Evelyn C. Denton

Evelyn C. Denton, 81, of Rapid City died Saturday, July 2, 2005, in the Sturgis (S.D.) Community Long Term Care Center. She was mother of Terry Denton of Story and Kirby Denton of Big Horn. Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Grace Lutheran Church in Sturgis with the Rev. Dennis Reich officiating. Burial will be in Black Hills National cemetery. Visitation is noon until 9 p.m. today at Kinkade Funeral Chapel. Mrs. Denton was born Dec. 24, 1923, in Morristown, S.D., to Charles and Evelyn (Frappier) Mistelski. She grew up in Morristown and attended Corson County School. She moved to California during World War II and worked for a Navy supply depot at San Pedro. She married Ted Denton on July 18, 1944, at Hot Springs, S.D. The couple moved to Hot Springs in 1945, then to Lead, S.D., from 1953-73. They later moved to Indiana, Ohio and, in 1978, to Denver, where they lived until 1988, when they retired and moved to Sturgis. Mrs. Denton enjoyed camping and cooking. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Good Sams and Key City Ramblers. Survivors include her husband; another son, Lynn of Lead; a sister, Violet Wellman of Aberdeen, S.D.; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Northern Hills or Make-A-Wish Foundation.

`Dick' Germany Jr.

Former Sheridan resident Hubert Victor Dick Germany Jr., 69, of Buffalo died Thursday, June 30, 2005, at his residence. Private services will be later at Lake DeSmet. Mr. Germany was born Dec. 11, 1935, in Sulphur, Okla., to Hubert and Winnie Germany. The family later moved to Lusk. Mr. Germany worked in Lusk as a service station attendant, later returning to Oklahoma, where he worked high-line construction. He and his wife, Virginia Louise (Stults), later lived in Dennison, Texas, until 1975, when they moved to Sheridan. Mr. Germany retired in 1986, and they moved to Buffalo in 2001. He enjoyed fishing and gardening. He was preceded in death by a brother. Survivors include his wife; a son, Bill Merkey of Sheridan; a daughter, Ethel Tarnstrom of Clearwater, Kan.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

`Sam' Jensen

George Blakeslee 'Sam' Jensen, 66, of Buffalo died Saturday, July 2, 2005, in Johnson County Health Care Center. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Adams Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tom Saur officiating. Private family burial will be in Willow Grove cemetery. Visitation will be 1 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel. Memorials may be made to Suzie Bowling Lawrence Hospice Remodeling Project in care of the funeral home.

Ethel Garland

Ethel Garland, 85, of Sheridan died Monday, June 27, 2005, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Kane Funeral Home with the Rev. Ron Stolcis officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Municipal cemetery.

Audra B. Wilson

Former Sheridan resident Audra B. Wilson, 87, of Hulett died Wednesday, June 29, 2005, in Crook County Memorial Hospital in Sundance. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Fidler-Roberts & Isburg Funeral Chapel in Sundance. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Old High School Gymnasium in Hulett with the Rev. Jim Greenacre officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Hulett cemetery. Mrs. Wilson was born Nov. 21, 1917, in Chadron, Neb., to Font and Alice Bush. She was raised on the family ranch near the Little Missouri River at Hulett. Her parents later moved to Sheridan, where she and her brother attended school. She graduated from Sheridan High School and received her nursing degree from the University of Minnesota. She served in the Army Nurse Corps, 26th General Hospital Division, from Feb. 17, 1942, until May 12, 1947. Her tour of duty included service in England, North Africa and Italy. She contracted polio at the end of World War II. She worked at the hospital in Gillette after being discharged from the Army. She later attended the University of California-Los Angeles and worked as a public health nurse in California and, later, as a school nurse. She married Laurence Edgar Johnson on June 29, 1949, in Long Beach, Calif. He later died. She married Frank B. Wilson on Sept. 9, 1966, in Sparks, Nev. She retired in 1980 and returned to Hulett. She enjoyed going to the family ranch, working with her Arabian horses and gardening. Survivors include two daughters, Patti Oltman of Capistrano Beach, Calif., and Susan Skrove of Hulett; a brother, Warren Bush of Englewood, Calif.; two stepchildren, Karen Ryssman and Gregory Wilson; and two grandsons. Memorials may be made to Crook County Hospice or Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch.

Mary V. Johnson

Mary V. Johnson, 89, of Sheridan died Friday, July 1, 2005, at Westview Health Care Center. At her request, cremation has taken place, and no services have been scheduled. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home.

Mildred Drake

Mildred Drake, 74, of Sheridan died Wednesday, June 29, 2005, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. At her request, cremation has taken place, and no services have been scheduled. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mrs. Drake was born March 11, 1931, in Gillette to James and Rosalie (Slagle) Carroll. She married Glen Drake on March 16, 1951, in Sheridan. She enjoyed reading and traveling with her husband, especially on their motorcycle. Survivors include her husband; two sons, James of Snohomish, Wash., and Russ of Lake Forest Park, Wash.; two sisters, Rosalie Landon of Meeteetse and Effie Hicks of Phoenix; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Vaunda Lee Jones

Vaunda Lee Jones, 66, of Story died Sunday, Aug. 28, at her residence. Her family will host an open house in her memory from 1-4 p.m. Saturday at her residence, 36 Fish Hatchery Road. Arrangements are with the Adams Funeral Home. Mrs. Jones was born Feb. 6, 1939, in Sheridan to Kenneth and Frances Huggins. She began school in Story, but her family moved to other areas of the United States while she was a child. She graduated from high school in Lawrence, Kan., in 1956, and attended business school in Kansas City. She was a stewardess for American Airlines before she married Robert Schlegel in 1960 in Reno, Nev. They lived in New York City, where he was an engineer for Shell Oil. They later lived in Chicago and Iowa. Mr. Schlegel died in March 1970, and she moved to Story. She married Robert Jones in Buffalo in September 1970. They divorced in 1980. Mrs. Jones enjoyed being with her children and grandchildren. In addition to her first husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Jim Schlegel. Survivors include a son, Michael Schlegel of Story; two daughters, Punky Legerski of Sheridan and Sharon Selberg of Story; her mother, of Story; a sister, Michelle Huggins of Story; and five grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the St. Francis Animal Shelter or Project ALS in care of the funeral home.

Gerald F. Kelly

Gerald F. Kelly, 85, of Sheridan died Monday, Aug. 29, 2005, at the Sheridan VA Medical Center. Graveside services with military honors will be 2 p.m. Saturday in the Sheridan Masonic cemetery with Chaplin Arden Haeffner officiating. Memorials may be made to the Shriner's Crippled Children's Fund in care of Brenda Torrens and Nicole Christensen, Bank of the West, 2 N. Main St., Sheridan, WY 82801.

JoEva Benardis

JoEva Benardis, 76, of Casper died Friday, Aug. 19, 2005, in the Wyoming Medical Center. She was mother of Mary Barnes of Sheridan. Funeral services were Aug. 24 at Grace Lutheran Church in Casper with the Rev. Susan Honn officiating. Mrs. Benardis was born July 31, 1929, in Casper to Raymond and Ruth Fritts. She was a lifelong resident of Casper. She was preceded in death by her husband. Other survivors include another daughter, Dorris Waddell of Casper; four sons, Gus, John, Bob and David, all of Casper; two brothers, Raymond and Darrell; a sister, Doris; 18 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Stella Gorzalka

Stella Gorzalka of Sheridan died Friday, Aug. 26, 2005, at her residence. Rosary will be 7 p.m. Monday at Kane Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Thomas Ogg officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Municipal cemetery.

Stella Gorzalka

A Christian Wake Service for Stella Gorzalka, 82, of Sheridan will be 7 p.m. today at Kane Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Tom Ogg officiating. Burial will be in the Elks cemetery. Mrs. Gorzalka died Friday, Aug. 26, 2005, at her residence, with her family around her. She was born Aug. 7, 1923, in Dietz to Joe and Anna (Wierzbicki) Stuka. She was a graduate of Sheridan High School. She married Frank C. Gorzalka on Jan. 31, 1948, in Sheridan. She enjoyed embroidery, reading, cooking and talking with friends. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; two infant brothers; two sisters, Nellie Mae and Annie Stuka; and a brother, Carl. Survivors include a son, Tom of Ulm; three daughters, Margie Rideout and Patti Bell, both of Sheridan, and Terri Fulton of Flower Mound, Texas; three sisters, Henrietta Sutphin and Mary Weber, both of Casper, and Wanda Godawski of Chicago; a brother, Walter Stuka of North Carolina; and seven grandchildren.

Gladys Ellen Pense

BUFFALO - Gladys Ellen Pense, 64, of Kaycee died Saturday, Aug. 27, 2005, at her residence. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Harold Jarrard Park Building in Kaycee with the Rev. Dana Lohse officiating. Visitation will be 1-9 p.m. today in the Adams Funeral Home Chapel in Buffalo. Burial will be in the Kaycee cemetery with graveside rites. Memorials may be made to the Susie Bowling Lawrence Hospice in care of the funeral home.

Lue Purcell

BUFFALO - Lue Purcell, 81, of Buffalo died Wednesday, Aug. 24, at the Amie Holt Care Center in Buffalo. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday in the Adams Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Su Debree officiating. Visitation will be 1-9 p.m. Sunday and 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Monday in the chapel. Burial will be in Willow Grove cemetery with graveside rites. Memorials may be made to the Johnson County Life Line or the Suzie Bowling Lawrence Hospice in care of the funeral home.

Frank Robert Edwards Jr.

A celebration of life for Frank Robert Edwards Jr., 85, of Banner will be Tuesday at the Floral Heights United Methodist Church in Wichita Falls, Texas. Arrangements, including cremation, are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Edwards died Monday, Aug. 22, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. He was born May 10, 1920, in Pinckneyville, Ill., to Frank R. Edwards Sr. and Mabel Irene Sawyer. He played football in high school and was on scholarship at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale when, in his senior year, he enlisted in the Army Air Force. He taught aircraft maintenance courses at Yale University in New Haven, Conn. He married Marion Catherine Downs on June 29, 1945 in West Haven, Conn. At the end of World War II, Mr. Edwards continued in civil service and was based in Delaware, Illinois, Alabama, Florida and Mississippi before being transferred to Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls in 1949. He taught, designed curriculum and later supervised in the helicopter flight refueling and aircraft maintenance school until his retirement in June 1976. He moved to Banner in May 2003 to be near his daughter. He was a lifelong member of Floral Heights United Methodist Church and enjoyed working at the Food Bank there. He was a member, director and advisory board member of Northwest Texas Field & Stream Association, and supported that organization's annual Kid Fishing Rodeo and the Sportsman Fair. After retirement, he developed an interest in woodcarving and was a member of the Texoma Woodcarvers in Walters, Okla. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and made annual fly fishing trips to Yellowstone National Park starting in 1954 and annual salmon fishing trips to Alaska and Vancouver Island starting in 1993. He was preceded in death by his wife, on Aug. 22, 1990, and a brother, Don. Survivors include his daughter, Mary Jane Edwards of Banner; and a sister, Marie Guthrie of Pinckneyville. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Sheridan or the Sheridan Senior Center.

Brian Lee Frappier

A memorial service for Brian Lee Frappier, 36, of Clearmont will be 2 p.m. Sunday in the Arvada-Clearmont High School gymnasium with the Rev. Marty Rostad officiating. Arrangements, including cremation, are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Frappier died Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2005, from injuries sustained in a automobile accident near Clearmont. He was born Sept. 14, 1968, in Waterville, Maine, to Maurice and Hazel (DePalmer) Frappier. He grew up and attended schools in Waterville. He married Cheryl Hart on Aug. 23, 2003, in Clearmont. He was a sales representative for Rocky Mountain Oilfield Warehouse of Casper, a member of the Clearmont Community Church and enjoyed playing cribbage with friends, socializing and cooking. He was preceded in death by a brother, Steve A. Frappier Sr. Survivors include his wife, of Clearmont; a son, Charles A. Leaf III of Buffalo; a daughter, Lena Lynn Frappier of Clearmont; two brothers, Buddy and Moe, both of Maine; two sisters, Tammy Frappier and Heather Brickett, both of Maine; and two stepbrothers, Scott and Jamie Ward, both of Maine; and his parents Hazel and Keven Tardiff and Maurice and Clennice Frappier.
