George Parker

A memorial service for former Cody resident George Parker will be 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Eagles Lodge, 1001 13th St.

Mr. Parker, 76, died June 10, 2000, at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Sheridan.

Lunch will be served.

Catherine Homan

Catherine Homan, 79, died Monday, July 10, 2000, at the Long Term Care Center.

Catherine was born Nov. 30, 1920, in Washoe, Mont., the daughter of Gus and Elizabeth Garr Gerhardt.

She married " target="_blank">married Frank J. Homan on Aug. 28, 1938, in Red Lodge. The couple moved to Cody 32 years ago.

Catherine's family was the most important thing in her life and she enjoyed the time she could spend with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include daughters Kathy Hendricks of Cody, Annette Anderson of Fromberg, Mont., and Phyllis Taylor of Elko, Nev., several grandchildren, including Kimberly Hendricks of Cody, and many great-grandchildren, including Kenny Hendricks of Cody.

She was preceded in death by her husband Feb. 12, 1990, her parents, son Miles Homan, brothers Ben, Bill, Gus, Cliff and John and sisters Minni, Florence and Julia.

Cremation has taken place and interment of cremains will be in Riverside Cemetery.

Fred S. Webb

Fred S. Webb, 74, died Monday, July 10, 2000, at the Long Term Care Center.

Fred was born Jan. 20, 1926, in Illinois, and married " target="_blank">married Mina McDonald on July 25, 1964.

He was a retired mechanic for the city of Cody.

Survivors include his wife of Cody, son Sid and wife Sherry McDonald of Thermopolis, daughter Ellen and Dale Hall of Illinois, sister Juliette and Gene Moore of Illinois, brother Jim and Grace Webb of California, granddaughters and spouses Misty and Michael Jacobs of Casper and Mandy and Eric Anderson of Laramie, and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Walter, Earl and Pat.

Cremation has taken place and in accordance with his wishes, no services will be held.

Margaret G. Kukla

Margaret G. Kukla, 79, of Cody died Friday, July 14, 2000, at the Long Term Care Center.

She was born Jan. 12, 1921, in Worland to Thomas and Anna Sokal Rubis.

Margaret was raised on farms on the west side of the river near Worland and attended schools at Manderson, graduating from Manderson High School in 1939.

On Nov. 30, 1940, she married " target="_blank">married Ollie Kukla in Salt Lake City.

The couple farmed north of Worland until 1950, when they moved to Burlington and continued to farm and ranch. In 1964, they bought a ranch north of Meeteetse and operated it until retiring and moving to Cody in 1997.

She was an active member of the Meeteetse CowBelles for many years and had been honored by them in 1999 when they gave her the Ranch Legacy Tribute Award. She considered her Meeteetse neighbors as more than friends as they often helped at branding and other ranch-related events.

She was also a member of the Greybull DOES Lodge for many years.

Her hobbies included growing flowers and gardening, cooking and traveling with her husband.

Survivors include her husband of Cody, brothers Jim and wife Audrey Rubis of Manderson, sisters-in-law Dorothy Kukla of Billings and Ramona Rubis of Worland, brother-in-law Stan Kukla of Billings, and many nieces and nephews, including Sydney, Connie and Marylee, all of Billings.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Tom, George, Albert and Ed Rubis, sisters Mary Rubis, Emma Jakos, Helen Mosegard and Rose Nelson.

A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Worland. Cremains will be interred at Riverview M emorial Gardens Cemetery in Worland.

Memorials may be sent to Spirit Mountain Hospice, 707 Sheridan Ave., Cody.

Robert C. Derry

Lifelong Powell resident Robert C. Derry, 81, died Saturday at St. Vincent Hospital in Billings.

He was born Feb. 7, 1919, in Powell to Clarence and Lucille Beatrice Miller Derry. He attended school in Powell and also completed two years of college in Greenville, Ill.

On July 31, 1942, he and Jane Elizabeth Frick were married " target="_blank">married in Powell.

Mr. Derry served in the Army during World War II and was stationed in Japan.

He served 10 years as a 4-H leader and was a member of the American Legion. He was an avid sportsman who loved fishing, trapping and woodworking.

He enjoyed watching Powell High School and Northwest College basketball games.

Survivors include his wife of Powell, sons Floyd Derry and wife Mary of Powell and Gary Derry of Bonney Lake, Wash., daughter Judy Prewitt and Mike of Casper, brother Earl and Dorothy Derry of Yakima, Wash., seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Miratsky-Easton Funeral Home in Powell.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Crown Hill Cemetery in Powell.

Kathryn Elizabeth Dvarishkis

Meeteetse resident Kathryn Elizabeth Dvarishkis, 85, died Sunday, July 16, 2000, as the result of a heart attack she suffered earlier in the week.

Kathryn was born April 21, 1915, to Sherman and Beatrice Kirkpatrick of Clarksburg, W.Va. Her family moved to Powell where she finished high school.

She returned to West Virginia and received her bachelor's from Wesleyan College. Kathryn returned to Wyoming to teach in a one-room school at Dick Creek.

While working there, she met Edwin Austin Dvarishkis. They were married " target="_blank">married Feb. 8, 1941, in Powell. Together they had five children.

She cooked for and was a substitute mom for all the young cowboys who worked for Eddie. When she retired from her volunteer cooking job, she became the librarian at Meeteetse School.

She donated her time as a reading grandmother, CowBelle, worker in the church thrift shop, library board member and school board member.

She will be remembered for her good cooking, love of music, birds, pansies and beautiful singing voice.

Survivors include her husband Eddie, children and their spouses Patrick and Mary Dvarishkis of Ballantine, Mont., Sandy Dvarishkis of Billings, Kathryn and Pete Melsted of Tucson, Ariz., Sylvia Robert of Arlee, Mont., Mark and Dorcie Dvarishkis of Missoula, Mont., sisters Toni Meleady, Mary Erhardt and Donna Homewood, 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A celebration of her life will be 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Meeteetse.

Memorial contributions may be made to Partners in Education or the Senior Citizens Center in Meeteetse.

Dee Ray Peterson

Lifelong Cowley resident Dee Ray Peterson, 70, died July 16, 2000, at St. Vincent Hospital in Billings following complications from knee replacement surgery.

Dee was born June 16, 1930, in Salt Lake City, and spent his life in Cowley.

His life was spent trelessly working for and serving others, the influence of which has been felt beyond his hometown.

At the time of his death, he was president and CEO of the Office Shop, Inc., a company he started in 1970, four-term mayor of Cowley and stake mission president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His wisdom and capacity to love will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his wife LeRose Peterson, sister Loa Jean Smith of Alpine, Utah, children Cindy Schmidt of Littleton, Colo., Randall Peterson of Tulsa, Okla., Joel and Ray Peterson of Cowley, Ken Peterson of Brookings, S.D., Curt Peterson of Dodge City, Kan., and Laurel Wicke of Irvine, Calif., 20 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents Ren and Laura Peterson.

Viewing will be 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Haskell Funeral Home in Lovell.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Cowley LDS Church with interment following at the Cowley Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established at the Cowley History Center.

Toni L. Scheiber

Toni L. Scheiber, 20, died July 11, 2000, at West Park Hospital.

Cremation will take place and private family services are planned.

A memorial fund for Toni Scheiber has been established at First National Bank and Trust, P.O. Box 2260, Cody.

Proceeds will benefit a Cody Nite Rodeo and Northwest College scholarship fund.

Sterling Darwin "Speed" Spiegelberg

Sterling Darwin "Speed" Spiegelberg, 86, died Wednesday, July 19, 2000, at his home in Cody.

He was born April 17, 1914, in Culbertson, Mont., the son of Emil Otto and Evangeline May Korlaskie Spiegelberg.

Speed married " target="_blank">married Thelma Maxine Borner in Basin.

A Cody resident for many years, Mr. Spiegelberg worked as a big game outfitter. In July 2000, Speed wrote and published a book, "125,000 Miles on the Trail of an Elk."

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Kefar Shrine Club, Elks Club, Boot and Bottle Club and First Presbyterian Church of Cody.

Survivors include his wife of Cody, sons and their wives Dean and Kay Spiegelberg of Bozeman, Hale and Beverly Spiegelberg of Atlanta, daughters Lura Showman, and Betty and husband Dale Cowan, all of Cody, sisters Marguerite Bickel of Central Point, Ore., and Elvira Bergstrom of Mesa, Ariz., eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Memorial services were Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church. Private family interment services will be at Riverside Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to Spirit Mountain Hospice, 707 Sheridan Ave., Shrine Travel Fund for the Shrine Children's Hospital, 1138A Rumsey Ave., or Children's Resource Center and Special Touch Preschool, 808 North St., Cody.
