Debra M. Sell

Debra M. Sell, 47, of Sheridan died Tuesday, March 17, 2009, in her home. Private services will be later. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Born April 30, 1961, in Sheridan to Jack and Doris (Hewitt) Ennis, she grew up and attended schools in Sheridan. She moved to Sundance, where she worked as a waitress and bartender. She married Lonnie Sell in the spring of 1985. She moved to Belle Fourche, S.D., where she was a clerk at the Piggly Wiggly and volunteered with the Make-a-Wish Foundation. In 1995, she moved to Minnesota and ranched until she returned to Sheridan. She drove over-the-road semis, later working at Shipton’s Big R store. She met her companion, Steve Scheutte, in February 2006, and they lived on the ranch east of Sheridan. She enjoyed horseback riding, flowers, snowmobiling, four-wheeling, animals and being outdoors on the ranch. She was preceded in death by her father. Survivors include a son, Colton of Ranchester; a daughter, Dody Moore of Ranchester; her mother of Livingston, Mont.; two sisters, Carole Carey and Janine Stevenson of Livingston; and four grandchildren. Memorials may benefit Sheridan Memorial Hospital Foundation, 1401 W. Fifth St., Sheridan, WY 82801.

Jo Anne L. Sharp

Jo Anne L. Sharp, 70, of Sheridan, died Tuesday, March 17, 2009, at Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church. Kane Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Born May 8, 1938, to Henry and Josephine Love at Fort Francis E. Warren in Cheyenne, she graduated from Burlingame (Calif.) High School. She married Roy Sharp in Sheridan on Feb. 17, 1968. Mrs. Sharp worked as dental assistant in Cheyenne and for nine years as a medical transcriptionist at Sheridan Memorial Hospital, retiring in 2000. She enjoyed crafts and won several awards in counted cross-stitch and quilting. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, sewing, gardening, cooking, hunting, fishing, camping, and was active in Philanthropic Educational Organization. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Lisa Sayer of Sheridan; a stepson, Steve Sharp of Sheridan; a brother, Henry Love of Sundance; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may benefit Elks Building Fund, 45 W. Brundage St., Sheridan, WY 82801; Shrine Crippled Children’s Fund, P.O. Box K, Sheridan; or PEO Chapter AM Scholarship Fund, 3700 Grand Ave., Des Moines, IA 50312.

Thelma Johnston

Thelma Johnston, 84, of Sheridan, died Saturday, March 14, 2009, at Westview Health Care Center. Memorial services are 10 a.m. Monday at Kane Funeral Home with the Rev. John Jackson officiating. Born July 17, 1924, on her father’s homestead in Powder River County, Mont., to Levi and Iva Christine Seamster, she married Wayne Bloxom at the age of 16. Mr. Bloxom died during World War II in the Philippines. In 1946, she married Mansel Johnston, and they lived on the Johnston Ranch most of their lives. They owned and operated the Decker (Mont.) Bar from 1969 to 1978. Mrs. Johnston also operated Thelma’s Café from 1962 to 1966. She was a member of the Cattle Women’s Association, a founding member of BPOE Does, and a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles 186. She enjoyed cooking and hosted many Christmas dinners. She was a two-time cancer survivor. Her second husband also preceded her in death. Survivors include three sons, Don Bloxom and Mansel Jr., both of Dayton, and Art of Cody; a daughter, Linda Johnston Howe of Sheridan; a brother, Robert Seamster; a sister Cathy Gray; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Dr. James W. Howell

Sheridan native James W. Howell, M.D., 62, of Denver died Sunday, March 15, 2009, in Denver. A celebration of his life is 11 a.m. Saturday in Lander at Mount Hope Hudson Funeral Home followed by a reception at the Lander Airport. He was born Oct. 30, 1946, in Sheridan. Survivors include his wife, Maureen; two daughters, Gwen Howell and Piper Howell; a son, Lucas Howell; three stepsons, Judd Rogers, Lucas Rogers and Gabriel Rogers; two sisters, Jane (Howell) Horton and Billie Howell; and five grandchildren. Francis Theodore ‘Ted’ Logan

Sheridan native Francis Theodore “Ted” Logan, 64, of Rapid City died Saturday, March 14, 2009, in Rapid City. Services with military honors were Wednesday at Black Hills National cemetery near Sturgis, S.D. Born Sept. 26, 1944, in Sheridan, he spent his childhood on the Rafter 33 Ranch in Big Horn and graduated from Big Horn High School in 1962. He attended Rocky Mountain College in Billings and then the University of Wyoming, where he received a bachelor’s and a master’s degree. He worked 34 years for the Bureau of Land Management and as an Internal Revenue Service agent and instructor. An Eagle Scout, Vietnam veteran, and American Legion member, he was known for his humorous drawings, paintings, and prose. Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Sheryl Simons Logan, and his brother, Thomas W. Logan of Cottonwood, Ariz. A memorial has been established to Hospice of the Hills in Rapid City. Arrangements were with Osheim and Schmidt Funeral Home.

Kathleen A. Legerski

Sheridan native Kathleen A Legerski, 79, of Casper died Monday, March 16, 2009, at Central Wyoming Hospice in Casper. Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Thursday at Newcomer Funeral Home in Casper with a vigil at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church with burial to follow in Oregon Trail State Veterans cemetery. Born Oct. 3, 1929, in Sheridan to Anthony and Nellie Leo, she grew up here and married Edward Legerski on Dec. 29, 1950, in Hardin, Mont. They moved to Casper in 1951. Mrs. Legerski enjoyed traveling with her husband, shopping, and spending time with her daughter, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband; two sisters, Betty Newlon and Josephine Garriott; and a brother, Thomas Leo. Survivors include a daughter, Diane Fink of Casper; a sister, Eileen Adams of Gillette; a brother, Jim Leo of Sheridan; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Memorials may benefit Central Wyoming Hospice or Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church.

Margaret E. Walters

Margaret E. Walters, 66, of Sheridan died Sunday, March 15, 2009, in Billings Clinic. Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Rev. Douglas Goodwin officiating. Born May 7, 1942, in Sidney, Mont., to Glen and Julia (Elliott) Stanford, she grew up and graduated from high school in Sidney. She attended college in Billings and moved in the mid-1960s to Sheridan, where she worked at Memorial Hospital as a nurse’s aide. She married Wayne Walters on Aug. 30, 1975, in Sheridan. She owned and operated the Raven's Nest antique store until retiring in 2005. She enjoyed knitting, travel and helping others. She volunteered at Trail End State Historic Site, Special Olympics and the Festival of Trees. Survivors include her husband; a son, Ray of Pleasant Hill, Mo.; her mother of Sheridan; and a brother, David Stanford of Carlsbad, N.M. Memorials may benefit Festival of Trees, 1330 Gage Place, Sheridan, WY 82801.

Charles ‘Ed’ Worden

Charles “Ed” Worden, 89, of Sheridan died Sunday, March 15, 2009, at Sheridan Manor. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Friday at Kane Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Masonic 8 cemetery. Born Nov. 4, 1919, to Charles and Ruth (Blackney) Worden, he was raised in Edgemont, S.D., and graduated from high school in 1937. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps and served two years. He then worked as a baker for a few years before re-enlisting in the Air Force in 1941. His first assignment was to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, where he was present during the Japanese attack Dec. 7, 1941. He was also stationed in Puerto Rico, Morocco, and Africa before retiring in 1966 from Vandenberg AFB, Calif., where his last assignment was head of combat defense. After retirement from the Air Force, he obtained his teaching credential and taught math and shop at Rio del Valle High School in Oxnard, Calif., retiring in 1980 to Sheridan. He was active in Masonic lodges, Shrine clubs, Toastmasters, and the Elks Lodge. He enjoyed carpentry of any kind, reading, painting, and playing the saxophone. He served as grand exalted ruler of Sheridan Elks Lodge 520 and president of the Wyoming Elks. He was proud of bringing to Sheridan the idea of the Sheridan Elks Youth Rodeo after seeing a similar program in California. He was preceded in death by a brother, Keith of Sheridan; a grandson; and a son, Michael Worden. Survivors include his wife, Bernice; two daughters, Drina Yost of Minnesota and Katheryn Holicky of California; three stepchildren, Marsha Neeriemer and Don Norskog of Sheridan and Tony Norskog of Boise, Idaho; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may benefit Elks Building Fund, 45 W. Brundage St., Sheridan, WY 82801, Shrine Building Fund, P.O. Box K, Sheridan, WY 82801, or Senior Center Day Break, 211 Smith St., Sheridan, WY 82801.

Leona Brendefur

Leona Brendefur, 69, of Sheridan, died Tuesday, March 17, 2009, at her home. Cremation has taken place and remains will be inurned in the church columbarium. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. A memorial service will take place next week at Trinity Lutheran Church with time to be announced. Memorials may benefit Trinity Lutheran Church.

Donna Jean Vine

Donna Jean Vine, 57, of Sheridan died Monday, March 16, 2009, in her home. Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at RENEW with Pastor Ed Vine officiating. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Born July 12, 1951, in Columbus, Ohio, to William and Opal (Gilmore) Burke, she came to Sheridan in the late 1960s and graduated from Sheridan College with a nursing degree. She worked at Westview Health Care Center, then as a home care nurse in Montana. She returned to Sheridan and worked for RENEW until she retired. Mrs. Vine enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing pranks and reading the Bible. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Vine; her parents; and a sister, Katie. Survivors include a son, Clint Allen of Sheridan; four sisters, Sandy Holt of Michigan, Sally Vine of Sheridan, and Althea Chapman and Paula Murnion of Montana; one brother, Joe Burke of Idaho; a grandmother, Viola Gilmore of Sheridan; two aunts; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Memorials may benefit Right To Life.

Gerald ‘Wes’ Bell

Gerald “Wes” Bell, 52, of Sheridan died Saturday, March 7, 2009, at St. Vincent Healthcare in Billings. Cremation has taken place and services will 11 a.m. March 28 at Sheridan Elks Lodge with lunch to follow. Born Feb. 27, 1957, in Sheridan to Pete and Georgian Bixby Bell, he was a construction worker for most of his life. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and spending time with friends and family. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister. Survivors include two sisters, Eileen Bell and Lorrie Bell Kraft, both of Sheridan; two daughters, Summer and Samantha Bell of Buffalo; and numerous nieces and nephews. Jacob Peter Belus

Jacob Peter Belus, 82, of Clearmont, died Thursday, March 12, 2009, at Johnson County Healthcare Center in Buffalo. Vigil services will be 7 p.m. Sunday at St. John the Baptist Church in Buffalo. Mass of the Christian Burial will be 2 p.m. Monday at the church. Interment will follow in Sheridan Municipal cemetery. Mr. Belus was born April 10, 1926, on Dutch Creek in Sheridan County to Dorothy (Mikula) and John Belus. He enjoyed hiking, gardening, and working at his ranch. A member of Knights of Columbus and St. John the Baptist Church, he graduated from Holy Name School. He was preceded in death by six brothers, John, Steve, Joe, Martin, Mike, and Andy; and two sisters, Val and Elizabeth. Survivors include two brothers, Cy Belus of Sheridan and Phil Belus of Buffalo; two sisters, Ann Ballek of Columbus, Mont., and Mary St. Luke Belus of Dubuque, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews. Memorials may benefit Holy Name School, St. John the Baptist Church in Buffalo, or donor's choice. Kane Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Annamae Barbara Weddle

Annamae Barbara (Monik) Weddle, 76, died Friday, March 13, 2009, at Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Viewing will be 6-7 p.m. Sunday at Kane Funeral Home followed by vigil services. Mass of the Christian Burial is 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Name Catholic Church with the Rev. Felix S. Martinito Jr. officiating. Cremation will follow. Born June 5, 1932, in Kankakee, Ill., to Anna (Wiora) and John Monik, she lived in Kankakee before moving to Sheridan. She married Norman H. Weddle on Dec. 18, 1954, in Kankakee. She enjoyed bingo and soap operas and was known as a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by five siblings, Victoria Hughes, Chester Monik, Louis Monik, Lorraine Petro, and Clarence Monik. Survivors include her husband; four children, Suzanne, James, Marylou and Terry; a sister, Marian Wulffe; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorials may benefit the Annamae Weddle Memorial Fund, c/o Cit-co Federal Credit Union, 502 N. Main St., Sheridan, WY 82801.

John Robert Pruss

John Robert Pruss, 66, of Oshoto, died Thursday, March 12, 2009, at Sheridan VA Medical Center. Funeral services are 2 p.m. March 21 at Adams Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Arden Haeffner officiating. Interment will follow in Willow Grove cemetery with military rites by American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Born Sept. 7, 1942, in Buffalo to Donald and Katherine Pruss, he grew up and received his education in Kaycee. After high school he joined the Army and served in Germany. After the Army he returned to Wyoming, where he was a fence contractor.
He married Irene Proctor on Aug. 18, 1972, in Casper, and they resided in Casper. In 1992 they moved to Hulett, and Mr. Pruss worked at Black Thunder Mine in Gillette. In 2001 he bought a truck and went into business for himself hauling water in the methane fields. In 2003 they moved to Baggs. Ill health forced him to retire, and they spent several months in Blackfoot, Idaho, and moved in 2008 to Oshoto, where he lived until the time of his death. An avid hunter, fisherman, and football fan, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael, in 2000. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Bill Proctor of Lusk and Rob Pruss of Blackfoot, Idaho; three brothers, David Pruss and Phillip Pruss of Gillette and Raymond Pruss of Mesa, Ariz.; one sister, Donna Hamilton of Casper; and five grandchildren. Donations may benefit the Salvation Army in care of Adams Funeral Home, 351 N. Adams, Buffalo, WY 82834.
