Fred H. Adsit Age 78 of Sheridan, WY
Died Sunday, May 14, 2000, in the V.A. Medical Center, Sheridan
Born October 2, 1921, in Kirby, MT
Parents - Charles & Gustavia (Carlson) Adsit

He grew up in Kirby, MT. Fred moved to Big Horn, WY, in 1935. He worked on ranches until enlisting in the Army during W.W.II. He served with the Army Engineers in the New Guinea, Dutch New Guinea and Salamua Campaigns. After the war, he returned to Wyoming and married Marie Sipe on October 16, 1946, in Hardin, MT. They lived in Moorcroft, WY, where he worked in the oil fields until they moved back to Big Horn. Fred worked for the Wyoming Game and Fish Dept. at the Bird Farm for 35 years until he retired in 1986. They moved into Sheridan in 1997. He was a member of the Big Horn Fire Dept. and Big Horn Lions Club for many years. Fred enjoyed hunting, fishing, pinochle and spoiling his grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents, brother Howard and sisters Dorothy Davis and Helen Collins.

Doris P. Alexander of Sheridan passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2001 at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County at the age of 83.

Mrs. Alexander was born on January 14, 1917, in Littleton, Colorado, to Amy Estelle (Stookey) and William Frederick Pettow. As a child she attended schools in Littleton and graduated from Littleton High School. In 1935 she was united in marriage to Chester C. Alexander in Littleton, Colorado. Together they had two sons, Donald and Gary Alexander. After Chester's death in 1958 Doris retured to school and graduated from Colorado State College wiht a degree in teaching. She was employed as a libraian for School District Number 6 in Colorago for twenty years. Doris enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening and watching the Denver Broncos. She moved to Sheridan from Greeley, Colorado in October of 1997.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Chester; her son, Gary and three sisters, Eloise, Irma and Neva.

She is survived be her son Don Alexander and his wife Lori of Sheridan.

Gary L. Amende, 31, of Eugene, Oregon formerly of Sheridan, passed away Monday, September 18, 2000 in Bozeman, Montana. Memorial Services will be 2pm Friday, September 22, 2000 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. joseph Keys officiating. Kane Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Everett “Ed” Asbury Age 86 of Sheridan, WY
Died Thursday, August 31, 2000, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County
Born December 18, 1913, in Pueblo, Colorado
Parents - Edward & Theodosia Asbury

The family moved to Kansas and he graduated high school in Hoisington, Kansas. Ed graduated from the College of Mines in Kansas and worked for Kennecott Copper Corp. for many years as a mine executive. He retired in 1973. He was instrumental in laying communication cable across Oregon. He married Emma Lu Hatfield on August 28, 1973, in Gillette, WY, and they came to Sheridan in 1974. They traveled extensively in Texas, Florida and all through the south. He was a member of Elks Lodge #520.

Preceded in death by three brothers.

Ray R. Bantle Age 96 of Sheridan, WY
Died February 29, 2000, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County
Born February 20, 1904, in LaCrosse, WI
Parents - John & Lena (Yager) Bantle

He moved to Sheridan when he was sixteen years old. He married Julia Kutcher on July 3, 1946, in Sheridan and spent his remaining years with her and their many friends here. Ray was the Sheridan County Airport manager for 30 years and known by all for his dedication to the community. Julia died in 1993. Ray enjoyed golf, fishing and helping others to learn the sport. He was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church, AARP and a life member of Elks Lodge #520.

Clifford Allen Barbee Age 68 of Sheridan, WY
Died Thursday, July 20, 2000, at his Sheridan home
Born May 5, 1932, in Gladewater, Texas
Parents - Harry & Flossie (McClintock) Barbee

He was raised in Prague, Oklahoma, where he graduated from high school in 1950. He was an honor student and an excellent basketball player. The love of hunting and fishing learned as a young boy continued through adulthood and he especially loved doing both in the Big Horn Mountains. He attended Chillichothe Business College in Missouri and in 1951 began his career with Mountain Bell as a repeater man in the toll test department at Casper, WY. He married Ethel Gale on August 27, 1953, in Rawlins, WY. In 1955, he was transferred to Sheridan. He was drafted into the Army in 1955 serving until 1957 when he returned to his job in Sheridan. He worked as a central office technician until 1976. He was promoted and assigned to manage the central office in the Newcastle, WY, area until 1983 when he returned to Sheridan and was assistant manager of network switching. He retired on April 1, 1987, with 36 years of service. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers.

Preceded in death by three infant children, his parents, and his sister Jeanette Bartemy.

Betty Jane Becker Age 73 of Sheridan, WY
Died Thursday, November 16, 2000, in her Sheridan home
Born May 13, 1927, in Lemmon South Dakota
Parents - Lester & Blanche (Southworth) Davis

Betty grew up and graduated from high school in Rapid City, South Dakota. Graduated from South Dakota State with a degree in Home Economics. She married Donald Becker on October 28, 1950, in Rapid City. They lived in several places before moving to Worland, WY, in 1960. She worked as an assistant dietician in South Dakota and for the schools in Worland. They moved to Sheridan in February of this year. She was very active in the United Methodist Church and P.E.O. Chapter AA in Worland. Betty was always caring for her friends and family.

Marie Obras Benegalia, 99, of Sheridan passed away Wednesday, September 20, 2000 at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan Co. She was born January 23, 1901 in Essen, Germany. marie was the youngest of ten children; eight brothers, and one sister. Marie arrived in America from Germany in December 1922.

In January 1923 she married Martin Benegalia in Sheridan. They lived in Dutch Creek and later moved to Sheridan. She and Martin owned the Dutch Lunch and the Beeline Restaurants in Sheridan. Marie provided home cooked meals for jail house prisoners for 27 years.

She enjoyed cooking, domestic work, was extremely diligent in her work ethic, and thoroughly enjoyed evening car rides to view the sunsets and catch glimpses of wildlife. She was a member of the Holy Name Catholic Church and the Slovene Society. She was a great lady and special grandmother. We miss her.

She is survived by three grandchildren, Martin Benegalia of Granbury, Texas, Toni Wall of Slocum, Texas and Nell Benegalia of Houston, Texas; three great grandchildren, Rex Wall of Slocum, Texas, Sara Wall of Houston, Texas and Matthew Benegalia of Granbury, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband, martin in 1975 and her son, Fred M. Benegalia of Sheridan in 1998.

Funeral services will be held at 10am Tuesday, September 26, 2000 at Kane Funeral Home with Deacon Joe Kristufek officiating. Interment will follow in the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Holy Name School, c/o Kay Roush, First Federal Savings Bank, P.O. Box 6007. Sheridan, WY 82801.
