cemetery in Phoenix. Kane Funeral Home is handling local arrangements.

Mike H. Juroshek

Sheridan County native Mike H. Juroshek, 84, of McCleary, Wash., died Wednesday, March 31, 2004, in Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, Wash. A memorial service will be today at Grace Community Church in Elma, Wash. A reception will follow the service. Arrangements are with Whiteside Family Mortuary in Elma. Mr. Juroshek was born Nov. 25, 1919, in Acme to Joe and Anna Juroshek. He lived in Acme until he joined the U.S. Air Force just after Pearl Harbor. He served for nearly four years, including three years in the South Pacific. He was a crew chief on the B-25 bomber. Mr. Juroshek returned to Wyoming after the service. He married Evelyn L. Wood in 1946. They traveled in construction work for 45 years, finally settling in Billings. They moved to Washington in spring 1999 to be near their daughter and her family. Mr. Juroshek enjoyed art, working in oil, watercolor and charcoal. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Judi Harper of Elma; and two grandchildren. Wilbur Huggins

Wilbur Huggins, 89, of Sheridan died Friday, April 2, 2004, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Kane Funeral Home with Patty Bard officiating.

Margaret P. Marcheso

Sheridan County native Margaret Platt Marcheso, 74, of Tustin, Calif., died Wednesday, March 17, 2004, at her residence, according to family and friends. No services are planned. Mrs. Marcheso was born June 6, 1929, in Dietz to James and Margaret (Allan) Platt. She grew up in Dayton and was a graduate of Dayton High School. She received business education in Denver. She was a retired employee of the U.S. Postal Service in Tustin. Survivors include a daughter, Margaret “Marti” Gowdy of Tustin; a son, Jerry of Tustin; a brother, Joseph J. Platt of Casper; and seven grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Dayton Rescue, P.O. Box 396, Dayton, WY 82836, or to Hospice in care of St. Joseph's Home Health System, 1845 W. Orangewood Ave., Suite 100A, Tustin, CA 92868.

Ruby Steiner Wright

BUFFALO — Ruby Steiner Wright, 80, of Buffalo died Wednesday, March 31, 2004, in Johnson County Health Care Center. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday in Adams Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Karin Stork-Witson officiating. Visitation will be 1-10 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in Willow Grove cemetery with graveside rites. Memorials may be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary in care of Adams Funeral Home.

Edna Marie Meline

Edna Marie Meline, 95, died Monday, March 29, 2004, in Sheridan Manor. Memorial services will be later in Webster City, Iowa. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Meline was born Aug. 24, 1908, on the family farm near Verona, N.D., to Ingverd and Anna (Lippert) Arenkiel. She married Theodore W. Meline Aug. 7, 1929, at Oakes, N.D. They moved to Eagle Grove, Iowa, and, in 1939, to Webster City. Mrs. Meline worked at the Hahne Printing Co. for 24 years, retiring in 1972. She was a longtime member of First Congregational Church United Church of Christ, church circles and the Senior Citizens Center in Webster City. She was preceded in death by her husband, in 1997, and by 11 brothers and sisters. Survivors include two daughters, Joan McClain of Naples, Fla., and Charlotte Frary of Monroe, Mich.; a son, Theodore R. of Sheridan; five grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Louis Galloway

Louis Galloway, 70, of Sheridan died Tuesday, March 30, 2004, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday in the Sheridan Wesleyan Church with Pastor Chuck Lucas officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Masonic cemetery. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mr. Galloway was born Jan. 11, 1934, in Wheatland to Reubin Oliver and Mary (Sturdivent) Galloway. He attended schools in Sheridan and was a 1952 graduate of Sheridan High School. He worked briefly for the state of Wyoming before becoming an agent with Farm Bureau Insurance, where he was employed for 35 years. He retired as a claims adjuster in 1994. He spent most of his life in the Story/Sheridan area. After retiring from Farm Bureau, he spent four summers in the Rapid Creek Cattle Allotment as rider for the Connell and Gerber ranches. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and packing in the Big Horn Mountains. He was a member of Sheridan Wesleyan Church, the Wyoming Historical Society, Sheridan Masonic Lodge No. 8, Alcoholics Anonymous and the National Rifle Association. Survivors include his wife, Carolyn; three sons, Louis Edward, Chris and Joe; and eight grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Wesleyan Church Building Fund or a charity of the donor's choice.

Katherine N. Zullig

Sheridan native Katherine N. Zullig, 91, of Pueblo, Colo., died Tuesday, March 30, 2004, in Pueblo. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Saturday in the Masonic Circle of Sheridan Municipal cemetery with Bishop Robert Zuercher officiating. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Zullig was born Aug. 15, 1912, in Sheridan to Gilbert K. and Ada E. (Norton) Halley. She grew up and attended schools in Sheridan and was a graduate of Sheridan High School. She graduated from Missouri State Teacher's College. She married Raymond Zullig in 1941. She worked as a legal secretary until her marriage, then became a full-time homemaker. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She enjoyed music and played the organ for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband. Survivors include a daughter, Carol Zuercher of Rye, Colo.; a son, Alan of Renton, Wash.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Georgia Ann Dooley

Sheridan native Georgia Ann Dooley, 85, of California died Saturday, June 5, 2004, in Mountain View Nursing Home in Sylmar, Calif. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday in the Adams Funeral Home Chapel in Buffalo with the Rev. Tom Saur officiating. Burial will be in Willow Grove cemetery. Visiting hours will be 1-9 p.m. Sunday and 8-9:30 a.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel. Mrs. Dooley was born June 7, 1918, in Sheridan to George and Sylvia Grace. She was a 1936 graduate of Sheridan High School. She received nursing training in Sheridan and did her practicum for nursing at the VA Hospital here. She married Elbert Dooley July 3, 1940, in Sheridan. They lived in Sheridan and on a homestead east of the city. Mrs. Dooley worked several years for the Sheridan and VA hospitals. She also worked for Johnson County Hospital from 1960-87, when she retired. Mr. Dooley died in November 1989. Mrs. Dooley lived in Buffalo until 2003, when she moved to California to be near her daughter. She enjoyed painting and spending time with family and friends. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister. Survivors include two sons, Rick of Leiter and Larry of Modesto, Calif.; a daughter, Cheryl Hurd of Lancaster, Calif.; two brothers, George Grace of Buffalo and Don Grace of Sheridan; two sisters, Eunice Sanders of Denver and Beverly Todd of Arizona; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Buffalo Senior Center in care of Adams Funeral Home.

Olaf R. `Ole' Lawson

Olaf R. “Ole” Lawson Jr., 64, of Gillette died Thursday, June 10, 2004, at his residence. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday in New Life Wesleyan Church in Gillette with Hospice Chaplain Ralph Reed officiating. Visiting hours will be 3-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home in Gillette. Mr. Lawson was born May 18, 1940, to Olaf and Mary Jane (Shaw) Lawson Sr. in Grafton, W.Va. He grew up in Grafton and graduated from high school there in 1958. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in September 1958 as a first airman. He was honorably discharged in 1961, and he and his family moved to Sheridan. He managed the XL Hotel for 10 years. He started Ole's Pizza in Sheridan in 1973. He opened an Ole's Pizza in Gillette in 1975 and sold the business in 2004. He enjoyed traveling to new places and spending time on the East Coast, Keyhole Reservoir and Deadwood, S.D. He was preceded in death by an infant brother. Survivors include his wife, Karen; three sons, Tim of Rockport, Maine, Mike of Mesa, Ariz., and Bryan of Gillette; two daughters, Lori Hink of Sheridan and Amber Martin of Maryville, Mo.; a brother, David of Sheridan; a sister, Susan Miller of Columbus, Ohio; and six grandchildren. A memorial has been established to benefit the Hospice of Campbell County Memorial Hospital.

Eileen M. Holman

Eileen Marie Holman, 59, of Peoria, Ill., died Wednesday, June 9, 2004, in the OSF St. Francis Medical Center. She was sister of Susan Cannon of Big Horn. A funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Monday in St. Bernard Catholic Church with the Rev. James Pallardy officiating. Visiting will be at the church one hour before the services. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery in West Peoria. Arrangements are with Wright & Salmon Mortuary Inc. Mrs. Holman was born May 14, 1945, in Peoria to Edward and Lillian Mason Clinch. She was a graduate of the Academy of Our Lady and a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church. Survivors include two sons, Ric Hudnall and Randy Holman, both of Peoria; three daughters, Debbie Campen, Cheryl Parsons and Nicole Snow, all of Peoria; two brothers, Mike Clinch of Glasford, Ill., and Bernie Clinch of Los Angeles; four half sisters, Sue Fulton and Carol Holford, both of Peoria, Charlie Daugherty of Hanna City, Ill., and Janey Rhoades of Pekin, Ill. Memorials may be made to Christmas in April.

Molly Evans

Molly Evans, 95, of Buffalo died Wednesday, June 9, 2004, in Johnson County Health Care Center. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Willow Grove cemetery with the Rev. Dick Edgerton officiating. Memorials may be made to the Willow Grove cemetery Water System, Johnson County Library or Shriner's Burn Center in Salt Lake City in care of the funeral home.

Alta P. Sturgeon

Alta P. Sturgeon, 92, of Sheridan died Sunday, June 6, 2004, in Sheridan Manor. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Rev. Kevin Jones officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Elks cemetery. Mrs. Sturgeon was born Nov. 27, 1911, in Anadarko, Okla., to William and Nellie Boys. She grew up and graduated from high school in Creston, Iowa. She married John Sturgeon April 16, 1933, in Creston. They moved to Worland in 1947, then to Sheridan in 1949. Mrs. Sturgeon was a bookkeeper for Pioneer Lumber Co. for several years. She helped start the Sheridan Senior Center and was a volunteer there for many years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and the church circles. She was an avid bridge player. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1996. Survivors include a son, Sam of Sun City West, Ariz.; a brother, M.C. Boys of Tacoma, Wash.; and a sister, Mary Kepner of Leo's Summit, Mo. Memorials may be made to the Sheridan Senior Center Mini-Bus program, 211 Smith St., Sheridan, WY 82801.

James Mulholland

James “Scotty” Mulholland, 69, of Sheridan died Sunday, June 6, 2004, in Sheridan Manor. At his request, cremation has taken place, and no services are planned. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Mulholland was born April 12, 1935, in Aberdeen, Scotland, to Charles and Jane (Moles) Mulholland. He served in the British army before immigrating to the United States in 1963. He worked on various ranches around Ingomar, Mont., then went to work for Decker Coal Co. in 1979. He retired in 2000. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church, Eagles and Kalif Shrine. He enjoyed fishing. Survivors include nieces and nephews in Scotland.

Bertha Bryan

Former Sheridan resident Bertha Heberlein “Bea” Bryan, 89, died Thursday, June 3, 2004, at Victorian Cottage Adult Family Home in Coupeville, Wash. Cremation has taken place, and a memorial service will be 2 p.m. Thursday in the San de Fuca Chapel. A private inurnment by the family is planned at a later date. Arrangements are with Burley Funeral Chapel in Oak Harbor, Wash. Mrs. Bryan was born Nov. 22, 1914, in Streeter, N.D., to Gottlieb and Christina (Job) Mueller. She received her education in North Dakota and Sheridan, where she graduated as a registered nurse. She took postgraduate courses in psychiatry, pediatrics, intensive care and coronary care in Wyoming and later in Colorado and Seattle. She worked for 43 years in all fields of nursing including six years during World War II in the VA hospital in Lexington, Ky. She returned to Seattle and public health duty after the war. She married Frederick “Freddy” Heberlein in 1961 in Seattle. They traveled throughout the United States, Japan, Mexico and Canada. Mr. Heberlein died in November 1994. She married William T. “Bill” Bryan in June 1996 in Coupeville, where he was pastor of Coupeville Community Bible Church. Survivors include her husband of Coupeville; two sisters, Emma Milford of Montgomery Village, Md., and Esther L. McWilliams of Sheridan; and a brother, Andy Mueller of Redway, Calif. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Voletta J. Knapp

Voletta Jeanne Knapp, 68, of Casper died Thursday, June 3, in the Hospice Home in Casper. A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Harold Jarred Park in Kaycee with the Rev. Dana Loche officiating. A graveside service for family and close friends will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Nottingham family plot in Mount Hope cemetery in Big Horn with the Rev. Doug Goodwin officiating. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Central Wyoming Hospice, 319 S. Wilson St., Casper, WY 82601.

Margaret L. Camacho

Margaret L. “Marti” Camacho, 50, of Sheridan died Sunday, May 30, 2004, at her residence. At her request, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be 7 p.m. Wednesday at First Christian Church with the Rev. Doug Goodwin officiating. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Ms. Camacho was born Feb. 1, 1954, in Sheridan to Harold Ira and Mary Josephine (Wall) Adsit. The family moved to California when she was a child, and she grew up and attended schools there. She worked as a waitress. She was a member of First Christian Church in Sheridan and enjoyed ceramics, flowers and butterflies. She collected anything associated with butterflies. She also enjoyed working with Rehabilitation Enterprises of North Eastern Wyoming. Survivors include a son, Alex VanDenkolk II of Flagstaff, Ariz.; two daughters, Kim Dorough of Torrance, Calif., and Rosie Cortez of Sheridan; three brothers, Dan Adsit of Sheridan, Tom Adsit of Milwaukee and Mike Adsit of Spokane, Wash.; a sister, Martha Jenkins; and five grandchildren. Memorials may be made to RENEW or to the American Cancer Society in care of Karen Green, First Interstate Bank, P.O. Box 2007, Sheridan, WY 82801.

Glenn Harrod

Glenn Harrod, 94, of Sheridan died Wednesday, June 2, 2004, in Westview Health Care Center. Viewing will be 1-5 p.m. Sunday at Kane Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday in the Mount Pisgah cemetery Chapel in Gillette with the Rev. Douglas Goodwin officiating. Mr. Harrod was born March 16, 1910 in Ayr, Neb., to Joseph and Alice (Varah) Harrod. He married Cynthia M. Hemenway May 11, 1935, in Sheridan. They ranched in the Weston area north of Gillette for more than 40 years before retiring to Sheridan. Mr. Harrod was preceded in death by his wife. Survivors include two daughters, Nomalee Materi of Upton and Connie Cooper of Lakewood, Colo.; two sons, Joe of Worland and Vic of Weston; a brother, LaVern of Gillette; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Rocky Point Community Center in care of Joe Harrod, 2159 Papago Drive, Sheridan, WY 82801.

Tom Roger Bohnsack

Former Sheridan resident Tom Roger Bohnsack, 63, of Denver died Saturday, May 29, 2004, in Denver after a battle with cancer. At his request, no services will be held. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mr. Bohnsack was born Jan. 25, 1941, in Sheridan to Chancy and Opal (Sunderland) Bohnsack. He joined the Army in 1963; he was honorably discharged in 1965. He worked as a page for Sen. Milward Simpson and as a radio announcer for KWYO radio station. He enjoyed photography. He moved to Denver in the early 1970s. He was preceded in death by a brother, Norman. Survivors include his twin brother, Jerry of Courtney, N.D.; a brother, Larry of Oregon; and a sister, Joyce Bohnsack of California. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of Karen Green, First Interstate Bank, P.O. Box 2007, Sheridan, WY 82801.

Elton R. Morris

Elton R. Morris, 54, died Sunday, May 30, 2004, near his home on Pompey Creek Road south of Sheridan as the result of an accident. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Sheridan Municipal cemetery. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Morris was born Nov. 19, 1949, in Sheridan to Ebben and Emily (Treichel) Morris. He grew up and graduated from high school in Sheridan and attended the University of Wyoming. He served in the U.S. Navy. He was a lifelong resident of Sheridan County. He enjoyed spending time in the mountains, hunting and being with his daughters and friends. He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Gary. Survivors include three daughters, Giom of Bennington, Vt., Hope Wilson of Cheyenne and Katherine Morris of Sheridan; his mother, of Wichita, Kan.; a brother, Breezy of Story; three sisters, Justine Hart and Lorelei Morris, both of Sheridan, and Willa Gale of Wichita; and one grandson. Memorials may be made to the Elton Morris Daughter's Educational Fund in care of Citco Credit Union, 29 N. Conner St., Sheridan, WY 82801.

Verne Bradbury

BUFFALO — Verne Bradbury, 70, of Buffalo died Tuesday, June 1, 2004, in the Johnson County Health Care Center. Private family services will be at a later time. Arrangements are with the Adams Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the St. Francis Animal Shelter in care of the funeral home.

William G. Brown

William Glen Brown, 76, of Sheridan died Wednesday, June 2, 2004, in the Sheridan VA Medical Center. At his request, cremation has taken place, and no services are planned. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Brown was born May 7, 1928, in Antioch, Neb., to William R. and Rebecca (Johnson) Brown. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a police officer for the city of Scottsbluff, Neb. Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

Mary Carbone

Mary Carbone, 90, of Sheridan died Monday, May 31, 2004, in Sheridan Manor. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Kane Funeral Home with the Rev. Thomas Ogg officiating. Mrs. Carbone was born Jan. 19, 1914, in Carneyville to Frank and Rose (Montegna) Carbone. She attended Holy Name School and was a 1934 graduate of Sheridan High School. She won the Wyoming state violin competition in 1930 and attended the Conservative of Music/Violin and Voice in S Cecilia Roma. She graduated from the Conservative in 1935 and toured with the Metropolitan Opera in the New York area. She lived in Italy, New York City, Santa Barbara, Calif., and Los Angeles before retiring to Sheridan. She was preceded in death by a brother, Roxy, and an infant sister. Survivors include numerous cousins. Memorials may be made to the Sheridan High School Music Department in care of Karen Green, First Interstate Bank, P.O. Box 2007, Sheridan, WY 82801.

Geoffrey D. Whipple

BUFFALO — Geoffrey Douglas Whipple, 32, of Buffalo died Monday, May 31, 2004, at his residence. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Buffalo, with the Rev. George Greer officiating. Burial will be in Willow Grove cemetery. Visitation will be 1-9 p.m. Thursday in the Adams Funeral Home Chapel. Memorials may be made to the St. Francis Animal Shelter in care of the Adams Funeral Home.
