Allen Charles Anderson

Allen Charles Anderson, 57, of Parkman died July 20, 2008, as a result of a horse accident. A celebration of life will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Dayton Town Park in Dayton. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Born Aug. 10, 1950, to Ogden and Faye (Carpenter) Anderson in Lewistown, Mont., he lived in Winifred, Mont., until fifth grade, when his family moved to Colstrip, Mont. He graduated from Colstrip High School in 1968 and attended Montana State University. He worked at the mine in Colstrip, and in July 1979 he moved to Parkman to ranch. He married Sue Gilliland on March 16, 1973. He loved roping and was a well-respected horseshoer. In recent years, he learned to play the guitar. He is survived by his wife; daughter Jenny McKenzie of Parkman; son Tyler Anderson of Missoula, Mont.; brother Larry Anderson of Kalispell, Mont.; and sisters Carol Sentency of Hobson, Mont., and Kay Buchholz of Fort Mohave, Ariz. He was preceded in death by his parents and by twin daughters Keri and Teri. Memorials can be made to the Sheridan County Rodeo Board in care of First Interstate Bank, P.O. Edythe Kawamoto Vine

Sheridan resident Edythe Kawamoto Vine, 91, died June 3, 2008, at Sheridan Manor, the nursing home announced. Cremation has taken place. No information was available on services. Born Sept. 14, 1916, to Anna and Timothy Kawamoto Sr. in Dietz, she attended schools in the Sheridan area and graduated from Sheridan High School in 1934. She attended Lucas College of Beauty and graduated in 1936. She loved to cut and style hair. She worked at Rex's Beauty Shop and later at Capitol Beauty Parlor for nine years. She married Henry Vine on Dec. 16, 1941, in Fort Collins, Colo. They moved back to Sheridan in 1945, and she bought Rex's Beauty Shop, where she did hair for many years. She is survived by her son, Vance of Cody; a brother, George Raymond of Sheridan; a sister, Grace Kawamoto of Santa Rosa, Calif.; and two grandchildren.

Joel Peter Maertens

Former Story and Buffalo resident Joel Peter Maertens, 45, died July 16, 2008, in Lander. Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Buffalo with the Revs. Peter Johnson, Randy Oswald, Ron Stolcis, and Thomas Ogg co-officiating. Burial and graveside services at Kearney cemetery will follow the Mass. A rosary will be recited today at 7 p.m. at the church. A memorial service was Sunday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Lander with the Rev. David Erickson as officiant. Mr. Maertens was born May 8, 1963, to Roger and Marcia Maertens in Madelia, Minn. He grew up in Story and attended schools in Sheridan and Buffalo. He received bachelor's degrees in zoology/physiology and in pharmacy from the University of Wyoming. After college, he moved to Lander to work in the family pharmacy, establishing Palace Pharmacy in partnership with his father for 15 years. He explored Europe and Asia and made multiple safaris to Africa. He learned an appreciation for fine antiques from his mother and was an avid collector of American glassware and art pottery. He loved the outdoors, Labrador retrievers, English bulldogs, and rag-doll cats. He is survived by his wife, Emma; sons Nicholas Timothy and James Nathaniel of Lander; his parents of Story; brothers Thomas Maertens of Kearney and Steven Maertens of Big Horn; and sister Nancy Phillips of Billings. Donations can be made to the University of Wyoming Maertens Health Sciences Scholarship in care of Adams Funeral Home, 351 N. Adams, Buffalo, WY 82834.

Burt A. Pendergrass

Sheridan resident Burt A. Pendergrass, 61, died July 19, 2008, of natural causes while camping in the Big Horn Mountains. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Champion Ferries Funereal Home with the Rev. Don Derryberry officiating. Born April 1, 1947, in El Campo, Texas, to Carl and Bell (Lenz) Pendergrass, he grew up in El Campo and graduated from El Campo High School in 1965. He enlisted in the Army in July 1966 and retired in May 1986. He served four tours in Vietnam and received the Purple Heart, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Bronze Star, the Republic of Vietnam Parachute Badge, and the Republic of Vietnam Ranger Badge. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal "Valor" First Oak Leaf Cluster, the Army Commendation Medal "Valor" First Oak Leaf Cluster, the Army Achievement Medal, and the Non-Commissioned Officer Parachute Badge. He was an Instructor of Special Forces at Fort Bragg, N.C., a member of First Special Forces Group, Okinawa, Escort Officer Operation Homecoming (POWs) senior tactical instructor, 3rd Army, NCO Academy, Operations Sergeant Headquarters Command and Fort Jackson, S.C., operations sergeant, U.S. Readiness Command, MacDill Air Force Base, Fla., and operations sergeant, 24th Infantry Division at Stewart, Ga. He received an associate degree in economics in 1981 and a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting in 1982 from the University of Tampa (Fla.). He had a second career with the Anchorage Police Department in Alaska from May 1986 to February 2003. He was a detective and was assigned to the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force. He was the senior police officer, K-9 Unit officer and handler, treasurer of the Police Union, Federal DWI Enforcement, Traffic Fatality, Investigation and Court Security officer. He was a precinct committeeman for the Republican Party, a Sheridan County Fair volunteer, past board member of the Anchorage Police Employees Association and the Army Promotion Board, and past member of the Army Court Martial Board. He married Kathleen Schaechterle on Aug. 16, 1997 in Anchorage. He is survived by his wife; sons Steve Allerd of Reno, Nev., and Billy Schaechterle of Bozeman, Mont., ; daughters Rachael and Casey Pendergrass, both of Anchorage; his mother, Belle Matthews of El Campo; brother Carl Pendergrass of Del Rio, Texas; sisters Sue Pendergrass of Houston and Patsy Pendergrass of El Campo; and two grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Sheridan Police Department's K-9 Unit, 45 W. 12th St., Sheridan, WY 82801.

Debby L. McCaffrey

Debby L. McCaffrey, 47, died July 16, 2008, in a boating accident at Tongue River Reservoir. Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Kane Funeral Home with Pastor Sherman Weberg officiating. Kane Funeral Home is handling local arrangements. Born Dec. 3, 1960, in Lander to Robert and Billie Morris, she grew up in Buffalo and graduated from Buffalo High School in 1979. She earned a degree as a certified welder and worked at Fremont Motor. She lived in Casper for a time but considered the Big Horns her home. She loved fishing, camping and enjoying the outdoors with her family. She also liked to bowl, play softball, and compete in dart-throwing leagues. She loved her Labs, Sadie and Griz. She is survived by sons Mike Torrence of Sheridan and Jason Torrence of Casper; her parents of Sheridan; brothers David Morris and Mike Morris of Farmington, N.M., and Tony Morris of Buffalo; and sisters Kathy Dellit of Ranchester, Teresa Montgomery of Glenrock, and Candace Nordman and Suesan Quinn, both of Nashville, Tenn.

Kenneth `Bub' Woods Troutt

Sheridan native Kenneth "Bub" Woods Troutt, 78, died July 11, 2008, at Westview Health Care Center. According to his wishes, he has been cremated, and his cremains will be scattered later. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Born June 6, 1930, in Sheridan to Eddie and Eatchel (Foss) Troutt, he worked with his father in the stock-hauling business and then with Kiewit, Consolidated Trucking, and Sheridan Sawmills. He married Ione Anderson, who preceded him in death, and many years later, he married Carol Smith of Sheridan. He is survived by sons Kim Troutt of Kremmling, Colo., and Kirby Troutt of Sheridan; stepdaughter Stacia Smith of Torrington; sister Ora Mae Bell of Sheridan; one granddaughter; and four great-grandchildren.

Frances Marie Takach

Sheridan native Frances Marie Takach, 100, died July 6, 2008, in Laurel, Mont. A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Derryberry officiating. Inurnment will be in Sheridan Municipal cemetery with arrangements by Champion Ferries Funeral Home. She was born in Sheridan in 1908 to Herman and Katie Johnson, whose families came west on the Oregon Trail and homesteaded near Thermopolis.` She and her family lived in numerous Sheridan-area houses as her father searched for the "perfect" farm. In 1935, she and her husband, Steve, moved from a farm on Cat Creek to Olive Street in Sheridan, where they lived for 60 years. While in their 80s, the couple dismantled an old barn on their property by themselves. When they were both 87, they climbed to the Black Mountain lookout at 9, 500 feet. After her husband died in 1995, Mrs. Takach moved into Heritage Towers, and in 1999, she moved to the Beehive/Tender Nest assisted-living complex in Laurel. She is survived by daughter Wauna Lou Paulson of Laurel; sons David and Walter, both of Albuquerque, N.M., Lewis of Bakersfield, Calif., and Thomas of Waikola, Hawaii; brother Harold Johnson of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, one daughter, three sisters, and two brothers.

`Wayne' Evans

Leslie "Wayne" Evans, 60, died June 27, 2008, after a long battle with cancer in Mariposa, Calif. Services were July 3 at New Life Christian Church in Mariposa. He worked for Burlington Northern Railroad as a carpenter and bridge builder and at Wyoming Sawmills as a millwright. He loved riding his Harley motorcycle and working on his home while spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife, Sue, of Mariposa; brother James of Ranchester; sons Lonnie of Missouri and Ronnie of Oklahoma; stepsons Terry Crabbe of Mariposa, Robert Crabbe of Sheridan, and Steven Volore of Laramie; and 15 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Michael.

Pamela Parker Dadelahi

Sheridan resident Pamela Parker Dadelahi, 61, died of cancer July 13, 2008, in Sheridan. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Sheridan. Kane Funeral Home is in charge of cremation arrangements. Born Jan. 23, 1947, to Alexander and Elizabeth Parker in Santa Ana, Calif., she lived on a military base in Panama until age 5, when her family moved back to the United States and lived mostly in northern California. She earned a bachelor's degree in nursing at Chico State College in Chico, Calif., where she met her future husband, Abbas Sarab Dadelahi. They were married Aug. 4, 1967, and later moved to Tehran, Iran, where they lived for 14 years. They moved in 1982 to Sheridan, where they lived since then. Mrs. Dadelahi worked as a psychiatric nurse at the Sheridan VA Medical Center for 25 years. She loved reading and crossword puzzles and had an expansive knowledge of animal trivia. She believed her greatest achievement was raising her six daughters. She is survived by her husband; daughters Soraya O'Donnell of Livingston, Mont., Samin Eckert of Laramie, Sarah Dadelahi of Sheridan, Soussan Schultz of Seattle, Sohaila Dadelahi of Bozeman, Mont., and Alexis Dadelahi of Sheridan; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an infant son, Saied. Memorial donations can be made to Homecare Hospice of the Big Horns, 1401 W. Fifth St., Sheridan, WY 82801, attn: Lee Ingalls.

Marvin Dee Monroe

Story resident Marvin Dee Monroe, 71, died July 12, 2008, at his home. A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with Pastor John Constantine officiating. Born Oct. 23, 1936, in Sheridan to Thomas and Freda (Pratt) Monroe, he attended Sheridan schools and graduated from Northern Wyoming Community College in 1956. On June 3, 1956, he married Marilynn Smith in Sheridan. The couple moved to Laramie, where they attended the University of Wyoming, and later moved to Canon City, Colo. Mr. Monroe worked for The Daily Record and later as a chemist at Cotter Corp. The couple purchased a Hallmark card and gift shop in 1969, which they owned until 1999, when they sold the business and retired to Story. He was a captain in the Army National Guard and retired in 1996 after 21 years of service. He enjoyed building log furniture, woodworking, and maintaining his Story home. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and Western history buff. He was serving as president of the Big Horn Historical Society at the time of his death and was also a member of the Sheridan County Historical Society and Story Historical Society. He was active in numerous business and sportsman organizations, Story Community Church, and the Men's Fellowship. He loved his family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his wife; daughter Rita Rowe of Canon City; daughter Donna Monroe of Guffey, Colo.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Memorials can be made to Story Community Church, P.O. Box 415, Story, WY 82842 or to Marvin Monroe Memorial Fund for Hunter's Safety Education, P.O. Box 201, Story.

Aim Wuthier

Buffalo resident Aim Wuthier, 103, died July 14, 2008, at his home. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Buffalo Wesleyan Church with the Rev. Paul Wuthier officiating. Visitation is 1-9 p.m. Monday at Adams Funeral Home Chapel in Buffalo. Burial will be in Willow Grove cemetery with graveside services following the funeral. Donations can be made to Buffalo Wesleyan Church in care of Adams Funeral Home, 351 N. Adams, Buffalo, WY 82834.

Scott Barnett

Scott Barnett, 28, Sheridan, died July 10, 2008, in Sheridan. No services are scheduled, and Champion Ferries Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Born Nov. 4, 1979, in Colorado Springs, Colo., to Ron and Rhonda Barnett, he attended school in Saratoga, Casper, and Laramie and graduated from Sheridan High School in 1998. He is survived by his infant daughter, Hartley; his father of Alaska; his mother, Rhonda Havens of Riverton; a brother, David Barnett of Buffalo; and four stepsisters. He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Joe Murray of Sheridan, and stepbrother, Doug Murray of Saratoga. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations for a trust fund for his daughter at First Interstate Bank, 4 S. Main St., Sheridan, WY 82801.

Kenneth Wayne Olson

Sheridan resident Kenneth Wayne Olson, 60, died June 29, 2008, at Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Memorial services were July 4 in Minot, N.D., with arrangements by Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Born July 20, 1947, in Maddock, N.D., to Oscar and Jean Olson, he was an accomplished horse trainer who worked on ranches from Arizona to northern Wyoming over the past 40 years. He is survived by sons Ron of Cheyenne, Neil of Lakewood, Colo., and Eric of Glendive, Mont.; his parents of Minot, N.D.; a brother, Duane of Maddock N.D.; a sister, Debbie Olson of Lincoln, Neb.; and eight grandchildren.

Dale Witty

Former Sheridan resident Dale Witty, 72, died July 14, 2008, at his home south of Buffalo. A celebration of life will be 6 p.m. Friday at the Johnson County Fairgrounds Community Building with Pastor Marty Rostad officiating. A dinner will be served following the ceremony. Private family interment will be in the Flathead Valley of northwest Montana. Arrangements are with Adams Funeral Home of Buffalo. He was born April 25, 1936, in Oswego, Mont., to Teddy and Edith Witty. The family moved to Columbia Falls, Mont., when he was a young boy, and he grew up there, graduating from Columbia Falls High School in 1955. He then worked at a gas station in Columbia Falls. On May, 3, 1957, he married Haroldeen "Deanie" Leighty, and they resided in Columbia Falls. Mr. Witty began work as a log sawyer for Will Warner in 1963, and following a logging accident in 1969, he began one of the first confined hog operations in Flathead Valley. The couple raised hogs until 1975, when Mr. Witty began hauling gravel for Schellinger Construction. In 1978, they moved to Trego, Mont., where he worked as a logging contractor. In 1983, they moved to Sheridan, and he worked as woods boss for Bear Paw Logging; in 1987 he worked as a primary logger for Buckingham Lumber. In 1995, they moved to Buffalo, and in 1999 Mr. Witty became an over-the-road trucker for Natrona Transfer and Storage. He retired in 2001 but continued his love of timbering by milling lumber for his friends and family. He was president of Montana Pork Producers and was nominated for All American Pork Producer in 1971. He was a 4-H leader and a nine-year member of the Montana National Guard, where he served as first sergeant. He also taught gymnastics at the Trego School and was a member of Old Time Fiddlers and the Spruce Beetles Band. He loved spending time with his family and being in the woods. He is survived by his wife; sons Mike and Monte, both of Buffalo; daughters Susan Schmidt of Whitefish, Mont., LeAnn Wood of Oakley, Calif., and Carmen Witty of Clearmont; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by an infant brother. Donations can be made to the Dale Witty Memorial Fund in care of Adams Funeral Home, 351 N. Adams, Buffalo, WY 82834. Pamela Parker Dadelahi Sheridan resident Pamela Parker Dadelahi, 61, died of cancer July 13, 2008, at her residence. Services will be 11 a.m. July 22 at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Sheridan. Sarah J. Daniels

Sarah J. Daniels, 78, died July 9, 2008, at her Sheridan home.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Rev. Thomas Ogg officiating. Inurnment of cremains will be in Sheridan Municipal cemetery. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Born Nov. 25, 1929, in Sheridan to Gardner and Anna (Eberhart) McAllister, she grew up and attended schools in Sheridan County and graduated from Sheridan High School in 1947. She married Erminio "Tarp" Daniels Dec. 18, 1949, in Sheridan. She worked for Monarch Coal Co., Bank of Commerce, Best Out West Mall, and was office manager at Sears. She was a member of the Women's Sewing Club. She enjoyed sewing, bingo, and trips to Deadwood, S.D. She loved being with family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She is survived by son Gary of Alliance, Neb.; daughters Sherry Laughton of Vancouver, Wash., and Sandra Dowdall of Flower Mound, Texas; sisters Thelma Sellers of Aberdeen, Wash., and Mary McAllister of Sheridan; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; brothers William, Junior, David, and Donald; and a sister, Mary Ann. Memorials may be made to Whedon Cancer Foundation, P.O. Box 683, Sheridan, WY 82801.

Susan Joan Sorell

Former Sheridan- and Arvada-area resident Susan Joan Sorell, 92, of Tucson, Ariz., died June 18, 2008, in Tucson, according to her sister. She was buried June 27 in Kalispell, Mont. She was born July 7, 1915, in Sheridan to Kathleen and Joseph Collins. She is survived by sons Joseph and Carl; daughters Chere White and Mary Sheets; sister Patricia Smith of Sheridan; brother Bud Collins; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Lois (Boyko) Etchechoury

Sheridan resident Lois (Boyko) Etchechoury, 76, died July 10, 2008, at St. Vincent's Healthcare in Billings. A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home, and the funeral liturgy will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Name Catholic Church with Father Ronald Stolcis as celebrant. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Etchechoury was born in Kooi to Frank J. and Mary (Wotla) Boyko. She lived in Wyoming until she married Jean Etchechoury in October 1951, and the couple moved to California, where they lived until 1957. They then moved to Nampa, Idaho, where they farmed until 1971. The couple later divorced, and she returned to Sheridan, where she worked for Sheridan Meat Co. until injury forced her to retire. She loved to dance, especially the polka, play bingo, and play poker games. She was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church. She is survived by her sons Jean of Nampa and Ernest of Boise, brother Joe Boyko of Worland, five grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren. Memorials can be made in her name to the Holy Name Catholic School, 121 S. Connor St., Sheridan, WY 82801.
