BUFFALO - Donald John Bettinger, 80, of Buffalo died Friday, April 21, 2006, in Sheridan VA Medical Center. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in Adams Funeral Home Chapel in Buffalo with the Rev. Bob McHenry officiating. Visitation is 1-9 p.m. today and 8-9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Willow Grove cemetery with military graveside rites by the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Memorial may be made to the Jerry Campbell Memorial Scholarship Fund in care of the funeral home.

Sue A. Meacham

Sue A. Meacham, 75, of Sheridan died Friday, April 21, 2006, in Westview Health Care Center. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Friday at St. Peter's Episcopal Church with the Rev. David Duprey officiating. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Sheridan County Museum, P.O. Box 73, Sheridan, WY 82801.

Matthias Ambrose Bell

Matthias Ambrose Bell, 3 days old, died Friday, April 14, 2006, in the arms of his father at St. Vincent Healthcare in Billings. He was born April 11, 2006, to James and Stephanie Bell of Cody. Mrs. Bell is a former Sheridan resident. Mass of the Angels was celebrated Thursday at Saint Anthony's Catholic Church in Cody with the Rev. Vernon Clark as celebrant. In addition to his parents, survivors include sisters Ashlen, Hallie, Taylor, Kateri, Michaela and Cecilia; a brother, James; his grandparents, Jim and Ruth Bell and George and Judy Ribble; and a great-grandfather, Joe Stefanowich. Memorials may be made to Carmelite Monastery in care of Father Daniel Mary, Prior, P.O. Box 2747, Cody.

Leonard DeWayne Harris

Funeral services for former Sheridan resident Leonard DeWayne Harris, 24, of Gillette, will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Rev. Doug Melius officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Municipal cemetery. Mr. Harris died Saturday, April 15, 2006, in Wyoming Medical Center in Casper as a result of a motorcycle accident near Gillette. He was born Sept. 17, 1981, in Galveston, Texas, to Kim and Steve Harris. The family moved to Sheridan, where he grew up and attended school. He played high school football and baseball and participated in the Sheridan County Rodeo. He was employed by RCR Well Service in Gillette. He was engaged to Emily Simpson of Gillette. Survivors include a daughter, Fallon Len Harris; his mother, Kim Townsend of Gillette; his father and stepmother, Steve and Judy Harris of Onsted, Mich.; his stepfather and stepmother Don and Barb Townsend of Sheridan; four brothers Don R., Greg and Brad Townsend and James Conant; four sisters, Venessa Paredez, Brandy Jo Roterius, Erica Swartz and Megan Harris; and grandparents Bobbie and Leonard Harris. Bernice Sissy Slater

Bernice Sissy Slater, 77, of Tampa, Fla., died Sunday, April 16, 2006, at University Community Hospital in Tampa. She was mother of Ronald Slater of Sheridan. Funeral services are today at Carrollwood Chapel, Blount & Curry Funeral Home in Tampa. Burial is in Florida National cemetery in Bushnell. Mrs. Slater was the daughter of the late Samuel and Lillian Sidle of Miami Beach, Fla. She lived in Miami for nearly 70 years before moving to Tampa to be closer to family. She was preceded in death by a brother, Merle of Miami. Survivors include her husband, Sumner; another son, Michael of Tampa; a sister, Florence Jacobson of Miami; and two granddaughters.

Patricia `Patsy' G. Jones

Patricia `Patsy' G. Jones, 77, of Twisp, Wash., died Saturday, April 15, 2006, in Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee of complications from pneumonia. She was mother of Julia Stellingwerf of Sheridan. Rosary will be 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Genevieve's Catholic Church in Twisp. Visitation will be 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday at Precht's Methow Valley Chapel, followed by funeral services at the chapel at 2 p.m. Concluding services and burial will be at Sullivan cemetery in Winthrop, Wash., followed by a potluck at the Twist Senior Citizens Center. Arrangements are with Precht-Harrison-Nearants Funeral Service Directors. Mrs. Jones was born Dec. 13, 1928, in Othello, Wash., to George Red and Jennie Ellsworth. She moved to the Methow Valley with her family in 1929. She was a 1947 graduate of Twisp High School. She married Robert G. Jones on Sept. 19, 1956, in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. He died Sept. 12, 1976. She worked at several jobs, including cook for the Branding Iron Restaurant in Methow Valley for several years. She enjoyed traveling to the Black Hills of South Dakota, Wyoming, Montana and the Washington coast to visit family members. She was a member of Twisp Senior Citizens and Methow Eagles Auxiliary. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles, Virgil and Donald Ellsworth; two sisters, Josephine Danielson and Francis Marcell; and a grandson. Survivors include two sons, Patrick of Stanwood, Wash., and Dennis of Twisp; a second daughter, Jennifer Konrad of Twisp; a sister, Marge Nilles of Twisp; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Raymond E. Marty

Visitation for Raymond E. Marty, 86, of Sheridan will be 6-8 p.m. today at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Peter's Episcopal Church with the Rev. David Duprey officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Municipal cemetery. Mr. Marty died Sunday, April 16, 2006, in Sheridan VA Medical Center. He was born March 2, 1920, in Hot Springs, S.D., to Henry Edmond and Nella Beatrice (Arnold) Marty. He grew up on the family ranch near Edgemont, S.D., and attended schools in Edgemont. He was a 1940 graduate of Edgemont High School. He joined the South Dakota Army National Guard in 1939. His National Guard unit, as part of the 34th Infantry Division, was activated in January 1941 and deployed to England in January 1942. He joined Darby's 1st Rangers in spring 1942 and was later assigned as a sergeant in the cadre for the 3rd and 4th Ranger Battalions serving in North Africa, Sicily and Salerno, Italy. He received the Bronze Star, Army Good Conduct Medal, American Defense, American Campaign, Europe-African-Middle Eastern Campaign with Arrowhead and four campaign stars, the World War II Victory and Army Occupation medals, the Presidential Citation with oak leaf and the Combat Infantry Badge. He was transferred to Fort Ord, Calif., in April 1944, where he trained recruits. He married Marjorie Graham on Nov. 18, 1944, in Edgemont. They moved to Sheridan in 1945. They lived in Casper from 1946-48, when Mr. Marty trained as a mechanic. They returned to Sheridan, and he worked for various automobile dealers until 1975, when he and his brother-in-law, Hank Sullivan, started Coffeen Auto Service. Mr. Marty retired in 1994. He was a life member of American Legion Post 7, National Rifle Association, Ranger Brothers of World War II, Disabled American Veterans and the 75th Ranger Regiment Association. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, dancing and being with his family. He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Larry of Divide, Colo., and Roger of Lakewood, Colo.; two daughters, Gayle Wells of Sheridan and Susan Zastrow of Sioux Falls, S.D.; a brother, Ed of Hot Springs, S.D.; a sister, Mary Rickard of Hot Springs; 10 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Shrine Children's Hospital, Box K, Sheridan, WY 82801.

Tony J. Bocek

Visitation for Tony J. Bocek, 89, of Ranchester will be 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesday at Kane Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Holy Name Catholic Church with the Rev. Ron Stolcis officiating. The family has requested casual attire. Mr. Bocek died Friday, April 14, 2006, at Sheridan Manor. He was born Aug. 6, 1916, in Monarch to John and Anna Bocek. He grew up on his family's farm. He married Stella Zowada on May 15, 1938, in St. Thomas Catholic Church in Monarch. They bought the family farm in 1952. He maintained the farm while working for Big Horn Coal Co. as a miner. He retired from the coal company in 1979 after 42 years. He enjoyed being with his family and friends. He raised a garden, shared produce, and enjoyed dancing, playing cards and feeding wild turkeys. He was a member of St. Edmund's Catholic Church, United Mine Workers of America Local 2055, and a lifelong member of the Elks Lodge. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Paul, John and Mike; and an infant sister, Mary. Survivors include his wife of Ranchester; two sons, Gary of Ferndale, Wash., and Anton of Ranchester; a daughter, Joan Tellez of Sheridan; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Memorials may be made to the Elks Lodge air conditioning fund or Sheridan Senior Citizens Center transportation in care of Janet Bishop, First Federal Savings Bank, P.O. Box 6007, Sheridan, WY 82801.

Leonard DeWayne Harris

Former Sheridan resident Leonard DeWayne Harris, 24, of Gillette died Saturday, April 15, 2006, in Wyoming Medical Center in Casper from injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident near Gillette. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Rev. Doug Melius officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Municipal cemetery. Virginia Kay Austin

Virginia Kay Austin, 62, of Kaycee died Thursday, April 13, 2006, at her residence. She was sister of Merle Koch of Ranchester. A celebration of her life has been held by her family. Arrangements were with Adams Funeral Home of Buffalo. Mrs. Austin was born Dec. 14, 1943, in Worland to James T. and Josphine Morgareidge Spratt. The family moved around the state while she was growing up. She graduated from Kaycee High School in 1962. After high school, she attended nursing school in Casper for one year. She married Jack H. Austin on April 21, 1964, in Kaycee. They made their home in Kaycee. She was a retired employee of the Ron and Judy Christensen Ranch east of Kaycee. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, reading and quilting. She was a member of the pinochle marathon in Kaycee. Survivors include five daughters, Melinda Lee Austin, Shelia Schirmer and Michelle Austin, all of Kaycee; Connie Dallman of Cody and Jacqueline Austin of Billings; a brother, Charles Spratt of Aurora, Colo.; another sister, Lou Jones of Kaycee; and 12 grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Kaycee Branch Library in care of the funeral home.

Hubert John Knickrehm

Memorial services for Hubert John Knickrehm, 90, of Sheridan will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Rev. Doug Melius officiating. Inurnment will be in Grand Island (Neb.) cemetery. Mr. Knickrehm died Sunday, April 9, 2006, at Westview Health Care Center after a brief illness. He was born April 30, 1915, in Grand Island to John and Emma (Stoppkottee) Knickrehm. He graduated from Grand Island High School and worked in the family grocery business before attending the University of Nebraska. He graduated in 1941 with a Bachelor of Science degree and was a member of the 1941 Rose Bowl football team. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps and served in the European Theater during World War II. He attained the rank of major. He returned to Grand Island after the war and went into the insurance business with Cady and Knickrehm and later with The Grand Island Trust Co. He married Theola Ellen Leahy on Jan. 17, 1950, in Grand Island. He was past president of Grand Island Rotary Club, a Paul Harris Fellow, and a member of the Riverside Golf Club, St. Paul's Lutheran Church and the Elks Lodge. He and Mrs. Knickrehm moved to Mesa, Ariz., in 1988, where he belonged to East Mesa Rotary Club. The couple moved to Sheridan in 2001 to be near their daughter. He was preceded in death by a sister, Rosa Krogh. Survivors include his wife of Sheridan; a daughter, Mary Kay Love of Sheridan; and a sister, Dr. Marie Knickrehm of Lincoln, Neb. Shirley deCastro

Visitation for Shirley deCastro, 70, of Sheridan will be 6-8 p.m. Friday at Kane Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Peter James Mwaura officiating. Mrs. deCastro died Sunday, April 9, 2006, at Sheridan Manor. She was born Dec. 18, 1935, in Sheridan to Walt and Rena (Benbrooks) Wolfe. She married Bill deCastro on July 20, 1957. They were divorced. She worked in the banking industry from 1957 until retirement. She enjoyed walking with her two dachshunds, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, gardening and traveling with her companion. Survivors include two daughters, Terri Luitjens of Sheridan and Vickie Culver of Denver; a sister, Dorothy Lee West of California; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Jean Sheila Reed

Funeral services for former Sheridan resident Jean Sheila Reed, 84, of Boise, Idaho, will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Kane Funeral Home with the Rev. Ken Burket officiating. Mrs. Reed died Thursday, April 6, 2006, in Boise. She was born April 1, 1922, in Helena, Mont., to Robert and Alma Abel. She married Albert Everett Reed on Jan. 22, 1944, at the home of her parents. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church and was active in Bible study and prayer circles. She played piano for her church. She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Sheila; two sons, Albert Everette Reed Jr. and Robert; a brother, Robert Abel; a sister, Christina Baker; and a granddaughter. Survivors include a daughter, Pamela Thomas; two sons, Kirk and Pete; a sister, Doris Daniels; 15 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Deborah Anne Hosford Garber

Funeral services for Deborah Anne Hosford Garber, 64, of Sheridan will be 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Peter's Episcopal Church with the Rev. David Duprey officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Municipal cemetery. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mrs. Garber died Saturday, April 8, 2006, at her residence. She was born Sept. 5, 1941, in Watertown, S.D., to Lorraine M. Roach and Richard S. Hosford. She grew up helping her father on the Diamond Cross Ranch at Birney, Mont. She enjoyed riding and hunting rabbits. She attended school in Birney, the Kent Country Day School in Denver and Big Horn School and was a 1959 graduate of Sheridan High School. She attended New Haven College in Jackson, Miss., and the University of Arizona-Tucson. She was an avid reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles and playing bridge. She was an avid sports fan and supported her children in their sports endeavors. Survivors include four children, Christina Murphy, Bruce Garber, Susie Ponce and Rich Garber; three sisters, Kathy Hosford, Carol Vandeventer and Pam David; a brother, Dick Hosford; and four grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Big Horn Education Fund or Big Horn High School Athletic Booster Club in care of Janet Bishop, First Federal Savings Bank, P.O. Box 6007, Sheridan, WY 82801.

David Joseph Watt

David Joseph Watt, 62, of Buffalo died Friday, March 31, 2006, in Billings. He was brother of Regina Leath of Banner. Memorials services were April 4 in Adams Funeral Home Chapel in Buffalo with the Rev. Marty Rostad officiating. Mr. Watt was born April 7, 1943, to Donald J. and Annette (Richter) Watt. He was a 1961 graduate of Johnson County High School and a 1965 graduate of the University of Wyoming with a Bachelor of Science degree with honors in agriculture. He was the fourth-generation owner/operator of the Watt ranch on Clear Creek east of Buffalo. He married Virginia Krezelok on Aug. 25, 1963, at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Sheridan. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed elk hunting and spending time at the family cabin in the Big Horn Mountains. In addition to his sister, survivors include his wife; his mother of Buffalo; a son, Tony of Kathmandu, Nepal; a daughter, Michelle Burke of Buffalo; and three grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Johnson County Library in care of Adams Funeral Home, 351 N. Adams, Buffalo, WY 82834.
