Ulrus Eitel - 04/15/01

Funeral services for Ulrus "Ullie" Leroy Eitel of Moorcroft will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Prairie View Baptist Church in Moorcroft with the Rev. Robert Smoots officiating.

Burial will follow at the Moorcroft Cemetery with full military honors provided by VFW Post 8473 and American Legion Post 25.

Visitation will be one hour before services at the church.

Mr. Eitel, 80, died Wednesday, April 11, 2001, at the Fort Meade VA Medical Center in Fort Meade, S.D.

He was born Jan. 26, 1921, in Moorcroft to Charles Helmuth and Della (Beard) Eitel. He attended country school in Crook County near Moorcroft. He worked for the Conservation Corps in the Big Horn Mountains.

He was drafted into the U.S. Army in July 1944 and was honorably discharged in January 1947. He then returned to Moorcroft where he owned and operated a ranch for over 47 years. He spent his entire life working and living on his ranch until he went to the Fort Meade VA Medical Center.

He was a member of the VFW Post 8473 and a long-time member of the National Rifle Association.

He enjoyed guiding hunters every year on his land and looked forward to visiting with returning hunters year after year.

He is survived by his sister, Shirley Viergutz of Belle Fourche, S.D.; two nephews and four nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers.

Fidler-Roberts Funeral Chapel of Sundance is in charge of arrangements.

Margaret Stroup 12/1/2

Funeral services for Margaret Stroup, 98, of Sheridan, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Kane Funeral Home in Sheridan with Deacon Joe Kristufek officiating.

Rosary services will be at 7 p.m. Monday at Kane Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery.

Mrs. Stroup died on Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002, at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County.

She was born on Nov. 18, 1904, in Swan Lake, Minn., to Jacob and Mary (Giefer) Miesen. Following her graduation from high school, she earned her teaching degree and taught for about five years.

She married Harry A. Stroup at Holy Name Catholic Church in Sheridan, and raised children until going back to school in 1954 to get her business degree. Upon completion, she worked as a legal secretary for 16 years until her retirement in 1972.

Mrs. Stroup was a faithful member of Holy Name Catholic Church and the Council of Catholic Women and enjoyed her work in the Thrift Shop. She loved spending time with her family, reading, crocheting, puzzles and flowers.

She is survived by three sons, Jack Stroup and Ray Stroup both of Sheridan and Ned Stroup of Gillette; a daughter, Alice Fisher of Garfield, Wash.; 20 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Harold Stroup; daughters, Dorothy Shreve and Eilene Stroup; and her parents.

The family has requested that memorials be made in Mrs. Strop's name to Lion's Eye Bank in care of Delphine Toner, First Interstate Bank, P.O. Box 2007, Sheridan, WY 82801.

David Joseph Peterson - 02/11/01

A memorial service for David Joseph Peterson of Sundance will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Fidler-Roberts Funeral Chapel in Sundance with the Revs. Bill Haley and Charles Dustcher of the Four Corners Community Bible Church officiating.

Mr. Peterson was cremated and a private burial will take place at a later date.

He died Monday, Feb. 5, 2001, at the Crook County Memorial Hospital of natural causes. He was 85.

Mr. Peterson was born March 31, 1915, on the family ranch in Horton. He was the youngest child of Andrew and Mathilda (Hedman) Peterson.

He attended grade school at Green Mountain School, rural Sundance, Sundance High School, and he graduated from Newcastle High School in 1934.

He was active in sports in school and after graduation, he played baseball for the local teams. For a short period of time he worked in Oregon, then he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942. He received an honorable discharge in 1943 and returned to the family ranch.

On July 1, 1946, he married Anna Marie Simpson in Horton. They had two daughters.

He was a member of the Newcastle Senior Citizens Center and enjoyed playing cards there. He was a good hunter and marksman. He also enjoyed looking for rocks and fossils.

He is survived by his wife, Anna Peterson of Sundance; two daughters, Jean Peterson of Sundance and Diana Hazekamp of Goshen, N.Y.; two grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters, Hilma Clark, Annie Erickson, Minnie Roark, Elsie Lappe and Selma Chittim; and five brothers, Leonard Peterson, Andrew Peterson Jr., Emil Peterson, Louis Peterson and Edwin Peterson.

A memorial has been established.

Fidler-Roberts Funeral Chapel in Sundance is in charge of arrangements.

Ethel W. Matheson - 04/16/01

Funeral services for Ethel Willowbell Matheson, 90, of Jackson, will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Episcopal Church in Jackson.

Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Valley Mortuary in Jackson.

Burial will be in Matheson Cemetery, which is next to Southpark Cemetery in Jackson.

Mrs. Matheson died Saturday, April 14, 2001, at St. John's Living Center in Jackson of natural causes.

She was born August 1, 1910, on a sheep wagon on the Belle Fourche River near Gillette to Elmer and Alta Bryan Reno.

She ranched with her husband. She helped build the St. Francis on the Prairie Episcopal Church near Wright. She moved to Jackson in 1963.

Her hobbies included doing needlepoint, crocheting, knitting, riding horses, gardening and spending time outdoors.

She is survived by her daughter Carole Pahl of Victor, Idaho; four grandchildren; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
