Ray Norman Jenson

Ray Norman Jenson, 86, died Friday, July 21, 2000, at the Long Term Care Center.

He was born Feb. 17, 1914, in Brigham City, Utah, the son of Royal Leo and Mary Lauretta Olsen Jenson.

He married " target="_blank">married DeLone Aleda Nicholas on Nov. 26, 1938, in Parowan, Utah.

Ray moved his family to Cody in 1962 to work at the then Big Horn Gypsum Co., owned by his brother-in-law, Sid Eliason. He continued to work there until his retirement.

Ray loved Cody and the surrounding area. He was an avid fisherman and his favorite spots were along the North Fork of the Shoshone River. Ray loved camping and hunting with his family.

Before moving to Cody from Salt Lake City, he was a Scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts of America. He was an elder in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He is survived by his sons and their wives, Wray and Karen Jenson and Leon and Gerry Jenson of Cody, daughters and their husbands Sheryl and Kraig Balls of Gillette and Pam and Bob Pyle of Cody, 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and a sister and her husband June and Glenn Fife of Brigham City.

He was preceded in death by his wife, DeLone, on May 5, 2000, his parents, a brother, R. Leo Jenson, and sisters Elva Twitchell, Leota Eliason, Uarda Call and Viola Pett.

Funeral services for Ray Norman Jenson will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Cody Stake Center.

Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery. The casket will be open in the Relief Society Room from 9 a.m. until service time.

Alfredo F. Matiella

Alfredo F. Matiella, 83, died Tuesday, July 18, 2000, at the Powell Nursing Home.

Mr. Matiella was born to Jose and Consuelo Fernandez Matiella on Sept. 27, 1916, in Nogales, Ariz.

On Oct. 25, 1940, he married " target="_blank">married Maria-Luz Morales in Nogales. She preceded him in death June 20, 1984.

After retirement, Mr. Matiella moved to Cody in 1992 to be near his daughter Elsa and son Frank and their families.

Afredo was involved with helping people in many ways. He was a Past Grand Master of the Masonic Lodge in Nogales, Ariz., and Nogales, Sonora, Mexico.

He was also a Shriner in Nogales. As a Shriner, he helped Mexican orphans with severe burns and disabilities by taking them to the Children's Hospital in Tucson, Ariz.

During World War II, he served in the Navy.

He was a member of Victory Fellowship Church in Cody.

Mr. Matiella is survived by children and their spouses Alfredo Jr. and Kathy of San Antonio, Benjamin and Teresita of Tucson, Carlos and Jane of Tempe, Ariz., David and Maria Pillar of Miami, Elsa and Roy Carson of Cody and Francisco and Valerie of Powell, sisters Olga Azcona of Mazatlan, Mexico, and Martha Tellez of Houston, 16 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A memorial service with burial of cremains will take place at a later time in Nogales, Ariz.

Joseph Edward Paisley

Joseph Edward Paisley, 72, died of cancer July 6, 2000, at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Seattle, Wash.

Joe was born Dec. 14, 1927, to Joseph Nevels Paisley and Jennie Helen Dupre in Springfield, Mo. Shortly after he was born, his family moved to Tulsa, Okla.

At age 6, Joe and his twin brother and sister were placed in St. Joseph's orphanage at Bethany, Okla. Four years later, they were reunited with their mother and lived in Tulsa.

Joe joined the Navy at age 15 and served in the Pacific Theater during World War II with a Marine detachment, and in the Korean War.

After his discharge from the Navy, he moved to Tarrytown, N.Y., where he married " target="_blank">married Barbara Schneider. They moved to New York City, where Joe worked for the Plaza Hotel as chief cashier.

After retirement, he moved to North Bend, Wash., where he had many friends and was known as a champion pool player.

Survivors include his daughters Patricia Paisley of Manhattan, N.Y., Kristina and Dan Erath and granddaughter Kaylee of Long Island, N.Y., sister Ann Rita Boudreau of San Antonio, his twin brother and sister-in-law John and Arlyne Paisley of Cody, 13 nieces and nephews and 20 grandnieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Cremation has taken place and per his wishes, his ashes have been scattered over the Pacific Ocean.

Judy A. Stricker

Judy A. Stricker, 56, died Sunday, July 23, 2000, at West Park Hospital.

She was born July 19, 1944, in Scottsbluff, Neb., the daughter of Wayne and Vivian Sloan Wamser.

She married " target="_blank">married Larry L. Stricker on June 3, 1962, in Scottsbluff.

Judy and Larry moved to Wyoming 28 years ago and lived in Cody the past 21 years.

At the time of her death, she was employed at Energy West.

Judy was a member of the Wyoming Women's Bowling Association and was second vice president.

She was active in bowling associations and also enjoyed camping and fishing.

Survivors include her husband Larry of Cody, daughter Michelle Chenoweth of Wilmington, N.C., grandson Chad Stricker, mother Vivian Wamser of Gering, Neb., and sister Sandra Larson of Missoula, Mont.

She was preceded in death by her father.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Central Church of Christ in Gering, Neb.

Cremation has taken place and local services are pending.

Memorial donations may be made to the Wyoming Bowlers Memorial Scholarship.

David Lewis Cole Mettlin

David Lewis Cole Mettlin, 39, died Monday, July 24, at his home in Cody.

He was born Nov. 27, 1960, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Donald Lewis and Betty Jean Struckman Mettlin.

He married " target="_blank">married Patricia Ann Meier on Feb. 4, 2000.

David was raised in Waterloo, attended schools there and graduating from Central High School.

While in Iowa, he worked as a sawyer in a lumber mill. Following his move to Cody 22 years ago, David worked in the oilfields.

At the time of his death, he was employed by S & L Industrial as a flagger on the North Fork.

He enjoyed fishing, camping and sightseeing.

He is survived by his wife Patricia of Cody, son Joshua Mettlin of Cody, stepdaughters Nina Meier of Denver and Monica Neves of Burlington, mother Betty Jean Mettlin of Waterloo, brother Brian Mettlin of Waterloo and sisters Cathy Porter of St. Louis, Mo., and Jackie Gerringa of Boyd, Mont.

He was preceded in death by his father five years ago.

A memorial service will be Saturday, July 29, at 1 p.m. at Wayfarer's Chapel on the North Fork.

The Rev. Warren Murphy will officiate.

Cremation has taken place.

Gary Dean Metz

Former Cody resident Gary Dean Metz, 54, died recently in Tacoma, Wash.

He graduated from Cody High School in 1963 and attended Northwest College before serving in the military in Korea.

He is survived by his father Dale of Washington state and daughter Trish of California.

He was preceded in death by his mother Jean Parnell in 1978, stepfather Bill Parnell in 1999 and his grandparents Alvin and Winnie Kulhanek in 1968 and 1983, respectively, all of Cody.

Cremation has taken place and burial will be 4 p.m. Monday at Riverside Cemetery.

Judy Arlene Brewer

Judy Arlene Brewer, 54, of Cody died Wednesday, July 26, 2000, at St. Vincent Hospital in Billings from injuries received in a horse riding accident.

She was born March 28, 1946, in Cody, the daughter of Frederick T. "Ted" and Florence M. Jones Ebert.

Judy attended schools in Cody and graduated from Cody High School in 1965. She attended cosmetology school in Billings following graduation.

She later attended CNA school and worked as a caregiver until the time of her death.

She had just started her own business, Wyoming Western Decorative Arts. She enjoyed crafts and painting

Judy loved riding horses, fishing and camping.

She loved her family and grandkids, and the mountains and outdoors.

Survivors include her husband Ross of Meeteetse, children Kim Warren of Rock Springs, Ben and Joleen Brewer of Billings, Amy and Burt Brewer of Meeteetse, stepchildren Tom and Kelli Brewer of Murdock, Neb., Kelly and Clark Thorsen of Gordon, Neb., Jeff and Anita Brewer of Gordon, Neb., and Mike and Tiffany Brewer of Meeteetse, brother Fred Ebert of Meeteetse, sisters Sandi Shumway of Powell and Toni Trollinger of Cody and 19 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A memorial service was Monday at Ballard Funeral Home. Cremation has taken place.

Eugene Francis Ewalt

Former Cody resident Eugene Francis Ewalt, 65, died Thursday, July 27, at Cogdell Memorial Hospital in Snyder, Texas after a lengthy illness.

He was born March 12, 1935, in Cody.

He married " target="_blank">married Joanne Grace Bobbitton on Sept. 4, 1954, in Cody.

He is survived by his wife Joanne Ewalt of Snyder, daughters and their husbands Debra and Loren Torgerson of Prescott Valley, Ariz., Carrol and Don Ray of Clovis, N.M., Vicki and Cory Allen of Grants, N.M., sons and their wives Dennis and Joyce Ewalt of Jordan, Ark., David and Laura Ewalt of Quaker Hill, Conn., and Eugene E. Ewalt of Snyder, mother Clair Southwick of Riverton, sisters Evelyn Shultz of Riverton, Ethel and John Rolland of Riverton and brother Marvin and Norma Ewalt of Powell. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father Marvin Ewalt, son Eugene F. Ewalt Jr. and brothers Kenneth Ewalt and James Ewalt.

Funeral services were July 30 at Wright Colonial Funeral Home Chapel in Snyder. Nan Swanson, pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Snyder, officiated. Visitation was July 29. Cremation is planned.
