Genevieve Rains

Former Sheridan resident Genevieve Rains, 90, of Tillamook, Ore., died April 10, 2008, in Portland, Ore., according to her family. She was born Oct. 7, 1917, in Groom, Texas. She married Leon Rains. They lived in Decker, Mont., until 1949, when they moved to Sheridan. They lived in Sheridan until 1975, when they moved to Tillamook. She was preceded in death by her husband. Survivors include two sons, Alvin of Reno, Nev., and Lester Bud of Austin, Texas; a daughter, Doris Rains of Portland; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Murilyn Lee Kagel

Former Sheridan resident Murilyn Lee Kagel, 69, of Laramie died April 16, 2008, at his residence after a battle with cancer, according to his family. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. April 26 in the Laramie cemetery followed by a celebration of his life at 10:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 1517 Canby St., in Laramie. Mr. Kagel was born July 5, 1938, in Mobridge, S.D., to Howard and Orvilla (Deno) Kagel. The family moved to Laramie when he was a child, and he attended elementary through high school there. He worked with his father in the masonry business as a young man. He joined the Army in 1958, then served with the 1022nd Engineers unit with the National Guard when he returned from active duty. He spent seven years with the National Guard. He married Beverly Gilbert on April 25, 1960. He was recalled to active duty during the Berlin crisis in 1961. During this time, he received the Army Sharp Shooters medal. After returning from service, he began a lifelong career in highway and mine construction. He helped build Interstate 80 past Arlington and Elk Mountain and worked for Peter Kiewit & Sons for 25 years. He enjoyed taking his children hunting, fishing and camping, teaching his grandchildren to fish, playing dice, fishing and rock-hunting trips with friends, and summer trips to Deadwood, S.D., with his family. He was a member of the Eagles for more than 10 years. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Rick and Kevin; a daughter Sue (Kagel) Meredith; a brother, Ron of Laramie; two sisters, Jerrie Rippetoe of Great Falls, Mont., and Carol Iiams of Lander; two granddaughters; and two step-grandchildren. Donations may be made in his name to First Baptist Church or the hospice, both of Laramie.

Eula `Mae' Anderson

Graveside services for Eula Mae Anderson, 79, of Sheridan and Buffalo will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Willow Grove cemetery in Buffalo with the Rev. Tom Saur officiating. Mrs. Anderson died April 13, 2008, in Sheridan Manor. Cremation has taken place under direction of Kane Funeral Home. She was born July 20, 1928, in Cheyenne to Lola Lorraine and Glen A. Ayres. She began working at age 14, breaking horses for area ranches. She later was farm matron at the Wyoming Girls School in Sheridan and drove a taxi. She started the first culinary union in Casper. She married Clinton Andy Anderson on June 26, 1954, in Sheridan. They were the last operators of the Sundown Cafe in Sheridan. They bought the Lariat Cafe in Buffalo in 1959 and operated it until the 1970s. Mrs. Anderson worked for several restaurants in Buffalo until she retired. She was preceded in death by her husband; a sister, Helen Morris; and a brother, Martin Ayres. Survivors include two children, Jeri Sheperd of Sheridan and Steve Anderson of Ten Sleep; two brothers, Daniel and Gaylord Ayres, both of Las Vegas; two sisters, Jean Rose of Alliance, Neb., and JoAnn Bybee of Gillette; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

James Lee Moore

James Lee Moore, 47, of Worland died April 11, 2008, from cardiac complications. He was father of Travis Moore of Sheridan. Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. today at St. Mary Magdalen's Catholic Church in Worland. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the church with the Rev. Jim Heiser officiating. Arrangements are with Bryant Funeral Home in Worland. Mr. Moore was born April 1, 1961 in Dickinson, N.D., to Jesse J. and Marlene A. (Martin) Moore. The family moved to Worland in 1964. Mr. Moore attended St. Mary Magdalen's Catholic School until fifth grade. He was a 1979 graduate of Worland High School. He played football in high school and drove a school bus for three years. He received a football scholarship to Snow College and played two years for the Badgers. He earned a degree in welding in 1981. After college, he worked in the oil fields for Leonard Pierce and Exeter Oil Co. in Worland. He also worked for LK trucking and, in 1987, started 3 J's Welding with his father and brother. In 2003, he purchased Goose's Liquor and was also part owner of the Big Horn Bar in Ten Sleep. In recent years he farmed and raised horses at the Iron Rose Ranch. He married Patricia Smith in 1985; they were divorced. He married Dru Bower on Oct. 8, 2005, in Worland. A member of the Elks Lodge and American Legion, he enjoyed snowmobiling, his cabin in the mountains, travel, golf, and his dog, Jake II. In addition to his son, survivors include his wife, daughter Danielle Earl, his parents, brother Jay and sister Jeralyn Frederick, all of Worland, and two grandchildren. Memorials may be made to James Moore Memorial, for a fund to be named later, in care of Bryant Funeral Home, P.O. Box 524, Worland, WY 82401.

Stanley McBride Plott

Stanley McBride Plott, 85, of Sheridan died April 11, 2008, at Sheridan VA Medical Center. At his request, no services are planned. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mr. Plott was born Dec. 27, 1922, in Acme to Joseph and Martha Plott. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1941 and served as a B-24 gunner during World War II. He graduated from the University of Wyoming in 1949 with a Bachelor of Science degree in law. He married Janette Fairbank on Feb. 21, 1947, in Laramie. He worked at several jobs, including insurance salesman, railroad crewman and alcoholism counselor. He also owned a ceramic shop. He enjoyed lapidary work, fly-tying, hunting, fishing and keeping up with global economics. He also liked dachshunds. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Maurice and Glenn. Survivors include his wife; his children, Diane Hawkins of Long Beach, Wash., Cynthia Misty Plott-Barbula and Lynne Skaggs, both of Sheridan, and Bruce of Evanston; and five grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Sheridan Dog & Cat Shelter, 84 East Ridge Road, Sheridan, WY 82801.

Phyllis L. MacCatherine

Memorial services for Phyllis L. MacCatherine, 87, of Sheridan will be 11 a.m. May 31 in First Congregational United Church of Christ with the Rev. Bob Miller officiating. Burial of cremains will be in Sheridan Elks cemetery under direction of Kane Funeral Home. Mrs. MacCatherine died April 9, 2008, in Westview Health Care Center. She was born May 9, 1920, in Rochester, Minn., to John and Anna Olson. She graduated from high school in Mitchell, S.D., then moved to Sheridan with her sister. She married Frederick Ridle; they were divorced. She married C.H. MacCatherine on Dec. 29, 1952. She worked as a dental assistant to R.A. Carroll for 25 years. She was preceded in death by her husband and her sister, Charlotte. Survivors include two daughters, Jane Adams and Anna Sparks; three stepchildren; six grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to First Congregational United Church of Christ, 100 W. Works St., or to Meals on Wheels, 211 Smith St., Sheridan, WY 82801.

Jeanne Isham `Shirley' Scott

A celebration of the life of Jeanne Isham Shirley Scott, 74, of Dayton will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Scott Bicentennial Park in Dayton. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mrs. Scott died April 10, 2008. Cremation has taken place. She was born July 4, 1933, in Wray, Colo., to George and Ruth Isham. She grew up in Wray and attended Colorado State University. She married Dan Scott, and they ranched on the Tongue River east of Ranchester before moving to their home near Dayton. Mrs. Scott spent nearly 35 years, until her health forced her to retire, driving from the Padlock Ranch to Sheridan to pick up parts, supplies and groceries needed by the ranch. She was a volunteer member of many organizations and enjoyed the company of her guard dog, Brie. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Randy of Billings and Ron of Sheridan; three daughters, Riki Davidson of Parkman, Risa Scott of Orange, Calif., and Trink Morss of Dayton; seven grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Tongue River Valley Community Center or Sheridan Dog & Cat Shelter.

Earl M. `Bud' Lewis

Sheridan-native Earl M. Bud Lewis, 73, of Westminister, Colo., died March 14, 2008, in St. Anthony's Central Hospital in Denver after a long illness. Services were in St. Mark's Catholic Church in Westminister. Burial was in Fort Logan National cemetery in Denver with military honors by the U.S. Army. Mr. Lewis grew up in Sheridan. He was a graduate of Holy Name and Sheridan High schools. He served with the Army on the Panama Canal during the Korean War. He worked 40 years as an engineer with Gates Rubber Co. of Denver. Survivors include his wife, Barbara; four children; a sister, Lynn Baccari of Sheridan; and seven grandchildren.

Delores J. Briscoe

Delores J. Briscoe, 73, Sheridan, died April 9, 2008, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. No services are planned. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Born May 2, 1934, in Harrison, Neb., to Alfred James and Wilhamina Anna (Thayer) Pullen, she grew up and attended school through ninth grade in Harrison and later earned her General Equivalency Diploma. She married David Pete Briscoe on June 18, 1949, in Harrison. She was a homemaker and owner of an upholstery shop and Briscoe Auctioneering Sales. She also was a rehabilitation trainer for RENEW in Sheridan, a counselor with Piedmont Psychological Practice and Thunderbird Treatment Center, and had worked at the Branding Iron Cafe in Dayton. In later years she was a senior companion at Sheridan Senior Center. She was a 4-H leader for 15 years in Manville, a participant in the Legend of the Rawhide Pageant in Lusk, president of Dayton School Benefit Club, and an organizer and participant in Dayton Fire and Rescue Auxiliary. She also helped beautify Dayton cemetery. She enjoyed sewing, baking, cooking, card playing, and bingo. A son and a granddaughter preceded her in death. Survivors include her husband of Dayton; a son, Roy Briscoe of Rio Rancho, N.M.; a foster son, David Stallman of Sheridan; a daughter, Ronda Briscoe of Sheridan; four sisters, LaDonna Foley of Dayton, Bertha Farrington of Torrington, Caroline Riggs of Parkman, and Betty Murray of Alliance, Neb.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Memorials may benefit Sheridan Senior Center, 211 Smith St., or the Dog and Cat Shelter, 81 East Ridge Road, Sheridan, WY 82801.

Joseph M. Krezelok

Joseph M. Joe Krezelok, 91, Greybull, brother of Margaret Ellenwood of Banner, died April 9, 2008, at Washakie Medical Center in Worland. Viewing is 5-7 p.m. today at Atwood Family Chapel in Greybull with rosary following at 7 p.m. Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Greybull, the Rev. Michael Ehiemere officiating. A graveside service follows at Hillside cemetery in Greybull with Greybull Elks Lodge officiating, followed by a reception at Greybull Elks Lodge. Born March 7, 1917, on a Piney Creek ranch near Sheridan to Michael Joseph and Hedwik (Rucki) Krezelok, he grew up near Sheridan and attended Stone School on Piney Creek. He married Helen Marylin Wolney on June 22, 1941, in Monarch. They moved to Greybull, where Mr. Krezelok worked 37 years for Burlington Northern Railroad, retiring in 1978. He served many years as a trustee of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He also belonged to Knights of Columbus, Greybull Elks Lodge, and Basin Eagles. He enjoyed playing cards, walking, gardening, fishing, hunting, the Big Horn Mountains, calling bingo for the lodges, and spending time with his grandsons. He and his wife traveled extensively, including to all 50 states. He was known for his willingness to help. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jeannine Septer; four sisters, Anne Fairbank, Hedwik and Mary Miech, and Helen Slater; and two brothers, Frank and Mike Bill Krezelok. In addition to his sister, survivors include his wife; a daughter, Joan Krezelok of Casper; two grandsons; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorials may be sent to Big Horn Federal Savings Bank, P.O. Box 471, Greybull, WY 82426.

Edward Lee `Ed' Husman

Sheridan native Edward Lee Ed Husman, 76, of Worland died April 9, 2008, in Washakie Medical Center in Worland following a lengthy battle with multiple sclerosis. Cremation has taken place, and a memorial service will be 3 p.m. Saturday in First Presbyterian Church in Worland with the Rev. Andrea Hinderaker officiating. Cremains will be scattered in the summer. Arrangements are with Veile Mortuary of Worland. Mr. Husman was born Sept. 30, 1931, in Sheridan to Oscar E. and Rose M. (Peril) Husman. The family moved to Belen, N.M., when he was 6 years old, and he grew up and graduated from high school there. He attended college for two years in Albuquerque, N.M. He began a career in radio broadcasting in 1949 in Dalhart, Texas. He returned to Sheridan in 1952. He married Marilyn M. Truitt on June 6, 1954, in Sheridan. He was drafted into the Army in 1955 and served until 1959. While in the Army, he became an electronics instructor and worked on the Nike missile projects in New York and at Fort Bliss, Texas. The family moved to Worland, where he worked for KWOR Radio for a year, then moved to Cody in 1962. While in Cody, Mr. Husman was an announcer and technician for KODI Radio as well as a Little League coach. He moved to Rawlins 1974 and worked as manager of KRAL Radio. He was president of Rawlins United Way for several years. The Husmans returned in 1982 to Worland, where he worked for KWOR/KENB. Mr. Husman and his wife operated a candy and tobacco store, Center Stage, in the old Kerby theater building for 12 years. Mr. Husman was a member of First Presbyterian Church, was church choir director for a number of years, and served as a church deacon. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, flying airplanes, racing cars and building wooden doll houses and toys for his grandchildren. He had played trumpet in several local bands. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter and a son, Kenneth Rick Husman, in 2003. Survivors include his wife; a son, William Perry Husman of Valencia, Calif.; two daughters, Vikki Lynn Williams of Valencia and Karen Kay Williamson of Weslaco, Texas; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church Elevator Fund, P.O. Box 53, Worland, WY 82401-0053.

Ralph Fay Green

Sheridan native Ralph Fay Green, 89, of Florence, Mont., died April 6, 2008, at his residence. A celebration of his life will be 2 p.m. April 26 at the family residence on Sun Valley Road. Participants are asked to bring Ralph stories or e-mail stories to Gaylord@aol.com for inclusion, according to his family, which is handling arrangements. Mr. Green was born July 24, 1918, in Sheridan. He attended Meade Creek Elementary School and was a 1936 graduate of Sheridan High School. Shortly after graduation, he went to work on the CB&Q Railroad as a brakeman. He was later promoted to conductor. He served in Okinawa and Korea during World War II as a staff sergeant. He moved to Montana in April 1948 and purchased a ranch, the Broken Heart, which he operated as a dude ranch and hunting lodge. He began raising shorthorn cattle in 1956 in Superior, Mont., and served as local veterinarian and taxidermist. He married Donna Blum Jayne Green on Feb. 20, 1961, in Sheridan. He bought the Sweet Rest Motel in Missoula, Mont., in 1966. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing and horses. His motel featured many North American game trophies, including a 10-foot Kodiak brown bear, which Mr. Green or members of his family had taken in hunting and which were mounted by Mr. Green. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Wayne and Carl, both of Sheridan, and two sisters. Survivors include his wife; children Gaylord Green, Shirley Cannon, Tim Green, Terry Wayman, Todd Green, Quayne Green and Kimbra Green; two sisters, Lenora and Mary; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Mary Lou Kober

Funeral services for Mary Lou Kober, 75, of Sheridan will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church with the Rev. William Heine officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Municipal cemetery under direction of Kane Funeral Home. Viewing is 6-8 p.m. Mrs. Kober died April 4, 2008, in Billings. She was born March 15, 1933, in Rozet to Dan and Alma Brennan and graduated from nurse's training at St. Vincent's Hospital in Billings. She married Roland Kober in 1957 in Billings. They later moved to Sheridan. Mr. Kober died in 1998. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Lawrence Brennan. Survivors include two sons, Michael of Billings and Mark of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a daughter, Cheryl Stringer of Buffalo; a sister, Patricia Zimmerman of Cheyenne; four brothers, James and Dennis Brennan, both of Sheridan, Jerry Brennan of Taviona, Utah, and Robert Brennan of Portland, Ore.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to: St. Matthew's Church, 1000 Butler Spaeth Road, Gillette, WY 82716; Trinity Lutheran Church, 537 Grand Ave., Billings, MT 59101; or Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1300 W. Betty Alice Kuzara

Betty Alice Kuzara, 87, of Sheridan died April 5, 2008, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Name Catholic Church with the Rev. Thomas Ogg officiating. Burial will be in the Elks Section of Sheridan Municipal cemetery. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home.

Della M. Kaufman

Funeral services for Della M. Kaufman, 90, of Sheridan will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Grace Baptist Church with the Rev. Steve Anderson officiating. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mrs. Kaufman died April 1, 2008, at her residence. She was born June 13, 1917, to Marshall and Martha Mitchell. She married William Kaufman on Sept. 20, 1936, in Hardin, Mont. They retired in Dayton in 1975. Mrs. Kaufman was a school cafeteria manager for more than 20 years. She enjoyed cooking and was a member of Grace Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband and a sister, Janeva Chapline. Survivors include a son, David of Sheridan; a daughter, Muriel Bowen of Denton, Texas; two brothers, Chuck and Kenneth Mitchell of Sheridan; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Big Horns, 1401 W. Fifth St., Sheridan, WY 82801.
