Curtis `Bud' Warner
Curtis H. `Bud' Warner, 80, of Big Horn died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2004, while recovering from surgery at St. Vincent's Hospital in Billings. Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Kane Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Derryberry officiating. Mr. Warner was born Nov. 8, 1923, in Boulder, Colo., to Faye Haworth and John C. Warner. He was a 1942 graduate of Boulder High School and joined the Marines in December 1943. He served in an amphibious assault unit in the South Pacific until March 1946. He married
Patricia Jane Nelson on June 22, 1946. They moved to Sheridan County in 1956 and settled in Big Horn in 1957. Mr. Warner owned and operated Sheridan Frame and Axle until his retirement. He loved the Big Horn Mountains, was an avid fisherman and hunter and enjoyed bowling and playing cards. He was a charter member member of the Big Horn Lions Club. He was also a volunteer fireman in Big Horn from 1958-80 and served on the Sheridan County Fire Board from 1970-98. He was preceded in death by a brother, James, and a sister, Myrtle Tisone. Survivors include his wife; a son, Kenneth of Seattle; two daughters, Bonnie Oppenheimer of Tahoe City, Calif., and Cindy Phillip of Riverton; and a brother, John of Boulder. Norma Jean Hensley
Norma Jean Hensley, 80, of Sheridan died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2004, in Westview Health Care Center. Viewing is 4-8 p.m. today at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. Peter's Episcopal Church with the Revs. David Duprey and Kevin Jones officiating. Mrs. Hensley was born Jan. 8, 1924, in Aurora, Ill., to Arthur and Mildred (Clark) Runge. The family later moved to Sheridan. She was a 1941 graduate of Sheridan High School. She worked for Wortham Machinery for a few years. She married
Jess Hensley June 13, 1948, in Sheridan. She enjoyed golf, bowling, gardening and growing flowers and was an avid reader. She also enjoyed spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by a son, Dale, and a brother, Jack. Survivors include her husband of Sheridan; a son, Scott, of Phoenix; two daughters, Cheri Moon of Sundance and Mary Mentock of Sheridan; a brother, Dick Runge of McPherson, Kan.; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Douglas H. Olver
Douglas H. Olver, 69, of Sheridan died Monday, Nov. 1, 2004, in Sheridan VA Medical Center. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Friday in the Sheridan VAMC Chapel with the Rev. Arden Haeffner officiating. Inurnment of cremains will be in Sheridan Municipal cemetery. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Olver was born July 27, 1935, in Clearmont to Harry and Francis (Vannoy) Olver. He grew up and graduated from high school in Clearmont. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served from the Mediterranean to Southeast Asia, including three years on submarines. He retired from the Navy after 20 years and worked at the Sheridan VAMC until 1997, when he retired. He married
Ines C. Franklin on June 10, 1959, in Sheridan. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, collecting antique tools and woodworking. He was an avid Denver Broncos fan. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and taking his grandsons fishing. He was preceded in death by a brother, Alfred. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Steven and Gregory, both of Sheridan; three daughters, Tamara Tarver and Nicki Olver, both of Sheridan, and Kelly Camino of White Eagle, Ore.; three brothers, Benjamin of DeBary, Fla., Robert of Buffalo and Larry of Ridgecrest, Calif.; four sisters, Katherine Brantz of Cody, Geri Usher of Gastonia, N.C., Carla Ash of Sheridan and Cathy Reed of Banner; four grandsons; and one great-granddaughter. Former Sheridan resident Charlene Slagle, 81, of Lander died Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004, in Lander Valley Medical Center. Cremation has taken place, and graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Sheridan Municipal cemetery with the Rev. Canon Ray Clark officiating. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Miss Slagle was born April 1, 1923, in Sheridan to Charles and Lady (Leverette) Slagle. Survivors include a sister, Rosalie Carroll of Sheridan.

Robert J. Spicer
Robert J. Spicer, 71, of Ranchester died Saturday, Oct. 30, 2004, at Sheridan VA Medical Center. At his request, cremation has taken place, and a private family graveside service is planned in Sheridan Municipal cemetery. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Spicer was born April 2, 1933, in Sheridan to Otis and Anne D. (Wallach) Spicer. He grew up and attended Sheridan schools graduating from Sheridan High School. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Army and served in Korea during the Korean War. He returned to Sheridan after service and worked at various jobs before being employed at the Sheridan VAMC in housekeeping. He retired from the VA after 20 years. He enjoyed making model planes and building and flying remote-controlled planes. He was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church and Eagles' Lodge 186 in Sheridan. He was preceded in death by a son. Survivors include his mother, Anne D. Aksamit of Sheridan; a son, Bill of Moses Lake, Wash.; and two grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Holy Name Catholic Church, 9 S. Raymond D. Campbell
Raymond D. Campbell, 80, of Sheridan died Saturday, Nov. 6, 2004, at his residence. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Don Derryberry officiating. Burial will be in the Elks Section of Sheridan Municipal cemetery. Mr. Campbell was born July 8, 1924, in Arvada to Douglas M. and Mabel (Fillmore) Campbell. He grew up and attended schools in Sheridan and was a 1943 graduate of Sheridan High School. He joined the Army for three years, serving in the European Theater in Normandy, northern France, Ardennes, the Rhineland and the Battle of the Bulge. He returned to Sheridan after the service and worked for the post office from 1946 until 1984, when he retired. He married
Belva Meinzer on June 13, 1954, in Sheridan. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and the church's Men's Group. He was a 55-year member of American Legion Post 7, a member of Sheridan Lodge 8 A.F. & A.M. and Royal Arch Masons Chapter 7, a 53-year member of Sheridan Council 3, Knights Templar, Demolay Commandery 6 and a life member of Sheridan Elks Lodge 520. He was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time in the mountains, travel and being with family and friends. He was preceded in death by a son, a granddaughter, a brother and a sister. Survivors include his wife; a son, Gary W. of Stafford, Va.; two sisters, Ann Mikkelson of Portland, Ore., and Bonnie Madden of Pensacola, Fla.; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Katherine M. David
Katherine M. David, 98, of Sheridan died Friday, Nov. 5, 2004, in Sheridan Manor. Funeral services will be 9 a.m. Wednesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church with the Rev. William Heine officiating. Burial will be in Mountain View cemetery in Livingston, Mont. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. David was born Sept. 2, 1906, in Livingston to Andrew and Martha (Bronzlow) Petersen. She grew up and attended grade school in Springdale, Mont., and graduated from high school in Livingston. She attended normal school in Billings and Dillon, Mont. She taught in rural schools around Livingston and Big Timber, Mont. She married
Henry James David April 18, 1935, at the J.N. Ranch at Springdale. They moved to Gold Creek and Ogden Mountain, where Mr. David mined gold. They moved to Livingston in 1939, and Mr. David worked in a blacksmith shop. They moved to Sheridan in 1944. Mrs. David was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and the church sewing circle. She enjoyed making quilts. She also belonged to AARP. She enjoyed playing cards and bingo, gardening, travel, the mountains and spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1980 and by three brothers and one sister. Survivors include two sons, Jim of Sheridan and Vernon of Tucson, Ariz.; a daughter, Marge Lauters of Casper; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Altha B. Strother
BUFFALO — Former Buffalo resident Altha B. Strother, 99, of Cheyenne, died Saturday, Oct. 30, 2004, in Cheyenne. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday in the Adams Funeral Home Chapel in Buffalo with the Rev. Su Debree officiating. Visitation will be 1-9 p.m. Sunday and 8-9:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Willow Grove cemetery with graveside services. Gerald Lee Brown Jr.
Gerald Lee Brown Jr., also known as “Jerry” or “Poncho,” 33, of Yuma, Ariz., died Sunday, Nov. 7, 2004, in Yuma. He was father of Jace and Gerald Lee Brown III, both of Sheridan. Arrangements are with Sunset Vista Funeral Home of Yuma. Mr. Brown was born Nov. 8, 1970. He worked for Far West Water and Sewer and belonged to American Legion, Quechan Post 802, of Winterhaven, Calif. Additional survivors include a daughter, Carmen Jeanette; his father, Gerald Lee Brown Sr., and stepmother, Te Brown, of Yuma; five sisters, Cindy Pyne and Gayelee Reynolds, both of California, Katie Dance of Ohio, and Esther Brown and Bonnie Fitch, both of Michigan; a brother, Joe Brown of Michigan; and two stepsisters, Jennifer and Jessica Dreger, both of California.
Evelyn M. Weisz
Evelyn M. Weisz, 82, of Ranchester died Thursday, Nov. 11, 2004, of natural causes in Westview Health Care Center. At her request, cremation has taken place, and a memorial service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at First Congregational Church with George Tellez officiating. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Weisz was born Aug. 22, 1922, to Alexander and Cuma (Shearer) Ogilvie on the family homestead at Cohagen, Mont. She grew up and attended elementary school in Cohagen. She moved to Greeley, Colo., to attend high school and was a 1941 graduate of Greeley High School. She married
and traveled during World War II. She settled in Ranchester in 1944. She worked in nursing services at Sheridan VA Medical Center from 1963 until 1991, when she retired. She was a founding member of the Ranchester Women's Club and was active in scouting and other youth organizations. She enjoyed the outdoors, quilting and playing cards. She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. Survivors include one son, John of Sheridan; a brother, Alex Ogilvie of Sheridan; a sister, Edith Opshal of Dayton; and three grandchildren. Leon `Butch' Brown
Leon “Butch” Brown, 63, of Big Horn died Sunday, Nov. 14, 2004, in Sheridan VA Medical Center. Viewing is until 5 p.m. today at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Graveside services will be 11:45 a.m. Thursday in Mount Hope cemetery in Big Horn with the Rev. Randy Sawyer officiating. Mr. Brown was born July 29, 1941, in Philadelphia to William and Miriam (Renner) Brown. He grew up in Philadelphia and graduated from Northeast High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served on the flight deck crew of the aircraft carrier USS Bennington. He married
Bobbie McClure on July 26, 1969, in Lakewood, Calif. They later divorced. Mr. Brown worked as a production supervisor for the World Citrus West Juice Co. in Fullerton, Calif. He moved to Sheridan in 1994 and worked for airport security, drove a van for the Senior Citizens Center and was a prep cook at the Historic Sheridan Inn. He enjoyed gourmet cooking, fishing, umpiring baseball and collecting baseball memorabilia. He loved his animals and pets. Survivors include his companion, Barbara Foster; four sons, David of Sacramento, Calif., Michael of Chino, Calif., Keith of Rock Springs and Darrell Foster of Seattle; two daughters, Bobbie Lynn Brown of Chino and Diane Edwards of Rock Springs; a brother, Frank of Sheridan; a sister, Ethel Brown of Muskegon, Mich.; and a number of grandchildren. Opal Senff
Opal Senff, 94, of Sheridan died Sunday, Nov. 14, 2004, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Viewing will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Kane Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Ken Doolin officiating. Graveside committal will be in Willow Grove cemetery in Buffalo. Henry Near in September 1928 in Forsyth, Mont. He died in an accident in 1943. She married
Arthur Senff on June 7, 1947, in Sheridan. She lived on Piney Creek for 35 years until 1982, when she moved to Sheridan. She had lived at Sugarland Ridge for the last two and one-half years. Mr. Senff preceded her in death. A member of the Piney Creek Women's Club, she enjoyed cooking, gardening, crocheting and nature, especially birds, plants and the mountains. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Glen and Merton Cool; two sisters, Helen Sorenson and Ruby Johnson; and a grandson. Survivors include three daughters, Evelyn Craig and Donna Dexter, both of Sheridan, and Velma Crown of Crawford, Colo.; a son, Ray Near of Roanoke, Va.; a stepdaughter, Janie Shepard of Lander; four sisters, Garnett, Pearl, Agate and Vera; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Mabel H. Bohn
Mabel H. Bohn, 92, of Sheridan died Monday, Nov. 15, 2004, in Westview Health Care Center in Sheridan. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Sheridan Municipal cemetery with the Rev. Wilbur Holz officiating. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.
Joseph F. Faycosh
Former Sheridan resident Joseph F. Faycosh, 79, of Miles City, Mont., died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, in Holy Rosary Hospital. Cremation has taken place, and private family disposition will be later. Arrangements are with Bullis-Graves Memorial Chapel of Miles City. Mr. Faycosh was born Sept. 17, 1925, in Frederick, Colo., to Joseph and Nellie Faycosh. He grew up and attended school in Colorado, graduating from Frederick High School. He later attended Heald Engineering College in San Francisco. He served in the U.S. Navy Air Corps as a mechanic before receiving his honorable discharge. He married
Pearl Kuljis on Jan. 4, 1947, in San Francisco. They later moved to Colorado, where Mr. Faycosh worked for the postal service and the Union Pacific Railroad. They moved to Sheridan in 1970, and Mr. Faycosh was a civil engineer for Peter Kiewit and Sons Construction Co. until 1986, when he retired. The couple moved to Miles City in 2002. Mr. Faycosh enjoyed fishing, goose hunting and being with his family and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth Clark. Survivors include his wife, of Miles City; a daughter, Ana Powers of Gillette; three sons, Joe of Laramie, Gary of Florida and Jeff of Miles City; a sister, Catherine Fletcher of Colorado; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Dorothy E. Mooney
Dorothy E. Mooney, 82, of Sheridan died Friday, Nov. 12, 2004, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Memorial services were this morning at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Rev. Kevin Jones officiating. Mrs. Mooney was born March 7, 1922, in Derby, Iowa, to Elmer and Rosa (Cooley) Davis. The family moved to Wyoming in 1929 and homesteaded on Dry Fork in the Sussex area of Johnson County. They family moved to the Sheridan area in 1946 and purchased a ranch, which Mrs. Mooney operated until her death. She married
Leroy Mooney on May 10, 1947. He died in March 1987. Mrs. Mooney's interests ranged from cattle and horses to reading, painting, dolls and genealogy. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Lynn (Mooney) Hoffman; four brothers, Pearl, Marvin, Luther and Jim; and a sister, Fern. Survivors include two sons, Glenn of Sheridan and Steve of Gillette; a daughter, Jeanine Bursell of Sheridan; a sister, Elma Mooney of Sheridan; five grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. David Ronald Straight
BUFFALO — David Ronald “Ron” Straight, 67, of Buffalo died Monday, Nov. 15, 2004, in Johnson County Health Care Center. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday in the Adams Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. George Greer and Dick Edgerton officiating. Marian Rompf
Marian Rompf, 66, died Friday, Nov. 12, 2004, at her residence east of Sheridan after a long battle with cancer. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Peter's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Canon Ray Clark and the Rev. David Duprey officiating. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mrs. Rompf was born Dec. 24, 1937, in Chicago to Howard and Mae (Enders) Olson. She grew up and attended school in Chicago. She moved to the Sheridan area in 1964. She enjoyed doing community volunteer work and helped with All-American Indian Days, served on the Children's Center board and belonged to Sheridan County CattleWomen, Sheridan Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and volunteered at Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library. She was office manager for Dr. E.E. Edwards and later for Dr. Bruce Holwell's dental practice for more than 30 years. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed traveling with her lifelong companion, Bill Willey. She was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church. Survivors include Mr. Willey; a daughter, Susan Mickelson of Sheridan; a son, Michael Rompf of Arizona; two sisters, Janice Matheson and Susan Weisenberger, both of Illinois; and a granddaughter. Dorothy Emma Beutler
BUFFALO — Dorothy Emma `Dot' Beutler, 83, of Buffalo died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, in Johnson County Health Care Center. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Adams Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Nancy Brooks officiating. Visitation will be 1-9 p.m. Tuesday and 8-9:30 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel. David B. Petrie
David B. Petrie, 43, of Denver died Saturday, Oct. 9, 2004, from complications of diabetes. He is son of Dick and Karylyn Petrie and stepbrother of Kary Murray, all of Story, and stepbrother of Lori Castellano of Sheridan. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service is planned for spring in the Quiet Rest cemetery in Story. Mr. Petrie was born Dec. 28, 1960, in Sagami Hara, Japan, to Dick and Betty (Duncan) Petrie. He lived most of his life in Denver. He was preceded in death by Betty Petrie and an infant sister, Sherri Lynn. Other survivors include a sister, Lauri Ann Murrow of Marlin, Texas; and a stepbrother, Sean Castellano of Lagrangeville, N.Y.
Harold Wayne Wood
Harold Wayne Wood, also known as “Slim” and “Woody,” died Friday, Nov. 12, 2004, at Sheridan Manor after a battle with cancer. Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Peter's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Canon Ray Clark and the Rev. David Duprey officiating. Masonic graveside services and military honor guard will follow in the Masonic Section of Sheridan Municipal cemetery. A reception for friends and family will be at the Kalif Shrine.
