Ruth Frances Floretta

Ruth Frances Floretta, 89, of Sheridan died June 7, 2008, at her home. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Name Catholic Church. A Christian wake will be 7 p.m. today at Kane Funeral Home. Born to Frank and Lillian Humes on Nov. 19, 1918, in Custer County, Neb., she was raised by her uncle and aunt, Bert and Ethel Hutt in Newcastle. She graduated from Chillicothe College in Missouri in 1939. She moved to Sheridan in 1940 and met her future husband, Miles Floretta, when they were both working for Ed Hammer Inc. She enjoyed spending time with her family, handicrafts, and gardening. She is survived by her husband of 67 years; her children, Karen Foutch of Carlton, Wash., Mark Floretta of Florissant, Mo., Paul Floretta of Ranchester, and David Floretta of Port Susan, Wash.; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and her siblings, Franklin Humes of Newcastle, Jack Wilson of Mesquite, Texas, Glen Hutt of Newcastle, and Margaret Shreve of Bullhead City, Ariz. She was preceded in death by an infant son and siblings Robert Humes, Ralph Humes and Ruby Zimmerman. In lieu in flowers, donations be sent to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation, Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, 1100 Herschler Building, Cheyenne, WY 82002.

Willa J. Myers

Willa J. Myers, 67, of Sheridan died May 31, 2008, at Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Funeral services were Monday at First Presbyterian Church in Minot, N.D., with Interment in Rosehill Memorial Park. She was born Feb. 12, 1941, to Wilfred and Fay (Smith) Ehr in Minot. She attended Nedrose School and graduated from Minot High School in 1959. She received a degree in elementary and deaf education from Minot State University and taught at North Dakota School for the Deaf in Devils Lake, N.D., for two years. She married Richard Myers in 1971. In 1989, she moved to Wyoming, teaching in Lusk for seven years, Casper for two years, and eventually coming to Big Horn and Sheridan. She had a passion for horses. She is survived by twin daughters, Dilly Marchant of Newcastle and Dally Myers of Minot; a sister, Donna Irwin of Minot; a brother, Sonny Ehr of Abilene, Texas; two grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Arrangements were by Thomas Family Funeral Home in Minot.

Mary Kathleen `Tiny' Burgess

Mary Kathleen Tiny Burgess, 81, of Sheridan died June 8, 2008, at Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Funeral Mass was celebrated this morning at Saint Margaret's Catholic Church in Riverton, the Revs. Andrew Duncan and Ron Stolcis officiating. Interment will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Black Hills National cemetery in Sturgis, S.D. Born May 22, 1927, in Faith, S.D., to Dan and Agnes (Quinn) Regan, she attended Saint Martin's Academy in Sturgis and Black Hills State Teacher's College in Spearfish, S.D. She married Glenn Burgess on Aug. 20, 1947. They lived and worked in various towns in South Dakota before moving to Riverton in 1959. They moved to Sheridan in 2005. She was a member of Saint Margaret's Catholic Church in Riverton and Holy Name Catholic Church in Sheridan. Mrs. Burgess was a homemaker, as well as a paraprofessional at Riverton Middle School and Lewis and Clarke Junior High in Billings. She loved music, crafts, sports, hunting, camping and family. She was preceded in death by her husband. She is survived by her sons, Kevin Burgess and Terry Burgess of Sheridan; her daughters, Kathy Ketcham of Choteau, Mont., Karen Huxtable of Riverton, Penny Bellah of Buffalo, and Peggy Hinman of Hay Springs, Neb.; a brother, Robert Reegan of Sturgis; 25 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Saint Margaret's School Foundation or Alzheimer's Wyoming, in care of Davis Funeral Home, 2203 W. Main St., Riverton, WY 82501. Jeanne M. Clark

Jeanne M. Clark, 88, of Sheridan died June 2, 2008, at Westview Health Care Center. A Christian wake service will be held at Kane Funeral Home on June 18 at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at Holy Name Catholic Church on June 19 at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Ron Stolcis officiating. Interment will follow in the Elks section of Sheridan Municipal cemetery, followed by a celebration of life from 12-3 p.m. at Kalif Shrine Hall. Born March 28, 1920, to George and Mable Demple, she married James B. Clark in 1945 in Tucson, Ariz. They had known each other since they were toddlers and attended Holy Name School together. She attended St. Mary's College in Leavenworth, Kan. She worked for a short time but found her calling as a full-time housewife. She and her husband retired to Sheridan after his 30-year career in the Air Force. She is survived by her husband; three children, Jane Huckins and Jon Clark of Sheridan and JoAnne Heron of Port Townsend, Wash.; a brother, Robert E. Demple of Sheridan; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A brother, George Demple Jr., died in World War II. In lieu of flowers, memorials may benefit Holy Name School Building Fund, 9 S. Connor St., Sheridan, WY 82801.

Burton Sobotka

Burton Sobotka, 77, of Sheridan, died May 31, 2008, at Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Cremation has taken place, and no services are planned. Kane Funeral Home is handling arrangements. He was born in Gothemburg, Neb., on Jan. 28, 1931, to John and Martha Sobotka. He enlisted in the Navy in 1951 and was honorably discharged in 1972. He married Sharon Doyle in Sheridan on Sept. 19, 1956. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, playing cards, Indian beadwork, gardening, watching the TV show M.A.S.H., reading, and spending time with his family. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion. He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Melvie Bates of Sheridan; a stepson, Jim Walthall of Aurora, Colo.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Dwight; and two sisters, Janet and Virginia. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Patricia Owings, P.O. Box 205, Sheridan, WY 82801 to plant trees in Mr. Sobotka's name.

Ernest F. Ernie Sorenson

Ernest F. Ernie Sorenson, 79, of Sheridan, died June 6, 2008, at Sheridan Manor. A celebration of life for Mr. Sorenson will be 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sheridan Manor Chapel. A memorial service will be in Bismarck, N.D., at House of Prayer Lutheran Church at 1 p.m. June 21 with Pastor Joel Samuelson officiating. He was born Sept. 15, 1928, in Wilton, N.D., to Rudolph and Mae (Jensen) Sorenson. He married his first wife, Aldeen Coleman, on Jan. 17, 1948, in Bismarck. They had five children. He later married Janice Werner. He was a manager of various grain elevators in North Dakota and Montana. He was also in the insurance business and held various small jobs until he retired. He moved to Sheridan in December 2003 to be near his daughters. A member of the Lutheran Church, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards and driving through the countryside. He was preceded in death by one brother and a son, Virgil. He is survived by four daughters, Jan Meckle and Susan Bonnet, both of Sheridan, Karen Fischer of Bismarck, and Sheila Klein of Portland, Ore.; one sister, Ida Mae Wagner of Wilton; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

Dorothy Ann Dottie Marosok

Dorothy Ann Dottie Marosok, 74, of Sheridan died June 5, 2008, at Sheridan Memorial Hospital. She was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on May 29, 1934, to Winifred and George Nester Meyers. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Kane Funeral Home with Pastor Brian Johnson officiating. She volunteered at the Sheridan Senior Center and Salvation Army. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends and was a member of the Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her sister, Shirley Lichtenhan. She is survived by her children, Kathy Orlandi of West Jordan, Utah, and Karen Marosok and Rob Marosok, both of Sheridan; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Memorials may benefit Sheridan Senior Center, 211 Smith St., Sheridan, WY 82801.

Donald Carl Edward Rehwaldt

Donald Carl Edward Rehwaldt, 83, died June 2, 2008, at Luther Manor, Dubuque, Iowa. He was the father of Sheridan resident Linda Erickson. His funeral was Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Wagner, S.D. He was buried at ZCBJ cemetery in Wagner with military honors. He was born Oct. 3, 1924, to Carl and Amanda (Schnose) Rehwaldt in Wagner. He joined the Army on April 13, 1943, and served to Nov. 25, 1946. He was a World War II veteran. On July 18, 1948, he married Kleta Uecker in Wagner. They farmed southwest of Wagner until 1960, when he began working for the Public Health Hospital in Wagner for 25 years. He retired in 1985. A member of St. John's Lutheran Church, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and woodworking. Survivors include four daughters, Linda Erickson of Sheridan, Donnelle Fuerste of Dubuque, Barb Hall of Huron, S.D., and Marlis Carl of Sedalia, Mo.; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, two brothers and two sisters. Memorials may benefit Luther Manor at 3131 Hillcrest, Dubuque, IA 52001 or St. John Lutheran Church in Wagner. Arrangements were made by Crosby Funeral Home in Wagner.

Florence `Flo' V. Brennan

Florence Flo V. Brennan, 77, of Monmouth, Ill., died June 6, 2008, at Cottage Hospital in Galesburg, Ill. She was born April 24, 1931, in Sheridan to Dale and Constance (Mazzia) Fox. She was raised and educated in Sheridan and graduated from Sheridan High School in 1949. Cremation has occurred. A memorial Mass will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church celebrated by Friar Deus Dedit-Byabato and Deacon Will Clark. Burial will be at St. Mary's cemetery in Monmouth. Friends may call Monday at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel in Monmouth, where family will be present from 5 to 7 p.m. She married Michael Brennan on Jan. 4, 1958, in Sheridan. He died Feb. 27, 2007. She worked as a dental assistant at Kane Dental Group in Sheridan for eight years. She moved with her husband to Monmouth in 1963 to raise a family. She loved to sew and read and was considered an excellent cook. Survivors include five children, Kevin Brennan of Western Springs, Ill., Diane Germann of Plainville, Ill., Cathy Betar of Monmouth, Michael T. Brennan of Monmouth, and Francis Brennan of Pekin, Ill.; five grandchildren; and one brother, Edward Fox of Fort Myers, Fla. She was preceded in death by her husband, a granddaughter and one brother, Larry Fox. In lieu of flowers, memorials may benefit the Michael T. Brennan Special Needs Trust.

Billie Knebel Robinson

Billie Kathryn Knebel Robinson, 80, died March 11, 2008, in Murietta, Calif., according to Adams Funeral Home of Buffalo. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. June 14 in Willow Grove cemetery in Buffalo, where she will be interred with her first husband, Donald W. Knebel. Pastor Tom Saur will officiate. Born Sept. 5, 1927, in Lithia Springs, Ga., to Ed and Cora Ralls, she became a registered nurse in Lithia Springs working with polio victims for the Red Cross before moving to California in the late 1940s. In California she met Donald Walter Knebel of Buffalo on a double date. They were married in 1951. In 1977, Mr. Knebel died of a heart attack. A few years later she married Charles Robinson. They were married 18 years until his death in 2000. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed travel, playing bridge, going to the movies, and collecting antiques. She is survived by three children, Joseph Knebel of Chesterfield, Mo., Lea Ann Knebel Miller of Coto De Caza, Calif., and Laura Lynn Knebel Risinger of Seal Beach, Calif.; six grandchildren; and her sister, Aline Wallace of Georgia. Memorials may benefit the Red Cross in care of Adams Funeral Home, 351 N. Adams Ave., Buffalo, WY 82834.

Elma M. Mooney

Elma M. Mooney, 92, of Sheridan, died May 25, 2008, at Sheridan Manor. A Christian wake service will be held at Kane Funeral Home at 7 p.m. Monday. Mass will be celebrated at Holy Name Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Ron Stolcis officiating. Interment will follow in Sheridan Municipal cemetery. Mrs. Mooney was born in Derby, Iowa, on June 22, 1915, to Elmer and Rosa Davis. There she graduated from high school. She married Daniel A. Mooney on Feb. 9, 1935. She enjoyed sewing and handiwork and was a member of the railroaders auxiliary and attended Holy Name Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband; her daughter, Carol Wilhelm; her siblings, Fern Hopkins, Dorothy Mooney, Jim Davis, Luther Davis, Marvin Davis, and Pearl Davis; two grandsons, Albert C. Hendrickson and Robert Hendrickson; and a granddaughter, Kristina Shearin. She is survived by her children, Helen Hendrickson of Sheridan, Daniel Mooney of Carson City, Nev., Michelle McDonald of Casper, David Mooney of Chicago, Patricia Shearin of Laramie, and John Mooney of Topeka, Kan.; 25 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorials be made to the Sheridan Dog and Cat Shelter, 84 East Ridge Road, Sheridan, WY 82801 or to Holy Name Catholic Church, 260 E. Loucks St., Sheridan, or to the Sheridan Senior Center, 211 Smith St., Sheridan.

Lyla M. Davis

Lyla M. Davis, 92, of Sheridan, died June 4, 2008, at her home. A private family service will be held later. She was born Sept. 14, 1915, on a farm near Madison, S.D., to Albert Dunning and Lillie Electa (Messner) Parker. She grew up in Madison graduating from high school in 1934. She then attended Colorado State College in Fort Collins, graduating in 1938. She married Lyle T. Davis in Kimball, Neb., on June 21, 1936. The Davises moved in 1946 to Sheridan, where they started the Davis Music Store on South Main Street which they owned and operated until their retirement in 1969. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church; Naomi Chapter of Order of the Eastern Star, where she was worthy matron in 1959; Daughters of the Nile, where she was queen in 1960; and Rebekah's Lodge, where she was noble grand in 1950. She was preceded in death by her husband. She is survived by one son, Lyle P. Davis of Sheridan, and two granddaughters. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Memorials may benefit Sheridan Senior Citizens Center, 211 S. Smith St., or Knight Templar Eye Fund, P.O. Box 201, Sheridan, WY 82801.

Frances L. `Pat' Deutsch

Frances L. Pat Deutsch, 66, of Sheridan, died June 5, 2008, at Sheridan Manor. Private memorial services will be later. She was born in Upton to Helen (Owings) and Raymond Ellis on April 19, 1942. She grew up and attended schools in Sheridan, graduating from Sheridan High School in 1959. She met Christof R. Deutsch in Sheridan and married him on May 29, 1960. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. She volunteered for the Salvation Army and was a Girl Scouts leader. Mrs. Deutsch was preceded in death by a son, Christof Deutsch. She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Sarah Hannawi of Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and Kathryn Deutsch of Riverton; one sister, Helen R. Williams of Cheyenne; and three grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Martin Luther Grammar School, 1300 W. Fifth St., Sheridan, WY 82801 or the Salvation Army. Kane Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Rosa Joan Calandra

Rosa Rose Joan (Panetta) Calandra, 88, died April 26, 2008, at UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles, according to her family. Funeral Mass took place at Holy Redeemer Chapel with burial at Holy Cross Mausoleum in Culver City, Calif. She was born Aug. 29, 1919, in Sheridan to Bruno and Francesca Panetta. She attended Sheridan schools and sang with the Holy Name Catholic Church Choir. She moved to Butte, Mont., Denver, and Chicago pursuing a career in opera singing. In Chicago, she sang with the Lyric Opera House and the De Paul University Church Choir. She moved to Santa Monica, Calif., where she became a member of the Bella Vocce group, a choir that supports the Los Angeles Opera. She married Victor Calandra in 1964 in Sheridan. They were married 30 years. She enjoyed painting, the ocean and her many pets. She was preceded in death by her husband; three sisters, Rafaela (Ethyl), Matia Jean, and Carmella; and three brothers, Frank, Joe, and Walter. She is survived by several grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Martha S. Godley

Martha S. Godley, 84, Sheridan, died June 1, 2008, at Westview Health Care Center in Sheridan. Visitation will be at Olinger Andrews Funeral Home in Castle Rock, Colo., from 4 -7 p.m. Sunday. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church in Castle Rock with interment in Elizabeth cemetery in Elizabeth, Colo. Born March 12, 1924, in Bessemer City, N.C., to Daniel and Sarah Froneberger, she attended secretarial/bookkeeping school in Charlotte, N.C., where she worked for Godley Auction Co. She married Les Godley on June 10, 1945, and they moved to Elizabeth. She was a bookkeeper and housewife. After retiring, the Godleys spent winters in Mesa, Ariz. They moved to Sheridan in 1997. Mrs. Godley was preceded in death by her husband. Survivors include a son, Jay Godley of Banner; two daughters, Barbara Daugherty of Sheridan and Sandra Peif of Centennial, Colo.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandsons. Kane Funeral Home handled local arrangements. Memorials can be made to the Sheridan Senior Center Endowment Fund, 211 Smith St., Sheridan, WY 82801.
