BUFFALO - Logan E. Billman, infant son of Rebecca and Tom Billman of Buffalo, died May 9, 2008, in St. Vincent's Medical Center in Billings. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Adams Funeral Home Chapel in Buffalo with the Rev. Walt Widdis officiating. Burial will be in Willow Grove cemetery with graveside rites. Visitation will be 1-8 p.m. Wednesday and 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel. Memorials may be made to Faith Trees in care of Adams Funeral Home at 351 N. Adams in Buffalo.

Daisy M. Williams

Funeral services for Daisy M. Williams, 86, of Sheridan will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Sheridan Wesleyan Church with David Asbury officiating. Burial will be in Dayton cemetery under direction of Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Viewing will be 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Williams died May 9, 2008, in Sheridan Manor. She was born March 1, 1922, in Selmer, Ark., to Thomas and Zillie (Bell) Cantrell. She grew up in Arkansas and Tennessee. She moved to the Sheridan area from Jackson, Tenn., in 1946 and worked for a dry cleaning business. She married Elmer Williams in 1948 in Hardin, Mont. They resided in Sheridan. Mr. Williams died in 1976, and Mrs. Williams went to work at Memorial Hospital as a housekeeper for 14 years. She worked for Home Health Care until she retired. She enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening, growing flowers, reading, dancing and being with her family. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Dorothy and Lily; a son, Noah; a stepson, Roy; three brothers, William, Buster and Hollis; and a sister, Myrtle. Survivors include a son, Larry of Huntsville, Ala.; three daughters, Susie Smith of Camden, S.C., Margaret Gwathney of Tulsa, Okla., and Rose Crow of Casper; a sister, Francis Ballard of Chicago; 28 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Sheridan Dog & Cat Shelter, 84 East Ridge Road, Sheridan, WY 82801.

Gladys Newbrough

Graveside services for former Sheridan resident Gladys Newbrough, 86, of Torrington will be 10 a.m. in Sheridan Municipal cemetery with the Rev. Don Derryberry officiating. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mrs. Newbrough died May 9, 2008, in Torrington. She was born Sept. 15, 1921, in Ardmore, S.D., to Lawrence and Mary Ann Hume. She attended college in Chadron, Neb., and received her teaching certificate. She married Loyd Newbrough in 1945. She enjoyed tending houseplants and being with her family. She was preceded in death by her husband and a brother, Roland Hume. Survivors include two sons, Marvin of Sheridan and Harold of Rawlins; two sisters, Joy Novakovich of Torrington and Clarice Waltman of Sun City, Ariz.; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Clyde Olen Clawson Jr.

BUFFALO - Former Buffalo resident Clyde Olen Clawson Jr., 31, of Riverton died suddenly May 3, 2008, of natural causes. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday in Adams Funeral Home Chapel in Buffalo with the Rev. Bob McHenry officiating. Visitation will be 1-9 p.m. Wednesday and 8:30-9:30 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel. Private interment services will be in Willow Grove cemetery. Memorials may be made in Mr. Clawson's memory to St. Francis Animal Shelter in care of Adams Funeral Home at 351 N. Adams in Buffalo.

Jeremy G. Sikkenga

Memorial services for Jeremy G. Sikkenga, 29, of Sheridan will be 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Kenneth Doolin officiating. Inurnment of cremains will be later in Sheridan Memorial cemetery under direction of Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Sikkenga died May 6, 2008, at his residence. He was born Oct. 1, 1978, in Havre, Mont., to John and Sheila (Ausen) Sikkenga. He graduated from Sheridan High School, where he was a member of the swim team and a Christian youth group. After high school, he worked at several jobs until he became a drill hand at Kid Pronghorn. He enjoyed playing video games, writing poetry and being with his family. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a grandmother, Ruth Ausen, and a grandfather, Jim Balke. Survivors include his parents of Sheridan; two brothers, Nate of Gillette and Wesley of Sheridan; and his grandparents Glen and Helen Ausen of Laurel, Mont., and Lois Balke of Belgrade, Mont.

Jon Scott Hardesty

Sheridan native Jon Scott Hardesty, 48, of Black Eagle, Mont., died May 3, 2008, of complications from a construction accident in Geyser, Mont. A celebration of his life will be 2 p.m. today in the Rose Room of Croxford Funeral Home and Crematory in Great Falls, Mont. Cremation has taken place under direction of the funeral home. Mr. Hardesty was born Sept. 9, 1959, in Sheridan to Joel and Lila Hardesty. He attended Huntley Project Schools in Worden, Mont., where he was active in high school sports. He was a heavy-equipment operator. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, the company of his dog, Jackson, and hunting, camping and being outdoors. He married Leesa Jones in 1983. They divorced. He was preceded in death by his father and an infant brother, William. Survivors include a daughter, Joelyn Cotton of Indiana; two sons, Jonathan Hardesty of Great Falls and Josh Jones of Kentucky; his mother, Lila Fadrhonc; his stepmother, Carmen Hardesty of Arizona; four sisters, Susan Kautz, Margaret Maddock, Marylynn Stewart and Beth Huck; a stepsister, Debbie Alden; and several grandchildren.

Irene Winter Bock

Former Sheridan and Buffalo resident Irene Winter Bock, 90, of Plymouth, Minn., died May 4, 2008.
Visitation will be noon Thursday at Cremation Society of Minnesota in its Brooklyn Park (Minn.) Chapel. Mrs. Bock lived in Sheridan in 1972-73 before moving to Buffalo. Survivors include her children, Patricia Nali, Sandra Holter, Terry Winter and Sallie Stromquist; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association Minnesota-North Dakota, 4550 W. 77th St., Suite 200, Minneapolis, MN 55435.

Grace Ericksen

BUFFALO - Former Buffalo resident Grace Ericksen, 91, of Murray, Utah, died May 3, 2008, in Murray. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Buffalo with Bishop Sean Durrant officiating. Arrangements are with Adams Funeral Home. Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Saturday in the LDS church. Burial will be in Willow Grove cemetery with graveside rites. Memorials may be made to the Buffalo Senior Center in care of the funeral home at 351 N. Adams, Buffalo, WY 82801.

Virginia R. `Ginger' Loucks

Former Sheridan resident Virginia R. Ginger Loucks, 75, of Colorado Springs, Colo., died April 27, 2008, in Colorado Springs. Memorial services will be later. Arrangements are with Evergreen Funeral Home in Colorado Springs. Mrs. Loucks was born Dec. 9, 1932, in Trinidad, Colo., to Roger and Thelma Ambrose Albo. A retired waitress, she enjoyed crafts, playing the piano, dancing, singing and poetry. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Loucks; three brothers, Joe, Bert and Ronnie Albo; and two sisters, Irene Brown and Marie Hollingsworth. Survivors include seven children, Jerry Claflin of Sheridan, Jack Claflin and Richard Claflin, both of Trinidad, Ginger Kazmierkoski of Niagara, Wis., Irene Greer of Colorado Springs, Robert Loucks of San Diego, and Roger Loucks of Houston; 19 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Bethesda Worship Center, 1100 Big Horn Ave., Sheridan, WY 82801.

Jean Ewing

A memorial service for Jean Ewing, 76, of Story will be 6 p.m. Wednesday at Story Woman's Club. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Ewing died May 4, 2008, at her residence. She was born April 17, 1932, in Concordia, Kan., to Orville William and Doris Winifred (Brown) Smith. She grew up and attended schools in Kansas, Colorado and Wyoming. She was a 1950 graduate of Natrona County High School in Casper. She was a bartender/bar manager and worked at the Golden Steer, Sheridan Inn, Best Western Sheridan Center, the Wagon Box and Lodore, as well as several establishments in Red Lodge, Mont. She operated the Piney Pony Express taxi service between Story and Sheridan and a lunch wagon. She performed as Itch the Clown. She was a former employee of Collection Professionals and Avco Finance in Sheridan. She was preceded in death by a grandson. Survivors include two daughters, Doe Tabor of Eugene, Ore., and Diana Evan Huskey of Story; two brothers, Marston Beatty of Fort Bragg, N.C., and Bill Smith of Longmont, Colo.; and four grandchildren.

Larry Carbone

Memorial services for Larry Carbone, 57, of Banner will be 10 a.m. Friday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Davis officiating. Inurnment will be in Sheridan Municipal cemetery. Mr. Carbone died April 19, 2008, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital of natural causes. He was born April 19, 1951, in Sheridan to Roco and Katherine Theresa (Scalise) Carbone. He attended Woodland Park Elementary School, Central Junior High School and Sheridan High School. He worked on a plantation in Hawaii for a time before returning to Sheridan. He worked three years for Spring Creek Coal, then moved to Coos Bay, Ore., where he began raising, breeding and showing Arabian horses. He later returned to Sheridan, where he worked briefly for Legerski Meat before going to work for the Wyoming Department of Transportation as a truck driver and snowplow operator. He retired from WYDOT in 2007 after more than 20 years of service. A member of the National Arabian Horse Association, he enjoyed hunting white-tailed deer, riding motorcycles in his younger days, and spending time with his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother. Survivors include a brother, Robert of Westminster, Colo. Memorials may be made to CHAPS Equine-Assisted Therapy, PMB 201, 1842 Sugarland Drive, Suite 108, Sheridan, WY 82801.

Basil R. Hipple

Funeral services for Basil R. Hipple, 45, of Sheridan will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church with the Rev. William Heine officiating. Viewing will be 7-9 p.m. today and 8-10 a.m. Tuesday at Kane Funeral Home. Mr. Hipple died May 2, 2008, in Forsyth, Mont., of unknown cause. He was born Jan. 7, 1963, in Appleton, Minn., to Dick and Carol Hipple. After graduating from high school, he received a bachelor's degree from the University of North Dakota. He married Alicia Kupke on May 12, 2007, in Lusk. He was an engineer for Burlington Northern-Santa Fe Railroad. He was a Wyoming lobbyist and legislative representative for the railroad union and a member of Local 951. He was a member of ABATE of Northeast Wyoming (a motorcycle rights and safety organization), Sheridan County Sportsmen's Association, National Rifle Association, the Blackflies, and Immanuel Lutheran Church. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting and riding motorcycles. Survivors include his wife; his parents, of Bismarck, N.D.; a sister, Candy Vogel of Oakes, N.D.; and a brother, Chuck of Lisbon, N.D. Memorials may be made to Martin Luther Grammar School, 1325 Burton St., Sheridan, WY 82801.

John `Jake' Robinson

BUFFALO - Buffalo-native John Jake Robinson, 85, of Kaycee died April 29, 2008, in Johnson County Health Care Center in Buffalo. Graveside services were Friday in Willow Grove cemetery in Buffalo with the Rev. Bob McHenry officiating. Arrangements were with Adams Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home at 351 N. Adams Ave., Buffalo, WY 82834.

Helen Lavon Lusher

BUFFALO - Helen Lavon Lusher, 87, of Buffalo died May 1, 2008, in the Johnson County Healthcare Center in Buffalo. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Willow Grove cemetery with the Rev. Duane Simonson officiating. Visitation will be 1-9 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday in Adams Funeral Home Chapel. Memorials may be made to Amie Holt Care Center in care of the funeral home at 351 N. Adams Ave., Buffalo, WY 82834.

Edward Joseph Dougherty

Edward Joseph Dougherty, 81, father of Craig Dougherty of Sheridan, died after a very brief battle with cancer June 21, 2008, in Powell. Services were held Thursday at St. Barbara's Catholic Church in Powell with Fr. Glen Szczechowski officiating. interment was at the Powell cemetery. Thompson Funeral Home of Powell was in charge of arrangements. Dougherty was born Sept. 4, 1926, with his twin brother, Charles, in Terrytown, N.Y., to Charles and Irene (McGuiness) Dougherty. He grew up and attended schools in Yonkers, N.Y., and served in the Army during World War II. He attended Oswego State University in New York and earned a masters degree in education from Eastern Montana College. He began his life-long teaching career in Lovell in 1951, where he met and married Joyce Swingdoff in 1956. He also taught at St. Cloud, Minn., and at Rock River before returning to Powell in 1962, where he taught kindergarten through junior high classes and coached and officiated at sports. In 1980, he and his wife moved to Alaska and taught in several small native villages, retired eight years later, and returned to Powell. He served on the Manor Board, Planning and Zoning Commission, Powell Country Club board, Powell Education Association, Elks, and the church council of St. Barbara's Catholic Church, where he was head usher for several years. He was proud of his Irish heritage and an avid Notre Dame and New York Yankees fan. He is survived by his wife; daughter Annie Brandt of Powell; sons Bruce of Lisbon, N.D., Craig of Sheridan, and Dave of Shepherd, Mont.; eight grandchildren; and three sisters-in-law. He was preceded in death by a sister Eileen, and brothers William and Charles. Memorials can be made to the Northwest College Foundation, Heart Mountain Volunteers for Medicine, or a charity of the donor's choice.

Ben Briles

Sheridan VA Medical Center resident Ben Briles, 90, died June 27, 2008, at the Medical Center. Services were held Sunday at the Adams Funeral Home Chapel with Loren Coleman and Donovan Olsen officiating. Burial was at Willow Grove cemetery with the VFW and American Legion in charge of military graveside rites. He was born Nov. 6, 1917, in LeRoy, Kan., to William and Monna Briles, and the family moved to Wyoming in 1919, where they homesteaded near Arvada. He first attended school in a country school and then in Arvada, where he graduated from high school in 1935. He then worked on area ranches until being drafted by the Army in 1942. He was first an M.P. in California and then transferred to the 106th Infantry and served in the European theater, including during the Battle of the Bulge, where he was taken prisoner on Dec. 19, 1944. He was in a German prisoner-of-war camp for three months. He was liberated in May 1945 and received a Bronze Star for Valor for his service in Germany. After the war, he returned to Arvada and helped on his parents' ranch. He married Leola Dalsbo on May 18, 1963. They operated the Briles family ranch until selling it in 1969 and then worked on area ranches until 1977, when they moved to Buffalo. He worked for Butler Construction building metal buildings. Leola died in August 1991, and he continued working at various jobs in the area, including the Johnson County YMCA. He was a resident of the VA Medical Center at the time of his death. He is survived by a step-son Richard Dalsbo, two step-grandchildren, and three step-great-grandchildren. Donations can be made to the Johnson County YMCA in care of the Adams Funeral Home, 351 N. Adams Ave., Buffalo, WY 82834.
