Bertha A. Eubank Age 92 of Sheridan, WY
Died Monday, February 4, 2002, in Sheridan Manor
Born February 21, 1909, in Mississippi
Parents - Marshall & Minta (Hurlbertt) Brown

She grew up in Mississippi, Canada and then Denver, CO. She worked for Texaco in Denver. In 1930, Bertha married Clinton Eubank in Denver. The lived in Denver, Sheridan, WY, Casper, WY, and Cheyenne, WY, before moving to California in 1952. She worked in Procurement and as a bookkeeper for U. S. Government Civil Service until retiring. They returned to Sheridan in 1991 to be near their daughter. Mr. Eubank died in 2000. She was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Daughters of the Nile, Beauceant and a fifty year member of Eastern Star.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers, one sister and her son Richard.

Rose T. Favero, 78, of Sheridan passed away on Wednesday, February 27, 2002, at her residence.
Mrs. Favero was born November 24, 1923, in Dietz #8, Wyoming, to Leopold and Rose (Krzic) Podgornik. Following graduation from high school, Rose married Alex Favero in Hardin, Montana, on June 1, 1947. She worked as a cosmetologist for many years, and enjoyed gardening and handwork.

Mrs. Favero was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Alex; and her four brothers Louis “Louie”, Leo, Tony, and Edward Podgornik. She is survived by her five nieces, Lee Morgareidge and husband Bill of Sheridan, Roberta Cooley of Billings, Montana, Lori Daniels and husband Lindon of California, Toni and husband Roy of California, and Vickie Potter and husband Richard of Minnesota; her five nephews, Jim Podgornik and wife Kim of Sheridan, Jon Podgornik and wife Lorene of Sheridan, Guy Podgornik of Washington, D.C.and John Podgornik and wife Renata of South Dakota, and George Matthews and wife Esther of Sheridan; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

Rosary services will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 5, 2002, at Kane Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 6, 2002, at Kane Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Eagles section of the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Kane Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Memorials may be made in Rose’s name to the Sheridan Dog and Cat Shelter in care of Francis Winters, Community First National Bank, P.O. Box 6000, Sheridan, WY 82801.

Jane C. Fowler, 88, of Sheridan, passed away on Saturday, March 30, 2002, at her residence.
Mrs. Fowler was born on November 13, 1913, to Benjamin and Cecelia (Tarbell) Crangle in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Following high school, she married Charles W. Fowler of Sheridan in 1934. She worked as a secretary for Sunkist Products for 40 years, and retired in 1985.

Mrs. Fowler was preceded in death by her husband Charles in 1952, and her brother John Crangle. She is survived by her daughters Lexy C. Fowler of Sheridan, Wyoming, and Frances Cooper-Saunders and husband Gordon of Escondido, California; her two sons John W. Fowler and wife Jackie of Lake Havasu, Arizona, and Peter T. Fowler of Ramona, California; her five grandchildren; and her two great-grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place, and at Mrs. Fowler’s request no services will be held. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the donor’s choice in care of Delphine Toner, First Interstate Bank, P.O. Box 2007, Sheridan, WY, 82801.

Barbara Gibbons, 55, loving mother and friend, of Sheridan passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2002, at her residence.
Ms. Gibbons was born on June 22, 1946, in Sheridan, Wyoming, to Jack and Ruth (Perkins) Gibbons. Barbara married Damian Gonzales in Denver, Colorado, on June 22, 1965, and they later divorced. She moved to Sheridan in 1978 and has been a Sheridan resident for the last 24 years. She raised two daughters on her own and put both through college. At the same time, she obtained her Associate’s degree at Sheridan College, and was pursuing an additional degree in computer science. She worked faithfully as a legal secretary for the firm of Yonkee & Toner for 17 years. She enjoyed learning and working with anything scientific, especially inventing new ways to help people in need. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her loved ones.

Ms. Gibbons was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her two daughters Ruthina and Damiana Gibbons of Sheridan; her three brothers, Greg Gibbons of Sheridan, Roger Gibbons of Loveland, Colorado, and Ray Gibbons and wife Shelly of Choteau, Montana; her aunt Betty Rose of Sheridan; and her uncle Bill Perkins and wife Carole of Sheridan.

A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 6, 2002, at Kane Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 7, 2002, at First Presbyterian Church, with Pastor Heather Bartlow officiating. Kane Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made in Barbara’s name to the Advocacy and Resource Center in care of Kay Roush, First Federal Savings Bank, P.O. Box 6007, Sheridan, WY 82801.

Hila M. Gilbert
1906 - 2002
Hila M. Gilbert, age 96 of Sheridan, WY, died Sunday, February 10, 2002, in Sheridan Manor. She was born January 31, 1906, in Youngstown, Missouri, to Alton H. and Daisy A. (Goodwin) Garard.

She grew up and attended schools in Missouri, Powell, WY and Billings, MT, before graduating from Sheridan High School in 1924. She graduated from Heiman's Business School in Sheridan. Hila married Harold Gilbert on March 5, 1927, in Sheridan. They lived in Laramie, WY, until they moved back to Sheridan in the early 1940's. She assisted in organizing the Wyoming Artists Assoc. in the 1930's and was an officer in the State League of Nursing. She was appointed by Governor Milward Simpson as a founding member of the State Mental Health Commission and was also appointed to the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education. She was an officer in the Wyoming Archeological Society and enjoyed going on many digs. As a member of the Sheridan Chapter of the Wyoming Historical Society, she helped save the Sheridan Inn and Trail End.

Hila was the volunteer secretary for Francis Lewis Sinclair and helped him found the All American Indian Days. She did research through friendship with the Cheyenne Indians for the book Big Bar Pourier, which she wrote with George & Bernice Harris. The Cheyenne Indians adopted her and gave her the name "Ve Ho Na" which means "Chief Woman". She was executive secretary of the Continental Confederation of Adopted Indians from 1960 - 1968 as well as Chairman of the Indian Affairs Committee of the State Women's Club. Governor's Jack Gage and Clifford Hansen appointed her as the Wyoming Representative to the Governor's Interstate Indian Council in 1962 & 1963.

Hila enjoyed painting and being outdoors. She loved people and made friends with everyone she met. She was preceded in death by one daughter Vicki and her sister Velma Pritchard.

Hila is survived by her son Kenneth Gilbert of Sheridan; daughter Cheri Dollison & husband Fred of Sheridan; and granddaughter Erin Dollison.

Private family services will be held at a later date with Champion Ferries Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may benefit the Sheridan Senior Citizen Center, 211 Smith St., Sheridan.

Louise Gill passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2002 in Las Vegas, New Mexico, after an extended illness. Funeral services were held in New Mexico. Mrs. Gill is survived by her daughter Gwen Burgess and husband John of Big Horn, Wyoming, and her grandson William Russell of Big Horn, Wyoming. Kane Funeral Home assisted in the arrangements. The family has requested that memorials be made in Louise’s name to the Sheridan Senior Center, 211 Smith Street, Sheridan, WY 82801.

Barbara G. Gutz age 76 of Sheridan, WY
Died Tuesday, January 9, 2002, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County
Born August 28, 1925, at Burns, WY
Parents - Robert & Anna "Lennie" (McConnaughey) Gutz

She attended country school for two years and then lived with an aunt in Cheyenne, WY, to complete grade school and graduated from high school in 1942. She received her B.S. degree in home economics from the University of Wyoming. She married John Mason Gutz on June 30, 1946. She taught school for fifteen years in several towns in Wyoming including Afton, Pinedale, Casper, Rawlins, Lander, Sheridan and Big Horn where her husband was employed. They came to Sheridan in 1961. She was the first Senior Citizen Center director and they were the first managers of Sheridan Square. For fifteen years, before retirement in 1995, she was the Western Welcome hostess in Sheridan. She was a member of the First Congregational Church and Daughters of the Nile. She was active in several volunteer activities and enjoyed crafts, playing cards and being with her family. He husband John preceded her in death in June, 2001.

Marie Haigh, 69, of Sheridan, formerly of Seattle, Washington, passed away on Friday, March 1, 2002.
Ms. Haigh was born August 13, 1932, in Fargo, North Dakota, to William and Florence (Kepler) Brownlee. She worked as a nurse’s aid for many years, and enjoyed gardening. Marie loved shrimp and the color red.

Ms. Haigh was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her daughter Tracy Morris of Sheridan, and her two sons, Rick Harfield of Loveland, Colorado, and Todd Harfield.

Cremation has taken place, and private family services will be held at a later date. Kane Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Marie’s name to Hospice of the Big Horns in care of Delphine Toner, First Interstate Bank, P.O. Box 2007, Sheridan, WY 82801.

Marjorie Criswell Helms
1910 - 2002
Marjorie Criswell Helms, age 91, of Sheridan, WY, died Sunday, March 10, 2002, in Sheridan Manor. She was born September 25, 1910, in Princeton, Indiana, to William & Winifred (Brown) Criswell.

She grew up in Indiana and graduated from Bedford High School in 1928 in Bedford, IN. She attended Art School at John Herron Art Institute in Indianapolis, IN. Marjorie married Dr. Edward S. Post on September 2, 1929, in Vincennes, IN. They came to Sheridan in 1951 and Dr. Post died in 1961. Marjorie took Library Science classes from the University of Utah and became the Director of the Carnegie Library in Sheridan in 1962. She married Ora Helms on June 5, 1963, in Sheridan. She continued to direct the Carnegie Library until she retired. Mr. Helms died in 1989. Marjorie was very active in the Sheridan community being a member and officer of many organizations including Sheridan Woman's Club, Sheridan Garden Club, Daughters of the Nile, Eastern Star, Beauceant, Historical Society, Audubon Society, Daughters of the American Revolution, Beta Sigma Phi, Fiber Guild, Tuesday Threaders, African Violet Club, Friends of the Library, Library Foundation Board and First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed antique embroidery, spinning, weaving, knitting, crocheting, quilting, sewing, genealogy, gardening and flowers.

Marjorie is also preceded in death by her son William Post in 1978 and one great grandchild.

Marjorie is survived by her daughter Mary McGlothlin & husband Everett of Sheridan; grandchildren David C. Post of Spearfish, SD, Denise A. Post of Mesa, AZ, Kathryn L. Spahn of Rapid City, SD, Mary M. McGlothlin of San Diego, CA, and Rebecca A. Oden of Muscat, Oman; and 9 great grandchildren.

Viewing will be from 9:00am until 5:00pm on Thursday & Friday (Mar. 14th & 15th) from Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 10:00am on Saturday from First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Joseph Keys officiating. Interment will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

Memorials may benefit the Library Foundation, 335 W. Alger St., Sheridan or First United Methodist Church.
