Wilbur E. Pool

Funeral services for Wilbur E. Pool, 84, of Sheridan will be 2 p.m. Friday in First Congregational Church-United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Bob Miller officiating. Burial will be in the Masonic Circle Section of Sheridan Municipal cemetery with graveside services by Sheridan Masonic Lodge No. 8. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Pool died Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2007, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. He was born Jan. 21, 1923, in Sheridan to George H. and Etta (Dawson) Pool. He was a 1941 graduate of Sheridan High School. He married Alta June Ewoldsen on July 2, 1943, at the First Congregational Church in Sheridan. The couple moved to Nashville, Tenn., in 1945, while Mr. Pool attended the Gupton-Jones College of Mortuary Science. He graduated in 1946 as valedictorian. He received his Wyoming State Embalmer's License in 1946 and was funeral director-embalmer for Reed Mortuary in Sheridan before going to work for Champion Funeral Home in 1947. The Pools moved to Buffalo in 1950, where they owned and operated the Pool Funeral Home until 1958. They returned to Sheridan, and Mr. Pool worked for Champion Funeral Home until 1988, when he retired. He continued working part-time for the funeral home, which later became Champion Ferries Funeral Home. He was involved with ambulance service for many years and became one of the first Emergency Medical Technicians in Sheridan County. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, the mountains and camping and playing the organ and piano. He was a Senior Center Ambassador, delivered Meals on Wheels six days a week for 14 years and drove the Senior Center Mini-Bus. He played for Sunday school at his church for 18 years. He assisted at the Sheridan County Wellness Council's annual blood draws for 14 years. He played in dance bands in the Sheridan area for many years. He had been a member of the First Congregational Church/U.C.C. in Sheridan since 1943. He was a member of the Sheridanaires, Sheridan International Order of Odd Fellows Lodge 19 and Sheridan Scottish Rite Bodies. He was a 50-year member of Sheridan Lodge 8, A.F. & A.M., providing music, and a life member of the Kalif Shrine. He was a member of the Kalif Klowns. He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister. Survivors include his wife, of Sheridan; a daughter, Marilyn Puett of Omaha, Neb.; a son, Tom of Hamilton, Mont.; and six grandchildren. Mary K. Miech

A celebration of the life of Mary K. Miech, 94, of Sheridan will be noon Saturday at the Kalif Shrine Center, 145 W. Loucks St. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Miech died Monday, Aug. 6, 2007, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. She was born Oct. 7, 1912, on the family ranch near Piney Creek to Mike and Hedwiga (Rucki) Krezelok. She grew up on the ranch and attended the Old Stone School on Piney Creek. She married Joseph Miech on Dec. 17, 1930, in Hardin, Mont. They lived in Ulm for a year before moving to Sheridan. Mrs. Miech was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars 1560 Auxiliary, Naomi Chapter 2 of the Order of Eastern Star and the First Congregational Church. She enjoyed raising flowers, fishing, crocheting, knitting, baking, cooking, playing bingo, being in the mountains and outdoors. She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, three sisters and two brothers. Survivors include a daughter, Phyllis Gigstad of Magnolia, Texas; a brother, Joe Krezelok of Greybull; a sister, Margaret Ellenwood of Banner; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Angel L. Showers

Funeral services for Angel L. Showers, 46, of Sheridan will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Church of the Living God with Janell Ziegler officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Memorial cemetery under direction of Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Viewing will be 1-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Mrs. Showers died Monday, Aug. 6, 2007, in the emergency room of Sheridan Memorial Hospital of natural causes. She was born July 26, 1961, in Sheridan to Virgil Tubby and Rose (Vine) Badgett. She grew up and attended schools in Sheridan. She married Ed Golson in 1980. They later divorced, and she married Paul Showers in 1987. They also later divorced. She worked as a waitress at the Truck Stop, Bob & Donna Restaurant, Perkins, Main Street Diner and Trail's End Restaurant. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, crossword puzzles and reading the Bible. She was preceded in death by her father. Survivors include two sons, Jeffrey Golson and David Showers, both of Sheridan; two daughters, Melissa Long of Bellingham, Wash., and Christina Golson of Ranchester; her mother, Rose Parsons of Sheridan; a brother, Kevin Badgett of Sheridan; four sisters, Rosie Sadler, Connie Deutsch, Sheila Badgett and Tammy Badgett, all of Sheridan; and five grandchildren. Memorials may be made to benefit the Church of the Living God, 329 Park St., Sheridan, WY 82801.

Wilbur E. Pool

Wilbur E. Pool, 84, of Sheridan died this morning, Aug. 8, 2007, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday in First Congretational Church-United Church of Christ with the Rev. Bob Miller officiating. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

Edna M. Phillips

Edna M. Phillips, 81, Sheridan, died Aug. 4, 2007, at St. Vincent's Hospital in Billings. No services are scheduled; burial is 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sheridan Municipal cemetery. Born May 31, 1926, in Sioux Falls, S.D., to Frank and Mary Hendricks, she attended South Dakota schools and married Dewey Phillips. A homemaker, she loved living in the country as a young woman, animals, and collecting stuffed animals. Her husband and a grandson preceded her in death. Survivors include a daughter, Maria Zamora of Roy, Utah; a grandson; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to acknowledge Mrs. Phillips' friends and neighbors at Avoca Court Apartments for their kindness and support. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home.

Roy E. Hoke

Roy E. Hoke, 85, of Sheridan died Aug. 4, 2007, in Sheridan VA Medical Center. Funeral services will be later. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Hoke was born Aug. 29, 1921, in Washo, Mont., to Jess and Alta (Copple) Hoke. The family moved to Belfry, Mont., when he was 9, and he attended schools there. He worked on a ranch south of Belfry until October 1942, when he joined the U.S. Navy. He was honorably discharged in October 1945. He married Lidia Reichel on Jan. 22, 1943, in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. After the war, he returned to the Belfry area, where the family lived for 10 years before moving to Billings. Mr. Hoke worked for Great Western Sugar Co. in Billings for 30 years, retiring in 1985. He had resided at Sheridan VAMC for 10 years. He enjoyed his horses, writing poetry and collecting antiques. He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. Survivors include his wife of Billings; two sons, Richard and Dennis, both of Billings; four sisters, Thelma Bailey of Salt Lake City, Dora Jackson of Belfry, Alta Yates of Powell and Mickey Thiel of Butte, Mont.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Robert S. Wilmesmeier

Memorial services with military honors for Robert S. Wilmesmeier, 86, of Sheridan will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Kane Funeral Home with the Rev. Brian Johnson officiating. Burial of cremains will follow in Sheridan Elks cemetery. Mr. Wilmesmeier died Aug. 2, 2007, in Westview Health Care Center. He was born June 14, 1921, in Sheridan to Robert and Helen Wilmesmeier. He was a 1939 graduate of Sheridan High School. He joined the Wyoming National Guard and was sent to Fort Lewis, Wash., before World War II. He served as an Army corporal for five years during World War II. He married Ruby Smith in 1951. They divorced in 1963. He married Jean Swanson in 1984; they were divorced. He was a flooring contractor before going to work in the engineering department at Sheridan VA Medical Center. He retired in 1986. He was a member of Sheridan Elks Lodge for 54 years, a member of First Presbyterian Church, where he served on the church session, and a member of the board of Sheridan Heritage Center for five years. He enjoyed volunteering, and his activities included delivering Meals on Wheels, taking patients to appointments at Sheridan VAMC, performing various tasks at City Hall while Jim Wilson was mayor, giving tours of the Sheridan Inn and Trail End StateHistoric Site, and planting and maintaining flowers at the Sheridan Inn. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Alan Wilmesmeier. Survivors include a daughter, Cheryl McIntyre of Blackfoot, Idaho, and two grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Sheridan Senior Citizens Center's Meals on Wheels Program, 211 Smith St., Sheridan, WY 82801.

Georgia M. Wolfer

Georgia M. Wolfer, 90, of Sheridan died July 29, 2007, in Sheridan Manor. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mrs. Wolfer was born Nov. 11, 1916, in Murchison, Texas, to Naomi Fender. She married Charles Chuck Wolfer on May 30, 1955. Survivors include her husband of Sheridan and a daughter, Bonnie Heinrich of Spokane, Wash.

Don King

Memorial services for Donald L. King, 83, of Sheridan will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Big Horn Events Center with the Rev. David Duprey officiating. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mr. King died July 28, 2007, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. He was born Aug. 26, 1923, in Douglas to Williams and Blanche King. He enlisted in the Coast Guard in 1943 and served until 1946, when he was honorably discharged. He married Dorothy Clapp on Feb. 10, 1944, in Tucson, Ariz. He was founder of King's Saddlery and enjoyed leather work and making leather-working tools. He was a member of Sheridan Elks Lodge, American Legion and St. Peter's Episcopal Church. He was preceded in death by two sons, Robert and John. Survivors include his wife; two sons, William and Bruce, both of Sheridan; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Sheridan College Rodeo Team, 3059 Coffeen Ave., Sheridan, or to the Sheridan High School Rodeo Team, 1056 Long Drive, Sheridan, WY 82801.

Gertrude Storm

Gertrude Storm, 101, of Sheridan died Sept. 27, 2007, in Westview Health Care Center. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Doug Melius officiating. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home.

Joseph 'Joe' Legerski

Funeral services for Joseph "Joe" Legerski, 90, of Sheridan will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Kane Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Municipal cemetery. Mr. Legerski died Sept. 25, 2007, at his residence. He was born Feb. 4, 1917, in Acme to George Paul and Mary (Kawulok) Legerski. He was a lifelong resident of the Sheridan area. He married Agnes H. Kawulok on Nov. 21, 1937, in the old Immanuel Lutheran Church on Park Street. He was a coal miner, working at Monarch and, later, Big Horn Coal until 1979, when he retired. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, gardening and drives in the country. He also enjoyed the mountains, horses, old cars, socializing with friends, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a life member of United Mine Workers Local 2055. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Mike, George, Paul and John; and five sisters, Anna Krenzelok, Mary Pelesky, Agnes Fletcher, Eva Bury and Rose Buszkiewic. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Dave, Robert and William, all of Sheridan; three brothers, Frank and Ted of Sheridan and Tony of Riverton; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to a recipient of the donor's choice.

Carolyn Swenson

Former Sheridan resident Carolyn Swenson, 69, of Gillette died Monday, Sept. 24, 2007, in Campbell County Memorial Hospital of natural causes. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home with burial in Mount Pisgah cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Mrs. Swenson was born Dec. 24, 1937, to Clarence and Helen (Mitzel) Wilhelm in Billings. She married Thomas E. Price Sr. in 1954. They lived in Billings and later divorced. She married Wesley Swenson Sr. on Nov. 29, 1970, in Lovell. They later moved to St. Xavier, Mont., where Mrs. Swenson enjoyed canning vegetables and fruits and raising purebred collies. The family moved to Ashland, Mont., in 1978, where Mrs. Swenson and her husband worked for a coal mine. They moved to Gillette in 1984, later moved to Sheridan, then returned to Gillette. Mrs. Swenson worked as a waitress for many years and collected signature plates and Disney movies. She enjoyed listening to Elvis Presley music and dancing. She was preceded in death by two brothers. Survivors include her husband; three sons, Tom Price and Wesley Swenson Jr., both of Gillette, and Kem Price of Sheridan; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Cassandra Aileen Owens

Former Sheridan resident Cassandra Aileen Owens, 22, of Craig, Colo., died at her home Sept. 15, 2007, of cancer. Funeral services were Sept. 19 at First Christian Church with burial in Craig cemetery under direction of Grant Mortuary. She was born June 27, 1985, in Craig to Ray and Cyndee (Schulze) Owens. She grew up in Craig and was a 2003 graduate of Moffat County High School, where she was a member of the soccer and swim teams. She also belonged to Key Club and National Honor Society and volunteered at Joyful Noisemakers and other church youth activities. She majored in communications at Montana State University-Billings, where she attended two years before taking off a year to live and work in Casper and Sheridan as a waitress. She returned to MSU-Billings and finished the spring semester with a 3.5 grade-point average while undergoing chemotherapy. She enjoyed all crafts, shopping in thrift stores, and spending time outdoors, especially hunting with her father and brothers. She collected bottles and made picture montages and script lettering. Survivors, all of Craig, include her parents; two brothers, Caleb and Chayton; and her grandparents, George and Sharon Durham and Dee and Iris Owens. Memorials may be made to the Cassie Owens Scholarship fund at the Bank of Colorado in Craig or at Grant Mortuary.

Maxine Elliott

Former Sheridan resident Maxine Elliott, 87, of Eugene, Ore., died Sept. 16, 2007, in Grandview Rehabilitation and Specialty Care in Junction City, Ore. Graveside services will be later in Oregon. Mrs. Elliott was born June 20, 1920, in Sheridan to Thomas and Maudie Cotton. She grew up and attended school here. She married Walter Elliott on March 21, 1943, in Yuma, Ariz. She lived in Santa Ana and Torrance, Calif., before moving to Saudi Arabia in 1957, where Mr. Elliott worked as an aircraft mechanic. She returned to the United States in 1963, living in Myrtle Point, Ore., before moving to Eugene in 1970. She enjoyed travel, dancing and participating in organizations. She was a member of Pearl Harbor Survivors Association, Willamette Valley Chapter Group, Irvine Grange and First Christian Church of Eugene. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1993. Survivors include a son, Jack of Sheridan; and one grandson. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Research Center, Mayo Clinic, 200 First St. SW, Rochester, MN 55905.

Robert R. `Rob' Rogers

Former Sheridan resident Robert R. Rob Rogers, 43, of Cheyenne died Sept. 23, 2007, of natural causes in Cheyenne Regional Medical Center. Vigil will be 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes. Mass will be 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Cathedral with the Rev. Bill Hill as celebrant. Mr. Rogers was born Nov. 1, 1963 in Denver to Ranger and Rowena Emery Rogers. He lived in Sheridan before moving to Cheyenne five years ago. He was a federal public defender and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Wyoming Bar Association and the Cheyenne Soccer Association. He was preceded in death by his father. Survivors include a son, James MacGregor Mac Rogers of Cheyenne; his mother of Parker, Colo.; and five sisters, Susan Rogers Livenick of Las Vegas, Jeanette Rogers of New Haven, Conn., Roxana Rogers DeSole of South Africa, Lorna Rogers Burgess of Norwood, Colo., and Sarah Blythe Rogers of Boulder, Colo.

Merrill George Nay

Memorial services for Merrill George Nay, 87, of Sheridan will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, followed by a commitment service with military honors in the Elks Section of Sheridan Municipal cemetery. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mr. Nay died Sept. 20, 2007, in Westview Health Care Center. Cremation has taken place. He was born July 1, 1920, in Richfield, Utah, to Shirl and Ella Nay. He graduated from Wasatch Academy in Mount Pleasant, Utah, and enlisted in the Navy. He served in the South Atlantic during World War II until his honorable discharge in 1945. He received the Navy and Marine Corps Medal for Heroism. He married Virginia Erickson; she died in 1984. He married Ruth Schreibeis on March 7, 1987. Mr. Nay was construction supervisor for N.A. Nelson Construction for 38 years. He enjoyed fishing, traveling in a recreational vehicle, motorcycling, family picnics and spending time with family and friends. In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Judy Joy, Jan Winkler and Sue Spencer; two stepchildren, Barbara Blaney and Irv Blaney, both of South Dakota; a sister, Sue Brudvig of California; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Betty Thompson

Betty Thompson, 82, of Alliance, Neb., died Sept. 17, 2007, in Box Butte General Hospital in Alliance. She was mother of Randy Thompson of Sheridan. Memorial services were Friday in Alliance. Mrs. Thompson was born May 14, 1925, in Edgemont, S.D., to William and Esther Rounds. She had lived in Alliance for 60 years. She was director of the Alliance Nutrition Center and founder of the Swingin' Seniors singing group. She was named the Alliance Times-Herald's 2005 Person of the Year. She worked for 35 years as a hairdresser. She was a member of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, the Rebekahs, Good Sam Camping Club, Burlington Northern Camping Club and the Red Hat Society. She was past president of the Eagles Auxiliary and B.P.O. Does. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl A.; her twin brother, Bill; and a sister, Pearl. In addition to her son, survivors include a daughter, Penny Thompson of Alliance; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Kenneth Ruff

Memorial services for Kenneth Ruff, 87, of Sheridan will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Kane Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Derryberry officiating. Mr. Ruff died Sept. 13, 2007, in Westview Health Care Center. Cremation has taken place. He was born Oct. 27, 1919, in Sheridan to David A. and Jennie Symons Ruff. He grew up and graduated from high school here. He married Betty MacCatherine in Sheridan on Aug. 2, 1941. He served with the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during World War II. He worked for Mountain Bell for 42 years, until Jan. 18, 1982, when he retired. He was a life member of Telephone Pioneers of America, an honorary life member of Communication Workers of America, and a life member of Sheridan Elks Lodge 520. He was also a member of Kalif Shrine Temple and a 50-year member of First United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife and one grandson. Survivors include a daughter, Nancy R. Fowkes of Danville, Calif.; two sons, David K. of Sheridan and James B. of Longmont, Colo.; a sister, Leona R. Businga of Winnebago, Ill.; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Kalif Shriner's Crippled Children's Fund, 145 W. Loucks St., Sheridan, WY 82801.

Nelson M. Crider

Nelson M. Crider, 47, of Sheridan died Sept. 14, 2007, in his residence of apparent natural causes. Private family services will be later. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Crider was born May 7, 1960, in Sheridan to Dr. John and Marilyn (Weber) Crider. He grew up and graduated from high school in Sheridan and worked on area ranches. He served in the Wyoming National Guard for four years. He graduated and received certification as a farrier from Oregon State Farrier School, then returned to Sheridan, where he worked shoeing horses and as a carpenter for several construction companies. He enjoyed dancing. He was preceded in death by his father; a brother, John A.; and his twin brother, Neal. Survivors include his mother of Sheridan; three brothers, Michael, Kyle and Kelly, all of Sheridan; and a sister, Karen Grimes of Jackson. Memorials may be made to Sheridan High School Rodeo Club in care of Cindy Gill, HCR 44, Box 41, Wyola, MT 59089.

Helen Lillian Grover Creek

BUFFALO - Helen Lillian Grover Creek, 80, of Buffalo died Sept. 14, 2007, in Amie Holt Care Center in Buffalo. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Willow Grove cemetery in Buffalo with the Rev. Tom Saur officiating. Visitation will be 1-10 p.m. today and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday in Adams Funeral Home Chapel in Buffalo. Memorials may be made to the Beckie Wiley Scholarship Fund at Central Wyoming College in care of the funeral home.

Lucille Joyce Grigsby

BUFFALO - Lucille Joyce Grigsby, 71, of Buffalo died Sept. 12, 2007, in Johnson County Health Care Center from complications of diabetes. Private family services are planned. Donald Kramer

Donald Kramer, 71, of Ranchester died Sept. 13, 2007, at Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at Kane Funeral Home, Pastor William Heine officiating. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, memorials may benefit the Ranchester Fire Department.

Edna Mae Heavey

Edna Mae Heavey, 83, of Sheridan died Aug. 30, 2007, in Sheridan Manor. Inurnment of her cremains will be in the family plot in Cody. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Ms. Heavey was born June 5, 1924, to Ed and Estelle Heavey. Because of disabilities, she was cared for at home until age 18, when she moved to the Lander Training School. She moved to Rehabilitation Enterprises of North Eastern Wyoming in 1993 and lived in the Sheridan Avenue Group Home until her death. She was preceded in death by four sisters and a baby brother.
