Leslie Bayles Jr., 83, of the Old Salem Community died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2008 at Providence Hospital in Mobile.
Bayles was a lifelong resident of Monroe County. He was an active member of Old Salem Baptist Church where he served as church record keeper and groundskeeper for many years. He worked for the City of Monroeville as a maintenance utility worker.
Survivors include one brother, Roy Lee Bayles of Frisco City and two sisters, Margie Dyal of Frisco City and Alene Gregson of Uriah.
Services were held Saturday, Dec. 6 at 10 a.m. at Old Salem Baptist Church with Rev. Keith Johnson officiating. Burial followed in the Old Salem Cemetery in the Old Salem Community.

Freddie Hestle Clausell
Jones Unity Funeral Home, Monroeville
Freddie Hestle Clausell, 85, of Monroeville died Friday, Dec. 5, 2008 at Monroe County Hospital.
Clausell was a native and lifelong resident of Monroe County. He graduated from BIA and was in the US Navy. He was self-employed and a member of Bethel Baptist Church where he served as a trustee and former church secretary.
Survivors include one son, Hestle (Marie) Clausell Jr. of Mobile; one daughter, Janice Faye Leggitte of Montgomery; and one sister, Saluda Thompson of Mobile.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 11 at 1 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church of Monroeville with Rev. Ywell Cunningham, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Ralph Leon Crutchfield
Craver’s Funeral Home, Brewton
Ralph Leon Crutchfield, 61, died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2008 in an Alabaster hospital.
Crutchfield was born in Lenox and had been a resident of Pelham since 2002, coming from Mobile.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Fred Crutchfield and Lula Jerkins Crutchfield.
Survivors include a brother, John Wayne (Debbie) Crutchfield of Range.
Services were held on Friday, Dec. 5 at 2 p.m. at Hartwood Methodist Church with Rev. Thomas Smith officiating. Burial followed in Hartwood Cemetery.

William David Gulsby
Monroe Chapel, Frisco City
William David Gulsby, 72, of Mexia died Friday, Dec. 5, 2008 at his home.
Gulsby was a lifelong resident of Monroe County. He was a member of Community Chapel Holiness Church. He worked with Frisco City Manufacturing Company and he also owned a fresh produce truck farm business.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Wanda Faye Lambert.
Survivors include is wife, Annie Gulsby of Mexia; two sons, Gerald Gulsby of Excel and David Earl Gulsby of Foley; three daughters, Mary Ann Lambert of Goodway, Ann Brooks of Excel and Brenda Salter of Evergreen; one brother, William Leon Gulsby of Pensacola, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services were held Sunday, Dec. 7 at 2 p.m. at Monroe Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Dale Aplin officiating. Burial followed in Poplar Springs Cemetery in Uriah.

Dorsie M. Nord of Monroeville died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2008.

Oscar Leslie Peoples
Jones Unity Funeral Home, Monroeville
Oscar Leslie Peoples, 66, of Monroeville died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2008 at his home.
Peoples was a native of Linden but had lived in Monroe County for many years. He was a graduate of Union High School of Monroeville and a member of Limestone Baptist Church of Monroeville.
Survivors include his wife, Annie Peoples of Repton; two brothers, Charlie E. Peoples and Joe L. Peoples, both of Monroeville and two sisters, Yvonne Wesley of Monroeville and Mary Malone of Frisco City.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 13 at 2:30 p.m. at Limestone Baptist Church in Monroeville. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Thomas Albert Pullen
Johnson Funeral Home, Monroeville
Mr. Thomas Albert Pullen 85, died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2008, at his home.
He was a native of Monroe County and a 30-year resident of Brewton, Alabama. He was valedictorian of his high school ciass. World War II Navy Veteran, Auburn University graduate, Certified Life Underwriter (CLU), Rotary Club member and a successful businessman for over 30 years. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Brewton where he served as a deacon.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Rev. and Mrs. L.M. Pullen; two children, Janet Pullen and U.S. Army Captain David L. Pullen.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ernestine Floyd Pullen of Brewton; three children, Martha Ann McNeil (Micky) of Frisco City, Jan Craver (Marshall) of Mobile, Tim Pullen (Sybil) of Atlanta, Ga.; eight grandchildren, Desha Ackerman, Amanda Tatum, Whitney Hampton, Scott Craver, John Craver, Dru McNeil, Russ Pullen, and John David Pullen; four great-grandchildren; Macaulay Ackerman, Christian Ackerman, Hank Ackerman and Gavin McNeil, three sisters; Dorothy Albritton and Ruth Reed of Atmore, Marvette Godwin of McDavid, FL, one brother, James Pullen ofAtmore.
Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 8, at 1:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Brewton with the Rev. John Mathieu officiating. Burial followed at Shiloh Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Frisco City.
Pallbearers were Micky McNeil, Marshall Craver, Scott Craver, John Craver, Russ Pullen, John David Pullen, Matthew Ackerman and Garland Chaudron. Honorary pallbearers were Richard Tracey, Christian Ackerman, Gavin McNeil and Hank Ackerman.

Arthur Eugene Stabler
Monroe Chapel, Frisco City
Arthur Eugene Stabler, 76, of Franklin died Friday, Dec. 5, 2008 at his home.
Stabler was a wood yard supervisor. He was a former resident of Mobile but had lived most of his life in Monroe County. He was a member of Faith Chapel Assembly of God Church and a former member of the Masons.
Survivors include his wife, Audrey Stabler of Franklin; one son, Michael Eugene Stabler Sr. of Franklin; one daughter, Lesa Faye Majors of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sisters, Cennie McKinley of Franklin and Willie Dell Swanner of Vredenburgh; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one step-grandchild.
Services were held Monday, Dec. 8 at 2 p.m. at Faith Chapel Assembly of God Church in Franklin with Sister Mary Watford Stabler and Rev. Dusty Coover officiating. Burial followed in Corinth Deer Cemetery in Franklin.

Elizabeth H. Titterud
Johnson Funeral Home, Monroeville
Elizabeth H. Titterud, 91, of Monroeville died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2008 at Westminister Skilled Care Facility in Spanish Fort.
Titterud was a long-time resident of Monroeville. She was a graduate of Southern Methodist University. She taught school at Monroe Academy and Monroeville Elementary School. She had lived in Houston, Texas, Mandeville, La. and Ashdown, Ark. where her husband, Rev. Vincent O. Titterud, pastored churches prior to the Monroeville Presbyterian Church. She moved to Westminister Village in Spanish Fort in 2000.
Survivors include her husband, Vincent O. Titterud; a son, David (Ruby) Titterud; a sister, Marian Hardy; and sisters-in-law, Wilma Hardy, Corinne Titterud, Irma Rose and Jeanne Martin.
Services where held Monday, Dec. 8 at 10 a.m. at Monroeville Presbyterian Church. Burial followed at Pineville Cemetery in Monroeville.
The family requests that memorial gifts to a church or charity of your choice be made in lieu of flowers.

James Otis Travis
Penn’s Funeral Home, Monroeville
James Otis Travis, 69, of Brewton died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2008 at Monroe County Hospital.
Travis was a native of Beatrice and had lived in Monroe County most of his youth. He was a retired US Army Sargeant First Class after 21 years of service receiving a Good Conduct Medal and awarded Marksman (Rifle) Sharpshooter. He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Annie Grace Travis of Brewton; two sons, James Otis Travis of Tampa, Fla. and Ronald Travis of Brewton; six daughters, Bennie Ruth Stonewall of Moss Point, Miss., Robin Nettles of Cleveland, Ohio, Cynthia Jones of Duretta, Ga., Renae Lidell of Los Angeles, Calif., Jacquetta Gardner of Birmingham and Dianna Travis of Tampa; five sisters, Mattie M. Simmons, Dorothy Brewton and Ella Stallworth, all of Brewton, Elois Stallworth of Mobile and Shirley Stanton of Peterman; 28 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Public visitation will be Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Penn’s Chapel. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 13 at 1 p.m. at Tabernacle Baptist Church of Beatrice with Rev. Antonio Baxter officiating. Burial will follow in Pineville Cemetery in Beatrice.

Ben Beasley Jr.
Jones Unity Funeral Home, Monroeville
Ben Beasley Jr., 59, of Monroeville died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2009 at Monroe County Hospital.
Beasley was a native and lifelong resident of Monroe County. He was a member of Morning Star Baptist Church of Monroeville.
Survivors include, one son, Derrick Autrey of Mobile; one brother, Elder Lee (Elouise) Beasley of Monroeville; and five sisters, Louise (Lee) Kyles of Monroeville, Mary (Leslie) Portis of Evergreen, Annie Stinson of Suitland, Mo., Geraldine Nettles of Macon, Ga. and Geanetta Hunter of Los Angeles, Calif.
Services were held Sunday, Jan. 18 at 3 p.m. at Morning Star Baptist Church in Monroeville with Rev. John A. Tucker officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
