June Juanita Lobdell, 92, of Sheridan died Monday, Jan. 30, 2006, in Westview Health Care Center. Cremation has taken place. Family graveside services will be 11 a.m. Monday in Highland cemetery in Casper with the Rev. Kevin Jones officiating. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Helen Bridger

Helen Bridger, 81, of Sheridan died Sunday, Jan. 29, in the Hospice of St. John in Denver. Cremation has taken place. Rosary will be recited 7 p.m. Friday at Holy Name Catholic Church. Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday at the church. Arrangements are with Goes Funeral Care in Fort Collins, Colo.

Wyonona Pearl Martin

A remembrance service for Wyonona Pearl Martin, 85, of Sheridan is planned for a later date. Mrs. Martin died Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2006, in Sheridan. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mrs. Martin was born May 9, 1920, in a log cabin on her father's homestead in Whitman to Charles and Grace (Wolff) Finley. She attended a country school until the 10th grade, then attended Cheyenne High School. She married Wilbur M. Martin on Dec. 20, 1958. She enjoyed arts and crafts, sewing, cooking and being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Christian Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and several homemaker clubs. She volunteered at Sheridan Memorial Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband; sisters Gertrude Shaffer, Ilah Graber, Gladys Chard and Ethel Backhouse; and a brother, David Finley. Survivors include two sons, Marvin Harding of Sheridan and Tom Harding Jr. of Northglenn, Colo.; a daughter, Donna Rae Pruett of Soddy-Daisy, Tenn.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Sheridan Senior Citizens Center in care of Kay Roush, First Federal Savings Bank, P.O. Box 6007, Sheridan, WY 82801.

Robert Eugene Smith

Funeral services for Robert Eugene Smith, 66, of Ranchester will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Kane Funeral Home with the Rev. Scott Lee officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Municipal cemetery with military honors. Mr. Smith died Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006, in Sheridan VA Medical Center. He was born Aug. 27, 1939, in Tooele, Utah, to Ruth Lavel (Parkinson) and John Eugene Smith. He entered the Army in 1957, after high school, and served until he was honorably discharged in 1959. He later married Joyce Butler. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, four-wheeling and spending time in the mountains. He was preceded in death by a half brother, Wesley Bowman; and a grandson. Survivors include three daughters, Mary Ann Herden of Ranchester, Tina C. Allguer of Wright and Melanie Shipley of Provo, Utah; a son, Robert E. Smith of San Diego; two sisters, Kathleen Ivie of Chubbuck, Idaho, and Valene Walker of Montpelier, Idaho; and seven grandchildren.

Claude Bernard Knutson

Funeral services for Claude Bernard Knutson, 80, of Sheridan will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Seventh Day Adventist Church with the Rev. Weldon Treat officiating. The services will be followed by a luncheon in the church hall. Burial will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Black Hills National cemetery. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mr. Knutson died Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2006, in the Sheridan VA Medical Center. He was born Oct. 18, 1925, in Webster, S.D., to Thomas and Getta (Olson) Knutson. He attended school in Pierpont, S.D., through the 10th grade. At the age of 8, he worked his own trapline, seven to eight miles long, every day. He enlisted in the Army as a radioman at 17. He ws a forward observer, called in air strikes and made a beach landing at Luzon, the Philippines. He received several medals, including the Purple Heart. He went to Bristol, S.D., after the service. He married Ruth O'Neal in Rapid City in 1953. They lived in South Dakota, Montana and Wyoming. Mr. Knutson worked in construction and as a big game guide. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing in the mountains. He was preceded in death by a son, Craige. Survivors include five children, Jimmy, Jeff, Diana, Tommy and Shelley; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Dennis James `Denny' Wisenbaker

Memorial services for Dennis James Denny Wisenbaker, 58, of Story will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Bethesda Worship Center in Sheridan. Services will be followed by a luncheon and celebration of his life at Story Community Church. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mr. Wisenbaker died Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2006, at his residence. He was born Jan. 3, 1948, in Escondido, Calif., to the Rev. Lawrence Abe Pat and Dorothy Nielsen Wisenbaker. During his childhood, the family lived in various places including Escondido, Ronan, N.M., Pablo, Mont., and Cody. He graduated from high school in Cody in 1966 and attended Bethany (Okla.) Nazarene College in 1966-67. He was a Vietnam veteran, serving with the Navy Seabees from July 19, 1968-July 17, 1970. He earned the Combat Action Ribbon, the Navy National Defense Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars. After leaving the service, Mr. Wisenbaker was a homebuilder in Cody, Sheridan and Oklahoma City. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, a water-skier and downhill skier. He enjoyed the mountains, camping, four-wheeling and watching Oklahoma University Sooners football games. He was preceded in death by his father on Aug. 13, 2004. Survivors include his wife, Carol; two daughters, Kristi Wisenbaker and Kelli Gooch of Bethany, Okla.; four stepsons, Brandon Rosencranse of Honesdale, Pa., Trevor Rosencranse of Basin, and Dustin and Cory Rosencranse, both of Cody; his mother of Nampa, Idaho; three grandsons; and four step-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Story Community Church or the American Cancer Society in care of Kay Roush, First Federal Savings Bank, P.O. Box 6007, Sheridan, WY 82801.

Harold Leslie Dunkin

Harold Leslie Dunkin, 69, of Rock River died Monday, Jan. 23, 2006, in Johnson County Health Care Center in Buffalo of pancreatic cancer. He was the father of Wade Dunkin and Cheryl Roebling, both of Clearmont. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Rock River School with the Rev. Marty Rostad officiating. Private family burial will be at a later date. Local arrangements are with Adams Funeral Home of Buffalo. Mr. Dunkin was born Sept. 3, 1936, in Loveland, Colo., to Harold H. and Sylvia Dunkin. He attended the Summit School in Campion, Colo., and the Big Thompson School in Loveland through the eighth grade. He worked on the family dairy farm until getting a job as a cowboy with Warren Livestock and Cattle Co. of Cheyenne. He served with the U.S. Air Force from 1956-60, spending time in the South Pacific. After being honorably discharged, he returned to Cheyenne. He married Alice Louise Bohling on Dec. 15, 1961, in Cheyenne. They made their home in Iron Mountain, where he worked as a ranch hand. The family moved to the Arlington/McFadden area in 1970, and he worked for the Wyoming Highway Department. They moved to Rock River in 1974, and Mr. Dunkin worked as a coal miner in Hanna until the mine closed in 1982. He then worked at various jobs in the Rock River area. He rode, broke and shoed horses and enjoyed going to livestock auctions. He worked with wood, building small table ornaments, picture frames and coasters, and wrote poetry. He was preceded in death by a brother, Eldon, and a granddaughter. Survivors include his wife; another daughter, Tammy Hoth of Red Lodge, Mont.; two sisters, Doris Ley of Cheyenne and Donna Probst of Shawno, Wis.; and eight grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Fisher House, a hospitality home for families of patients at Denver VA Medical center, or to a fund established to defray Mr. Dunkin's final expenses, in care of US Bank, 568 N. Third St., Laramie, WY 82070.

Eric James Hultberg

Former Sheridan resident Eric James Hultberg, 23, of Keller, Texas, died Friday, Jan. 20, 2006. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at New Hope Lutheran Church in Keller. Burial will be in Bourland cemetery. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Friday at Lucas & Thompson's Keller Funeral Home. Mr. Hultberg was born Oct. 16, 1982, in Billings to Ron and Debra Hultberg. The family lived in Sheridan during most of his first 10 years. The family later moved to Keller, and he attended Keller High School graduating in 2001. He was a member of the Keller High School band. He enrolled at the University of Texas-Austin in fall 2001, pursuing a degree in pharmacy. He was in his third year of UT's four-year Pharmaceutical Doctor program and was beginning his second semester as president of the college's Pharmacy Council, a student government organization. He was the recipient of a Pharmacy Alumni Endowed Scholarship and had won numerous academic honors. Survivors include his parents; a sister, Carrie Ann of Keller; and grandparents Rachel Sanchez of Sheridan and Harold and Betty Hultberg of Coleharbor, N.D.

Evelyn Anita Robbins

Visitation for Evelyn Anita Robbins, 87, of Sheridan is 6-8 p.m. today at Kane Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Immanuel Lutheran Church with the Rev. William Heine officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Municipal cemetery. Mrs. Robbins died Monday, Jan. 23, 2006, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. She was born Jan. 19, 1919, in Clearmont to Albert and Ruby (Schultz) Goodwater. She moved to Wisconsin at age 18. She married Floyd Robbins on Dec. 12, 1940, in Shawano, Wis. They moved to Sheridan. She enjoyed reading, making quilts and crocheting. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, the Lutheran Women's Missionary League, Martha Circle, Immanuel Lutheran Church Ladies Quilting Group, the Sheridan Homemakers Clubs and Good Shepherd Homes. She was preceded in death by her husband and a brother, Albert. Survivors include a daughter, Garnett Lamb of Mountain View; a sister, Esther Sterling of North Bend, Ore.; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Jeanette Isidora (Esponda) Maxwell

Jeanette Isidora (Esponda) Maxwell, 82, of Buffalo died Monday, Jan. 23, 2006, at her residence. She was mother of Marci Buckley of Sheridan. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Buffalo with the Revs. George Von Kaenel and Michael Carr officiating. A Christian Wake service will be 7 p.m. Friday at the church with Von Kaenel officiating. Visitation will be 5-9 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Friday in Adams Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Willow Grove cemetery with graveside services. Mrs. Maxwell was born March 15, 1923, in Buffalo to John and Dominica (Etchemendy) Esponda. She grew up in Buffalo and was a 1941 graduate of Johnson County High School. She attended Loretto Heights College in Denver and later transferred to Creighton University, where she majored in journalism and communications. She married Vernon Whitey Maxwell on Oct. 26, 1944. They made their home in Buffalo. Mrs. Maxwell taught dancing lessons for many years and produced the annual Spring Follies, a local talent show. She and two Sheridan couples co-founded KBBS Radio Station on April 16, 1957. She assumed full ownership of KBBS in 1964 and managed it until Nov. 1, 1996, when Smokey Wilderman purchased the station. Under her guidance, The Basque Program ran on KBBS for more than 40 years. Former Buffalo Mayor Nels Lofgren proclaimed March 7, 1997, as Jeanette Esponda Maxwell Day in Buffalo, and on March 8, 1997, she was inducted into the Basque Hall of Fame in recognition of her contribution to the Basque identity, welfare and culture. Former Gov. Jim Geringer proclaimed March 8, 1997, as Basque Program Day in Wyoming. As a pioneer woman broadcaster, Mrs. Maxwell was inducted into the inaugural Wyoming Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame on June 7, 2003. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, where she served as a lector, Eucharistic minister and member of the choir and Parish Council. She was a member of Big Horn Basque Club, Basque Choir, Buffalo Chamber of Commerce, the Sweet Adelines barbershop group, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, and Take Off Pounds Sensibly. She enjoyed dancing, golf, spending time at Hazelton in the Big Horn Mountains, and being with her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, on Aug. 11, 1978, and by a son, Danny, a sister, two brothers and one granddaughter. Survivors include seven other daughters, Mary Kay Stafford, Marilyn Maxwell and Marti Markovsky, all of Buffalo, Monica Smithers of Arnold, Calif., Margo Trevino of Tracy, Calif., Melanie Walker of Strafford, Mo., and Michele Peck of Cheyenne; three sons, Russell of Cheyenne, David of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Tom of Gillette; a sister, Noeline Sun of Casper; 20 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Benjamin Shipley

Former Sheridan resident Benjamin Shipley, 64, of Gillette died Saturday, Jan. 21, 2006, at his home of an apparent cardiac event. Graveside funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Mount Pisgah cemetery in Gillette with the Rev. Dan Morgan of High Plains Community Church officiating. Military honors will be by American Legion Post 42. Mr. Shipley was born Feb. 11, 1941, in Omaha, Neb., to Benjamin and Catherine Shipley. The family moved to Sheridan when he was a child, and he was raised and educated here. He married Judy Blakeman in Sheridan in 1960. They divorced. Mr. Shipley served in the 101st Army Airborne Division as a paratrooper from 1959 to 1962. He later worked as a truck driver and for Boeing Aircraft for six years. He enjoyed football, especially watching the Denver Broncos. After he retired, he enjoyed prospecting, spending time with his family, playing guitar and fishing. He was also an avid reader. Survivors include two sisters, Corita Burton of Greybull and Karen McClure of Gillette; and one brother, Michael Legerski of Lovell. Larry N. Hoyt

Viewing for Larry N. Hoyt, 56, of Sheridan will be 1-7 p.m. Wednesday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Peter's Episcopal Church with the Rev. David Duprey officiating. Inurnment of cremains will be Saturday in Quiet Rest cemetery near Story. Mr. Hoyt died Saturday, Jan. 21, 2006, at his home. He was born Nov. 19, 1949, in Sheridan to Floyd Sonny and Judith (Frey) Hoyt. He grew up in Sheridan and attended school in Story and Holy Name Catholic School. He was a 1968 graduate of Sheridan High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army after graduation and served in Vietnam as a helicopter crew chief and helicopter mechanic in 1969 and 1970. He received the Bronze Star. After being honorably discharged, he returned to Sheridan and was a mechanic for Sheridan Air Service, Cook Ford and Big Horn Coal Co. He advanced to maintenance superintendent at Big Horn Coal. After retiring from mining in 2002, he went to work for Heartland Kubota. He married Rhonda Vinke on Jan. 18, 1974, in Story. He was an avid cribbage player and enjoyed watching sports. He collected and rebuilt Allis Chalmers Model C tractors. Survivors include his wife; a son, Kelly of Story; two daughters, Shelly Hoyt of Bremerton, Wash., and Wendy Feagler of San Antonio; his parents of Sheridan; two brothers, David of Clearmont and John of San Antonio; a sister, Christine Legler of Denver; and five grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Kalif Shrine Crippled Children Fund, P.O. Box K, Sheridan, WY 82801.

James William Lees

Former Sheridan resident James William Lees, 82, of Billings died Thursday, Jan. 19, 2006, in Valley Health Care in Billings. A memorial service will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Sage Towers in Billings. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements are with Cremation or Funeral Gallery of Billings. He was born Feb. 15, 1923, in Loyalist, Alberta, Canada, to Alex and Margaret Lees. He grew up on the family ranch in Canada and moved to Sheridan. He married Jo Ann Jensik, and they ranched in the Sheridan area. He later moved to Billings. He was preceded in death by a sister, Heather Gerding. Survivors include his wife; two children, Jean Troutt and Jim Lees; a brother, Arthur; and a sister, Jean Mills.

Janice Anne `Jan' Downey

Janice Anne Jan Downey, 70, of Westcliffe, Colo., died Thursday, Jan. 12, 2006, in Pueblo, Colo. She was mother of John F. Downey of Sheridan. Funeral services were Jan. 16 at Valley Bible Fellowship Church in Westcliffe with the Rev. Dick Jones officiating. Burial was in Ula cemetery in Westcliffe. Arrangements were with Holt Family Funeral Home. Mrs. Downey was born Oct. 21, 1935, in Indianapolis to George F. and Edna M. (Morris) Nugent. She grew up in Indianapolis and Southport, Ind., and was a graduate of Southport High School. She married Richard Downey on June 24, 1954, in Southport. They moved to Colorado in 1956. Mrs. Downey obtained an art degree from Red Rocks Community College in Lakewood, Colo. She worked as an artist, painting mostly landscapes and historic buildings in watercolors, acrylics and oils. She was a missionary in Mozambique, East Africa, from 1990-91. She moved to Westcliffe after returning to the United States. She was a member of several art guilds and associations as well as Valley Bible Fellowship Church. She was preceded in death by one granddaughter. Survivors include her husband; another son, David L. Downey of Moreno Valley, Calif.; her mother of Camby, Ind.; her twin sister, Janet Barney of Camby; three other sisters, Sharon Earl of Spencer, Ind., Karen Boyer of Morrisville, Ind., and Pamela Wade of Florence, S.C.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Samuel K. Ealy

Memorial services for Samuel K. Ealy, 77, of Sheridan will be 10 a.m. Monday at Kane Funeral Home with the Rev. Jordan Davis officiating. Mr. Ealy died Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2006, at Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Cremation has taken place. He was born Nov. 11, 1928, in Mount Victory, Ohio, to Phillip M. and Myrtle (Gardner) Ealy. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1948 to 1969. He married Claudia Ray on Jan. 20, 1956, in Baton Rouge, La. They were divorced. Mr. Ealy enjoyed fishing, woodworking and making homemade noodles. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Don, Bruce and Jack. Survivors include a daughter, Debbie Condos of Sheridan; a brother, Phillip of Caramel, Ind.; two sisters, Vivian Dodd of Oklahoma City and Mildred Bryant of Hattiesburg, Miss.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Memorials may be made to Sheridan Area Search and Rescue in care of Kay Roush, First Federal Savings Bank, P.O. Box 6007, Sheridan, WY 82801.

Ronald James Bihr

Ronald James Bihr, 69, of Sheridan died Monday, Jan. 16, 2006, in Sheridan VA Medical Center. No services are planned. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Bihr was born Dec. 13, 1936, in Worland to John and Molly (Lass) Bihr. He grew up and attended schools in Worland, graduating from Worland High School. After high school, he worked in Texas for several years before returning to Worland to work at Edward's Motors as a parts man. He served in the U.S. Army from 1961-62. He moved to Sheridan in 1997. He was preceded in death by two sons. Survivors include two sons, Ronald of Worland and Scott of San Francisco; a brother, Richard of Worland; and a grandson. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
