She always went in style.

Family was always indulged, and there was no request too small and no sacrifice too great.

She was a woman of character and principle.

Services were Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church, and burial was at Riverside Cemetery with a reception following at her home.

Mary Elizabeth Bamford

Mary Elizabeth Bamford, 93, died Jan. 7, 2002, at West Park Long Term Care Center.

Mary was born March 5, 1908, in San Francisco, the daughter of Joseph and Paraska (Urchista) Paulik. She moved with her family to Kirby as a child and attended schools in Kirby and Thermopolis.

During World War II, Mary worked as a personal secretary for singer Francis Lingford and accompanied her on USO tours. She later worked for a newspaper in the Los Angeles area.

Mary married " target="_blank">married Joseph Bamford on Feb. 7, 1953, in Las Vegas, Nevada. The couple moved to Cody in 1979 and lived here for three years before relocating to Sun City, Ariz. They lived in Arizona until 1986 when they moved back to Cody.

Mary is survived by her husband Joseph Bamford of Cody, sister Rose Kauffman of Missouri and numerous nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place. Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 11, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church with Father Joseph Daley officiating. Interment of cremains will follow in Riverside Cemetery.

Elmer Herman 'Buck' Brummond

Elmer Herman "Buck" Brummond, 80, of Boise and formerly of Cody, died at his home in Boise on Jan. 3, 2002.

Buck was born Aug. 25, 1921, in Hankinson, N.D., to Julius and Minne Milbrandt Brummond.

He served in the Army during World War II and was stationed in Hawaii.

On Jan. 5, 1946, he married " target="_blank">married Carlos Ella Mae Armstrong in Billings. They raised five sons and one daughter.

Buck was an iron worker by trade. He and his family lived in many places throughout the Northwest and Canada while he worked on different construction projects. A few of the major projects he worked on include the John Day Dam in Oregon, Palisades Dam in Idaho and the Long Spruce Dam in Manitoba, Canada.

Buck enjoyed hunting and fishing. He worked for a time at the Two Dot Ranch near Cody as a hunting guide. He was a ham radio enthusiast and had contacts throughout the world. He also liked to snowmobile and in his later years enjoyed traveling.

Buck is survived by sons Jay of Blackfoot, Idaho, Gene of Baltimore, Md., Gary of Twin Falls, Idaho, daughter Shelly (Mike) Neault of Ontario, Canada, brother Paul Odegarrd, sisters Leona Sheleny, Erma Brewer and Iona Burns, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Carlos, sons James and Terry and brothers Elroy and Morris.

Funeral services will be Friday, Jan. 11, in Blackfoot. The family will meet with friends one hour prior to services at Hawker Hill Funeral Home.

Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18.

Dona M. Settell

Dona M. Settell, 69, died of lung cancer, Jan. 12, 2002, in Cody.

Dona was a loving wife and mother. She loved people, music and dancing, crafts and camping in the mountains.

She was an employee of Wal-Mart for nine years, a member of the Clarks Fork Women's Club, a 4-H leader and lifetime member of Post 84 of the American Legion in Belfry, Mont.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years Leland Settell, sister Evelyn Walters of Wheatland, daughters Peggy (Rob) Poncelet and Gail (Jeff) Hinks, all of Cody, seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, at the VFW Post Home.

John A. Flood

John A. Flood, 72, died Jan. 8, 2002, at his Cody home.

He was born Sept. 17, 1929, in Park City, Mont., the son Ames and Dorothy Pratton Flood. John was raised in Park City and attended school there. During his senior year, he moved to Red Lodge with his family where he graduated from high school in 1947. He met and married " target="_blank">married June Cartwright in Roundup, Mont.

John served in the armed forces and following his discharge went to work for Roscoe Steel. He and June later moved to California where he worked for a time, returning to the area to work in Yellowstone Park. While there he was injured and unable to work for several months.

The family later moved to Billings where he worked for Marshall Wells. They moved to Cody where John was employed by Husky Oil for 32 years, retiring in the 1980s. In 1968, John and June purchased Chinook Kennels and continued to operate the kennels until his death.

He is survived by his wife June of Cody, daughter Deidra Williams of Cody, son Marshall Flood of Lovell, brother James Flood of Thermopolis, grandchildren Jesse Williams, Tiffany Woodward, Corrissa Williams, Lydell Flood and Adrian Flood, all of Cody, and great grandchild Kelly Woodward of Cody.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Samuel Flood.

Cremation has taken place. Private family services will be at Christ Episcopal Church with the Rev. Warren Murphy officiating.

Ruth M. Sheridan

Ruth M. Sheridan, 83, of Cody died Jan. 8, 2002, at Deaconess Hospital in Billings.

Ruth was born Dec. 13, 1919, in Johnstown, Pa. She lived with her aunt Hazel Wagner and grandparents Mr. and Mrs. William Wagner of Central City, Pa. Her mother was Melda Meyers Wagner and father was Clayton Wagner.

She remained in Johnstown during her youth, graduating from Johnstown High School in 1937.

She was widowed from Warren (Tucker) Clites on Sept. 15, 1943. After she moved to southern California she worked for the War Department at the "LTA" Lighter Than Air base in Tustin, Calif., as a base cryptographer. Her late husband was Myrl J. Sheridan, who died June 4, 1969. She lived in Tustin until seven years ago.

She is survived by sons Paul Sheridan of Rialto, Calif., and William Sheridan of Cody, sisters Ethel Griffith of El Monte, Calif., and Evelyn Ellis of Valley Center, Calif., brothers Glen Wagner of Indialantic, Fla., and David Wagner of Riverside, Calif., and grandchildren Philip, Elizabeth and Brennan Sheridan.

The family notes the care and comfort provided by the West Park Hospital Dialysis Unit to Ruth during her seven years in Cody.

A memorial service will be Saturday, Jan. 26, at 2 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 3401 Sheridan.

Stan Lee Jackson

Stan Lee Jackson, 46, died at his home Jan. 8, 2002.

Stan was born Aug. 7, 1955, in Cody to William and Alberta Engel Jackson.

He grew up on the family farm on Heart Mountain. He loved the farm and always wanted to farm. He graduated from Powell High School in 1973 and went to Northwest College and received an associate of science degree.

On April 2, 1977, he and Lynn A. Bope were married " target="_blank">married in Powell. He was an active member of First Baptist Church, enjoyed golf, pheasant hunting and loved spending time with his family and friends.

Stan spent the last 26 years farming, following his sons in sports, and in later years enjoyed working with his sons on the farm.

He is survived by his wife Lynn of the family home, sons Shawn Jackson of Cody, Travis Jackson of Powell and Brian Jackson of Fort Collins, Colo., parents William and Alberta Jackson of Powell, brothers David (Kathy) Jackson of Houston, Texas, Steve (Kirsten) Jackson of Powell, Dan (Connie) Jackson of San Antonio, Texas, and Bill (Judy) Jackson of Helena, Mont.

Visitation was Saturday at First Baptist Church in Powell. Pallbearers were Gene Shuler, Wade Shuler, Ted Shuler, Mike Forman, Rick Asher and Roger Dunn.

Burial was in Crown Hill Cemetery.

Memorial contributions can be made to Camp Bethel, c/o First Baptist Church in Powell, or the Big Horn Basin Cancer Center in Cody.

Helen Janssen

Helen L. Janssen, 74, died Jan. 12, 2002, at her home in Cody.

Helen was born in the family home south of Akron, Colo., on April 25, 1927, to Hans and Alice Petre Knutzen. She attended public school in Akron and later worked for Alberta Implement Co. there.

She married " target="_blank">married Nevin V. Janssen on March 6, 1949. They lived in Sidney, Neb., where her husband worked for Marathon Oil until 1966 when he transferred to Cody.

Helen was a founding member of both the Cody Cupboard and Park County Alliance for the Mentally Ill. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was active in the church's WELCA and Circle organizations.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Robert, Lyle and Harold.

Survivors include her husband, daughter Gina (Marc) Taggart, sons Gary of Cody and Mark of Sacramento, Calif., brother Donald (Charlotte) Knutzen of Whittier, Calif., and sister Dorothy Burley of Akron.

Visitation at Ballard Funeral Home will be 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery.

The family requests donations in Helen's memory be made to Cody Cupboard or Spirit Mountain Hospice/Home Health Services.

Edith Thelma Ballard Evert

Edith Thelma Ballard Evert, 84, of Orem, Utah, died Jan. 9, 2002, at Orem Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following pneumonia.

She was born Jan. 4, 1918, in Foxworth, Miss., the daughter of William Washington and Amazon River Evans Ballard. She married " target="_blank">married Arthur Lawrence Evert June 2, 1937, in Corpus Christi, Texas. On June 29, 1937, their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake City Temple.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings throughout her life. She especially loved teaching children in primary. She was a wonderful mother and beloved grandmother. She loved to be busy and created many pieces of beautiful handwork.

She is survived by son Douglas Evert of Cody, daughters Carolyn (James) Briggs of Murray, Utah, Marianne (Ronald) Stamm of Syracuse, Utah, Diana (Charles) Tolson and Joyce (Robert) Rowberry, both of Orem, 39 grandchildren, 92 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, and sisters AnnLee McClendon of Fredrickburg, Texas, and Eva Rae Blair of College Station, Texas.

She was preceded in death by a son Lawrence Evert, whose remains were found in Vietnam and returned to the U.S. on Oct. 4, 2001, and by four brothers and three sisters.

Her funeral was Jan. 14 at the Timpview 5th Ward LDS Chapel in Orem. Interment was in the Provo Cemetery.

Edward Wise

Edward "Ed" Wise, 40, died Jan. 8, 2002, at his home in Wheatland.

Ed was born Dec. 4, 1961, in Sunbury, Pa., the son of Edward and Beverly Bingaman Wise. His early years involved several moves due to his father being a career Navy man.

Ed graduated from McGavock High School in Nashville, Tenn., in 1997. After graduation, he joined the Navy, serving 10 years as an electronics technician. He was discharged in 1989 and moved to Cody and then to Wheatland in 1990 to work for the Missouri Basin Power Project. He worked there 11 years as an instrument technician.

Ed was a life member of the National Rifle Association, a member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

He is survived by his parents Edward and Beverly Wise of Cody, sister Tracy (James) Apel of Casper, niece Chelsie Wise of Casper and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins in Pennsylvania, Virginia, North Carolina and Ohio.

Funeral services were Jan. 12 at the Platte Funeral Chapel in Wheatland with Pastor Denzil Mauk of the Wheatland Bible Church officiating. Cremation will follow and interment will be later in Riverside Cemetery.

Serving as honorary pallbearers were Jeanne Bullock, Paul Bullock, Scott Olson, Bob Buettner, Eric Sullivan, Joe Garnier, Dan Rohrbach, James Apel and all his friends.
