Wade Walter Sanderson

URIE - Wade Walter Sanderson, 29, died Tuesday, March 11, 2008, after he sustained injuries in an automobile accident.

He was born Oct. 23, 1978, in Ogden, Utah, the son of Jeffrey A. and Katherine L. (Baker) Sanderson.

He worked as an operator for FMC in Green River and was also an entrepreneur.

His interests included golfing, hunting, fishing and spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his parents, Jeffrey and Katherine Sanderson of Lyman; brother, Jeffrey B. Sanderson of Lyman; sister, Deana Sanderson and fiance' Rick Martin; nephews, Byron and Brad; niece, Crystal; grandfather, Bryan Sanderson of Lyman; uncles, Cecil Sanderson of Fort Bridger, Mike and wife Karen Crosby of Roseberg, Ore., and Buck and wife Donna Baker of Pleasant Hill, Ore.; aunts, Tammy Fretten of Oregon, Emma Sather Bluemel and friend Tim Heisdorffer of Kabona, Iowa, and Judy Sather of Reno, Nev.; cousins, including Billy Bluemel of Provo, Utah, and Analise and Taylor Bluemel of Kabona; and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Carmen Sanderson; and grandparents, Edwin and Charlene Sather.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 15, 2008, at the Urie LDS Stake Center. Visitation will be conducted from 11:30 a.m. Saturday until the time of services at the stake center. Private family graveside services will be conducted at a later date. Cremation will take place.

Aden Arthur (Pacheco) Beveridge

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - Aden Arthur (Pacheco) Beveridge, infant son of Sandra Sue Pacheco and Russell Arthur Beveridge, died Saturday, April 5, 2008, at the Children's Hospital in Aurora, Colo., due to complications from prematurity.

He was born Wednesday, April 2, 2008, in Grand Junction, Colo.

Survivors include his parents, Sandra Sue Pacheco and Russell Arthur Beveridge of Grand Junction; maternal grandparents, Madelene and Louis Pacheco of Rock Springs; great-grandparents, Maxine and Bill Vallez of Fruita, Colo.; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Arthur and Ivy Beveridge; paternal great-grandparents, Arthur and Alice Beveridge; maternal great-grandparents, Margret and Louis Pacheco; uncle, Terry Pacheco, and great-uncle, Fred Vallez.

Private family service will be conducted.

Dr. Donald C. Davis

ROCK SPRINGS - Dr. Donald C. Davis, 74, of 840 Rhode Island, Rock Springs, died Friday, April 11, 2008, at his home. He was a longtime resident of Rock Springs and former resident of Cheyenne.

He was born Feb. 1, 1934, in Cheyenne, the son of Carl O. and Arrah Lee Merryfield Davis. He attended schools in Cheyenne and graduated from Cheyenne High School with the class of 1952. He obtained his doctorate in dental science.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1958 until 1961.

He married Julie Poljanec on Sept. 3, 1976, at the SS. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Rock Springs.

He worked as a dentist for many years until his retirement in 1995.

Mr. Davis was a member of the Eagles Fraternity Order No. 151, Elks BPO Lodge No. 624, American Legion Archie Hay Post 24, Shriners, Masons of the 32nd Degree and the American Dental Association.

His interests included golfing, hunting, dancing and spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Julie of Rock Springs; three sons, Bill Campbell, Mark Campbell and Pat Campbell and wives, all of Rock Springs; one brother-in-law, John Poljanec of Jackson; two sisters-in-law, Gloria Poljanec of Denver and Jennie Desmond and husband of Reno, Nev.; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 19, 2008, at the SS. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, 633 Bridger Ave., Rock Springs. A memorial rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Friday, April 18, 2008, at the Vase Funeral Chapel, 154 Elk St., Rock Springs. Friends may call at the Vase Chapel on Saturday at the church one hour prior to service

Glanden Earl "Sonny" Smith Jr.

GILLETTE - Glanden Earl "Sonny" Smith Jr., 80, died Thursday, April 3, 2008, at Pioneer Manor Nursing Home in Gillette of an extended illness.

He was born July 16, 1927, in Haybro, Colo., the son of Glanden Earl and Julia (Suvada) Smith.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946 and in the U.S. Army from 1948 to 1970. He served in World War II, Korea, Japan, Alaska, Germany and Austria. He retired after serving more than 20 years in the U.S. military. He received numerous medals and ribbons while serving in the Pacific and Atlantic theatres and the Korean War.

He married Deon (Palmer) Crookston of Rock Springs on Nov. 29, 1996, in Gillette.

His interests included woodworking in his spare time.

He was a lifetime member of VFW and a past member of the Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by his wife; stepdaughters, Sally Parkin of Gillette and Pat and husband Mike Laveway of Libby, Mont.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; step-grandsons, J.C. Parkin and Alex Parkin of Gillette and Ian Laveway of Libby, Mont.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Donald Powell; and his son-in-law, Bob Parkin.

Upon his wishes, a private cremation service has taken place.

Lawrence Frances Mahoney

GREEN RIVER - Lawrence Frances Mahoney, 81, of 376 N. Eighth W. St., Green River, died Thursday, April 10, 2008, at Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County. He had been a resident of Green River and former resident of Baja, Calif.

He was born Jan. 1, 1927, in Portland, Ore., the son of Lawrence Frances and Zora Silvia Marler Mahoney Sr. He attended school in Portland and graduated from Jefferson High School. He also attended and graduated from Portland State and Oregon State University. He obtained a bachelor's degree in civil engineering.

He married Maria in California on Dec. 2, 1981.

Mr. Mahoney served in the U.S. Army/Air Force during World War II.

He worked as a civil engineer for R.W. Beck & Associates for 30 years until his retirement in 1989.

Mr. Mahoney was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, American Legion and the Amateur Trapshooting Association.

His interests included hunting, fishing and trapshooting.

Survivors include his wife, Maria Mahoney of Green River; three sons, Lawrence Mahoney III and John Mahoney, both of Washington, and Robert Mahoney of Green River; one daughter, Anne Shelton of Oregon; three brothers, Patrick Mahoney of Montana and Michael Mahoney and Dennis Mahoney, both of Oregon; one half brother, William Marler of California; two sisters, Silvia Lindberg and Kathleen Mahoney, both of Oregon; two half sisters, Mary Lou Marler of Washington and Ardith Marler Ford of Arizona; one grandchild, Fehlya (Jacqueline) McCabe of Portland; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, James Mahoney; one sister, Colleen Donaldson; and one half sister, Michelle Marler.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, April 14, 2008, at the Vase Flaming Gorge Chapel, 263 E. Flaming Gorge Way, Green River. Military graveside services and interment will be conducted at the Riverview cemetery in Green River. Friends may call at the Vase Flaming Gorge Chapel one hour prior to services.

Manuel Carrillo

ROCK SPRINGS - Manuel Carrillo, 83, of 505 P St., Rock Springs, died Friday, April 11, 2008, at his home. A lifelong resident of Rock Springs, he died following a lengthy illness.

He was born Nov. 30, 1924, in Mount Harris, Colo., the son of Manuel and Teresina Hartt. He attended school in Rock Springs.

He was employed by Mountain Fuel and retired as a measurement controller.

He married the former Eva Virginia Carrillo on June 17, 1947 in Rock Springs. She preceded him in death on Jan. 29, 2007.

His interests included playing his guitar and singing, hunting, fishing, woodcarving, story telling and spending time with his family. Mr. Carrillo was one of the founders of the Young at Heart Senior Citizen's Band and also played and sang with many bands in Rock Springs.

He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles for many years.

Survivors include two sons, Rick Carrillo and Becky Goplerud of Rock Springs and John Carrillo and wife Trudy of Rigby, Idaho; two daughters, Maxine Carrillo of Rock Springs and Barbara Coletti of Rock Springs; two brothers, Tom Carrillo and wife Peggy of Rock Springs and Louis Carrillo and wife Billie of Reliance; six grandchildren, Mike Carrillo, Gwen Hill, Nathan Coletti, Tim Coletti, Becky Abrahamson and Dana Coletti; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one sister, Laura Maestas; and one grandson.

Cremation will take place. Memorial services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2008, at the Vase Funeral Chapel, 154 Elk St., Rock Springs. Friends may call at the Vase Chapel one hour prior to services.

Thomas Shore Smith

SARATOGA - Thomas Shore Smith, 83, of Saratoga, died Wednesday, April 9, 2008, at Ivinson Memorial Hospital in Laramie. He was a former Laramie resident.

He was born Dec. 7, 1924, to Thomas C. and Annie (McTee) Smith of Rock Springs. He graduated from Rock Springs High School in May 1942.

He worked with the Montgomery & Ward Company as a sales clerk for one year. At the age of 19 he entered the Army Air Force Cadet Training Program on June 7, 1943. On Sept. 8, 1944, he received his pilot's wings and commission as a second lieutenant. On March 15, 1945, he and his crew flew a new B-24 aircraft overseas for assignment with the 466th Bomb Group of the 8th Air Force, at Attlebridge, England.

After discharge from the service on Oct. 6, 1945, he again become employed with the Montgomery & Ward Company and worked there until he entered the University of Wyoming in fall 1946. He received a B.S. degree in business administration with the class of 1950. He then worked for the Rock Springs National Bank.

He married Jacqueline E. Krueger on May 25, 1952. She was the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. K.E. Krueger, also of Rock Springs.

Shortly after marriage, the couple accepted employment with the government of American Samoa. Mr. Smith was hired as an accountant and his wife worked as a school teacher. They left the United States on June 7, 1951. During the subsequent four-year period, Mr. Smith advanced to the position of director of Budget and Finance for the government of American Samoa. Upon completion of his contract with the Samoan government in May 1956, he and his wife traveled around the world with their daughter Jane, who had been born March 19, 1953, in American Samoa.

They returned to the United States in August 1956, at which time he entered the University of Wyoming Law School. He received his Juris Doctor Degree in law in June 1960. After graduation, he joined the law firm of Pence & Millett in Laramie. He practiced law with that firm until summer 1961, at which time he established his own practice.

He was then named city attorney for the city of Laramie and was joined in the practice of law by John E. Stanfield. John B. Scott joined the firm in 1970, establishing the firm of Smith, Stanfield & Scott, which continued in existence until December 1994.

Mr. Smith was also attorney for the Wyoming Association of Municipalities. He has served as the president of Albany County Bar Association, president of the Wyoming State Bar Association and president of the Western States Bar Conference. He was a member of the ATO Fraternity and served as president in 1948. He has served as a board member and president of the University of Wyoming Foundation and a board member and past president of the Ivinson Memorial Hospital Foundation. He has served as a board member and past chairman of the BLM Advisory Committee for the Rawlins District.

He had served on the board of directors of the Bank of Laramie, Laramie Chamber of Commerce, Cathedral Home for Children, Cowboy Joy Club and Wyoming Association of Municipalities. He is listed in Who's Who in American Law and Who's Who in America. He was a member of the B.P.O. Elks Lodge No. 582, Laramie Country Club and the Old Baldy Country Club of Saratoga.

He retired from the active practice of law in December 1994. He moved with his wife to Saratoga in 1998.

He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Smith of Saratoga; daughter, Carolyn Jane Smith of New York City; two sons, Karl Thomas Smith and his wife Carol and children James, Katelyn and Annie of Elizabeth, Colo., and David Shore Smith and wife Tiana and children Nikko and Telik of Seattle.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Alfred Smith.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, April 14, 2008, at St. Matthew's Episcopal Cathedral in Laramie. The Very Rev. Marilyn Engstrom will be the celebrant.

Burial will be at 3 p.m. Monday, April 14, 2008, at the Valley Chapel in the Saratoga cemetery in Saratoga. Visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, April 13, 2008, at the Montgomery-Stryker Funeral Home, 2133 Rainbow Ave., Laramie.

Charles Ellis Christensen

MOUNT PLEASANT, Utah - Charles Ellis Christensen, 57, died May 1, 2008, in Mount Pleasant, Utah.

He was born Feb. 28, 1951, in Mount Pleasant to Ellis J. and Lucile Rutishauser Christensen. He grew up in Moroni, Utah.

He lived in Rock Springs for 17 years and worked at Vaughn's Plumber & Heating.

He was a master plumber/philosopher and spent many of his professional years providing services to Wasatch Academy.

His interests included the mountains, being outdoors, hunting, fishing, working in his yard, animals and children.

His is survived by one son, Tony Christensen of Rock Springs; Vicki Merrill; stepdaughters, Amanda Strate and Candie Druce; sister, Susan Anderson and husband Steven and four children of Spokane, Wash.; and Connie and Clayton Gradert and their four children.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 10, 2008, at the Wasatch Academy auditorium.

Lena Chipp

ROCK SPRINGS - Lena Chipp, 86, of 821 Rugby, Rock Springs, died Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at the Sage View Care Center, where she had been a resident for the past six weeks. A longtime resident of Rock Springs and former Superior resident, she had been in ill health for several years.

She was born May 19, 1921, in Superior, the daughter of Alex and Mary Corazza Prevedel. She attended school in Superior and Rock Springs.

She married Harry R. Chipp on Aug. 27, 1949, in Green River.

Her interests included spending time with her family, gardening and baking.

Survivors include her husband, Harry R. Chipp of Rock Springs; one son, Raymond Chipp of Rock Springs; one daughter, Patricia Miller and husband Bert of Rock Springs; one grandson, Chad Miller of Rock Springs; one granddaughter, Kristie Miller of Grants Pass, Ore.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters; and one brother.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, May 12, 2008, at the Vase Funeral Chapel, 154 Elk St., Rock Springs. Friends may call at the Vase Chapel from 4-6 p.m. Sunday, May 11, 2008, and again on Monday one hour prior to services. Cremation will take place. Mrs. Chipp's family will be receiving relatives and friends at the home of her daughter on 209 Jade St., Rock Springs.

Robin Kaye Odom

SALT LAKE CITY - Robin Kaye Odom, 40, of Salt Lake City died Friday, May 30, 2008, in her home from complications resulting from a bicycling accident.

She was born Dec. 21, 1967 in Martinez, Calif., the daughter of Tom and Ruth Odom. She attended school in Austin, Texas, and later moved to Salt Lake City.

She moved to Rock Springs in 1988, where she met and lived with her partner, John A. Cheesley. She later gave birth to her first daughter, Brandie T.R. Cheesley.

She then moved to Northern California and married Richard Garcia. She gave birth to a son, Ricky, and daughter, Brittny Garcia.

Her interests included camping, fishing, boating, hunting and spending time with her children, grandchildren, friends and roommates in her home.

Survivors include her father, Tom Odom Sr.; sister, JoAnn Johnson; former partner, John Cheesley of Rock Springs; daughters, Brandie T.R. Roland of Rock Springs and Brittny Garcia of Salt Lake City; son, Ricky Garcia of Salt Lake City; granddaughter, Destiny Roland of Rock Springs; aunt, Suzie Clod of Copperopol, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Ruth Odom; and brother, Tommy Odom Jr.

Cremation will take place. A memorial will be announced at a later date.

Deon Caine McNalley

WOODS CROSS, Utah - Deon Caine McNalley, 87, died Wednesday, July 9, 2008, at her home in Woods Cross, Utah.

She was born Sept. 6, 1920, to Benjamin Caine and Lucy Mable Shelton. She was raised and educated in Wyoming. She married Lewis McNalley on Oct. 4, 1937, and traveled with her husband who worked for Utah Construction Co. They lived in several states for short stays with his work. In 1942 they moved to a farm in Farson, where she became a farmer's wife. After three years, the family moved back to her roots in Superior. In 1957 they moved to Rock Springs. After retiring in 1983 they moved to their current home in Woods Cross.

She was an active member of the LDS Woods Cross 2nd Ward. Her interests included family and attending swim meets, basketball, baseball games and school activities. She was also a caregiver to her husband in the last several years.

Survivors include her husband; son, Ronald 'Ron' and wife Connie McNalley of Rock Springs; daughter, Nancy and husband Anthony 'Tony' Hopson of Bountiful, Utah; four grandchildren, Steve and wife Francesca Hopson, Jana Adams, Michael and wife Julie McNalley and Julie Seymour, and 12 great-grandchildren Halli, Hilari, Harrison, Branson, Olivia, Faith, Jordyn, Madison, Ryan, Dylan, Mallory and Matthew.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, July 14, 2008, 11 a.m. at Lindquist's Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N. 400 E. Friends and family may call Saturday, July 12, 2008, from 6-8 p.m. and 10-10:45 a.m prior to services. Interment will be at the Bountiful City cemetery.

Jose T. "Teddy Bear" Rivera

ROCK SPRINGS - Jose T. 'Teddy Bear' Rivera, 82, of Rock Springs died Saturday, July 12, 2008, at his residence following a lengthy illness.

He was born May 12, 1926 Costillia, N.M., the son of Juan Teodoro Rivera and Lilly Casias Galvez.

Rivera attended schools in Costillia. He married Priscilla Martinez on Jan. 28, 1950, in Lander.

He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and received honorable discharge in 1946. He served in the 158th infantry and was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, Army of Occupation Medal, WWII Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon.

He was employed with Allied Chemical (General Chemical) in Green River for 23 years, retiring in September of 1984.

He was a member of the American Legion, the United Steel Worker's of America No. 15320 and the Holy Spirit Catholic Community.

His interests included hunting, fishing, working in his garage, yard work, traveling, boxing, football and spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Priscilla Rivera of Rock Springs; three sons, Ernie Rivera and wife JoAnn of Farson, Murrell Rivera and wife Marsha, and Teddy C. Rivera all of Rock Springs; two daughters, Frances Reed and husband Doyle, and Laurie Cheadle all of Rock Springs; brother, Dave Galvez of Rock Springs; three sisters, Margaret Martinez and husband Juan of Reliance, Ruth Frady of Rock Springs, Mary Agnes Chavez of Salt Lake City; sister-in-law Dee Rivera of Denver; 12 grandchildren, Eli Rivera and wife Jennie, Steven Reed and wife Jenny, Jeremy Cheadle, Jonathan Cheadle, Robert Reed, Shawn Reed, Kenny Grunder, Bobby Grunder all of Rock Springs, Murrell Rivera of Arkansas, Steve Ball of Salt Lake City, Crystal Rivera of Arkansas, Jerrelynn Rivera of Farson, Jean Ball of Rock Springs, Jamie West of Washington; one great-granddaughter, Jade Audrey Reed of Rock Springs; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Fred S. Rivera, stepfather Dan Galvez and son-in-law Rickie Lee Cheadle.

Friends may call 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, 2008, at Fox Funeral Home, 2800 Commercial Way, Rock Springs. Cremation will follow at Fox Crematory. No services will take place.
