Evelyn Blanch Wood - 01/07/05

Memorial services for Evelyn Blanch Wood, 95, the mother of several Gillette residents, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Sheridan with Bishop Richard Welch officiating.

Cremation has taken place in Sheridan.

Mrs. Wood died Monday, Jan. 3, 2005, in Sheridan of natural causes.

She was born in Sheridan April 15, 1909, to Olaf and Bertha (Miller) Nelson and raised on her father's ranch on Beaver Creek. She was one of the oldest living homesteaders.

She married Roy M. Wood on Aug. 23, 1934. They worked on the WS ranch at Wyarno before buying their own place south of Sheridan in 1945. In 1960, they bought a ranch in Clearmont. They worked the OX ranch raising registered Red Angus cattle.

Mrs. Wood is survived by one daughter; two sons, including McKinley D. Wood of Gillette; five foster children, including Georgia Rice and Richard Sickler, both of Gillette; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two sisters; and one brother.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in her name to the Child Advocacy of the Big Horns in care of Kane Funeral Home at 689 Meridian St., Sheridan, WY 82801.

Brett Cotton - 12/29/04

Brett Cotton, 43, of Gillette died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004, at his home.

Services are pending with Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home.

Lucille G. Russell - 12/28/04

Lucille Gwendolyn (Cornelison) Russell, 79, formerly of Gillette, died Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004, of natural causes at the Bonnie Bluejacket Nursing Home in Basin.

She requested no funeral services and cremation has taken place.

She was born on June 30, 1925, to Norman J. and Molly (Klahr) Cornelison in Casper and went on later to get a college degree. She then taught and worked with handicapped children.

She married Dan Barry and gave birth to twin girls in 1944. The couple later divorced.

On April 30, 1962, she married Stanley Louis Russell in Casper. Together they owned and operated Russell's Farm Dairy in Casper. They had a daughter and a son together.

In 1969, they sold the dairy and moved to Dixon and worked on her brother-in-law's ranch. In 1972, they moved to Morton and ranched there. They sold the farm and moved back to Casper.

After her husband died, she moved to Gillette.

Mrs. Russell is survived by her two daughters, Pam Jolley of Greybull and Melanie Graber of Gillette; son, Eddie Russell of Riverton; and a sister, Joan Clark of Casper; 14 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; one sister, Nita Chilcote of Denver; one daughter, Penny Clark of Denver; and two grandsons.

Lori Lynn Newlin /1-9-4

Funeral services for Lori Lynn (Cooper) Newlin will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the old high school gym in Sundance.

Burial will follow at Mount Moriah Cemetery in Sundance.

She died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2005, at the Crook County Memorial Hospital in Sundance of a heart attack.

She was born March 14, 1963, to James and Karen Cooper in Redfield, S.D. She moved to Sundance with her parents in August 1964, where she attended elementary and high school. She was involved in many extra-curricular activities such as band, choir, basketball, volleyball and cheerleading.

Mrs. Newlin started working her senior year at the Tri-County Electric and there for 23 years. She was in charge of the company golf tournament; Powder River Chili Feed and the football pools. She enjoyed her daily latte.

Her hobbies included golfing and watching her son, nieces and nephews play sports. She also looked forward to and enjoyed the cruises that sher and her husband took together.

She married Terry Newlin, Aug. 26, 1989. They had a son, Ryan, on Jan. 25, 1990. Her husband had a son, Jason, and a daughter, Michelle, from a previous marriage.

She enjoyed cooking for her family on the holidays and kept family traditions alive. She was good at dishes too, that's when the best stories were told. She had a sense of humor and had a litney of funny stories and comedy lines on life.

Mrs. Newlin is survived by her husband and son, both of Sundance; stepson, Jason Newlin of Castlerock, Colo.; step-aughter, Michelle Wentz of Powell; one brother, Jay Cooper of Sundance; two sisters, Monica Switzer of Richey, Mont., and Veronica Widoss of Spearfish, S.D.; her parents of Sundance; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are pending with Fidler-Roberts & Isburg Funeral Chapel of Sundance.

Viola Brittain /1-9-4

Former Sheridan resident Viola Brittain, 90, of Gillette died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2005, at the Campbell County Memorial Hospital.

Arrangements are pending Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home in Gillette.
