Donald "Dick" Gene Betcher passed away Tuesday, April 25, 2000 at the VA Medical Center, at the age of 57.
Dick was born on November 15, 1942, in Gregory, South Dakota, to Alfred and Frieda Hauf Betcher. He was raised in South Dakota on various farms and ranches. After attending high school in Custer, South Dakota, he moved to Wyoming with his family to follow construction jobs. On December 1, 1962, he was united in marriage to Barbara Sabotka. He served his country during the Vietnam War from November 1966 ot 1968. Dick returned to the Sheridan area where he worked for Metz Beverage until 1977. From 1977 until 1983, he owned the Montana Club at Decker, Montana.

Dick enjoyed hunting and fishing in the Big Horn Mountains with his son, brothers and nephews. He enjoyed taking his 2 grandchildren camping and fishing in the mountains and Lake DeSmet. He was a member of Local #400 American legion and the Elks Lodge.
Preceding him in death were his mother and brothers, David and Larry Betcher.

Survivors include his wife Barbara, his son Bryan and wife Kathy of Sheridan, 2 grandchildren Kory and Makinzy of Big Horn, his father Alfred of Buffalo, brothers Ken, Roger and Dennis Betcher, sister Marlene Donoho all of Sheridan and several nieces and nephews who all loved him very much and he enjoyed them all. He was a wonderful family man and will be missed by all who knew him. "Dick, God bless you and rest in peace. We love you."

Bernece E. Bilyeu Age 92 of Sheridan, WY
Died Sunday, November 5, 2000, in Wyoming Medical Center, Casper, WY
Born February 29, 1908, on the family homestead east of Sheridan
Parents - Charles “Tode” & Ella (Mirrett) Bard

Her mother died when she was 13 years old and she took on the task of helping her father with the homestead and raising her three younger brothers. She married Clinton Bilyeu on July 2, 1927, in Billings, MT. They lived in Sheridan several years and then lived in S. Dakota and Colorado before returning to retire in Sheridan. After retiring, she enjoyed organizing the dinners for the retired railroad workers. She loved cooking big meals for her family as well as working in her garden and with her flowers. Bernece was well known for her knitting and crocheting. She spent all the time she could with her family in the Big Horn Mtns. hunting and fishing. Mr. Bilyeu died in 1992 with them having been married for 65 years. Bernece was a member of First Baptist Church. Being born on Feb. 29th, leap year, she always joked about being younger than her grandkids.

She was also preceded in death by three brothers Warren, Allen and Don.

FUNERAL SERVICE WILL BE 10:00AM ON WEDNESDAY (NOV. 8TH) FROM FERRIES FUNERAL HOME WITH THE REV. KENNETH DOOLIN OFFICIATING. INTERMENT IN SHERIDAN MUNICIPAL CEMETERY.
ARRANGEMENTS WITH FERRIES FUNERAL HOME.

VIRGINIA B. BOHM
1917 - 2000

Virginia B. Bohm, age 83 of Sheridan, WY, died Wednesday, August 23, 2000, in Westview Health Care Center, Sheridan.
Memorial service will be 1:00pm on Saturday from St. Peter's Episcopal Church with the Rev.’s David Duprey and Ray Clark officiating. Interment of cremains will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements are with Ferries Funeral Home.

Virginia was born on March 14, 1917, at Ericson, Nebraska, the oldest daughter of Kenneth W. and Susie B. (McCain) VanHorn. She grew up on the family farms and ranches in Nebraska and S. Dakota. Virginia attended her first year of high school at Wheeler County High School in Bartlett, Nebraska. She completed high school at Bennett County High School in Martin, S. Dakota. Virginia married Carl W. Hicks and they had two sons William and Wayne. She attended Chadron State College in Nebraska receiving her teaching certificate and then taught one year in a country school. Virginia returned to Chadron State College after the death of her husband, Carl, in 1958, and received her degree in education. She went on to teach on year in Rapid City, S. Dakota. She moved to Sheridan and taught seventeen years in the third grade in Highland Park Elementary School. Virginia married Willis J. Bohm in 1966 and became the step-mother of his two sons William and Tom. They enjoyed a happy marriage until Willis died in a drowning accident on Lake DeSmet in 1984. Virginia was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Friends of the Library, Hospital Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, Retired Teachers Assn. and a Past Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star. She enjoyed raising flowers and visiting with her close circle of friends on the phone. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Virginia is survived by her sister Jean Henkens of Chadron, Nebraska; two sons William (Bill) Hicks & wife Karen of Gering, Nebraska and Wayne Hicks & wife Susan of Wheatland, Wyoming; two step-sons Bill Bohm & wife Suzanne of Sheridan and Tom Bohm & wife Julie of Billings, Montana; grandchildren Mark Hicks, Martin Hicks & wife Tanda, Craig Hicks & wife Sherri, Brad Hicks & wife Robyn, Todd Hicks & wife Amee, Eric, Cari, Loni, Tara, Bryon and Jason Bohm; great grandchildren Lindsey Winkelman, Madison, Ryley, Regyn, Cooper, Coby Hicks.

Memorials may benefit the S.C. Memorial Hospital Foundation, Box 391, Sheridan; Fulmer Public Library Foundation for large print books or St. Peter's Episcopal Church.

WILLIAM R. BOSWORTH, JR.
1943 - 2000

William Robert Bosworth, Jr., age 57 of Story, WY, died Saturday, July 15, 2000, at his home.
Cremation has taken place and family memorial services will be at a later date. Arrangements are with Ferries Funeral Home.

Bill was born on March 27, 1943, in Grand Rapids, Michigan to William R. ,Sr. & Mary Alice (Cronheim) Bosworth. He grew up and graduated high school in Grandville, MI. He graduated from Grand Valley University in Michigan. Bill married Linda Prins in 1967 in Grand Rapids. He worked as an executive in the auto industry until 1995 when they moved to Story. He purchased and operated Presto Print in Sheridan, WY, until the present time. Bill enjoyed fly fishing and hiking.

He is survived by his wife Linda, son William R. Bosworth, III and his wife Lisa of Salt Lake City, UT, daughter Sara Kristin Lythgoe and her husband Clint of Glenrock, WY, two sisters Susan Bukrey and her husband Jim of Coopersville, MI, and Kelly Stokes and her husband Michael of Sheridan, Michigan, and one granddaughter Lacey Jo Lythgoe; also dear friends Georgina & Tom Ringley of Sheridan, WY.

Edith M. Brokaw, 76, of Sheridan passed away Sunday, September 10, 2000 at Sheridan Manor. She was born December 19, 1923 in Buffalo, Wyoming to Harry and Ruby Nard Kershner. She graduated from high school in Buffalo in 1941 and Sheridan Memorial Nursing School in 1945.

On August 16, 1947 she married Clarence Brokaw at the First Baptist Church in Sheridan. She worked at Memorial Hospital, VA Hospital, Schunk Clinic, and Eventide Nursing Home as a nurse. Edith enjoyed reading, crocheting, gardening, cooking, and putting on family dinners.

She was a member of Sheridan District Nurses Assoc., First Baptist Church, and had been a Brownie Scout Leader.

Edith is survived by daughter, Connie and husband, John Krezelok of Banner; son, David Sr. and wife, Debra Brokaw of El Paso, Texas; two sisters, Ruth Hansen of Buffalo and Eva Shosten of Sheridan; seven grandchildren, Becky Jo Krezelok, George Thomas Brokaw and Sarah, Davis Allen Brokaw Jr. and Vicki, Thomas Allen Brokaw and Brenda, Dwayne Douglas Smith and Brandy, Crystal Gale-Louise Smith, and Christine Patience Brokaw, seven great grandchildren, Cody Allen Brokaw, Brooke Anna nd Taylor Rene Brokaw, Lance Thomas and Marcus Allen Brokaw, and Jeremy Douglas and Seth Michael Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband Clarence in 1995; two brothers, Howard and Olie Kershner; and two sisters, Ida Bell Hepp and Midget Frenchy.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8pm Wednesday, September 13, 2000 at Kane Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10am Thursday, September 14, 2000 at Kane Funeral Home with Rev. Ron Nelson and Rev. Chuck Gifford officiating. Interment will follow in the Elks Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Sheridan College Nursing Program, in care of Delphine Toner, First Interstate Bank, PO Box 2007, Sheridan WY 82801.

Weston W. Bryant Age 81 of Sheridan, WY
Died Sunday, April 9, 2000, in Westview Health Care Center, Sheridan
Born November 15, 1918, in Linn Creek, Missouri
Parents - Whitley & Malinda (Stanton) Bryant
As a young boy he came to the family homestead near Hulett, WY, and later moved to Upton, WY, where he graduated from high school. He attended Black Hills State College. Wes married Opal Kaiser in 1939 in Lusk, WY. They lived in Upton and he hauled Bentonite. They had two daughters and were later divorced. He moved to Colorado and worked construction. Wes married Mary Zelatel in 1950. Later they moved to Greybull, WY, where he owned and operated a trucking company for hauling Bentonite. He moved to Sheridan in the late 1950’s and worked as a crane operator for N.A. Nelson & Husman Construction traveling to many construction sites. About 1970, he went to work in the coal mine at Coal Strip, Montana. In 1975, he began working for Decker Coal as a crane operator until he retired in 1983. He enjoyed traveling and was a member of the Good Sams Club. He was an avid sports fan especially enjoying football. Wes spent many hours riding his four wheeler, fishing, going on picnics and spending time in the mountains. He took pleasure in training his Border Collie mix dogs and loved being with his grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his sister and five brothers.

John Bury Age 80 of Sheridan, WY
Died Saturday, August 26, 2000, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County
Born February 21, 1920, in Kleenburn, WY
Parents - George & Mary (Wolney) Bury
He grew up and attended schools in the Sheridan area and Lander, WY. He lived at the State Training facility in Lander until returning to Sheridan in the late 1980’s. John worked for RENEW for several years. He enjoyed fishing and his good friends.
