Jackie Sloan

ALLIANCE, Neb. - Jackie Anne Sloan, 52, of Alliance, Neb., died Friday, Sept. 15, 2006, at her home.

She was born March 18, 1954, in Rock Springs to Jack and Virginia Krause. She received her early education at Rock Springs schools.

She married John Sloan on Dec. 2, 1972, at Rock Springs and they lived in Wyoming.

Her interests included spending time with her family and was an avid animal lover who loved her three cats.

Survivors include one daughter, Kelly Sloan of Alliance; one son, John Sloan of Taylorsville, Utah; two grandsons, Aaron and Victor; three brothers, Albert Thomason and wife Mary of Nevada, Bob Thomason of Cheyenne and David Thomason of Laramie; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John; brother, Eddie Krause; and nephew, David Sloan.

A memorial graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, 2006, at High-land cemetery in Casper.

Cremation has taken place.

John Noland

BAGGS - John Richard Noland, 76, of Baggs, died Saturday, Sept. 16, 2006, at the Sandrock Ridge Care and Rehabilitation Center in Craig, Colo., after a lengthy illness.

He was born July 17, 1930, in Breeds, Ill., the son of Harlow and Mary Anna Childers Noland. He attended schools in Cuba, Ill., and Craig, Colo.

He married Bonnie Lee Allred on June 13, 1953, in Vernal, Utah. She preceded him in death on Oct. 27, 2004 in Rock Springs.

Noland worked as a linotype operator for the Empire Courier in Craig, Colo. He had also been employed at Mt. Fuel Gas Company at Powder, Wash., and also at the museum and cemetery in Savery.

Noland served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

His interests included playing cards, bowling, water skiing, war history, model trains and his grandchildren.

His survivors include one son, David Noland and wife Debbie of Rock Springs; three daughters, Brenda Updike and husband Lynn of Baggs, Susan Mann and husband Andy of Rock Springs and Terri Woodward and husband Eddie of Baggs; three brothers, Dean Noland and wife Mary of Albion, Ind., Jim Noland of Montrose, Colo., and Jerry Noland and wife Gloria of Craig; two sisters, Jean Moore and husband Rex of Sun City West, Ariz., and Mavis Hess and husband Dick of Collbran, Colo.; sisters-in-law, Shirley Noland of Bouse, Ariz., and Pat Noland of Grand Junction, Colo.; 13 grandchildren, Dustin Updike and wife Andrea, Dennis Updike and wife Chrissy, Lacy Updike, Rose Longacre and husband Mike, Kathy Marsden and husband Damien, Ben Updike, Tyler Mann, Tyson Mann, Kaylee Mann, Brandon Noland, Brent Noland, Tia Noland and Chelsea Cortez; eight great-grandchildren, Sam, Ryan, Julia, Brayden, Austin, Taylor, Sawyer and Alex; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harlow and Mary; wife, Bonnie; brothers, Bob Noland and Archie Noland; and two infant brothers, Jack and Harlow.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, 2006, at the Baggs LDS Chapel, Baggs, where friends may call from 9 a.m. until time of services. Graveside military honors and interment will take place in the Reader cemetery in Savery.

Lucinda Mongomery

GREEN RIVER - Lucinda Adeline Montgomery, 77, of 1445 Uinta Drive, Green River, died Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2006, at the Castle Rock Convalescent Center in Green River. A resident of Rock Springs for the past 32 years and former resident of Glendale, Ariz., Ms. Montgomery had been in ill health for the past two years.

She was born in Reliance on Jan. 27, 1929, the daughter of Kenneth and Olga Long Wilcox. She attended school in Reliance and Rock Springs and was a 1947 graduate of Rock Springs High School. She attended Mary Hardin Baylor College in Belton, Texas, where she received a bachelor of arts degree in English and history.

She married Donald Montgom-ery. They later divorced.

Ms. Montgomery taught elementary school in Farson and Mountain View for two years and later worked as a bookkeeper for Bestway Lumber Company, Sty-lish Stout Shop and Herbergers.

She was a member of the First Methodist Church, a bridge club in Rawlins and a neighborhood birthday club.

She was an accomplished artist whose interests included reading, arts, crafts and collecting owls.

Survivors include her nephews and nieces, Mark Wilcox and wife Mary Ann, Ken Wilcox, Janice Tracy and husband Bob, Gene Edward Miller, Janet Iokepa, Dale Montgomery and Keith Montgomery; sister-in-law, Helen Wilcox; and cousins, Mary Ellen Cox, John French and wife Norma, Lawrence French, Jim Wilcox, Amose Wilcox, Barbara Bartholomew and John Lewis.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Olga; one brother, Henry Wilcox; and numerous aunts and uncles.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22, 2006, at Vase Funeral Chapel, 154 Elk St., Rock Springs. Interment will be in the Rest Haven Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the chapel one hour prior to services.

Peggy Estes

LANDER - Norma L. Peggy Estes, 79, died Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2006, at her home in Lander after a four-year illness.

She was born July 21, 1927, in Green River, to James Albert and Gladys Casteel. She grew up in Green River.

She married George Mick Estes in 1946. They had three daughters; one died as an infant.

When her husband died in 1965, she and her two daughters moved to the Bay area in California. She worked at Treasure Island for the U.S. Navy as a civilian in data processing for 10 years before working 10 years at Southern Pacific Trans in San Francisco. She retired in 1986 and moved to Wheat Ridge, Colo. She moved to Lander in 2004.

Her interests including her family, cooking, music, sewing and making bead jewelry.

She was a member of the Episcopal Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Estes and Karen Herman and husband Don; two grandsons, Jonathan and Scott; and three great-grandchildren, Emilie, Kaitlyn and Sylvia.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mick; infant daughter, Susan; parents, Albert and Gladys; three sisters, Irene Estates, Mildred Schmied and Maxine Adney; and two brothers, Dale and Lawrence.

Private services and burial will be conducted in Green River at the Riverview cemetery.

James Elmer Martin Sr

BOUNTIFUL, Utah - James Elmer Martin Sr., 61, died Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2006.

He was born Oct. 22, 1944, to Joseph Houston Sr. and Nettie Elizabeth Slagle Martin in Thermopolis. He was raised in Rock Springs and Green River and had been a resident of Bountiful, Utah, since 1977. He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad from October 1963 until he became disabled in October 1996.

He married Pam Pierce on March 28, 1975. He had one son, Jim Jr., and a daughter by marriage, Elizabeth Ann Lissa.

He is survived by his wife, Pam; son, Jim; daughter, Lissa; family members, Joe and Marge Martin, Eddie and JoAnna Martin, Dewey and Angela Martin, Danny and Lore Martin, Marie Miller, Delores and Wayne Prime, Elva Martin and Ginger Martin; several in-laws; nieces and nephews; his cats, Iggy, Lucky, Squirrel and Lucy; his granddog, Ash; and grandcat, Lulu.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Nettie; and family members, Sam Martin, Bill Martin, Victoria and Hank Christensen, Violet and Frank Wilkes, Judy Martin, Mary Adeline and Harold Miller.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2006, at the Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 N. Main. Friends and family may call Monday, Sept. 27, 2006, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2006, from 9:45-10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be in the Bountiful City cemetery.

Karl Lee Williams

GREEN RIVER - Karl Lee Williams, 49, of Blake St., Green River, died Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2006, at the University Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was a lifelong resident of Green River.

He was born July 1, 1957, in Rock Springs, to Beverly and Carl Williams.

He was a member of the local Eagles and the NRA.

He worked with the City of Green River Water Department for many years. He was a hunter safety instructor with many medals and ribbons for his shooting skills.

His interests included hunting, military history, building tank models, playing chess and Risk with his sons, and bowling.

His survivors include two sons, Karl Lee Thomas and wife Kimberly and Nicholas James; one daughter, Pauline Clauson and husband Kyle; five grandchildren, Keenan, Shiloh, Conrad, Karl Lee Thomas Jr., and Wesley; wife, Christine; father, Carl; brother, Ron and wife Mary; one niece, Kada; two nephews, Ron Jr. and Johnathan; and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Beverly; and his grandparents, Blunk and Williams.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, 2006, at the Riverview cemetery in Green River.

Pallbearers are Gary Nelson, Karl and Nick Williams, Gary Garlick and Kit Schofield.

Honorary pallbearers are Ron Williams, Dan Blunk, Tom Stott, Terry Vincelle, Robert Herman and John Crosson.

Aldo Jeno Prevedel

OGDEN, Utah - Aldo Jeno Prevedel, 85, 3299 W. 3300 S., Ogden, Utah, died Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2006, with his family at his side.

He was born July 26, 1921, the first of four children to Austrian (Tyrolian) immigrants Floriano and Angelina Prevedel in Superior. He was the first American born in the family.

In 1929, the family purchased a farm in Kanesville, Utah, where he resided his entire life. He attended schools in Kanesville and Hooper, Utah, graduating from Weber High School. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps during World War II.

He married Rena Rauzi on May 27, 1944, in the St. Joseph Catho-lic Church. They were married 62 years and raised four children.

He is survived by his wife, Rena; children, David and wife Glenna Prevedel of Hooper, Diane and husband Jim Dembitz of Tempe, Ariz., Steven Prevedel of West Haven, Utah, and Brett and wife Suzi Prevedel of Roosevelt, Utah; seven grandchildren, Nicole Lindel, Ashley Dembitz, Daniel Prevedel, Angi Prevedel, Jamie Prevedel, Kaycee Prevedel and Josie Prevedel; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rita Hyland and Flora and husband Vee Sevy; and one brother, Dennie and wife Gerrie Prevedel.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Dana Prevedel.

A viewing was conducted at Larkin Mortuary in Ogden, Utah, Sunday, Sept. 24, 2006, from 6-8 p.m. Graveside services were at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 25, 2005, at Washington Heights Memorial Park.

Darlene Bly

HOUSTON - Darlene Bly, 63, of Pinedale, died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2006, in Houston, Texas.

She was born March 28, 1943, in Garden City, Kan., the daughter of Eunice Miller. She attended high school in Dragerton, Utah, and graduated from East Carbon High School in Price, Utah, in 1960.

She married Elmer Sonny Bly in 1962. They had two daughters, LaDawn Kaye and Stacey Lynn.

They moved to Rock Springs in 1970. She worked at JC Penney and was later one of the first female drivers for UPS. She was a partner in Jublin Shoes and Model Boot and Leather prior to moving to Pinedale in 1986. She was a house painter in Pinedale.

She was an avid softball player and was the pitcher for the Downtown Merchants Associa-tion womens team. The team qualified for state and regional tournaments several times. After moving to Pinedale, she took up bowling and bowled in Pinedale and Rock Springs leagues until her death. Other interests included traveling, visiting friends and family, gambling, and being with her only grandson Taylor and her dog Chauncey.

She was a member of the Pinedale Ladies Auxiliary VFW, Rock Springs American Legion Auxiliary and Rock Springs Ladies Auxiliary Eagles.

Survivors include her mother, Eunice Miller of White River, Colo.; two daughters and sons-in-law, LaDawn Bly and Ben Kidd of Houston and Stacey and Mike Court of Rock Springs; one grandson, Taylor Court; two sisters, Dorothy Chase and Ronda Miller; and one brother, Melvin Miller.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer; father, Harold Hall; stepfather, Harold Miller; and brother, Harold Guy Hall.

Memorial services and a celebration of life will be conducted at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, 2006, at the VFW Hall in Pinedale.

Murlie Elizabeth Foreman

GREEN RIVER - Murlie Elizabeth Foreman, 67, died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2006, while visiting friends in Elko, Nev. She was a resident of Green River for the past 25 years.

She was born Dec. 28, 1938, in Rodgers, N.D., to Clair and Murlie Cruff. She was raised on a farm and attended a one-room school through the eighth grade in Barnes County, N.D. She attended high school in Valley City, N.D., and graduated from Valley City High with the class of 1957.

She married Odis G. Foreman on Oct. 2, 1959, in San Diego, Calif.

She enjoyed spending time with her family and was an active member of Superior Baptist Church in Superior.

She is survived by her husband, Odis Foreman of Green River; three sons, Glenn Foreman of San Diego, Calif., Scott and wife Sandie of El Cajon, Calif., and Steven and wife Sara of Everett, Wash.; two daughters, Cheryl Foreman of Clifton, Colo., and Laura and husband Alvin McQuilliams of Mineola, Texas; 19 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Ken and wife Benora Cruff and Bill and wife Kathy Cruff, all of Rodgers, N.D., and Gary and wife Sandra of Vergas, Minn.; and two sisters, Carol and husband Dale Kiser and Bonnie Burchill, both of Valley City, N.D.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clair and Murlie; and brother and sister-in-law Jim Cruff and Karen Cruff.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 29, 2006, at the Superior Baptist Church in Superior. The Rev. Jim Coplin will conduct the services. Cremation has taken place.

Rose Marie Lell

ROCK SPRINGS - Rose Marie Lell, 60, of 45 Purple Sage Road No. 90, Rock Springs, died Monday, Sept. 25, 2006, at Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County. A longtime resident of Rock Springs and former resident of Green River, Mrs. Lell died following a lengthy illness.

She was born May 3, 1946, in Brainerd, Minn., the daughter of Martin and Ruby Doust. She attended schools in Brainerd.

She married Jack Lell in February 1971 in Grants, N.M.

She was employed as a C.N.A. for many years.

Her interests included spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Jack Lell of Rock Springs; one son, Darrell Lell and wife Jessica of Green River; three daughters, Judy Peterson and husband Brent and Debra Kight, both of Green River, and Jane Taylor and husband Ted of Grand Junction, Colo.; five brothers, Floyd and George Doust of Brainerd, Daniel and Steven Doust of Minneapolis, Minn., and Edward Doust of Arizona; three sisters, Ila Fanjoy, Sandra Miles and Irene Boyd, all of Brainerd; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Ruby; two sons, Adrian Lell and Martin Doust; three brothers, Howard, Raymond and Richard Doust; and two sisters, Daisy Storry and Donna Shepard.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29, 2006, at the Vase Flaming Gorge Chapel, 263 E. Flaming Gorge Way, Green River. The Rev. Lisa Hart will conduct the services. Friends may call at the chapel Thursday, Sept. 28, 2006, from 6-8 p.m. and again Friday at the chapel one hour prior to services.

Carol Jean Brown

ROCK SPRINGS - Carol Jean Brown, 63, of Rock Springs, died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2006, at her home.

She was born April 8, 1943, in Ava, Mo., the daughter of Daniel T. and Mildred Louise Haynes Bailey. She attended schools in Fremont, Calif., and graduated from Washington High School in Fremont with the class of 1959.

She married John Patrick OBrien in 1959. They were later divorced. She married Avery F. Buck Brown in 1974. He preceded her in death in 1986.

She was employed in motel management for many years.

Her interests included rock hunting, her grandchildren and studying American Indian culture.

Survivors include one son, Steve OBrien of Rock Springs; daughter, Kelly OBrien Fantin and husband Richard of Rock Springs; brothers, Daniel Bailey and wife Mary of Louisville, Ky., and Thomas Bailey and wife Cris of Albuquerque, N.M.; eight grandchildren, George, Senica, Danielle, Tara and April Moore, Thomas OBrien, McKenna McVickes and Avery OBrien, all of Rock Springs; three great-grandchildren, Ashtin and Kamryn Moore and Wesly Anastos; special friends, Donna Schmidt and Cindy Howe; and the staff of Rocky Mountain Home Care.

She was preceded in death by her father, Daniel; and husband, Avery.

Memorial services will be conducted at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, 2006, at Fox Funeral Home, 2800 Commercial Way, Rock Springs. Cremation will take place.

Catherine Mae Jackson

ROCK SPRINGS - Catherine Mae Jackson, 90, of 126 L St., Rock Springs, died at the Castle Rock Convalescent Center in Green River. A longtime resident of Rock Springs, Mrs. Jackson died following a lengthy illness.

She was born June 9, 1916, in Spearfish, S.D., the daughter of Charlie and Mabel Parsons. She attended school in Deadwood, S.D.

She married Lloyd L. Jackson in Deadwood. He preceded her in death on Aug. 8, 1989.

Mrs. Jackson worked as a clerk for Lou Ben Bakery for several years.

She was a member of the Victory Christian Fellowship in Rock Springs.

Her interests included baking, camping, cooking and hiking.

Survivors include one son, Theodore Jackson of Battle Mountain, Nev.; one daughter, Janice Jackson Switzer of Rock Springs; six grandchildren, Rodney Jackson, Lloyd Jackson, Catherine Tackett, Lois Jackson, Ted Jackson and John Jackson; and nine great-grandchildren, Spenzer, Crista, Jennifer, Justin, Sydney, J.T., Billie, Jessica and Nicole.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd; parents, Charlie and Mabel; two sisters, Flora Gross and Vera Harris; and two brothers, Harry Parsons and Hawley Parsons.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2006, at the Vase Funeral Chapel, 154 Elk St., Rock Springs. Inter-ment will be in the Rest Haven Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the chapel Wednesday, one hour prior to services.
