Eldon Merkel - 08/18/04

Funeral services for Eldon Clayton Merkel, 75, of Gillette will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Andrew Carsrud of the Family Life Church officiating.

Burial will follow at Mount Pisgah Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home Chapel.

Mr. Merkel died Monday, Aug. 16, 2004, at the Pioneer Manor Nursing Home in Gillette of natural causes.

He was born Aug. 5, 1929, to Sam and Clara (Wade) Merkel in Glenham, S.D., where he also was raised and educated.

On Oct. 20, 1945, he married LaVonne Wientjes in Glenham. From that time until 1963, the two farmed together. They later divorced. After farming, he became self-employed doing landscape work in Mobridge, S.D.

In 1981, he moved to Gillette where he began Cowboy Irrigation.

In 1986 he began work at the Farmers Co-Op, where he worked until 1994. During that time he continued Cowboy Irrigation, not retiring completely until 1999.

Mr. Merkel is survived by three daughters, Judy Jilek of Gillette, Sheri Larson of Albuquerque, N.M., and Eldonna McArthur of Gillette; two sons, Steve Merkel of Mobridge and Ben Merkel of Falls Church, Va.; one brother, Kennis Merkel of Lincoln, Neb.; two sisters, Arloa "Mrs. Jerry" Ingram of Texarcana, Ark., and Rosalyn "Punkie" Manharth of York, Neb.; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one infant sister, Karen; one infant granddaughter; and one infant great-granddaughter.

Retha Morgan - 08/20/04

Graveside services for Retha Morgan, 82, of Lancaster, Texas, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Mount Pisgah Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home Chapel.

Mrs. Morgan died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2004, in Casper.

KimLe Holloway - 11/18/04

Graveside services for KimLe Holloway, 40, of Gillette will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Mount Pisgah Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home Chapel.

Ms. Holloway died Monday, Nov. 15, 2004, at her home of natural causes.

She was born July 4, 1964. She graduated from high school in Denver. Due to a disability, she was unable to work. However, friends and family say she was a very talented artist. She enjoyed making homemade clocks, jewelry boxes and leather crafts. She also liked to color fuzzy posters and watch an assortment of movies.

Ms. Holloway is survived by her father, Lewis Holloway of Orange, Calif.; and two brothers, Kirk Holloway of Denver and Eric Holloway of Phoenix.

She was preceded in death by her mother.

Margaret T. Adams - 11/22/04

Funeral services for Margaret T. Adams, 87, formerly of Campbell County, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Buffalo with the Rev. Su Du Bee officiating.

Burial will be at 2 p.m. in the Ten Sleep Cemetery in Ten Sleep with the Rev. Sue Carey officiating.

Mrs. Adams died Sunday, Nov. 21, 2004, at the Amie Holt Care Center in Buffalo.

She was born Jan. 30, 1917, in Buffalo to Charles and Florence (Holland) Sorenson. She was raised on her family's ranch at Spotted Horse and graduated from Campbell County High School. She then attended Montana State University at Bozeman, Mont.

Following college, she taught school at the Warner Ranch School and at the Spotted Horse School.

She married James B. Smith in Gillette in 1937. They later divorced.

She moved to Newcastle to work for the Social Security Administration in 1944. She then moved to Casper in 1947 to work for Sacony-Vacuum for a year then moved to Sheridan to work for an architect. She took a job working for Northern Pacific Transportation in Billings, Mont., in 1952, and worked for them until retiring in 1972. She married Vern Adams in Sheridan in 1951. They later divorced.

Mrs. Adams moved to Ten Sleep in 1990 to be near her son, and in 2001 she moved to Buffalo. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Buffalo. Her hobbies included sewing, crocheting, collecting antique dishes, reading and watching professional football on television.

Mrs. Adams is survived by one son, Douglas Smith of Ten Sleep; one daughter, Roxanne Haughey of Phoenix; three grandchildren; and four great-grandsons.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Glenn Sorenson and Bob Sorenson.

Memorials may be made to The American Cancer Society in care of Connie Bowers at 316 S. 21st. St., Worland, WY 82401.

Freddie Schempp - 11/23/04

Funeral services for Freddie Oscar Schempp, 48, formerly of Gillette, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the River of Life Assembly of God Church in Devils Lake, N.D., with the Rev. Paul Durbin officiating.

Committal services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Gilbertson Funeral Home in Devils Lake with a procession to St. Michael's Cemetery in St. Michael, N.D., for burial. Military honors will be provided by the Neathery-Simensen Post 756 of Devils Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars. The committal service will be conducted by the Rev. John Flaa of St. Peter's Lutheran Church of Chaffee, N.D.

Mr. Schempp died Sunday, Nov. 21, 2004, at his home in Chaffee surrounded by his family.

He was born Aug. 15, 1956, in Breese, Ill., to Fred Charles and Helen Mary (Weil) Schempp.

On Aug. 15, 1970, his 14th birthday, the family moved to St. Michael, where he graduated from Warwick High School in 1974. He attended Lake Region Junior College and received his degree in auto mechanics.

He entered the North Dakota National Guard, receiving his training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. He was at one time married to Stacey Dionne and they had two daughters, Jennifer and Jamie.

Mr. Schempp moved to Gillette and worked on the oil rigs. Here, he met and married Linda Channel and they had a daughter, Kimberly Ann. They moved to St. Michael and he worked as a mechanic at Goodyear Tire in Devils Lake. They then moved to Ottawa, Kan., and he owned and operated along with his brother-in-law, Fred Ricks Construction. In September of 2000, they moved to Chaffee and he worked in Fargo, N.D., for Blahna Sales Inc. until illness forced him to retire.

He had a great passion for motorcycles and rode a 1983 Harley Davidson XLS Sportster. He was a charter member and past president of the Spirit Lake Riders. He was an excellent carpenter and wood worker and was a jack-of-all-trades. One project he was particularly proud of was the restoration of a Washburn Historical Home. He also loved fishing the Lake Region Lakes and spending time with family and friends.

Mr. Schempp is survived by his wife of Chaffee; three daughters, Jennifer Schempp and Jamie Murphy, both of Tennessee and Kimberly Ann Schempp of Chaffee; two grandchildren; his mother of St. Michael; one sister, Anna Fenner of Starkweather, N.D.; four brothers, Bob Schempp Sr. and Rickie Schempp, both of Chaffee, Fred Charles Schempp Jr. of Gillette, and Jeff Schempp of St. Michael; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, his grandparents, one uncle, and a nephew.
