Stephen "Stevie" Warren Schuck

GREEN RIVER - Services have been set for Stephen Stevie Warren Schuck. Graveside memorial services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, 2007, at Riverview cemetery in Green River.

Stephen Warren Schuck, 44, died Tuesday, Sept 4, 2007, at the Sage View Care Center in Rock Springs after a brief battle with cancer.

Evelyn Miles McCormick

RAWLINS - Evelyn Miles McCormick, 90, died on Oct. 5, 2007, at Lander Valley Medical Center after a lengthy illness.

She was born in Brownlee Nebraska on June 26, 1917, the daughter of Elmore George Miles and Silvia May (Meyers) Miles.

She lived in Senica, Nebr., where her father worked for the railroad and she grew to love trains. She attended high school at St. Agnes Academy in Alliance, Neb.

After graduation she went to Springfield, Missouri where she completed beauty school before moving to Wyoming.

She married John Alan McCormick in Basin on Aug. 25, 1934. They later moved to Wamsutter and she worked for her mother-in-law at the Broadway Cafe while John worked for many of the sheep companies out of Rawlins. Together they had four children. In 1950 they moved to Lander where she worked for many of the local restaurants and finished her career working as the morning supervisor in the kitchen at the Wyoming State Training School. She retired in 1986.

She enjoyed passing her time with her family, rock hunting and cooking.

In Wamsutter she worked on the election board. She also recorded mining claims and did assessment work for her mother-in-law.

Survivors include her children, Eileen Miller of Lander, George McCormick of Riverton, and William McCormick of Lander; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John McCormick; son, Charles McCormick; and granddaughter, Terri.

Funeral services took place at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, at Hudsons Funeral Home. Burial took place in Rawlins at the Rawlins City cemetery.

Margaret Elenor Scritchfield

CENTENNIAL, Colo. - Margaret Elenor Scritchfield, 86, longtime resident of Green River and Rock Springs, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2007, at Porter Hospice in Centennial, Colo., with her family at her side.

Scritchfield was the second of three daughters born to William S. and Margaret (Vaughan) Whittaker in Evanston on July 24, 1921. She graduated from Green River High School with the class of 1939. While in high school, she and her sisters performed as a musical trio.

Scritchfield worked for more than 30 years as a telephone operator in both Green River and Rock Springs and felt a great sense of accomplishment in achieving 30-plus years of perfect attendance on the job during those years.

Prior to working for the telephone company, she worked for the J.C. Penney Company in Green River as a window display designer.

She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Rock Springs and enjoyed singing in the church choirs in Green River and Rock Springs for more than 50 years. She was also active in the Stick & Stitch group and volunteered in the church office.

She was a member of Eastern Star, Mystic Chapter No. 8 of Green River for more than 50 years. She also regularly attended Christian Women's Club.

Her pursuit included making gifts for friends and family and she was accomplished in calligraphy, ceramics and needlework. She also enjoyed attending musical events with friends and family and viewing the scenery in Colorado and her native state of Wyoming.

She is survived by two daughters, Margaret Margie Kohler and husband, Marv of Grand Island, Neb., and Patricia Trish Kolm and husband Ken of Golden, Colo.; grandchildren, Jim Rogers of Grand Island, Emily Kolm, who is presently studying in Nairobi, Kenya, and Jen Kolm of Golden; two nephews, a niece and their families, Robert Beebe of San Jose, Calif., Chris Murphy of San Jose and Doyle E. Ware Jr. of Cheyenne.

Scritchfield was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Ann Ware and Billie Beebe; and several cousins.

A service in celebration of the life of Scritchfield will be conducted by the Rev. Harvey Joyner at the First Congregational Church, 1275 Adams Ave., Rock Springs on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2007, at 11 a.m. followed by lunch and a time for remembering and visiting with family. She was cremated so there will be no viewing.

A graveside service will take place at the Riverside cemetery in Green River at 2 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.

Wayron Rawl "Rooster" Kersey

ROCK SPRINGS - Services have been set for Wayron Rawl Rooster Kersey. Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be conducted from 4-8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, 2007, at the Elks Lodge, 307 C St., Rock Springs.

Kersey, 48, of Rock Springs, died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2007, at Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County.

He was a longtime resident of Rock Springs and former resident of South Carolina.

Edythe Belle Porenta

ROCK SPRINGS - Edythe Belle Porenta, 98, of 1225 Clark St., Rock Springs, died Friday, Dec. 7, 2007, at the Sage View Care Center following a brief illness surrounded by her family and favorite nurse Karen. She was a longtime resident of Reliance and Rock Springs.

Mrs. Porenta was born July 26, 1909 in Chattanooga, Tenn., the daughter of John and Julia Holmes.

She attended school in Reliance and Rock Springs and was a 1926 graduate of Rock Springs High School.

She attended and graduated from Colorado University in 1930. She obtained a bachelors degree in teaching and continued working on her masters degree.

She married John Porenta on Oct. 4, 1933 in Rock Springs. He preceded her in death on April 1, 1958.

Mrs. Porenta taught home economics in Reliance and Rock Springs for 30 years.

She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star for 75 years.

Her interests included local history and politics, sewing, cooking and working in her yard.

Survivors include one son, Kent Porenta and wife Kelly; dog, Mugsey; brother-in-law, Frank Porenta and wife Tilda; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and four brothers, Clarence, Charlie, Harry and John.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, 2007, at the First Congregational Church, 1275 Adams Ave., Rock Springs.

The Rev. Harvey Joyner will conduct the services. Interment will be in the Rock Springs Municipal cemetery. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to services. Pallbearers include Chuck Tate, Bud Nelson, David Tate, Tim Kaumo, Marty Martin and Kelly Kennedy. Honorary pallbearers include Carl Hayhurst, Kon Hayhurst, Kirk Hayhurst and Rockne Holmes.

Elmer Raymond Wenger

ROCK SPRINGS - Elmer Raymond Wenger, 90, of 2475 Cascade Drive, Rock Springs, died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2007, at the Sage View Care Center in Rock Springs. He had been a resident of Rock Springs since 2006 and former longtime resident of Marion, Iowa.

He was born March 15, 1917 in Independence, Iowa, the son of Ernest and Isabelle Dale Wenger. He attended schools in Coggon, Iowa.

He married the former Bertha Pauline Enabnit on July 10, 1946 at Jordan's Grove Church in Central City, Iowa.

Wenger was a self-employed farmer until the age of 37. He then worked as a welder for 27 years at Iowa Manufacturing in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

His interests included fishing, hunting and raising his coon dogs.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Bertha Wenger of Rock Springs; two sons, Gary Wenger and wife Chris of Glen Ellyn, Ill., and Kurt Wenger and wife Carrie of Zumbrota, Minn.; two daughters, Myra Clayton and husband Robert of Rock Springs and Lana Huie and husband John of San Clemente, Calif.; granddaughters, Cyndi Davidson of Rock Springs, Amber Wenger and Paige Wenger, both of Zumbrota, and Kaitlyn Huie of San Clemente; grandsons, James Wenger and wife Denise of Ellsworth, Wis., and Damion Wenger of Zumbrota; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; six sisters; and three brothers.

Following cremation, private family memorial services will be conducted.

Wenger's family will be receiving relatives and friends at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Myra and Robert Clayton, 1221 Secretariat Drive, Rock Springs.

Justin Roy Morgan

SALT LAKE CITY - Justin Roy Morgan, infant twin son of Donald Morgan and Veronica Rooney, died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2007, at the Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City.

He was born Nov. 26, 2007 in Salt Lake City.

Survivors include his parents; brothers, twin Jessie Lee Morgan and Dallas Morgan of Sandy, Utah; two sisters, Stephanie Rooney of Rock Springs and Kassandra Morgan of Sandy; paternal grandmother, Louise Smith of Rock Springs; paternal grandfather, Dr. A.E. Morgan of Texas; maternal grandparents, Jerry and Donna Rooney of Lyman; paternal great-grandmother, Adeline Montoya of Reliance; maternal great-grandfather, Steve Lane of Anaconda, Mont.; maternal great-grandmother, Marg Rooney of Elko, Nev.; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his paternal great-grandfather, Louis Montoya; maternal great-grandmother, Rita Lane; and paternal great-grandparents Dr. O.R. Morgan and Betty Morgan.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2007, at the Vase Funeral Chapel, 154 Elk St., Rock Springs.

Interment will be in the Rest Haven Memorial Gardens, north of Rock Springs,. Friends may call at the Vase Chapel one hour prior to services.

Robin Gene Carnahan

FORT MOHAVE, Ariz. - Robin Gene Carnahan, 52, died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2007, at her home. She was a longtime resident of Arizona having lived in Mesa, Flagstaff and Fort Mohave.

She was born Dec. 10, 1954, in Sacramento, Calif., to William A. and Wanda M. Libby. She attended school in Saudi Arabia and Lattore, West Pakistan. She graduated from the International School of Bangkok, Thailand in 1972. She also graduated from Western State College in Gunnison, Colo., with a BA in English.

She married Wes Carnahan in Arizona.

She was most recently employed as an office manager at Materials Testing Labs.

She is survived by her father, William A. Libby and wife Elizabeth of Kailua, Hawaii; husband, Wes of Fort Mohave; daughter, Becky and husband Brian Kiritsy of Flagstaff; son, Chris Simpson of Phoenix; stepdaughter, Shana of Camp Verde, Ariz.; stepson, Shawn of Phoenix; brothers, Bill Libby and wife Charleen of Green River and Mike Libby and wife Linda of Douglasville, Ga.; stepbrothers, Gary Knieper and wife Theresa of Rock Springs and Ken Knieper and wife Carol of Missoula, Mont.; grandson, Bradley of Flagstaff; Benjamin and Katelyn of Camp Verde; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Wanda M. Knieper; stepfather, Carl R. Knieper; stepsister, Karen Beck; and maternal and paternal grandparents.

Funeral services will be conducted at noon Saturday, Dec. 15, 2007, at the Fort Mohave Church, 5287 Highway 95, Suite N, Fort Mohave.

Gerald "Jerry" Erin Hemker

RIVERTON - Gerald "Jerry" Erin Hemker, 83, died Friday, March 7, 2008, at the Riverton Memorial Hospital.

He was born April 13, 1924, in Rochester, Minn., the son of George E. and Leona (Buss) Hemker.

He married Josina W. Krommenhoek on Oct. 13, 1980, in Elko, Nev.

Hemker worked as a truck driver. As the driver of 18-wheelers, he had logged more than 1 million miles for Conoco and Little America. He had also worked for Shupe and Yost Trucking for 13 years.

He lived in Minnesota before moving to Wyoming about 35 years ago.

He was a member of the Missouri Synod-Lutheran faith.

His interests included camping, playing cards, especially cribbage, and traveling around the country.

Survivors include his wife, Josina Hemker of Riverton; sons, Bruce Hemker and his wife Mary of Aurora, Colo., Delva Hemker and wife Cathy of Green River, Wayne Hemker and wife Cindy of Erie and Douglas Hemker of Rock Springs; daughters, Mary Sathra and husband Ken of Johnstown, Colo., and Sharon Hemker of Longmont, Colo.; stepson, Darrel Withrow of Riverton; stepdaughters, Laura Harris and husband Frank of Arapaho, Trudy Knight and husband Pat of Lander, Sherrie Keele and husband Dan of Riverton, Tina Pierce and husband Rod of Lander and Rose Pierce and husband Randy of Riverton; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Verna Moran of Rochester; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2008, at the Trinity Lutheran Church of Riverton.

James A. Fisher Sr.

BUTTE, Mont. - James A. Fisher Sr., 83, died Sunday, March 2, 2008, in Butte, Mont.

He was born to Frank and Mamie Fisher at Fort Belknap, Mont. He attended school at Flandreau, S.D.

He enlisted in the Navy in November 1942. He served in the Pacific during World War II. He was discharged Dec. 4, 1945. Upon his discharge from the military and a short stay on the reservation, he returned to Flandreau.

He met his first wife, Marcella Belcourt, in Flandreau. They had one son, James A. Fisher Jr. They later divorced.

He went to Wisconsin and worked as a boat swain. He returned to Montana and worked at various jobs as a cowboy. He went to Wyoming and married Eldine Haskins.

They had six children. They later divorced.

He continued to work as a cowboy in Wyoming. During this time he was one of the few to ride Buckskin Billy Sunday.

He returned to Butte and served on the Board of Directors of the North American Indian Alliance since 1988. He was vice chairman and chairperson of the board and a member of the pow-wow committee.

He is survived by his sons, James Fisher Jr. of Butte and Jesse J. Fisher of Rock Springs; daughters, AnnaBel Laabs, Shirley Fisher Pollo and Mary Montoya, all of Rock Springs; stepchildren, Bonnie Nelson, Tina Stagner, Diana Chalcraft, Hope Uriuta and Ginger Troester; eight grandchildren, Manuela Trujillo, Michelle Roberts, Michael and Tony Laabs, Jake and Lily Fisher, Joe, Robert and Jimmy Montoya and Colleen Evans; 21 great-grandchildren; brothers, Albert and Larry Fisher and Bill Running Fisher; and many nieces and nephews, including favorite nephews Tommy Fisher and Joe Scown.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Lawrence Gambler and Frank Fisher; stepson, James Chalcraft Jr.; sisters, Rosella Larson, Delores Fisher, Yolanda and Christine; and brother, Irving Fisher.

A viewing was conducted Thursday, March 6, 2008, at the North American Indian Alliance in Butte.

A rosary was conducted on Friday, March 7, 2008, in Hays, Mont.

Burial services were conducted Saturday, March 8, 2008, in the Fisher family cemetery.

Larry Michael Johnson

ALMY - Larry Michael Johnson, 40, died Monday, March 10, 2008, at his home in Almy.

He was born April 22, 1967, in Montpelier, Idaho, the son of Larry Merlin and Garnet Charmaine (Lewis) Johnson.

He married KelliAnn Kitchen on Nov. 1, 2003. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Mt. Timpanogos Temple on Aug. 16, 2007. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Arizona Phoenix Mission. He was an Eagle Scout and earned his Duty to God Award.

He was an investigator for the Uinta County Sheriff's Department and had been a police officer in Green River for 14 years.

His interests included camping, snowmobiling, four-wheeling, fishing, hunting, traveling, his animals, the outdoors, working around the house, mechanics and building things.

Mike was an elder in the Almy Evanston Ward.

He is survived by his wife, Kelli; children, Alison, Alycia, Laura and Paul; parents, Larry and Cheri Johnson of Green River; parents-in-law, Reed and Jolene Kitchen of Simi Valley, Calif.; two sisters, Dawn and husband Mert Love and Shawna and husband Mac McGhee, all of Green River; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by an aunt, Donna Myers; and grandparents, Pearl and Dewey Johnson and Donald and Georgia Lewis.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, March 14, 2008, at the Evanston Stake Center, 1224 Morse Lee St., Evanston, with President David Matthews officiating. Interment and graveside services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday at the Ovid cemetery, Ovid, Idaho. Visitation will be conducted from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, March 13, 2008, at the Crandall Funeral Home on and again one hour prior to services Friday.

Ryan Phillip Martin

GREEN RIVER - Ryan Phillip Martin, 28, of Green River, died Sunday, March 9, 2008, in San Pedro, Calif., after a sudden illness.

He was born Oct. 5, 1979, in Blackfoot, Idaho, the son of Bill Martin and Bobette Jackson Martin. He attended schools in Green River.

He married Kimberly Ann Knight on Jan. 6, 2001, in Green River.

He worked in the construction and oilfield industries.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

His interests included fishing, working out, movies and music.

Survivors include his wife, Kimberly Martin of Green River; one daughter, Alexis Lora Martin of Green River; parents, Bill Martin of Blackfoot, Idaho, and Bobette Martin of Green River; two brothers, Ross L. Martin and wife Amy of Dahlonega, Ga., and Lance T. Martin and wife Jeanna of Green River; two sisters, Lisa Lynn Peterson and husband Mike of Mountain View and Vicki Lee Ryans of Green River; paternal grandmother, Dorothy Martin of Riverside, Idaho; parents-in-law, Rod and Lora Knight of Green River; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert and Shirley Jackson and Ennis Martin.

Services will be conducted 11 a.m., Saturday, March 15, 2008, at the Green River LDS First and Third Ward Chapel, 1000 W. Fourth N., Green River. Bishop Robert Hunter will officiate. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Friday, March 14, 2008, and Saturday one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will take place in the Riverview cemetery, Green River.
