Bucky Bradford

A memorial service for Bucky M. Bradford, 57, will be held at the rodeo grounds at 1 p.m. Aug. 8, 2001.

The 1976 world champion team roper died July 15 in Phoenix, Ariz. For more information, call Tiny Bradford, (406) 287-7923.

Steven Louis Sims

Steven Louis Sims, 53, of Powell died of natural causes on Aug. 4, 2001.

He was born to Don and Pauline (Zey) Sims in Abilene, Kan., on Nov. 23, 1947, the second of eight siblings.

He earned his bachelor and master's degrees from Emporia State College in Kansas. He married " target="_blank">married Shawn (Dixon) Sims in Jackson on July 25, 1981.

He was first employed by Northwest Community College in Powell as director of admissions and veterans affairs in 1974. From 1986-88 he worked as director of admissions at Fort Hays State College in Hays, Kan., and returned to NWC where he was dean of students until 1998.

At the time of his death he was employed as Human Resource Director at First National Bank and Trust of Powell.

He coached little league baseball, was a member of Rotary and served on the board of directors of the Powell Valley Chamber of Commerce and the New Life Christian Fellowship.

Mr. Sims was also the District Representative of Ducks Unlimited and was involved with countless student activities, projects and programs at NWC. He was a passionate sportsman and antique collector. Above all, he was devoted to his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife Shawn, children Matt of Kansas City, Kan., Rebecca of Houston, Texas, and Erin and Andy of Powell, his mother Pauline of Abilene, Kan., sisters Donita Fitch of Boise, Idaho, and Beth Schaesteen of St. Louis, Mo., and brothers Tom of Salina, Kan, Jack of Newton, Dan of Abilene and Mike of Leavenworth, Kan.

He was preceded in death by his father Don and brother Ted.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Cabre Gymnasium on the NWC campus.

Visitation will be at St. Barbara's Catholic Church 5:30-7 p.m. Wednesday with a rosary to follow.

Marie Eloise Sell

Marie Eloise Sell, 69, died Monday, Aug. 6, at her home in Meeteetse.

She was born Nov. 17, 1931, in Sentinel Butte, N.D., the daughter of Henry Franzen and Nell Franzen Shepard. She married " target="_blank">married Marion Ted Sell in Thermopolis. He preceded her in death July 4.

Marie lived in Meeteetse about 45 years. She loved to fish and read. Marie loved her family, four grandchildren and husband of 41 years. She was an avid Denver Broncos fan. She and Ted always had some kind of ball game on television.

Marie is survived by children Lyn Sell of Billings, Dean (Mel) Sell of Meeteetse and Teddy (Samantha) Sell of Red Lodge, brothers Earl Franzen of Gillette and Maurice Franzen, sisters Irma Schaffer of Wibaux, Mont., Pearl Nelson of St. Cloud, Minn. and Cheryl Befus of Riverton, grandchildren Bobby and Julie Mielke of Cody, Aaron Sell of Casper, Amy Sell of Meeteetse and Cheyenne Sell of Red Lodge, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ted, son Donald and brothers Al, Jack and Clayton Franzen.

Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Meeteetse.

Those wishing may make memorial donations in Marie's memory to a charity of choice.

Austin Heath

Austin Teddy Lee Heath was born and died Aug. 1, 2001, at West Park Hospital.

He was the son of Jim and Kim Heath of Cody.

Austin is survived by his parents, sister Kyndal, brother Tristan, grandparents Jerry and Jamie Posey, and Doug and Mary Smith, great-grandparents Margaret Herman, Jim and Ida Hodson, Ted Heath of Utah and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother Patricia Posey, grandfather Ted Heath Jr., great-grandfather Carl Herman and great-grandmother Connie Heath.

Austin will always hold a special place in our hearts and lives. His short time on earth will be an eternal footprint and he will not be forgotten.

Graveside services were Aug. 7 at Riverside Cemetery.

Helen Josie Carter

Helen Josie Carter, 83, died Aug. 6, 2001, in Puyallup, Wash.

Helen was born to Josie and Maldon Boyer on Oct. 15, 1918, in Bridger, Mont, one of five children who enjoyed a beautiful life on the family homestead, which still exists.

She married " target="_blank">married George B. "Slim" Carter in 1940 and together they began a fruitful life in Cody.

Actively pursuing her love of people, Helen was involved in many organizations in the Cody community, serving in the Methodist choir, Willing Workers, Past Matron of Eastern Star, Cedar Chapter No. 14 and Past Noble Grand of Rebekah Lodge, Olive Branch No. 17.

She enjoyed her employment at City Hall, which enabled her to affect her community even more. Helen was a devoted wife, proud mother and grandmother and great-grandmother, hope-giver, servant and faithful friend. She was fighter. Despite physical difficulties, she greeted the day with the belief that each was a gift from God and should be lived fully.

She is survived by son Robert of Basin, daughter Linda Bond of Milton, Wash., brothers Loyd Boyer of Billings and Gordon Boyer of Bridger. She imparted loving memories to her grandchildren, Shelley McPherson of Puyallup, Teri and Tanya Carter of Palm Desert, Calif., Justin McGary of Vancouver, Wash., Lesli Bond of Michigan and Burl Bond of Tacoma, Wash., and great-grandchildren Ellie, Jared, Caleb, Amanda, Alex and Savannah.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband who died in 1967, mother, father, brother Kenneth Boyer of Bridger and sister Christine Westcott of Billings.

Her family will always hold her in the highest regard for her faithful devotion to them, God and her community. Her love and service was never withheld and given willingly to all who were part of her life.

A memorial service for Helen will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14, at United Methodist Church in Cody.

Margaret 'Maggie' Farman Newell

Margaret "Maggie" Farman Newell, 64, died Friday, Aug 10, 2001, at her home in Cody.

She was born May 15, 1937, the daughter of Paul and Margaret (Shillinger) Farman. She married " target="_blank">married Ralph D. Newell on Feb. 22, 1958, in Wyola, Mont.

A resident of Cody for 43 years, Maggie was a teacher in Park County School District until her retirement. She was a member of the PEO Sisterhood, the Retired Teachers Organization, First Presbyterian Church of Cody, a deacon at the Presbyterian Church, a member of the church's women's group and a BSF leader.

Maggie loved the mountains and wildlife and enjoyed going for rides and seeing wildflowers. She loved to travel and sightsee but, most of all, she loved her family, friends and Bible studies. She rejoiced in the Lord.

Survivors include her husband Ralph of Cody, daughters Nancy (David) Gilmore, and Suzie (Kelly) Myrick of Powell, son Brad (Cheryl) Newell of Wasilla, Alaska, brother Gary (Bonnie) Farman of West Palm Beach, Fla., sister Paula (Alex) Nayes of Forsyth, Mont., sisters-in-law, JoAn Wilson of Cody and Martha (Bob) Anderson of Moab, Utah, grandchildren Clayton, Ashlee, Alyssa, Matt, Mindy and McKenzi, great-granddaughter Natalie and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15, at First Presbyterian Church in Cody. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to Northwest College Foundation Scholarship Fund in Maggie's memory.

Joan E. Cole

Joan E. Cole, 82, died at West Park Hospital on Aug. 13, 2001, after suffering from Alzheimer's disease for 15 years.

She was born Jan. 19, 1919, in Greeley, Neb., to William and Margaret Mary Luse. Joan moved to Powell to live with her oldest sister Alyce shortly after their mother's death. She graduated from Powell High School in 1937 and worked for a lawyer in Gillette where she met Jack Cole.

When World War II began, Joan went to work for the office of the Attorney General in Cheyenne.

She and Jack married " target="_blank">married in Orlando, Fla., in June 1934. Soon after, Jack left for duty with the Eighth Air Force in England. After his return they moved to Riverton where they made their home until 1979 when they moved to Cody.

Joan devoted all her time to her family while the boys were growing. She loved literature and history, which she conveyed with great enthusiasm to her children. She also had a fascination with words, which she indulged by doing crossword puzzles nearly every day of her adult life. After the dementia of Alzheimer's gripped her, she would still cut out newspaper crossword puzzles and put them in her purse.

She was a long-time member of PEO in Riverton and Cody. She spent many pleasant hours as a docent at the Buffalo Bill Historical Center, working primarily on American Indian artifacts. She was named Volunteer of the Year in 1984.

Joan is survived by her husband Jack and sons Steve, Terry, Jon, eight grandchildren and one great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her nine siblings and son Ron.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held later.

Debbie Y. Wright

Debbie Yvonne Wright, 47, died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2001, at her home in Cody.

She was born Oct. 5, 1953, in Cody, the daughter of Kenneth and Deloris (Christensen) Smith. She attended schools in Cody and graduated from Cody High School. Debbie completed her college education in 1994 and was employed at Color World in Cody.

Debbie was a skilled seamstress and fantastic cook. She loved to cook for family parties and over the campfire. She made great jerky.

Debbie was artistic and enjoyed sketching, painting and making pottery. She also enjoyed playing the guitar. Debbie loved wildflowers and the outdoors. She was an accomplished ax-thrower and could shoot a musket with the best of them.

She had an impish sense of humor and knew and told the best jokes. Most of all, Debbie was a devoted daughter and a loving mother and sister. She will be missed by so many who loved her.

Survivors include daughters Dusty Wright of Cody, attending college in North Dakota, Brandi Wright of Wisconsin, mother Deloris Smith of Cody, brother Jerry Smith of Clark and sisters Janis Wright and Karole Anshutz, both of Cody.

She was preceded in death by her father.

A memorial service was Aug. 17 at Ballard Funeral Home.

Edwin Kuno Wilcken

Edwin Kuno Wilcken, 88, died at his home in Cody on Aug. 14, 2001.

He was born May 10, 1913, in Blue Grass Township, Iowa, to Kuno and Katie (Petersen) Wilcken.

Ed joined his father in farming after graduating from high school in Davenport, Iowa. He dedicated his life to working the land raising corn, potatoes, soybeans, pigs and cattle until selling his farming operation in his early 70s.

He enjoyed fishing and watching all kinds of wildlife. Ed was a dear companion and friend to his sister and others.

He is survived by his sister Wilma Nielsen of Cody, cousins Earl Wilcken, Raymond Petersen, Irvin Petersen and Norma Fahrenkrug of Davenport, and Delmar Brus, Melvin Brus and Vernon Brus of Walcott, Iowa.

Memorial graveside services were Friday at Riverside Cemetery.

Clara B. Severance

Clara B. Severance, 81, died Sunday, Aug. 19, 2001, at West Park Long Term Care Center.

Clara was born July 29, 1920, in Battle Creek, Mich., the daughter of Edward and Mary (Hardgrove) Arnett.

She married " target="_blank">married Lester Severance in Battle Creek. Clara worked as a clerk in the chemistry lab of North Dakota State University until her retirement. She moved to Cody seven years ago.

Until illness curtailed her activities, Clara enjoyed bowling, knitting and doing things for others.

She also enjoyed going places with her friends.

Survivors include a daughter Jean (Don) Bullock of Cody, grandchildren Steve Bullock of Cody, Bill Bullock of Red Lodge and Tara Bullock of Casper, sister Emma Osborn of Angola, Ind., brother-in-law Art Wilson and nieces and nephew Barb Freeland, Carol Hefernan, Annette Eckert and Don Wilson, all of Michigan.

Clara was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Margaret and brother Charles.

Graveside services will be Thursday, Aug 23, in Dowling, Mich.
