Philip Wells Robertson

Philip Wells Robertson, 67, died of cancer March 3, 2002, surrounded by loving family members in Flower Mound, Texas.

Mr. Robertson was born Sept. 8, 1934, to Preston W. and Jessie J. Robertson in Lovell.

He graduated from Lovell High School and attended Utah State University and Northwest College. In 1956 he married " target="_blank">married Kay A. Stone in the Salt Lake City Temple.

He earned his BA and MA degrees at the University of Wyoming, later doing post-graduate studies at Brigham Young University and the University of California-Berkeley. He began his teaching career at Star Valley High School in Afton.

In 1963 he moved his family to Cody where he taught until his retirement in 1990.

Along with his teaching career, he founded and directed Park County Youth Services. During his tenure as a teacher and counselor, Mr. Robertson was elected to the Wyoming House of Representatives where he served for three two-year terms.

"Phil and I were freshmen legislators in 1983," Gov. Jim Geringer said. "I remember Phil as a hard worker, being conscientious and with high integrity.

"His work lives on both in the good legislation he helped pass, and also in the young people he taught, because he took many of his experiences back to the classroom for the kids' benefit," Geringer added. "Phil's passing must be difficult for the family. They are in our prayers and we grieve with them in their loss."

During the busy years Mr. Robertson served in the Legislature, he enjoyed active participation in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He provided extensive community service, especially among young people.

His greatest joys of life were his role as husband, father and grandfather. He also enjoyed working in his flower and vegetable gardens, restoring the historic "Big White House" on the South Fork Highway, refinishing antique furniture, and traveling extensively in Europe, Mexico and throughout the U.S., the land he loved above all.

After raising their large family, Phil and Kay remodeled the family home on the South Fork into the Buffalo Bill Cody House Bed and Breakfast, which they operated for three years until declining health forced Phil into another retirement.

He and Kay relocated to a beautiful and comfortable home in Powell. Shortly thereafter a lifetime dream was realized when they spent one year in the People's Republic of China, where they taught the English language and American culture at Ocean University of Qingdao through the BYU Teachers' Program.

In September 2000 Phil and Kay moved to Flower Mound.

He is survived by his wife Kay, children Tamara (Sid) Petersen, Robin (John) Radle, Jacques, Rachel (Reuben) Wong, John, Heather, Sara Kreimeier and Joshua, grandchildren William and Elizabeth, Betsy, Thomas and Alex, Philip Wells Robertson III, Marissa, Ryan, Korey and Kasey, and Nicholas, sister Dixie (Ron) Moody, brothers Jeff (Annie), Rick (Bernie), Lance (Desiree) and Bruce (Sherry) Robertson, and a host of friends and relatives throughout the world.

Visitation will be 7-8 p.m. Friday at Ballard Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the LDS Church in Cody, 1407 Heart Mountain. Interment will follow at Byron Cemetery.
