Leota M. Donnelly Age 87 of Sheridan, WY
Died Thursday, July 19, 2001, in Westview Health Care Center, Sheridan
Born February 3, 1914, in Grant Township, Kansas
Parents - Charles & Mary (Sennett) Hiatt

She graduated from high school in Douglas, WY, and attended Chadron College in Nebraska. She married William Donnelly on January 12, 1935, in Chadron, NE. They lived in Casper, WY, and then moved to Sheridan. After retiring, they moved to Billings, MT, in 1990 for a few years and then returned to Sheridan. She enjoyed sewing, raising plants and flowers. She was a life member of Order of Eastern Star, Beauceant and Daughters of the Nile.

She was preceded in death by her three sisters.

Jack Dow, 77, of Sheridan, passed away on Wednesday, September 19, 2001, at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County.
Jack was born on April 8, 1924, to Bert and Emma (Urbanoski) Dow. He completed high school, and served in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper for two years. He married Dorothy Smith on October 8, 1946, in Hardin, Montana. Jack lived on the Dow ranch, which was homesteaded by his grandfather Jack, his entire life. He enjoyed his son=s football games and watching his grandsons= sports. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, and liked to take his grandsons hunting. He was always friendly and enjoyed a good joke.

Mr. Dow was a member of the Peter=s Grazing Association. He was a good neighbor and had a generous spirit. He proudly displayed his Quarter Circle D brand. Jack was also a member of the Big Horn Historical Society, and his grandfather surveyed the towns of Big Horn and Sheridan.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Alan Dow, his son Jack Dow, and his granddaughter Laura Dow. He is survived by his wife Dorothy of Sheridan; his son Bert Dow and wife Susan of Sheridan; two grandchildren Brandon and Kevin Dow of Sheridan; and two sisters Elizabeth Hager of Elk, WA, and Mary Long of Laramie, WY.

Memorial services will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 22, 2001 at Kane Funeral Home with Pastor Charles Gifford officiating. Interment will be in the Mount Hope Cemetery in Big Horn at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Big Horn High School Football Team in care of Delphine Toner, First Interstate Bank, P.O. Box 2007, Sheridan, WY, 82801.

Phyllis M. Garber Age 77 of Big Horn, WY
Died Thursday, July 5, 2001, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County
Born October 13, 1923, in Belmont, Nebraska
Parents - Glenn & Amy (Tollman) Miller

She grew up on the family ranch near Belmont and attended elementary school. She graduated from Crawford High School. She worked as a civil service employee at Fort Robinson, NE, until she married Victor Garber on June 10, 1943, in Crawford, NE. She became involved in the total operation of the family business in Big Horn keeping the corporate books. She cooked for the extended family, ranch hands and the many guests at the ranch. She provided home health care for her mother and mother-in-law and kept the books for the local ditch companies. She was a member of Life Link, Volunteer Hospice, Chapter T - P.E.O., Big Horn Women's Club, Mount Hope Cemetery Board, Republican Women, Farm Bureau, Wyoming Wool Growers, Experiment in International Living, Farm Youth Exchange. She enjoyed traveling, reading, gardening, assembling photo albums and hosting guests from around the world at the ranch.

Ellen R. Gunter Age 86 of Sheridan, WY
Died Monday, July 30, 2001, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County
Born June 23, 1915, in Leipzig, Germany
Parents - Josef & Maria (Seliger) Reinisch

The family came to the United States in 1927 to live in New York. She graduated high school and business school in New York City. She worked as a bookkeeper for an architectural firm until returning to Germany in 1937. She worked as a clerk/stenographer in Leipzig. In 1947, she taught German to children of the American Armed Forces in Bremerhaven, West Germany, until returning to the U.S. in 1951 when she came to Eaton’s Ranch near Sheridan. She was a bookkeeper at Eaton’s until 1954 when she moved into Sheridan and worked as a secretary/clerk at N.A. Nelson Construction until 1960. She married Albert Gunter on July 29, 1958, in Sheridan. They lived in Lander and Gillette, WY, until returning to Sheridan in 1967. She worked as a bookkeeper for Panetta Brothers until 1977. She was a member of Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile and Does Drove #127. She enjoyed reading, travel and animals.

Preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1995, one brother and her sister.

Hal Walter Hampton age 49, a former Sheridan resident
Died Monday, August 13, 2001, in the Wyoming Medical Center, Casper, WY, of a heart attack.
Born August 27, 1952, in Sheridan to Tom & Carneeda (Sampson) Hampton

He grew up in Sheridan. Married Deborah Crabtree on May 29, 1971. They were married 18 years and had four children. He lived in Montana and Colorado for a short time and then settled back in Gillette, WY, to be near his family. Many who knew Hal will never forget his loud unpolished laugh or his determined attitude towards life. Hal was an intense man who loved hunting, fishing, music, riding motorcycles and to be just outrageously wild. He had an extraordinary talent as an artist and his art went beyond simplicity and it touched the lives of those who saw it. He will be missed and remembered in our hearts.

His parents and a granddaughter Charidy Hack of Gillette preceded him.

Charles Andrew Harbel, 77, of Sheridan passed away at his home on Friday, August 24, 2001.

Charles was born in Sargent, NE, on January 12, 1924, to Andrew Harbel and Anna (Shinn) Harbel. He attended rural elementary schools and high school in Taylor, NE. He moved to Sheridan in the spring of 1940 to work at Mydland Dairy and later at Moss Ranch near Parkman.

He married Helen Foster on December 24, 1943, in Sheridan. Charlie worked at the Kane and Burns= ranches, service stations, Sally Forbes= dairy and ranched on Meade Creek. He worked at RENEW for four years before retiring in 1984. Charlie was an active member of the Sheridan County Farm Bureau, serving as president of Big Goose, Big Horn and the Sheridan County Farm Bureau. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and traveled in the U.S., Kenya and the British Isles.

Charlie is survived by his wife; two sons, Larry and wife Twyla in MD and Jerry and wife Merikay in VA; and daughter Judi and husband Tom in CO. He has five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Mary Kraft of Sheridan and Ella Shrader of CA and one brother, Maurice, also of Sheridan.

At Charlie=s request, he will be cremated and there will be no funeral service. Memorials can be sent directly to RENEW at 1969 S. Sheridan Ave., Sheridan, WY 82801, or to RENEW in care of Delphine Toner, First Interstate Bank, P.O. Box 2007, Sheridan, WY 82801.

Walter F. Harris Age 89 of Sheridan, WY
Died Monday, August 13, 2001, in Westview Health Care Center, Sheridan
Born August 11, 2001, in Alliance, Nebraska
Parents - Walter & Emma (Kulper) Harris

He came to Sheridan at the age of 5. He grew up in Sheridan and graduated from Sheridan High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force during WWII. He married Ada Gleason on September 5, 1953, in Sheridan. He worked as a reporter for the Sheridan Press where his beat was Main Street of Sheridan. By the time retired in 1987, he had become the Sports Editor. He enjoyed sports and refereed high school basketball and football games for many years. He also enjoyed working the concession stands at the ballpark and at rodeo events. He was a member Elks Lodge #520, Eagles Lodge and the American Legion.

Preceded in death by his wife Ada; sister Nellie Harris; brother Floyd Harris.
