She was raised at home in Wilmington, Illinois on the Kankakee River. Helen had fond memories of spending her childhood on the river where summers were spent swimming and floating with her family. When winter arrived, and the river froze, they would pull on the ice skates. She attended elementary school in Custard Park, Illinois and graduated from high school at Reed-Custer High, Braidwood, IL. Helen attended Illinois State University from 1966 to 1968. While at ISU she met and married Douglas S. Parrott of Elizabeth, IL in March of 1968. Their first and only child, Douglas D. Parrott was born on January 6 th, 1969 in Bloomington, IL. The family moved to Sheridan, Wyoming in 1972 where Helen set about raising her family and building a network of life-long friends. She especially loved camping in the Bighorn Mountains and was a huge fan of the Sheridan College basketball team. She was also the number one fan, coach or team mom of any team her son was a part of. In 1982 she enrolled in Sheridan College to finish her degree. She made many great friends during her years in Sheridan and Wyoming has always had a special place in her heart. In 1984 she moved to Laramie and went on to graduate from the University of Wyoming with a Bachelor of Science degree in Statistics in 1985.
