Jeanne H. Donlin

Jeanne H. Donlin, 93, died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008, at the Talahi Care Center in St. Cloud, Minn. Her daughter is Janice Maier of Sheridan. Visitation is 10-11 a.m. Monday at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church in St. Cloud, Minn. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Resurrection cemetery in Shorewood, Minn. Arrangements are with Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud. Born May 3, 1915, in Minneapolis to Bill and Chloe (Chamberland) Clark, she grew up in Excelsior, Minn., graduating from Excelsior High School. She married John Donlin and they settled at Lake Minnetonka before moving to St. Cloud in the 1960s.
A lifelong singer, she performed in operettas, church choir, even singing in the nursing home. Her father was an immigrant from Scotland, and she was proud of her Scottish blood. She was known to work hard at being frugal. She was preceded in death by her husband and a brother, Jerry Clark. In addition to her daughter, survivors include two grandchildren, five great-grandsons, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Helen M. Currie

Helen M. Currie, 98, of Big Horn, died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2008, at Westview Health Care Center. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Sunday. Due to inclement weather, private graveside services will take place at Mount Hope cemetery in Big Horn with a memorial service planned later. Born Sept. 19, 1910, to Roy and Mary (Ford) Johnson in a tar paper shack on their homestead south of Upton, she attended one-room schools in Weston County and graduated from Upton High School in 1929. She attended the University of Wyoming and traveled extensively. She taught in multiple one-room schools in Weston County, where she met and married John S. Currie in 1944. The Curries ranched at Nye, Mont., until moving to Big Horn in 1947. When her children started school, she attended the University of Colorado, returned to the University of Wyoming and graduated with a bachelor’s degree. She resumed her career in 1958 as a second-grade teacher. She taught more than 700 students in 33 years and she stayed in touch with many of them. Mrs. Currie was active in Cub Scouts, Big Horn Woman’s Club, Red Grade Homemakers, Big Horn City Historical Society, Sheridan County Historical Society, University of Wyoming Alumni Association, Sheridan County Retired Employees Association, Wyoming Education Association, National Education Association, Public Health Board, Daughters of the Nile, and Rebekah Lodge. She enjoyed Daybreak activities at the Sheridan Senior Center and bingo at Westview. She was widely known as “Grammie” in addition to Miss Johnson and Mrs. Currie. She was preceded in death by her husband and a grandson, Stuart J. Currie. Survivors include two sons, James M. Currie of South Carolina and John A. Currie of Evanston; and a daughter, Judy M. Slack of Sheridan.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may benefit Big Horn City Historical Society, P.O. Box 566, Big Horn, WY 82833.

Ronald R. Maloney

Ronald R. Maloney, 58, formerly of Sheridan, died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2008, at his home in Colony, Okla. No services are planned. Born Nov. 26, 1950, in Marshall, Ill., to Elbert L. and Dorothy Maloney, he grew up and attended school in Sheridan before moving to Oklahoma. He enjoyed fishing and working in his garden.
He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, John L. Maloney. Survivors include his mother; his wife, Vickie; two sisters, Cheryl Maloney of Sheridan and Deana Campbell of Arizona; and a brother, Tim Maloney of Sheridan.

Pieda Martinez

Pieda Martinez, 89, of Sheridan, died Friday, Dec. 19, 2008, at Sheridan Manor. A Christian wake service was Saturday at Holy Name Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be March 14 at Sacred Heart Church in Espanola, N.M. Born March 15, 1919, to Tomas and Guadalupe Garcia in Coyote, N.M., she attended schools in Santa Fe, N.M. She married Benito Martinez on Dec. 15, 1943. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Stella Montano of Sheridan; two sons, Tom Garcia of Gaithersburg, Md., and Tim Garcia of Albuquerque, N.M.; two sisters, Atocha Gonzales and Adelires Trujillo of Espanola; two brothers, Tomas Garcia of La Sal, Utah, and Pete Garcia of Coyote; and four grandchildren. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Memorials may benefit Sheridan Senior Center’s Daybreak, 211 Smith St., Sheridan, WY 82801.

Henry R. Bonvillain

Henry R. Bonvillain, 65, of Sheridan, died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2008, in Sheridan V.A. Medical Center. Memorial service is 10 a.m. Friday at the VA chapel with Chaplain E. Edward Diller officiating. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Born Dec. 31, 1942, in Amory, Miss., to Henry and Ruby (Box) Langford, he grew up and attended schools in California. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1967 and served in Vietnam. After the service he returned to California and worked construction. He later moved to Bend, Ore. In the early 1970s, he moved to Sheridan. He graduated from the welding program at Sheridan College, then worked as a welder on construction jobs. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and metal detecting. Survivors include his wife, Sandy; two daughters, Yvetter Petry of Billings and Samantha Olsen of Sheridan; two brothers, Rick Bonvillain of Nevada and David Bonvillain of California; a sister, Brenda Harger of California; and two grandchildren. Memorials may benefit Feed The Children, P.O. Box 36, Oklahoma City, OK 73101-0036.

Ruth Rudolph

Ruth Rudolph, 80, of Sheridan, died Monday, Dec. 22, 2008, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. A celebration of life will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the home of her daughter, Paula Ellis, 10 Beaver Drive, Sheridan, with the Rev. Phil Wold officiating. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Born Nov. 23, 1928, in Elmwood, Neb., to Milton and Delta (Fifer) Rodaway, she grew up in Nebraska graduating from Eagle High School, where she was class valedictorian. She married Marvin Rudolph in Nebraska. They moved in 1955 to Denver, where she worked as a secretary for Dixon Paper Co. and Kelly Girls. Mr. Rudolph died in 1994. Mrs. Rudolph moved to Sheridan in 2003. She was a member of Eastern Star. She enjoyed working the New York Times crossword puzzle and playing piano and loved her little dogs. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Boyd. Survivors include a second daughter, Leslie Cooke of Sheridan; and three brothers, Joy Rodaway of Littleton, Colo., Keith Rodaway of Lincoln, Neb., and Gene Rodaway of Denver. Memorials may benefit the Alzheimer's Association, 3010 11th Ave. N., Billings, MT 59101.

Lester G. Fox

Lester Fox, 96, of Sheridan, died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2008, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Viewing will be 1-3 p.m. Friday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday from Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Rev. Douglas Goodwin officiating. Interment will be in Sheridan Elks cemetery. Born Dec. 26, 1911, in Oklahoma to John and Elsie (Warren) Fox, he came to Sheridan as a teenager and graduated from Sheridan High School. He married Vendeta Wheeler on Nov. 10, 1932, in Hardin, Mont. They ranched near Clearmont. Mr. Fox also worked at other jobs until he went to work for the CB&Q Railroad as a switchman in 1937. During his years at the railroad, he continued to ranch and operated Fox Dairy. He retired from the railroad as yardmaster in 1975 but continued helping his son and grandson with the dairy and ranching. He was a member of Elks Lodge 520, Snomads, and the YMCA. He enjoyed snow machining, fishing, horses, the mountains, travel, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Dean, in 1998. Survivors include his wife; a sister, Barbara Roach of Oakland, Calif.; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Memorials may benefit Wyoming Elks State Trust in care of Elks Lodge 520, Box 624, Sheridan, WY 82801.

Clifford J. Sanders

Clifford J. Sanders, 84, Buffalo, died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2008, at Johnson County Healthcare Center. A private memorial service will be later. Born Nov. 28, 1924, in Downey, Calif., to Jess A. and Mary Sanders, he grew up in Wyoming, graduating from high school as valedictorian in Worland. He attended the University of Wyoming until called to serve in the Chemical Mortar Battalion, U.S. Army, in the European Theater near the end of World War II. After the war he earned a civil engineering degree from UW, completing his college education on the GI Bill and graduating as Outstanding Senior Civil Engineer in 1949. He was a licensed professional engineer and professional land surveyor. The family lived in Montana, Colorado, and Wyoming, where he practiced as a civil engineer for firms such as Paper Calmenson, Stearns Rogers, and Husky Oil Co. He moved with his family to Buffalo in 1965. For the last 16 years of his career he was city engineer and director of public utilities for the city of Sheridan. Under Mayor Dean Marshall and acting Mayor Bill Lilley, he was proud of accomplishments for the city including: building a new sewage treatment plant and a 4 million-gallon water storage tank that improved water pressure; and renovating the treatment plant water intake under the Sheridan Area Water Supply project. As city engineer he oversaw the formation of four special improvement districts, including the South Main Street extension, Highland Avenue, North Heights and the Park Street/Canby area. Establishing parks and green spaces for Sheridan citizens was important to him, as well as maintaining low utility rates. He was also involved with completing the nine-hole addition and water reservoir at the municipal golf course; installation of a-coin operated water dispenser at Washington Park for citizens to purchase clean water; and construction of Sheridan Animal Shelter in a vacant building at the sewage treatment plant. Mr. Sanders oversaw reconstruction of the Eighth and West Loucks Street bridges, construction of new bridges on West 11th and Gould streets, and construction of the new connection of Sheridan to Coffeen avenues. He believed in work force equality and diversity and was one of the first to hire women for technical positions in the treatment plants. He was a member in the Grand Lodge of Ancient, Free and Accepted Masons, Shoshone Masonic Lodge No. 21 for more than 40 years. He enjoyed traveling with his family, working on building improvements to his home and properties, and keeping abreast of the news and new technologies. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy of Buffalo; a son, Scott W. Sanders of Billings; two daughters, Carol Sanders-Leyseth of Bellevue, Wash., and Christy Sanders-Meena of Redmond, Wash.; a sister, Charlotte Coppinger of Sheridan; five grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorials may benefit St. Francis Animal Shelter, Johnson County Library, Sheridan Dog and Cat Shelter or Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library in care of Adams Funeral Home at 351 N. Adams Ave., Buffalo, WY 82834.

Robert Floyd Everson

Robert Floyd Everson, 88, of Sheridan died Friday, Dec. 19, 2008, at Sheridan VA Medical Center. Memorial services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at Kane Funeral Home with Ed Roche officiating. Born April 24, 1920, in Clinton, Iowa, to Charles Everson and Carol Harper, he grew up and attended schools in Clinton and graduated from Clinton High School. Following high school he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served from 1939 to 1967. He participated in World War II and the Korean War. While in the service he met and married Dolores Elaine Melvin. He retired from the Army and went to work as an industrial development manager in Fargo, N.D. The family moved to Sheridan in 2000. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, crafting, and gardening. Mr. Everson was a member of the Eagles, Elks Lodge 520, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and Chamber of Commerce. He was preceded in death by five brothers. Survivors include his wife; five sons, Robert of Sheridan, Michael of Littleton, Colo., Richard of Lakewood, Colo., Terry of Summerville, N.C., and Greg of Fargo; two daughters, Kathi Olson of Fargo and Bonnie Hendricks of Clinton; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Memorials may benefit the family or donor’s choice.

Mary Allen

Mary Allen, 53, of Sheridan, died Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008, at Westview Health Care Center. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Kane Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Kane Funeral Home with the Rev. Kevin Jones officiating. Interment will follow in the Sheridan Elks cemetery. Born Oct. 23, 1955, in Sheridan to Clarence and Doris Norwood, she managed the American Legion for many years. She enjoyed taking gambling trips with her companion, Dave Crocker of Sheridan, and her friends. She enjoyed her job at the Legion, spending time with the old and new friends she made while working there. She enjoyed her flower gardens, shopping with her daughters and sisters, and playing cribbage at the Legion. She was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her daughters, Jessica McDaniel and Crystal McDaniel, both of Longmont, Colo.; siblings Jack Norwood and Irene Sager, both of Sheridan, and Cheryl Sandborn of Story; and two grandchildren. Memorials may benefit the American Cancer Society, 907 N. Poplar Ave., Suite 185, Casper, WY 82601.

William I. Hanks

William I. Hanks, 80, died Monday, Dec. 15, 2008, at Sheridan Manor. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service is planned later in Page, Ariz. Born Nov. 8, 1928, in Missouri to William D. and Ruth Hanks, he grew up and attended school in many small towns in Missouri and Michigan. In 1946 he joined the U.S. Army Air Corps, stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska. He was honorably discharged in 1950. That same year he married Donna Mae Bitz in Sublimity, Ore. The couple lived in several small Western states due to his employment with Atlantic Research Building, test-firing missiles during the late ’50s and ’60s. In 1970 the family moved to Page, at which time he became an outboard/inboard boat mechanic employed at Wahweap Marina, Lake Powell. In 1974 he went to work for Salt River Project on the railroad that shipped coal to the generating station. He retired in 1986. Mr. Hanks enjoyed spending time with family and friends, golf, fishing, archery elk hunting, watching professional baseball and ice hockey. He especially enjoyed the Little League World Series. He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and was known as a distinguished pistol and big-bore rifle shooter. Survivors include his wife; two sons, William of Loveland, Colo., and Robert of Sheridan; two daughters, Barbara Wilson and Rebecca Self, both of Page; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Morris Dixon

Morris Dixon, 83, of Sheridan, died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2008, at Sheridan VA Medical Center. Memorial Mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Name Catholic Church with the Rev. Tom Ogg officiating. Kane Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Born April 13, 1925, to Morris and Jane Dixon in Radnor, Pa., he was a graduate of Haverford High School. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1943 and served until his honorable discharge in 1945. After military service, he made his living as a horse trainer and rancher. Mr. Dixon married Suzanne Christensen in Birney, Mont., on Dec. 12, 1992. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, working with and training horses, ranching and fishing. Survivors include his wife; two siblings, Sam Dixon of Toronto and Edie Gitlin of Malvern, Pa.; four children, Kathy Smiley of Sheridan, Daniel Dixon of Gardnerville, Nev., Mark Dixon of Bozeman, Mont., and Shawn Dixon of Sheridan; three stepchildren, Tony Christensen of Sheridan and Shawn and Stephen Christensen, both of Thornton, Colo.; and nine grandchildren. Memorials may benefit Sheridan VAMC hospice room or other programs that help elderly or disabled veterans.

Paula King Duren

Paula King Duren, 72, of Buffalo, died Friday, Dec. 12, at the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper. Funeral services are 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Buffalo with the Rev. Russ Murphy officiating. A reception will be in Onderdonk Hall immediately following the services. Burial is private, and arrangements are with Adams Funeral Home in Buffalo. Born Dec. 27, 1935, in Buffalo to John and Lucille King, she grew up and attended school in Buffalo and graduated from Johnson County High School in 1953. After high school she attended nursing school in Chicago. She was a certified flight attendant and worked several years for Flying Tigers Airline out of Long Beach, Calif. She worked as a nurse at American Military Hospital in Frankfurt, Germany, where she met and married Thomas Duren in 1964. The couple lived in Buffalo for a few years and in 1967 moved to Colorado Springs, Colo. In 1968 they moved to Long Beach, where she also worked as a nurse. In 1970 they moved back to Colorado Springs, where she continued nursing. They divorced in 1975. In 1985 she retired from nursing and earned a real estate license. She sold real estate in Colorado Springs until she retired in 2003. In 2005 she moved to Buffalo, where she continued to live until her death. She enjoyed painting, weaving, and the outdoors, especially hiking in the mountains. Two brothers preceded her in death. Survivors include three sons, Michael King Duren and Patrick King Duren, both of Colorado Springs, and Alexander King Duren of Buffalo; a brother, John King of Cedar City, Utah; two grandchildren; two nieces; and several nephews. Memorials may benefit Johnson County Library in care of Adams Funeral Home.
