James William Phelan of Sheridan passed away on Wednesday, May 16, 2001 at the age of 61.

Mr. Phelan was born on December 18, 1939, in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, to William M. and Dorothy Mae (Currier) Phelan. He graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1957 and married Doreen E. Scanlon on June 10, 1967, in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. Jim and his family moved to Sheridan in 1980.

Jim was a member of the American Legion Drum and Bugle Corps, dart ball league, and the Moose Lodge. He also enjoyed Blackpowder shooting and fishing and his grandchildren.

Preceding Jim in death were his parents and two sisters, Janet Lund and Lois Hopper.

He is survived by his wife Doreen of Sheridan; three children, Rhonda M. Kerr of Monroe, Washington, Lois E. Phelan of Gillette, Wyoming, and Jon Winslow of Whitinsville, Massachusetts; and four grandchildren, Madison E. Kerr of Monroe, Washington, Nicholas J. Murphy of Fort Collins, Colorado, Rylie W. Richardson of Elk Mountain, Wyoming, and Kelsey Winslow of Whitinsville, Massachusetts.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 22, 2001, at Kane Funeral Home with Reverend Doug Goodwin officiating. Kane Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Diabetes Foundation in care of Delphine Toner, First Interstate Bank, P.O. Box 2007, Sheridan, WY 82801.

Ruth Phillips Age 94, of Sheridan, WY
Died Sunday, April 29, 2001, in Sheridan, Manor
Born August 11, 1906, in Sheridan, WY
Parents - Andrew & Beulah (Townsend) Hammontree

She grew up and attended schools in Sheridan. She married Herbert ôCaseö Phillips on April 27, 1926, in Roundup, MT. They ranched near Sonnette, MT. In 1951, they moved to Hamilton, MT, and ranched there until 1954 when they returned to Sonnette. They ranched at Sonnette until 1970 when Mr. Phillips died. She then moved into Sheridan to be near her daughter. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, crocheting, gardening, crossword puzzles, games, puzzles and animals.

Preceded in death by one son Alvin, brother Ray Hammontree and a sister Evelyn Norton.

Della Mae Plachek Age 75 of Sheridan, WY
Died Wednesday, May 30, 2001, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County
Born July 15, 1925, in Sheridan
Parents - E.E. & Anna (Stocker) Sneath

She grew up and attended schools in Sheridan. She received her nurses training in Port Arthur, Texas. After returning to Sheridan, she married Louis Plachek on July 1, 1950, in Sheridan. She was a nurse at Memorial Hospital for 35 years and then 10 years at the V.A. Medical Center until she retired. She was a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Diamond Rebekah Lodge and Daughter’s of the Nile. She was Past Worthy Matron of Friendship Chapter 51 of Eastern Star and past Treasurer and Secretary of the Wyo. State License Practical Nurses Association. Della enjoyed raising orchids, gardening, playing cards, crocheting, dancing and old movies.

Preceded in death by her husband Louis and her sister Edna Morris.

Dorothy C. Prill
August 29, 1915 - April 27, 2001
Dorothy C. Prill, age 85 of Ranchester, WY, died Friday, April 27, 2001, in Westview Health Care Center, Sheridan.
She was born August 29, 1915, in Weld County, Colorado, to Julius & Bertha (Frieidriech) Kler

Dorothy spent many years as a florist in Denver, CO and Casper, WY. She married Fred A. Prill on September 9, 1957, in Casper. They lived in Sheridan until moving to Ranchester, WY. For many years, they spent winters in Phoenix, AZ and Kino Bay, Mexico. He hobbies were shell collecting, oil painting, maps, reading and antiques. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband, step-sons Leroy and David Prill and one great great granddaughter.

Dorothy is survived by a nephew Robert Kler & wife Barbara of Milwaukee, OR; daughter-in-law Yvonne Prill of Ranchester; grandsons Robert Prill & wife Linda of Sheridan, David Prill & wife Peggy of Alaska, Dan Prill & wife Margie of Great Falls, MT, Bud Prill & wife Terri of Ranchester, Ray Prill & wife Jan of San Francisco, and Charley Prill & wife Mary of Casper; thirteen great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren

Memorial service will be 10:00am on Thursday (May 3rd) from Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Rev. Wilbur Holz officiating. Interment of cremains will follow in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery.

Wade A. Redinger Age 35 of Sheridan, WY
Died Tuesday, June 19, 2001, of natural causes in the emergency room of Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County.
Born October 19, 1965, in Vancouver, WA
Parents - Paul & Grace (Massie) Redinger

The family moved to S. Dakota when he was a young boy and he graduated from high school in Spearfish, SD, in 1984. He moved to Colorado Springs, CO, where he worked construction and as a mechanic. He married Colette Coughlin on June 20, 1987, in Spearfish, SD. They lived in Colorado Springs until moving to Sheridan in May, 1988. He worked as an auto service technician for Valley Motor Honda until the present time. A member of the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church, he loved playing ball, camping, fishing and being outdoors with his children. He enjoyed woodworking and was an excellent cabinet maker.

Raymond R. Roop of Sheridan passed away at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County on Sunday, June 24, 2001, at the age of 70.

Mr. Roop was born on September 20, 1930, in Adrian, Michigan, to Melford T. and Thelma (Platt) Roop. He graduated from high school, and entered the U.S. Air Force in November 1950 and later served in Vietnam. After 20 years of service, Mr. Roop retired from the Air Force at the rank of Staff Sergeant in December 1970. Following his military service, Raymond worked for the U.S. Postal Service for over 20 years. He later met and married Opal (Galyen) Mills on September 1, 1987, in Anchorage, Alaska.

Raymond liked to read and watch television. He enjoyed spending his leisure time hunting and fishing. He was a member of the VFW, Elks Lodge and the American Legion.

Preceding Raymond in death were his parents and his sister, Jean (Roop) Webster. He is survived by his wife Opal of Sheridan; three children, Barbara Roop, Donna Sanden and Jerry Roop; five step-children, Gary Mills, Melvin Mills, Jeannie Mills, Lynden Mills, and Richard Mills; two grandchildren and seven step-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place, and interment will be in the Fort Richardson National Cemetery in Fort Richardson, Alaska. Kane Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Lung and Heart Foundation or donor=s choice in care of Delphine Toner, First Interstate Bank, P.O. Box 2007, Sheridan, WY 82801.

Clarence L. Roush Age 81 of Sheridan, WY
Died Tuesday, June 19, 2001, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County
Born December 17, 1919, in Sheridan
Parents - P.T. & Margaret (Hustiwaite) Roush

The family moved to Eugene, OR, when he was a young boy and he attended school there. Later they moved to Great Falls, MT, and he attended school. They returned to Sheridan and he graduated from Sheridan High School. He played high school football and track as well as participating in Golden Gloves Boxing. He married Cora Mattox in 1942 in Sheridan. They had four daughters. They later divorced. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1943 where he was in the submarine service during WWII. In 1956, he married Erlene Slayter in Sheridan. She had two daughters and they had one son. He was co-owner of Roush Plumbing and Heating until 1976 when he became the plumbing inspector for the City of Sheridan. He retired in 1990. An avid sports fan, he also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of American Legion, Kalif Shrine and directed the Oriental Band for 27 years. He was a 50 year member of Eagles #186 and Masonic Lodge #8 as well as a life member of the Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Union.

Preceded in death by two brothers Glen and Ralph and his sister Louise.
