Vera L. (Dabney) Huson

Vera L. (Dabney) Huson, 79, of Cheyenne died August 4, 2008 in Denver due to complications from surgery. A memorial service was held August 8, 2008 at the Wiedershpahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes with the Rev. Eugene Todd officiating. Cremation has taken place at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens. Wiedershpahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes is in charge of arrangements. She was born in Sheridan on January 7, 1929. She married Harry M. Huson on April 14, 1947 in Hardin, Mont. She was a homemaker and secretary for various businesses where they lived. She lived in Newcastle, Casper, Arvada, and Cheyenne. She was a member of the Methodist Church, Order of Amaranth, and a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a Meals on Wheels driver for 23 years, a former Girl Scout Leader, a Past Guardian of Jobs Daughters and involved in the many other activities in which her daughters participated in. She also enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, and sewing. She is survived by her husband, daughters Karen Kastner and Marsha (Jim) Milek, both of Casper, and Cindy Sutphin of Douglas, six grandchildren, and two-great-grandchildren. Donations may be made to Meals on Wheels or the Shriners Hospital for Children.

Michael Francis Patrick Mike McGuire

Michael Francis Patrick Mike McGuire, 80, of Buffalo died August 5, 2008, at Johnson County Health Care Center. Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Buffalo with the Rev. Peter Johnson officiating. A vigil service and rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday at the church. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Thursday at Adams Funeral Home. Burial will be in Willow Grove cemetery with graveside services following the Mass. Donations may be made to the Susie Bowling Lawrence Hospice in care of Adams Funeral Home at 351 N. Adams Ave. in Buffalo.

Michael V. Chalfant

Michael V. Chalfant, 51, of Parkman died Aug. 1, 2008, at Sheridan Memorial Hospital after a two-year battle with cancer. A viewing will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Kane Funeral Home. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at Kane Funeral Home with the Rev. Kirk Peters of Immanuel Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will be in Dayton cemetery. Born Oct. 21, 1956, in Sheridan to Vincent and Edna (Shroeder) Chalfant, he graduated from Big Horn High School in 1975 and married Susan Cox-Bradshaw in 1979. He worked at Spring Creek Coal. Mr. Chalfant enjoyed hunting, drawing Western art, watching the Denver Broncos, working outdoors, and especially watching his son play basketball and spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife; his son, Sean, of Parkman; his mother, Edna Scott, of Sheridan; and a brother, Larry Chalfant, of Sheridan. He was preceded in death by his father. Memorials may benefit a fund for the education of his son, or a charity of the donors choice.

Donald Eugene Masters

Former Sheridan County resident Donald Eugene Masters, 75, died July 29, 2008, at his home in Las Vegas after a 15-year battle with cancer. Cremation has taken place, according to Masters' sister Nancy Ketcham. Services are pending. Born Feb. 27, 1933, in Sheridan to David E. Masters and Nora Barker Masters, he grew up on the family ranch in Kooi. Masters joined the Navy in 1950 serving three years during the Korean War and then in the Naval Reserve for seven years. He worked in construction most of his life. He was superintendent for Cop Construction and Western Municipal, both of Billings. He loved flying his own airplanes, trapshooting competitions and playing poker. He was preceded in death by his brother David. He is survived by his wife, Delores; a son, Daniel; two daughters, Connie Chahine and Vicki Cochran; and two sisters, Nora Lou Gugler and Nancy Ketcham.

Frank Prosinski

Mass of Christian Burial for Frank Paul Prosinski, 79-year-old Buffalo man who died Aug. 1, 2008, at his home, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday from St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Buffalo with the Rev. Pete Johnson as celebrant. A vigil service and rosary will be recited 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Adams Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in Willow Grove cemetery with graveside rites following the Mass. Donations may be made to Susie Bowling Lawrence Hospice or a charity of choice in care of Adams Funeral Home, 351 N. Adams Ave., Buffalo, WY 82834.

Lila Breen

Former Sheridan resident Lila May (Pete) Buckingham Breen, 75, of Hardin, Mont., died Aug. 2, 2008, at Heritage Acres Nursing Home. Memorial graveside services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in Lodge Grass (Mont.) cemetery. Arrangements are with Bullis Mortuary of Hardin. Born April 17, 1933 in Lodge Grass to Harlow Buckingham and Barbara Ellen Chandler Buckingham Aarstad, she grew up and attended schools in Lodge Grass. She began work at the SU Ranch, where she met and married Bernard A. Breen Sr. on Sept. 15, 1950. Mrs. Breen cooked on various area ranches, including the Hope, Padlock, Kendrick, Faddis Kennedy and Stark. She later worked in the Safeway bakery in Hardin and for Stevenson's IGA in Lodge Grass. She and her husband worked for Harry and Ellen Allen north of Hardin. They later moved to Sheridan. She was preceded in death by her husband; brother William Buckingham; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. She is survived by her children, Frankie Kenyon of Alaska, Ellen Stensaker of North Dakota, Kathy Hope of Busby, Mont., Sherry Kirschenmann of Hardin, Joe Breen of Texas, and Bill and Bernard Breen Jr. of Lodge Grass; her sister, Shirley Cordel of Alaska; her brother, James Buckingham of Sheridan; 27 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren. Memorials may benefit Heritage Acres or Big Horn County (Mont.) Museum.

Mildred L. Fox

Mildred L. Fox, 96, Sheridan, died Aug. 2, 2008, at Westview Health Care Center. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sheridan Municipal cemetery, the Rev. Don Derryberry officiating. Born March 31, 1912, in Afton, Iowa, to Elmer and Bertha (Webb) Thomas, she moved at age 7 with her family to a homestead south of Rozet and attended a one-room country schoolhouse. At age 15 she lost her mother to a scarlet fever epidemic. As the oldest of five children, she helped her father raise her younger siblings. She married Kenneth Chace in 1931, and they had a son, William (Billy). The family moved to Sheridan in 1945, and Mr. Chace died in 1976. She married Parke Fox in 1978. He died in 2002, and Mrs. Fox then moved to Westview. She worked in Sheridan for Tudor Cleaners, Sandwich Shop, Elks Dining Room, and Central School Cafeteria. She enjoyed playing cards, fishing, camping, travel, and visiting with family and friends. In addition to her two husbands, she was preceded in death by two brothers and a son. Survivors include a sister, Carole Irish of Gillette; a half sister, Betty Dygert of Buffalo; and several nieces and nephews. Donations may benefit Sheridan Senior Center Day Break, 211 Smith St., Sheridan, WY 82801; Alzheimer's Wyoming, P.O. Box 1493, Casper, WY 82602; or a charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home.

Beverly F. Barber

Beverly F. Barber, 86, of Ranchester, died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Memorial services are 7 p.m. Wednesday at Big Horn Church with Pastor Sherman Weberg officiating. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Born May 28, 1922, in Homestead, Mont., to Ora and Nora (Casperson) Fleishman, she grew up in Montana and graduated from high school in Froid, Mont. She moved to Los Angeles and graduated from business college. She married Ray Rahn on Oct. 14, 1940, in California. They owned and operated Rahn Bros. Printing for many years until they retired. Mr. Rahn died in 1991. In 1993, she married Don Barber in California. He died in 1994. She moved to Ranchester in 1999 to be near her family. She was a member of Big Horn Church. Mrs. Barber was preceded in death by two brothers. Survivors include her sister, LaVerne Weberg of Sheridan, and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorials may benefit Big Horn Church Mission Fund, Box 212, Big Horn, WY 82833.

Donald L. Graham

Donald L. Graham, 73, of Hanna died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008, in Sheridan Manor. Private family committal service will be later in Laurel, Mont. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Born March 22, 1935, in Sheridan to Virgil and Hazel (Wile) Graham, he attended school in Sheridan. He married Doris Hauf in Sheridan in 1953. They lived in several areas while he worked in road construction. They later divorced. Mr. Graham married Helen Whiteaker in 1962 in Billings, where they lived while he worked as a welder and owned and operated a gas station. Mrs. Graham died in 1984. He moved to Colorado, then Hanna, where he worked at the mine. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and listening to music. Survivors include five sons, Dennis Brunson of Ranchester, Duane Brunson of Sheridan, Joel Pearson and Donald Graham Jr. of Billings, and Dallas Graham of Musselshell, Mont.; five daughters, Debbie Pilcher, Dena Champlin-Wardle and Deanne Hines, all of Sheridan, Taunya Straight of Billings, and Sandra Crane of Musselshell; a brother, Bert Graham of New Mexico; a sister, Cora Sobotka of Cheyenne; 22 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Pearl Mae Crookshanks

Pearl Mae Crookshanks, 89, of Sheridan, formerly of Big Horn County and Hardin, Mont., died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008, in Sheridan. A memorial service will be 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Sugarland Ridge Assisted Living Center in Sheridan with Pastor Doug Goodwin officiating. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Wednesday in Bullis Funeral Chapel in Hardin. Interment will follow in Fairview cemetery. Born Oct. 4, 1918, in Birney, Mont., to Halvor and Karen Pedersen Kirkemo, she grew up and received her early education in Decker, Mont., graduating from Sheridan High School in 1937. She worked at Eatons Ranch in Wolf and in 1939 for the Ben Franklin store in Hardin. She moved to Washington, D.C., in 1940, where she was employed by the U.S. Army at the Pentagon. She retired in 1970 after 30 years of service and moved to Hardin until 2006, when she moved to Sheridan. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Alpha Rebekah Lodge No. 96, Hardin Senior Citizens, and the Big Horn County Museum and Historical Society. She enjoyed gardening, and her passion was dogs and cats. She was preceded in death by a brother, Christopher Kirkemo; and two sisters, Helen Tetschner and Gloria Robbins. Survivors include a brother, Harold Kirkemo of Belgrade, Mont.; and numerous nieces and a nephew. Memorials may benefit the Dog and Cat Shelter, 84 East Ridge Road, Sheridan, WY 82801 or the Big Horn County Historical Museum in Hardin.

David Bradley Roberts

David Bradley Roberts, 42, of Rawlins, died Monday, Sept. 22, 2008. He was the son of John Roberts, the stepson of Shirley Roberts, and the brother of David Baxter, all of Sheridan. A memorial gathering will be 2 p.m. today at the Elks Lodge in Rawlins. Mr. Roberts was born April 9, 1966, in Woodstock, Ill., to John and Rosaleen (McCann) Roberts. He married Beverly J. Dobkins Jan. 8, 1999, in Rawlins. He was a member of the Elks Lodge. He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Robert Ferguson. In addition to his father, stepmother, and brother, Mr. Roberts is survived by his wife; his mother, Rosaleen Ferguson of Hanna; three children, Zachary Roberts of Cheyenne, and Aaron Steel and Ashley Steele, both of Rawlins; three sisters, Margaret Storer of New Mexico, Melissa Donough of Hanna, and Lisa Gilbertson of Billings; and a cousin. Arrangements are with Rostad Mortuary of Rawlins.

Marvin E. Young

Marvin Elgin Young, 88, of Buffalo, died Monday, Sept. 22, 2008, at Amie Holt Care Center in Buffalo. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Willow Grove cemetery with the Rev. Nancy Brooks officiating. Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion will be in charge of military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials may benefit Susie Bowling Lawrence Hospice, c/o Adams Funeral Home, 351 N. Adams Ave., Buffalo, WY 82834.

Della Mae Pederson

Della Mae (Volk) Pederson, 65, of Sheridan, died Monday, Sept. 22, 2008. Viewing will be 2-4 p.m. Friday at Kane Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Grace Baptist Church, 1959 E. Brundage Lane, with Pastor Sherman Weberg officiating. Interment will follow in Sheridan Municipal cemetery. Born May 2, 1943, in Rugby, N.D., to Mike and Stella Volk, she graduated from Towner High School in 1961 and went on to attend cosmetology school that year in Billings. She married Kenneth Pederson on June 30, 1962, in Fulda, Pierce County, N.D. She worked as the second cook at Coffeen School from 1978 to 1995, when she retired. Mrs. Pederson enjoyed attending church, hosting Bible studies in her home, playing games, cooking (especially for holidays with her family), having company drop in, shopping, taking drives, and monthly luncheons with friends. She was known as a faithful and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband and a grandson, Allen ODell. Survivors include four daughters, Deborah ODell, Nancy Grover, Pamela Hilling and Loni ODell, all of Sheridan; a son, Kenneth R. Jr. of Gillette; five siblings, Harlan Volk, Mary Lou Ronglien, Geraldine Meyer, Dennis Volk and Terry Volk; 16 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to Sheridan Community Federal Credit Union, 141 S. Gould St., Sheridan, WY 82801.

Robert Arthur Johnson

Robert Arthur Johnson, 83, of Sheridan, died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital after a battle against Parkinsons disease. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Sheridan with the Rev. Kenneth Doolin officiating. Born Jan. 10, 1925, in Manville to homesteader parents Reuben and Mabel (Carlisle) Johnson, he attended Carbon Black School in Lance Creek for most of his early school years and graduated from Manville High School in 1944. He married Francis Taylor on June 1, 1947, on the Taylor home place on the Divide in Lusk. He worked with his father and brothers on the home place in Lance Creek and for Continental Oil Co. After moving the family to Lusk, he worked for Ranchers Feed Service. The couple moved the family to Sheridan in 1970, where he worked as a milk truck driver for Jersey Creamery, then in maintenance at Sheridan Memorial Hospital until his retirement in 1989. After retirement, the couple joined the Mobile Missions Assistance Program and enjoyed traveling the United States for nine years. When health interfered with their MMAP work, they became Senior Companions with the Sheridan Senior Center. Mr. Johnson continued that work until he moved to Sheridan Manor in July. An active member of First Baptist Church for 38 years, he enjoyed spending time with his family. He looked forward to the many Johnson family reunions. He loved to tinker and was known for always having a home-improvement project in the works. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Wayne and Donald; and one sister, Florence. He is survived by his wife; a sister, Maxine Miller of Casper; four sons, Larry of Esterbrook, Ronald of Douglas, Rex of Delta, Colo., and Keith of Cody; two daughters Merna Dodd of Miles City, Mont., and Anita Walker of Casper; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church or Sheridan Senior Center. The family also requests written memories of Mr. Johnson be sent to his wife to be compiled in a memorial book.

Carla J. Engdahl

Carla J. Engdahl, 56, of Sheridan, died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008, in Sheridan Manor after a long battle with cancer. Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Oct. 3 at Kane Funeral Home with Pastor Tony Forman officiating. A reception will follow at Big Horn Mountain Eagles, 1760 Commercial Lane, Sheridan. Interment of cremains will be 2 p.m. Oct. 4 in Lewistown cemetery in Montana. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Carla Engdahl Memorial Fund, 1735 S. Sheridan Ave., No. 18, Sheridan, WY 82801.
