D. Victor Knight Sr.

D. Victor Knight Sr., 78, of Story and Vero Beach, Fla., died Dec. 19 at Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach. Mr. Knight maintained a residence in Story the past 22 years and belonged to Kalif Buckskin Horse Patrol in Sheridan. Services are today at First Baptist Church of Vero Beach. Born in Vero Beach, he served in the Air Force in the Korean War and was a lifetime resident of Indian River County, Fla. Mr. Knight was co-founder and president of Riverfront Groves for 47 years and reportedly the first person to introduce the Star Ruby Grapefruit to Florida. He was also longtime member and director of Indian River Citrus League; director and past president of Florida Citrus Packers; past president of Sealed Sweet Growers; director of United Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Association and Florida Fruit and Vegetable Association; member of the Florida Citrus Commission, Citrus Hall of Fame Selection Committee, and 100 Club; director of HESCO; former trustee for St. Edward's School; and lifetime member of Safari Club International. He received the first Outstanding Farmer Award from the Indian River County Jaycees. He was an accomplished pilot and hunted big game around the world. He belonged to First Baptist Church of Vero Beach since 1943; Mahia Temple Club of Miami; Vero Beach Masonic Lodge; Vero Beach Country Club; and Quail Valley Club of Vero Beach. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Wanda S. Knight; two sons, D. Victor Knight Jr. and Dan S. Knight, both of Vero Beach; two daughters, Paula K. Hindert and Audrey K. Richey, both of Vero Beach; a brother, C. Reed Knight Sr. of Ocala, Fla.; a sister, Francis K. Groth of Hendersonville, N.C.; eight grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorials may benefit Citrus Hall of Fame Fund, Florida Southern College, 111 Lake Hollingsworth Drive, Lakeland, FL 33801 or a charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements are with Strunk Funeral Home of Vero Beach.

Dr. Ray A. Braten

Longtime Buffalo dentist Ray A. Braten, 85, died Dec. 17, 2007, in Buffalo of complications from prostate cancer. Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Buffalo LDS facility with a reception to follow. A second ceremony will take place July 19 at the family homestead in Sunlight Basin, where his remains will be interred. Memorials may benefit Johnson County Healthcare Center in care of Adams Funeral Home, Buffalo.

Margaret Trentacosti

Services for Margaret E. Trentacosti, 87, Sheridan, will take place later with arrangements by Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Trentacosti died Dec. 18, 2007, in Westview Health Care Center. Born Feb. 29, 1920, in Chicago to Albert and Gertrude (Scholl) Vinke, she grew up and attended school in Chicago, graduating from Fenger High School. She worked as a telephone operator in New York and Chicago. She married John Trentacosti on July 20, 1947, in Chicago. He died in 1975, and Mrs. Trentacosti moved to Sheridan to take care of her father. A member of Calumet Village Presbyterian Church in Chicago, she was past president of American Legion Auxiliary Post 1156 in Calumet, Ill., and past president of Sheridan Does. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, sewing, playing cards, jelly beans, going to Deadwood, S.D., reading, crossword puzzles, and especially spending time with her family. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister. Survivors include four sons, Kenneth Trentacosti of Sheridan, John R. Trentacosti of San Francisco, Ronald Trentacosti of Carbondale, Ill., and Terry Trentacosti of Atlanta; two daughters, Caryle Rudolph of Sheridan and Barbara Vigoren of Kimball, Minn.; two sisters, Anne Mossberg of Homewood, Ill., and Lorraine Scobee of Spearfish, S.D.; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Memorials may benefit Sheridan Animal Shelter, 84 East Ridge Road, Sheridan, WY 82801.

Priscilla Rachel Slaybaugh

Priscilla Rachel Slaybaugh, 89, of Sheridan died Dec. 13, 2007, in Sheridan Manor. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church in Buffalo with the Revs. Joel Hendrickson and Rick Beld officiating. Visitation will be 1-9 p.m. Tuesday in Adams Funeral Home Chapel in Buffalo. Burial will be in Willow Grove cemetery in Buffalo with graveside services at 3 p.m. Wednesday. Mrs. Slaybaugh was born April 4, 1918, in Butte County, S.D., to Barney and Lydia Otterbein. The family moved to Crook County when she was a teenager. She married Clifford Slaybaugh in Gillette in 1940. They lived in Alva until 1944, when they moved to Buffalo. There, Mr. Slaybaugh worked for a lumber company and the city while Mrs. Slaybaugh was a homemaker and mother. Mr. Slaybaugh died in 1976. Mrs. Slaybaugh moved to Sheridan in January to be with her son and his family. She moved to Sheridan Manor in March. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, gardening, reading and sewing. She made many quilts and was a lifelong member of the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, a sister and a granddaughter. Survivors include two sons, Ivan of Buffalo and Ken of Sheridan; three daughters, Karen Cantrell of Bismarck, N.D., Nadine Skupa of Lincoln, Neb., and Chris Sherman of Gillette; one sister, Mary Lakso of Belle Fourche, S.D.; 12 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to St. Francis Animal Shelter in care of Adams Funeral Home, 351 N. Adams, Buffalo, WY 82834.

Darleen E. Anderson

Funeral services for Darleen E. Anderson, 79, of Sheridan will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Ward 2, with Bishop Roger Brinkerhoff officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Municipal cemetery. Viewing will be until 4 p.m. today at Kane Funeral Home. Mrs. Anderson died Dec. 11, 2007, in Sheridan Manor. She was born Feb. 5, 1928, in Topeka, Kan., to Benjamin E. and Vera May (Miles) Allgire. The family moved to Big Horn when she was 2 years old. She graduated from Sheridan High School and attended Heiman Business School. She married Everett H. Lohrbach in 1943; they divorced. She was married to Donald M. Cline from 1949 until 1963, when they were divorced. She married Robert W. Anderson in 1977; he died in 1994. Mrs. Anderson worked for CB&Q Railroad, U.S. Forest Service, Silver Spur Cafe and the Ritz Sporting Goods lunch counter. She also worked in the Sheridan VA Medical Center nursing home. In addition to her third husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, JoAnn Allgire and Marie Scheuer; a brother, Donald D. Allgire; and a grandson. Survivors include four daughters, Donna C. Lacy, Diana M. Cline, Denice M. Rollins and Darice E.M. Rollins, all of Sheridan; two stepdaughters, Kristy Lewis and Lisa Anderson, both of Sheridan; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Julius W. Pine Sr.

Mass of Christian Burial for Julius W. Pine Sr., 89, of Sheridan will be 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Name Catholic Church with the Revs. Ron Stolcis and Tom Ogg officiating. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. in Sheridan Municipal cemetery. Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. today at Kane Funeral Home. Mr. Pine died Dec. 9, 2007, in Sheridan VA Medical Center. He was born Feb. 10, 1918, to John and Julia Pine in Niles, Calif. He was a 1939 graduate of Washington High School in Centerville, Calif. While in high school, he was the only White Sweater winner, with four varsity letters in football and baseball in one year. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942 and served during World War II at Casper Army Air Base, Fort Robinson and in the European Theater. He received an Honorable Service button and a Victory medal and was honorably discharged in 1946. He married Mary I. Mancini on Aug. 24, 1947, at Holy Name Catholic Church in Sheridan. He was an avid golfer, a coin collector and enjoyed sports, fishing, hunting, spending time with his family and travel. He worked at a steel mill and, later, General Motors in California. The family moved to Sheridan in 1956 so Mr. Pine could become a partner with his brothers-in-law in Bino's Grocery Store. He retired in 1981. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Clarence, Lawrence and Weldon, and three sisters, Madeline, Margaret and Julia. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Julius W. Pine Jr. of Laramie and John D. of Sheridan; a daughter, Cathleen M. Tucker of Casper; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Memorials may be made to Holy Name School, 260 E. Loucks St., Sheridan, WY 82801, or to a recipient of the donor's choice.

Dean Condit Graves

BUFFALO - Dean Condit Graves, 88, of Buffalo died Dec. 11, 2007, in Amie Holt Care Center in Buffalo. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday in Adams Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dana Lohse officiating. Visitation will be 1-9 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday. Burial will be in Willow Grove cemetery with graveside rites. Memorials may be made to Hoof Prints of the Past Museum in Kaycee in care of Adams Funeral Home, 351 N. Adams, Buffalo, WY 82834.

Darleen E. Anderson

Viewing for Darleen E. Anderson, 79, of Sheridan will be 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday at Kane Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Ward 2, with Bishop Roger Brinkerhoff officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Municipal cemetery. Mrs. Anderson died Dec. 11, 2007, in Sheridan Manor. Memorials may be made to Lions Eye Bank, 2510 E. 15th St., Suite 6, Casper, WY 82609.

F.F. `Bunk' Huckins

F.F. Bunk Huckins, 95, of Broadus, Mont., died Dec. 10, 2007, in the Holy Rosary Health Care Center in Miles City, Mont. He was father of Phillip Huckins of Sheridan. Visitation will be 1-6 p.m. Friday at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Broadus. Funeral services with Masonic rites will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Powder River Congregational Church in Broadus. Private burial will be later. Mr. Huckins was born Jan. 16, 1912, in Pinto, Mont., to Charles F. and Leonora (Henning) Huckins. He attended Huckins Country School on Bay Horse Creek and Custer County High School. During the 1930s, he sheared sheep in Montana and California, later returning to the family ranch, where he lived until 2004 when he moved to Miles City because of his health. He married Floreine Linville on Nov. 26, 1943, in Miles City. He was a member of Powder River Lodge 135 A.F. & A.M., a life member of the National Rifle Association, and the Margaret Trautman Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. He was a Powder River County commissioner from 1950 to 1956 and again from 1980-1986. He was also a member of the Powder River County Republican Committee, the Henry Malley Memorial Library board, and the rural school district board. An avid reader, he enjoyed taking care of his livestock, playing card games such as 500 or pinochle, and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his wife in 2000; two sisters, Carrie Geer and Gladys Geer; and four brothers, William Dutch, Charlie Irish, Clifford Swede, and Lloyd Cub. Survivors include two other sons, Gary of Miles City and Floyd of Broadus; a daughter, Connie Welsh of Helena, Mont.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Henry Malley Library or a charity of the donor's choice.

Julius W. Pine

Julius W. Pine, 89, of Sheridan died Dec. 9, 2007, in Sheridan VA Medical Center. Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Kane Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Name Catholic Church with the Revs. Ron Stolcis and Tom Ogg officiating. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. in Sheridan Municipal cemetery. Memorials may be made to Holy Name School 260 E. Loucks St., Sheridan, WY 82801 or to a recipient of the donor's choice.

Charley Sherman `Sarge' Winscot Sr.

No services are planned for Charley Sherman Sarge Winscot Sr., 89, of Sheridan. Burial will be later in Oregon Trail State Veterans cemetery in Evansville. Mr. Winscot died Dec. 7, 2007, in Sheridan VA Medical Center Hospice of cancer. He was born June 29, 1918, in Omaha, Neb., to Sherman Richard and Loda Leona Winscot. He married Louise Smith on June 15, 1938, in Coalville, Utah. They were divorced. He married Johniev Pet Trollinger on July 11, 1953, in Fort Worth, Texas. He served with the Army in World War II and Korea as a staff sergeant, receiving medals including a Purple Heart in each war, a Silver Star and a Bronze Star. He flew the flag that his mother gave him on every holiday. He and his second wife lived in several cities, including Ketchikan, Alaska, Casper, Riverton, Shoshoni, Lander and Jeffrey City as well as Sheridan. He worked as a farmer, ranch hand, miner, powder man, mechanic, millwright, fishing guide and machinist. He was an early stunt double for Gene Autry under the name Chuck North, as well as a boxer and pilot who built his own float plane. An outdoorsman, he enjoyed snowmobiling, hunting, fishing, and spending time with his bird-hunting border collie, Echo. He also enjoyed buying used fishing equipment and bicycles at garage sales to refurbish and give to neighborhood children. He and Johniev Winscot spent many days at Lake DeSmet and Boysen Reservoir. He was preceded in death by a twin sister, Charlotte Ermin Winscot, who died at birth; another sister, Lois North; and three brothers, Ed and Earl North and Martin Shomshor. Survivors include his wife; four sons, Douglas of Puyallup, Wash., Charley Jr. of Rigby, Idaho, Daniel of Glendale, Ariz., and Raymond of Lakewood, Wash.; a sister, Hattie Sowers of Casper; a brother, Robert of Omaha; and several grand-, great-grand- and great-great-grandchildren. He asked that memorials be in the form of taking a child fishing and flying the U.S. flag every holiday.

Mary Ann J. McEdward

Mary Ann J. McEdward, 78, of Sheridan died Dec. 7, 2007, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Cremation has taken place, and no services are scheduled at this time. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mrs. McEdward was born Feb. 4, 1929, to Earl and Janet Lamb in Detroit. She married Conrad McEdward on Sept. 21, 1958, in San Diego. She worked as a special education teacher in the Reseada, Calif., school district for many years. She enjoyed arts and crafts and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Brad Richard Guyer. Survivors include her husband; four children, Penny Church of Burbank, Calif., David Guyer of Grants Pass, Ore., Susan McEdward of Lakeport, Calif., and William McEdward of Sheridan; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Ralph R. `Bud' Cover

A gathering for family and friends of Ralph R. Bud Cover, 82, of Sheridan is planned for the spring, with date and time to be announced. Mr. Cover died Dec. 1, 2007, at his residence. Cremation has taken place, and arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mr. Cover was born Oct. 4, 1925, in Thermopolis to Ralph E. and Pearl V. (Duryea) Cover. The family homesteaded on Copper Mountain outside Thermopolis. Mr. Cover attended schools in Thermopolis and joined the Navy after graduating from high school. He served aboard the USS Denver during World War II from 1943-46. He was aboard the USS Denver when it fired the opening shots at Leyte for recovery of the Philippines. He married Esther Severance on Oct. 27, 1982. He lived in the Dayton/Ranchester area for many years and was co-owner and later owner of Western Signs and Custom Signs in Sheridan. An avid painter of landscapes and wildlife, he enjoyed horses, hunting and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by a sister, Judy, and a stepson, Michael. Survivors include his wife; a son, James of Cody; a daughter, Jeanette of Columbia, Ill.; stepchildren Holly Gupten of Dayton, Dennis McCarthy of Tucson, Ariz., Terry McCarthy of London, Kay McCarthy of Las Vegas, Patrick McCarthy of Lexington, Ky., Carole Wagner of Ranchester, and Gary King of Sheridan; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Big Horns, 1401 W. Fifth St., Sheridan, WY 82801.

Richard V. `Dick' McLane

Richard V. Dick McLane, 74, of Cheyenne died Nov. 21, 2007, in Cheyenne. He was brother of Shirley Weber of Sheridan. Cremation was at Schrader's Sunset Park Crematory, and memorial services were Nov. 28 in Schrader Chapel. Mr. McLane was born May 6, 1933, in Worland to Verne and Mary (Clark) McLane. He married Yvonne A. Coulson on July 27, 1958, in Worland. She preceded him in death. He was a salesman at several plumbing supply companies. He was a veteran of Korea, serving in the Army National Guard. He belonged to Masonic Lodge 2 in Lander and the Methodist Church. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Thelma Lungren. Another sister, Dorothy Tidemann of Cody, died a few days after Mr. McLane. In addition to his sister, survivors include two sons, Terry and Tracy; a daughter, Tia; and five grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Davis Hospice Center in Cheyenne.

Dorothy M. Tidemann

Dorothy M. Tidemann, 80, of Cody died Nov. 27, 2007, near Shoshoni of natural causes while en route to her brother's funeral in Cheyenne. She was sister of Shirley Weber of Sheridan. Funeral services were Monday in Riverview Memorial Gardens cemetery in Worland with arrangements by Veile Mortuary of Worland. Mrs. Tidemann was born July 28, 1927, in Lander to Verne Loyal and Mary Irene (Clark) McLane. The family moved to Worland when she was a child, and she attended schools there. She was a 1945 graduate of Washakie County High School and was active in band during her high school years. She worked for J.C. Penney's as a clerk for several years. She married Carlyle Jack Tidemann on March 10, 1948, in Worland. They later lived in Lander and Big Piney. Mr. Tidemann died in 1986, and Mrs. Tidemann returned to Worland to be near a sister. The sisters moved to Powell in 2001, then in 2005, Mrs. Tidemann moved to Absaroka Assisted Living in Cody. A member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Worland, she was a seamstress whose work won numerous ribbons at local fairs, and she enjoyed reading. She was preceded in death by a sister, Thelma Lungren, and a brother, Richard McLane. In addition to her sister, survivors include numerous nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, File 30947, P.O. Box 60000, San Francisco, CA 94160.

Leslie L. Godley

Funeral services for Leslie L. Godley, 88, of Sheridan will be 10 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church in Castle Rock, Colo., under direction of Olinger Andrews Caldwell Gibson Mortuary. Burial will be in the Elizabeth (Colo.) cemetery. Mr. Godley died Dec. 2, 2007, in Westview Health Care Center in Sheridan. Local arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Born Jan. 11, 1919, in Guymon, Okla., to J.B. and Eva Godley, he attended school in Elizabeth and received his bachelor's degree from the University of Colorado. He married Martha Froneberger on June 10, 1945, in Charlotte, N.C. He was a former rancher, farmer, dairyman, teacher and business owner. After retiring in Colorado, he and Mrs. Godley spent their winters in Mesa, Ariz. They moved to Banner in 1997. Survivors include his wife; a son, Jay of Banner; two daughters, Barbara Daugherty of Sheridan and Sandra Peif of Centennial, Colo.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson. Memorials may be made to Sheridan Senior Citizens Center, 211 Smith St., Sheridan, WY 82801.
