Charles Stephens - 12/29/04

Memorial services for Charles Stephens, 75, will be at 1 p.m. Jan. 1, 2005, at Chuck's home in Gillette. All of Chuck's friends and family are encouraged to attend.

Mr. Stephens passed away Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004, at Campbell County Memorial Hospital in Gillette of complications from surgery.

Charles A. Stephens was born on Aug. 12, 1929, the son of James Dewitt and Ruth Ellen (Hill) Stephens in Marietta, Miss. He was raised and educated in Marietta. In 1958, he married Martha Joan Matkin in Detroit, Mich.. Three children were born of this union. Mr. Stephens worked for Chrysler Corporation in his earlier years and later moved to Prudenville, Mich., where he owned and operated a laundry mat, car wash and resort.

In 1973, he packed up the family and moved to Little Powder, Wyo., then to Recluse, Wyo., where he worked for McCullough Gas. In 1979, the family moved to Gillette, where he started the Security Program at the Campbell County Memorial Hospital until he retired. He moved to California, North Dakota then back to Gillette in 2002.

He loved hunting and fishing and had come to Wyoming for several years to hunt. He always had a smile for a stranger, a joke for a friend. He loved his family and life.

He is survived by his wife; his children, Keith Stephens of Tupelo, Miss., Kerry Stephens of Lake Isabella, Calif., Kyle Stephens of Baldwin, Miss., Leslie, Jeff and Mark Stephens, all of Gillette; his grandchildren, Eric, Kelly, Nick, Hayden, Billy Kyle, Bradley, Michael, Robert, Ashley and Hayley; one great-grandchild, Morgan; his brothers, Billy and his wife, Peggy, of Baldwin, Miss., Kenneth and his wife, Marge, of Tupelo; his sister, Dewdrop West, of Guntown, Miss.; and his dear friend, Tom Walker.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Cleburn.

Roger Hockett - 12/30/04

Memorial services for Roger Lee Hockett, 65, of Gillette will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gordon Harper of the Vineyard Christian Fellowship Church officiating.

Mr. Hockett died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004, at Campbell County Memorial Hospital of complications from multiple sclerosis.

He was born May 1, 1939, to Kenneth Allen and Lola (Allen) Hockett in Grand Island, Neb. When his mother died giving birth to him, he was adopted by his mother's brother and sister-in-law, Dorothy and Deloss Hockett.

After he graduated from Campbell County High School, he attended colleges in Casper and Billings, Mont.

Mr. Hockett entered the U.S. Air Force in 1958 and served as an airman 2nd class until his discharge in 1962.

On June 25, 1966, he married Irene Martinez in Gillette. The couple divorced in 1982.

He later married Sheila Kay Harvey on June 14, 1985, whom he met at Pioneer Nursing Home.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and sports.

Mr. Hockett is survived by five brothers and two sisters.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Randy Cross - 12/30/04

A memorial service for Tech Sgt. Randy Ray "Baron" Cross, 36, formerly of Gillette, were at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Swan-Law Cascade Chapel in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Mr. Cross died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2004, in Colorado Springs. Cause of death was not released.

He was born Feb. 26, 1968, in Great Falls, Mont., to Ken Cross and Linda Herman.

On Sept. 21, 1990, he married Laura Geng.

He was an electrical technician in the U.S. Air Force. He served for 18 years with assignments including Honduras, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Bosnia and Italy. He was proud of his service to the United States.

Mr. Cross is survived by his wife; brothers, Rick Cross and Lee Cross; his mother, Linda, and stepfather, Bill Cox; and his grandmother, Margaret Cross of Carlile.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Jean Stinson - 10/05/04

Funeral services for Jean B. Stinson, 91, of Spearfish, S.D., and formerly of Hulett, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Hulett Civic Center in Hulett with Deacon Kim Carroll officiating.

Burial will follow at Moore Hill Cemetery near Hulett.

Visitation will be one hour before the services.

Mrs. Stinson died Friday, Oct. 1, 2004, at the David M. Dorsett Health Care Facility in Spearfish.

She was born in Galax, Va., on Nov. 4, 1912, to Clyde and Mintie (Ballard) Roberts. At age 4, she moved with her family to a ranch near Hulett. She attended Elk Horn Country School north of Hulett.

On June 14, 1928, she married Henry Stinson in Rapid City, S.D. They lived on a ranch near New Haven for several years before moving to Upton. They lived there for a brief time.

In 1945 the couple bought a ranch near Hulett. In 1990, she moved into Hulett where she lived for 10 years before moving to Spearfish.

Mrs. Stinson loved gardening, crocheting, cooking, and visiting with her family and friends. She enjoyed feeding her guests and taking care of the animals on the ranch.

Survivors include three daughters Donna Gantz of Hulett, Wilma Danko and Norma Perry, both of Spearfish; four sons Jack Stinson of Brighton, Colo., Sam Stinson of Miles City, Mont., Jay Stinson of Rozet, and Russell Stinson of Hulett; one half brother, Henry Roberts of Upton; 24 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; one son in infancy; two grandsons; one great-grandson; three sisters; and two brothers.

A memorial has been established to benefit the Hulett Civic Center.

Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel in Spearfish is in charge of arrangements.

Emily Hibner - 01/04/05

Emily E. Hibner, 89, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2005, at her home in Gillette of natural causes.

Upon her request a private family prayer service took place Monday at Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home with the Rev. Peter Auer of Saint Matthew's Catholic Church as celebrant.

Burial will take place at a later date in Stanislaus Cemetery in Cheektowaga, N.Y.

She was born July 29, 1915, to Michael and Frances (Makowska) Majewicz in Buffalo, N.Y.

Mrs. Hibner is survived by one daughter, Emily M. Mentley of Gillette; one son, Stanley F. Bett of West Seneca, N.Y.; one sister, Alice Zamborowski of Buffalo, N.Y.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Raymond Hibner.
