Mildred Inez (Moeller) Martin

Soldotna resident Mildred Inez (Moeller) Martin died Sunday, May 19, 2002, at her home. She was 74.

Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Soldotna United Methodist Church. Pastor Dale Kelley will officiate. Viewing will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will follow the service at Spruce Grove Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Martin was born Sept. 14, 1927, in Westphalia Falls, Texas. She moved to Anchorage with her husband in 1948. In 1960, they moved to Soldotna. She worked for the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District as a cook and later retired from Kenai Peninsula College working as a custodian. After she retired, she owned and operated God's Extended Hand Christian Gift Store.

Mrs. Martin was a member of the Soldotna United Methodist Church. She loved her homestead, "Peaceful Acres."

"Grandma Martin will always be remembered for her loving generosity to family, friends, neighbors, church, community and worldwide relief efforts. She and grandpa left a legacy of sacrificial love and devotion as husband and wife, parents, grandparents and great-grandparents, " her family said.

Mrs. Martin was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, John W. Martin, and a great-granddaughter, Zhanessa L. Martin.

Survivors include a son, John W. Martin Jr.; two daughters, Devon A. Martin and Bobbie J. Jackson and her husband, Harold A. Jackson III; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Memorials are not requested but may be sent to the charity of the sender's choice or mailed to Pastor Dale Kelley, 158 S. Binkley St., Soldotna, AK 99669 and designated for continued rehabilitation cost of Mildred's son, John W. Martin Jr., a recent stroke victim.

Arrangements were made by Peninsula Memorial Chapel.

Charles 'Charlie' Parker

A funeral service for Charles 'Charlie' Parker will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Soldotna Church of the Nazarene. A viewing will begin at 1 p.m.

A reception will follow the funeral.

Margaret 'Maggie' (Steik) Rucker

Anchor Point resident Margaret "Maggie" (Steik) Rucker died Thursday, May 16, 2002, at South Peninsula Hospital in Homer after a long bout with cancer.

Interment will be at the Stariski Cemetery near Anchor Point, where her husband is buried.

Mrs. Rucker was born in 1929 to Chris and Julia Steik, the fifth of 17 children. She met and married her husband, John T. Rucker Jr., in 1950.

She was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post No. 10221 in Anchor Point.

Mrs. Rucker was preceded in death by her husband and a son, Roger Dale Rucker, both in 1986.

She is survived by her siblings, Leo, Alvin, Eugene, John and Mike Steik, Marion Hostetter and Doris Kelly, all of Ninilchik, Carl Steik of Anchorage and Shirley Warner of Twainharte, Calif.; children, Jennifer McGrady and her husband, Richard, of Kenai, Christopher John Rucker of Anchorage, Vonnie Marie Fry and her husband, Dennis, of Hayfork, Calif., and Russell Eugene Rucker of Anchor Point; grandchildren, Charlie Yamada and Felicia Edwards of Kenai, Justin McGrady of Willard, Mo., and Heidi, Dennis Jr. and Dillon Fry; and four great-grandchildren.

Arrangements were made by the Homer Funeral Home.

Susan Lanora Wills

Anchorage resident Susan Lanora Wills died in her home May 5, 2000. She was 43.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Soldotna Church of God, located on the corner of Binkley Street and Redoubt Avenue. Pastor Alan Humphries will officiate.

Ms. Wills was born in Ferndale, Mich., June 7, 1956. She moved to Alaska when she was 3 years old. She graduated from Kenai Central High School in 1974.

She is survived by her mother and stepfather, Marjorie and John Torgerson, of Kasilof; father and stepmother, Jerre and Winnie Wills and half-sister Nahanni, of Homer; daughters, Leila Kimbrell, of Anchorage, Marisa Kimbrell, of Kasilof, and Zara Lounsbury, of Nikiski; daughter and son-in-law, Jolene and John Lehmann, of North Carolina; son, Levi Lounsbury of Nikiski; sisters, Cheryl Ess, of Wasilla, Laurie Lovett, of Texas, and Cindy Birch, of Washington; brother Eric Wills, of Washington; grandson, Noah Lehmann; three nieces, two nephews and numerous aunts and uncles.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Heart Association or a charity of one's choice.

Seraphim Ukatish

Nanwalek resident Seraphim "Kulickeq" Timothy Ukatish died Friday, May 12, 2000, at his home in Nanwalek. He was 54.

Funeral services were held May 15 at the St. Sergius and St. Herman of Valaamo Church in Nanwalek. Father Sergie Active officiated. Burial was in the Nanwalek Cemetery. Pallbearers included Mike Radtke, Jeff McMullen, Sergie Moonin, Sperry Moonin Jr., Sperry Ash, and Leo Ash.

Mr. Ukatish was born May 2, 1946, in Nanwalek where he was raised and educated. From 1965 to 1967 he served in the U.S. Army overseas in Vietnam. Mr. Ukatish lived in Kenai for a year in 1972 and then in Kodiak at the St. Herman Seminary from September 1985 to May of 1986.

Mr. Ukatish helped to develop the current writing system and curriculum for the Sugtestun language. For 18 years he worked as a bilingual instructor teaching Sugtestun for the kindergarten through 12 grades at the Nanwalek Elementary-High School. Mr. Ukatish was a reader with the St. Sergius and St. Herman of Valaamo Church of Nanwalek. He had received an award from the English Bay Corporation and was the first president for the corporation. In addition, he was part of the foundation of the Chugachmiut non-profit organization.

Mr. Ukatish enjoyed fishing, teaching ivory carving, and he specialized in upgrading computers.

According to the family, "Dad's last years were an Alaskan dream; wake up, fish all day and giving to families, helping to preserve the Sugtestun language by collecting data, documenting words and sharing with the community, upgrading, downloading, and reviving computers while being around the people he loved most."

Mr. Ukatish is preceded in death by his mother, Anesia Ukatish; father, Timothy Ukatish; brother, Ben Ukatish; and sister, Annie Tanape.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Macky and Anna Ukatish of Nanwalek; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Michael Radtke of Nanwalek; daughter, Krissy Ukatish of Nanwalek; son, Seraphim Ukatish Jr. of Nanwalek; brother-in-law, Herman Tanape of Nanwalek; sister, Martha Alexander of Minto; sisters and brothers-in-law, Natalie and Vincent Kvasnikoff and Alex and Margaret Moonin of Port Graham; grandchildren, Raissa Ukatish, Ivan Radtke, Ephimia Wilson, Antone Ukatish, Timothy Ukatish, Larry Ukatish, Vernea Ukatish, Natasha Ukatish and Nicolai Ukatish; godchildren, Millie Kvasnikoff, Gordon Kvasnikoff, Leo Ash, Sperry Ash, Sonya Ash, Zoya Greene, Jesse Evans, DJ Brewster, Quanah Brewster, Amanda Moonin, Kilann Moonin, Tony Brewster and Samantha Moonin.

Dorothea Mae (Thorson) Kimbrel

Dorothea Mae (Thorson) Kimbrel died Tuesday, May 2, 2000, in Spokane, Wash. She was 83.

She was born to Ethel Sparks and Fred Dolby Oct. 17, 1916, in Great Falls, Mont. She graduated from Great Falls High School in 1936. She later served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

After the war, she moved to Alaska in 1951, where she worked as a waitress and married Alvin E. Kimbrel in 1954. In 1959, they homesteaded in Kenai, where she resided until 1996, when she moved to Anchorage to be closer to her family and for medical reasons. In 1999, she moved to Spokane with her son and grandson.

"She will be missed greatly by her friends and family, " her family said.

Mrs. Kimbrel was preceded in death by her husband, Ed, who died in 1990, and her sister, Charlotte Bowman.

She is survived by her sisters, Margerette Johnston of Castle Rock, Wash., and Opal Matye of Great Falls; brother, Clifford Thorson of Anaheim, Calif.; son, Ed Kimbrel Jr. and grandson, Kyle Kimbrel, both of Spokane; and many nieces and nephews.

Arrangements were made by Riplinger Funeral Home in Spokane.

Nancy Kay Littleton

Former Kenai Peninsula resident Nancy Kay Littleton of Kalama, Wash., died Sunday, May 13, 2001, at Southwest Medical Center after a long illness. She was 58.

A celebration of life was held Saturday in Kalama. A service will be held in Alaska at a later date.

Mrs. Littleton was born Sept. 21, 1942, in Shawnee, Okla., to Alvin and Floria Littleton.

She lived in Alaska for 12 years before moving to California and then to Kalama.

In 1997, she retired as a secretary from the Stockton Post Newspaper in California.

"She was a very outgoing person, very loving, who had many friends and a large extended family. She enjoyed playing cards with the ladies, " her family said. "She was a mother to many and a friend to all who knew her. Mom touched our hearts and brought love and happiness to us all. She will be greatly missed."

She was preceded in death by four sisters, four brothers and her parents.

She is survived by daughters Sherrie Dobson, Norma Gibson and Nancy Ross, all of Sterling; sons Bucky Gibson of Anchorage, and Paul Gibson of Kalama; sisters Ruth Littleton, Vesta Rowe and Lahoma Rowe, all of Oklahoma; brothers Alvin, Gary and Earnest Littleton, all of Oklahoma; nine grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Robert L. 'Bob' Harris Sr.

Former Kenai resident Robert L. "Bob" Harris Sr. died of an aneurysm on Friday, May 19, 2000, at Morton General Hospital in Morton, Wash. He was 74.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Morton Chapel of the Brown Mortuary, with pastor Don Self officiating. A reception will follow at the Morton Senior Center. A private inurnment will follow at a later date.

Mr. Harris was born March 20, 1926, in Gary, Ind., to Edgar and Myrtle (Timm) Harris, where he grew up. He joined the U.S. Navy and served in the South Pacific during World War II. Following the war, Mr. Harris attended the Seattle School of Photography.

Mr. Harris married Irene May Cheney on Jan. 27, 1949, in Morton. They resided in Glenoma, Wash., for three years as he worked in the logging industry. The family then moved to Spokane, Wash., where Mr. Harris worked for Xerox for 15 years, and then moved to Olympia, Wash., where he worked for Cascade Pole.

In 1982, the family moved to Kenai, where Mr. Harris worked as a commercial fisher, bush pilot and owned and operated a Bible bookstore for six years with his wife. In 1992, the family moved back to Glenoma, where they operated "The Bible Book Store" in Morton for four years.

The family said, "He was an avid photographer, loved to fish, hunt and was a pilot for over 40 years."

Mr. Harris was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Virginia Henderson and Jeannie Smith.

He is survived by Irene, his wife of 51 years; his sons David of Kenai and Robert of Olympia; his daughter, Sharon Carlson of Kenai; his brother, Wayne of Grand Terrace, Calif.; and six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Arrangements were made by Morton Chapel of Morton.

Nicholas James Merriett Allen

Lifelong Soldotna resident Nicholas James Merriett Allen died Saturday, Aug. 10, 2002, in Soldotna from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. He was 17.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Peninsula Christian Center in Soldotna with Pastor Jim Duncan officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Peninsula Memorial Chapel.

Nick was born April 5, 1985, in Soldotna. He was a student at Soldotna High School and would have been a senior this year.

He worked for Big Kmart during the summer of 2001 and was currently working at Pizza Boys.

He attended Peninsula Christian Center.

He enjoyed being with his friends, building computers, working on stereo equipment and listening to music.

"You were a wonderful son and brother. Our pain is great but we know you are happy and pain-free with the Lord. You were our Alaska surprise. We will always love and remember you. Thanks for always making us smile and laugh. See you in heaven, dear Nicholas, " his family said.

He is survived by his parents, James and Judy Allen; sisters and brother-in-law, Stacy Olson and Meredith and Chris Pankratz; niece and nephew, Ashlynn and Anton Olson; great-grandmother, Arminta Blackwell; aunt and uncle, Jan and Steve Wright, all of Soldotna; brother-in-law, John Olson of Anchorage; paternal grandmother, Ruth Allen of Skidmore, Mo.; maternal grandparents, Byron and Betty Osthoff of Shambaugh, Iowa; and many aunts, uncles and cousins in the Lower 48 states.

Rebecca 'Becky' R. Noble

Rebecca "Becky" R. Noble, formerly of Kenai, died Sunday, Aug. 4, 2002, in Tucson, Ariz., after a short battle with cancer. She was 49.

At her request, no services were held.

Mrs. Noble was born March 26, 1953, in Yakima, Wash. She moved to Kenai when she was 5 and lived in various parts of Alaska until 1995.

She worked at Robinson's Mini-Mall for many years before retiring to Show Low, Ariz., in 1995. Her interests included raising horses, artifact hunting in Arizona and reading.

Mrs. Noble was preceded in death by her father, Richard Renecker, in 1986, and her sister, Susie, in 1950.

She is survived by her husband, Harvey Noble; mother-in-law, Jewel Simler of Show Low; mother, Betty Renecker; brother, Carl Renecker of Yakima; sisters, Donna Len of the Seattle area and Candy Kalar of Anchorage; many nieces and nephews; and "adopted" son and daughter Chris Adams of Wasilla and Wendy Croom of Show Low.

Arrangements were made by Owen's Mortuary in Show Low.
