Lorraine Trythall

Long-time Cody resident Lorraine Trythall, 86, died Jan. 5, 2002, at West Park Hospital.

Lorraine, affectionately known to her family as "The General," dressed her troops one last time, snapped one out smartly and roared off to her next mission. What a gal!

Jack thought so and married " target="_blank">married her in 1937. Jacqueline came along two years later and Duane six years after that.

Lorraine and Jack ran The Big Scoop, a local hang out for high schoolers in the 1950s. As long as all behaved themselves, homework assistance, loans, advice and who was dating whom became regular fare on the menu.

Lorraine's teaching career spanned 38 years in Cody. Former students will recall the dread of being put in "ol' lady Trythall's class" because she was mean - she'd make you read.

Lorraine was an active member of the Does, Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile and Eagles. She developed the Lifeline program at West Park Hospital and the statewide Car Seats for Kids program.

The Depression had a lasting impact on this woman who wouldn't dare waste anything - including her time and attention.

Even so, she always drove a fine automobile and was spotted more than once shoveling snow in her black mink coat.
