Harold Jackson

Soldotna resident Harold Jackson died Saturday, May 19, 2001, at Providence Hospital in Anchorage. He was 71.

Services are pending at Peninsula Memorial Chapel.

Charles 'Charlie' Lincoln Parker

Soldotna resident Charles 'Charlie' Lincoln Parker died Wednesday, May 16, 2001, at Central Peninsula General Hospital in Soldotna. He was 79.

Services were held Saturday at the Soldotna Church of the Nazarene. Pastor Michael Staton officiated. Burial was held Monday at the Spruce Grove Memorial Park in Kasilof.

Mr. Parker was born Jan. 29, 1922, in Juneau to Esther Nelson Parker and Charles Lincoln Parker. Both sets of his grandparents took part in the early Alaska Gold Rush.

Mr. Parker lived in Anchorage from the age of 2 and graduated in 1940 from Anchorage High School.

From 1942 to 1945 he served as a pilot in the Navy during World War II. An ensign, he flew a Corsair while stationed aboard the aircraft carrier Midway. After the war, he graduated in 1948 from the University of Alaska Fairbanks with a degree in engineering.

He was an employee of Borne Associates, and he engineered the construction of airports in Dillingham and other Interior villages. He later helped with the building of the Homer and Seldovia airports while employed by the state of Alaska.

He worked on the first paving of the Soldotna airport, which was largely a volunteer effort that was completed in 1962.

"He felt this accomplishment by a 'little fourth class village' was unequaled anywhere, " the family said.

Mr. Parker also was a land surveyor and surveyed the first subdivision in Soldotna for Jack and Dolly Farnsworth in 1952. He became a permanent resident of Soldotna when he homesteaded 40 acres near the Y in 1961.

"Sharply interested in civic affairs, he sparked attention with letters to the editor and delighted in playing the muckraker, " the family said.

He acted as Soldotna city clerk in 1966 and served on the Soldotna City Council from 1972 to 1975. He also was president of the Greater Soldotna Chamber of Commerce in 1963 and received chamber awards for devoted service to young people and youth activities in 1973 and the governmental and civic award in 1979. He was appointed by Gov. Bill Egan to the first Alaska Pipeline Commission in 1974. He donated land for the Soldotna Senior Center and a city park.

After he retired, he and his wife, Katherine, operated the Map Shop in Soldotna.

"He enjoyed daily walks on the homestead with his dogs until February of this year. He was a lover of the out-of-doors, the natural beauties of the world, and particularly his home state and community, " the family said.

He was preceded in death by daughter, Nancy Gail.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Katherine, of Soldotna; daughter, Patricia Parker; and grandson, J. Parker Butzke of Anchorage.

Arrangements were made by Peninsula Memorial Chapel.

Cynthia L. Cobb

Kenai resident Cynthia L. Cobb died Friday, May 18, 2001, at the Providence Medical Center in Anchorage of heart failure. She was 40.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Kenai. A visitation will be held an hour prior to the funeral. Following the funeral, she will be buried at the Kenai City Cemetery. Pastor Dean Nichols will officiate.

Mrs. Cobb was born on April 27, 1961, in Astoria, Ore. She completed two years of college at Brigham Young University. She had been a resident of Alaska since September 1995, and lived in North Kenai and Kenai. She spent most of her adult life as a homemaker. Mrs. Cobb was a member of the First Baptist Church in Kenai. She enjoyed crafts, quilting, cross stitch and many other creative pursuits. She loved to sing and enjoyed offering that gift to God for his good pleasure.

"Cindi's greatest purpose in life was to pass her faith on to her six children and be a God-designed mate and partner to her husband. She will be missed, and yet we rejoice that she has gone on ahead to the reward that awaits all who know Christ Jesus, " the family wrote.

Mrs. Cobb is survived by her husband Tony, her children, Joshua, Nicole, Elias, Charles, Kendra, and Jesse; and her brothers, Jay and Ian.

Arrangements were made by Peninsula Memorial Chapel.

Wilbur William Geary

Kenai resident Wilbur William Geary died at his home on Friday, May 18, 2001. He was 74.

A memorial service is planned for 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Mount Redoubt Baptist Church in Kenai. A reception will follow the service at the church. Guests are asked to bring a dish. Lee and Roy Moore will officiate. His ashes will be spread in Cook Inlet at a later date.

Mr. Geary was born Dec. 1, 1926, in Storm Lake, Iowa. He completed school until the ninth grade.

Mr. Geary moved to Alaska on April 15, 1982, and lived in Anchorage for two years and Kenai for 15 years. He worked as a janitor and in farming. He retired from IBM in Minnesota in 1982. Mr. Geary was a member of the Mount Redoubt Baptist Church. He gave a home to more than one or two strays. He loved his painting, fishing and hunting.

"Wilbur and Bernette were married for 18 years. They were very happy. Wilbur will be missed, but he left us all lots of memories, good and bad. But we will remember all the good. He would give anyone almost anything if he could. Wilbur loved to paint his pictures and take rides to Homer to watch the ocean and look at the eagles, " his family said.

Mr. Geary is survived by his wife, Bernette Geary; sisters, Martha McMurchie, Margaret Eggert, and Rene Ammend; brothers, Tom and Jay Geary; son Russell Geary; stepsons, Kenneth and James Haag; daughter Theresa Watson; stepdaughters, Barbara Torgler, and Katherine Sterling; and his grandkids, Christina, Brett, Mary Jo, Paul, Gary Jr., Robert, Aaron, Patrick, Seth, Kari, Sara and James Jr.; and three great-grandkids.

Memorial donations may be sent to Bernette Geary, 903 Cook St. No. B2, Kenai, AK 99611.

Arrangements were made by Peninsula Memorial Chapel.

Daniel Ray Little

Kenai resident Daniel Ray Little died Friday, May 25, 2001, in an industrial accident at the Marathon Gas Field on Kalifornsky Beach Road. He was 38.

A visitation will be held Friday at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Kenai from 7 to 9 p.m. A vigil will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church. The celebrant will be Father Richard Tero. Burial will be 1 p.m. at the Kenai City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Donald Little, Ron Holmes, Mike (Dude) Ulrick, Scott McKeirman, Tim McKeirman and John Efta. The family encourages casual dress for the services.

Mr. Little was born Dec. 30, 1962, in Panarama, Calif. He moved to Alaska in March 1969 and lived in Kenai. He was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church. He enjoyed working with his hands and was involved with his children's sports.

Mr. Little is survived by his wife, Mary; children Donald (DJ), Danielle and Samantha; mother, Audrey Little; sisters and brothers-in-law Annette and Steve Mills, Alison and Jason Feucht, and April and Jon Murdick; nieces and nephews Sonja and Sheena Mills, James and Anna Feucht, Parker Speed and Breanna, Tierra and Mykala Murdick; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Bobbie and James Blythe; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Bonnie and Raymond Speed; and his longtime friend, Ron Holmes and his family.

In lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged to the Daniel Little Memorial Fund, for his children's education, at Alaska USA Credit Union.

Arrangements were made by Peninsula Memorial Chapel.

James A. Moen

Eagle River and McGrath resident James A. Moen, died in the line of duty Monday, June 25, 2001, near Iliamna in an airplane crash. He was 49.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday on Fort Richardson Army Post, Hangar 1. Rev. Michael Nash and Rev. Scott Fuller will officiate. Burial with full military honors will be at Fort Richardson National Cemetery.

Mr. Moen was born September 29, 1951, in Seattle, Wash. He earned a bachelor of science degree from Montana State University in Bozeman, Mont. He later served honorably in the U.S. Army from 1974 until 1981, and in the Alaska Army National Guard from 1981 until the time of his death. During active duty, he had been given the Broken Wing Award.

In March 1982, Mr. Moen moved to Alaska, where he worked since January 1983 as an Alaska Fish and Wildlife Protection Officer, serving in Anchorage, Palmer, Petersburg, Soldotna and McGrath.

Hunting, fishing and flying were activities Mr. Moen enjoyed. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

"Jim's children and wife were his pride and joy. He loved to spend time with his family and many friends. He had an 'impish' sense of humor. His laughter was contagious, and he had a smile that will remain in our hearts. He will be with us always, " his family said.

Mr. Moen is survived by his wife, Anne C. Moen of Eagle River; sons, James A. Moen Jr. and Ryan J. Moen of Eagle River; daughters, Anneliese A. Moen and Megan A. Moen of Eagle River; father, Arne R. Moen of Bellevue, Wash.; mother, Marion Bergseid of Hawley, Minn.; brother, Arne R. Moen Jr. of Bellevue, Wash.; sister, Nora Moen of Everett, Wash.; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be sent to the Alaska USA Federal Credit Union for the Moen Family Educational Trust Fund.

Arrangements were made by Evergreen Memorial Chapel in Anchorage.

Mary Lou Moore

Soldotna resident Mary Lou Moore died Friday, June 29, 2001, at Regional Hospital in Seattle. She was 67.

Arrangements are pending with Peninsula Memorial Chapel.

H. Wayne Hull

The Rev. H. Wayne Hull died Monday, April 23, 2001, at his home in Winfield, Kan.

He was 81.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the United Methodist Church of the New Covenant in Kenai. The Rev. John Walters will officiate.

Services were held Monday, April 30, 2001, at Grace United Methodist Church in Winfield, Kan. The Revs. Jerre W. Nolte and Henry Murray, Drs. Patrick Simmons and James Schuppener and Mrs. Louise Schuppener officiated. Inurnment will be at Monte Toyon Camp.

The Rev. Hull was born Nov. 16, 1919, in Towanda, Kan., to Mary Shannon and Howard Hull. He was raised and educated in the Towanda area and graduated from Wichita North High School in 1937.

He married Esther Mickey Jan. 26, 1941.

The Rev. Hull received his education and training at Southwestern College and Dew Theological School in Madison, N.J.

He did postgraduate work at Wichita State University, Pennsylvania State University and Cabrillo College.

He pastored at churches in many communities, including Hicks Chapel, Woodbine, Haysville, Cheney and several in Wichita, Kan.

The Hulls spent eight years with the Methodist Missionary Service developing and building churches in Kenai and Chugiak.

The Rev. Hull also developed the Birchwood Methodist camp in Chugiak and from 1963 to 1996 was the director of the Monte Toyon Methodist Youth Camp in Aptos, Calif. He retired and moved to Winfield in 1996.

He was a member of the Lions Club, American Camping Association, Sierra Club and Civil Air Patrol.

Rev. Hull was also a member of Grace United Methodist Church and the Kansas West Conference of the United Methodist Church.

The Rev. Hull is survived by his wife, Esther Hull; sons Stephen Hull of La Selva Beach, Calif. and Daniel Hull of Watsonville, Calif.; grandchildren Aaron, Donna and Dylan; brother, Vern D. Hull of Arkansas City, Kan.; and sisters Nona Breaker and Linda Bettis both of Wichita, Yolanda Clements of St. Joseph, Mo., June Sauter of Big Sandy, Texas, Dora Graham of Arkansas City, Ark., and Aleatha Kaiser of Silsbee, Texas.

A memorial has been established with the Monte Toyon Camp and Conference Center, 220 Cloister Lane, Aptos, Calif., 95003.

Arrangements were made by Swisher-Taylor and Morris Funeral Home.

Isaiah J. Florendo

Kenai resident Isaiah James Florendo drowned on Friday, June 8, 2001, while visiting family in Oregon to attend his sister and cousin's graduations. He was 17.

A memorial will be held at the Kenai Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses on Kiana Street off Candlelight Drive on Saturday at 3 p.m. He'll be buried beside his paternal grandparents at Warm Springs, Ore.

Isaiah was born on Jan. 25, 1984, in Anchorage, and was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses on Oct. 21, 2000. He enjoyed many privileges in the congregation and had a great time in the door-to-door work, sharing the good news of God's Kingdom with all who would listen.

Isaiah home schooled most of his life. This year, as a junior in high school, he earned 19 credits at Kenai Peninsula College, maintaining a 4.0 grade point average. He planned to pursue a degree in computer technology electronics so that he might work on computer hardware. Favorite subjects included chemistry, welding and carpentry. He loved to expand his knowledge and was earning high school credit for his job at Alaska Flying Network in Kenai.

Isaiah had a zest for life and all Alaska had to offer. He hiked mountains, signing his name in the book atop the Skyline Trail three times. He canoed the Swanson River, biked Resurrection Trail, rafted the Kenai, dipnetted, camped, played basketball at the city gym and football on the beach. He was known for his pies, enjoyed reading and collecting hard-bound books, snowboarding, traveling, stage-managing his mom's shows and listening to many styles of music. He was full of wit and humor and wrote stories and poems and "the aimless meanderings of an unemployed guru." He was creating a World Wide Web page featuring thoughtful sayings and jokes. "It's fun to be eccentric, " he said when he last spoke to his mom.

"Isaiah was a well-loved, highly respected, truly admirable, outstanding young man with sterling qualities we all could learn from. He loved his friends, his family, Jehovah and the brotherhood very much, and he touched the lives of all he knew, young and old, with his ready smile, willingness to help, positive outlook, spontaneity and personal integrity, " his family said. "He delighted in a challenge and was confident he could meet each one. Knowing him was a joy, an honor and a blessing. We are eager to meet him again in the resurrection here on Earth."

Isaiah is survived by his parents, Cindy and Rocco Sanguinetti, of Kenai, and Brent and Theresa Florendo, of Talent, Ore.; brothers Aaron, Micah, Varian and Sacha; sisters Chava, Brandy, Felicia and Aja; grandparents Pat Robinson and Henry and Annie Sanguinetti; aunts, uncles, and cousins Shelly and Ken Peterson, and their children Kristi, Chip and Rocky; Sylvie, James, Loren and Marielle Florendo; Joanne, Tommie, Aaron, Shane and Hazel Smith; Toni Florendo; Junior Sutterlee; Laura and Pat Mullen; Mark and Frank Sanguinetti; Ramona, Len, Ashley, Aaron, Hope and Julian Stowe; and others; brother-in-law Tony Blomstrom; nephews Kai, Rylan and Keelan; and niece, Morgan. He will be deeply missed by his lifelong friends Jacob and Kelly, hiking partner Ken; other moms, dads, brothers and sisters, so many very dear to his heart.
