Beverly Anne Moody Hill

Funeral for Beverly Anne Moody Hill, who died Sunday, May 25, 1997, in an automobile accident in Lawrence County, was held Wednesday, May 28. The 2 p.m. service was held at Mt. View Baptist Church with Brother Ted Vafeas officiating.

Burial was in the East Lawrence Memorial Gardens with Parkway Funeral Home directing.

Ms. Hill was born in Morgan County to the late Annie D. Dearman and Jonas G. Moody Jr. She worked 15 years at Gordon's Cleaners in Decatur, as a seamstress.

Survivors include two sons, Anthony McCoy Hill of Trinity and Timothy Lemuel Hill of Ft. Ritchie, Naryland; two daughters, Tena Hill Gonzalez of Trinity and Angla Hill Destrempt of Fort Knox, Ky.; her father; two brothers, Jack Moody of Columbus, Miss. and Wilson Slayton of Columbus, Miss.; a sister, Elesia Reinhardt of Decatur; and four grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Timothy Hill, Anthony Hill, Jamie Vafeas, Gerald Franks, Thomas White and Ricky White.

William Kenneth "Bill" Stone

78, Haleyville

William Kenneth "Bill" Stone died Sunday, June 1, 1997, at his residence.

The funeral was held Tuesday, June 3, 2 p.m., at Nichols Funeral Home in Haleyville. Ministers, Billy Holcomb and Jerry Mardant, officiating the 2 p.m. service.

Burial was in the Ashridge Methodist Church Cemetery.

He served in the U.S. Army and received numerous medals.

Survivors include his wife, Ola Pugh Stone; two sons, John Stone of Moulton and Frank Stone of Haleyville; two daughters, Joyce McDonald of Double Springs and JoAnne Hendon of Jasper; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild; two brothers, James Leon Stone of Haleyville and A. B. (Penny) Stone of Adamsville; three sisters, Lovirda Ward of Birmingham, Ossie Holder of Florence and Mary Tate of Alexander City.

Kenneth Loyal Allen

49, 3-M employee, Trinity

Funeral for Kenneth Loyal Allen, who died Monday, May 26, 1997, at his residence, was held Thursday, May 29. The 11 a.m. service was held at Roselawn Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Dennis Ivy officiating.

Burial was in the Roselawn Cemetery.

He was born in Lawrence County. Mr. Allen was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Allen.

Survivors include two sons, Anthony Allen and Andy Allen, both of Trinity; a daughter, Angie Shepard of Trinity; four brothers, Cecil Allen and Grady Allen, both of Hillsboro, Larry Allen and Jack Allen, both of Trinity; two sisters, Rachel Cantrell of Trinity and Regina Green of Moulton; and six grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Mike Allen, Jeff Allen, Shane Allen, David Cantrell, Jonathan Allen and Rodney Allen.

Willard B. Alexander

76, retired welder and mechanic, Moulton

Willard B. Alexander died Saturday, May 31, 1997, at his residence.

The funeral was held Monday, June 2, 2 p.m., at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Jackie Shelton and Hoyt Nelson officiating.

Burial was in the Moulton Memory Gardens with Elliott Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Alexander was born in Moulton. He was a member of the Moulton Church of Christ. Mr. Alexander was retired from Monsanto Chemical Co.

He is survived by his wife, Ophelia Parker Alexander; one son, Alton Alexander of Moulton; one daughter, Anita Alexander Lamon of Trinity; three sisters, Inez Lang of Falkville, Erin Glover and Agnes Wade of Moulton; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Nephews were pallbearers.

Mary Jane Borden

94, homemaker, Moulton

Funeral for Mary Jane Borden was held Sunday, June 1, 2 p.m., at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Franklin County with the Revs. Wayne Dotson and Miller Tittle officiating.

Burial was in the Oak Grove Cemetery with Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Borden died Friday, May 30, 1997, at National Healthcare Center in Moulton.

She was born in Lauderdale County to Tommy and Carolyn Martin. Mrs. Borden was a member of Bethsaida Baptist Church. She was the widow of James Borden.

Survivors include four sons, Roy Borden of Mount Hope, Jimmy Borden of Courtland, Orbia Borden of Conyers, Ga. and Clarence Borden of Jonesboro, Ark.; five daughters, Flora Chaney of Russellville, Beulah Rains of Tupelo, Miss., Flossie Borden of Mount Hope, Helen Borden of Moulton and Opal Clark of Conyers; 48 grandchildren; and 141 great-grandchildren.

Grandsons and nephews were the pallbearers.

Lattie D. Fretwell

84, homemaker, Town Creek

Lattie D. Fretwell died Wednesday, May 28, 1997, at Lawrence Baptist Medical Center.

The funeral was held Friday, May 30, 3 p.m., at Lawrence Funeral chapel with the Revs. Jerry Strickland and Phil Kimbrough officiating.

Burial was in the Moulton Memory Gardens.

She was born in Lawrence County and was a member of Cave Springs Freewill Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Eugene Fretwell of Moulton and Harold Fretwell of Hatton; two brothers, P. W. Kimbrough of Trinity and Howard Kimbrough of Russellville; one sister, Mattie Clark of Russellville; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Ronnie Louallen, Ronnie Tucker, Tony Berryman, Mike Redding, Audrey Kimbrough and Rayburn Pierce.

Vernon Cannon Alred

67, truck driver, Decatur

A graveside service was held for Vernon Cannon Alred on Friday, May 30, 11 a.m., at Shiloh Cemetery with Rev. Fay Tippet officiating and Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Alred died Wednesday, May 28, 1997, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Birmingham.

He was born to Arley and Hattie Barran Alred. Mr. Alred was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a Baptist.

Survivors include two sons, Steve Alred and Darryl Alred, both of Decatur; one daughter, Beverly Alred Lindsey of Decatur; one brother, Gerald Alred of Moulton; one sister, Helen Jacobs of Augusta, Ga.; and six grandchildren.

Pallbearers were George Jacobs Jr., Andrew Jacobs, Coy Alred, Jean Alred, Randy Rice and Andy Rice.

Billy Ray Sparks Jr.

41, construction worker, Huntsville

Funeral for Billy Ray Sparks Jr. was held Thursday, May 29, 2 p.m., at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home in Trussville with the Revs. Kenneth Bullard and Randy Bonner officiating.

Burial was in the Jefferson Memorial Gardens East.

Mr. Sparks died Monday, May 26, 1997, in Huntsville.

He was born in Birmingham and was self employed for 20 years.

He is survived by his parents, Billy Ray and Teeny Sparks of Cropwell; one sister, Brenda Walley of Pelham; and one brother, Bruce Sparks of Moulton.

Pallbearers were Steve Mize, Rick Mize, Mack Windham, Charlie Lewis, Woody Burke and Larry Testin.

Lillie Michael

90, homemaker, Moulton

Funeral for Lillie Michael was held Tuesday, June 3, 11 a.m., at Lawrence Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Edward Tollison officiating.

Burial was in the Rocksprings Cemetery.

Ms. Michael died Sunday, June 1, 1997, at Parkway Medical Center.

She was born in Alabama.

Survivors include three nephews, Edward Taylor of Mount Hope, Bill Taylor of St. Joseph, Tenn. and Robert Taylor of Hartselle.

Pallbearers were Jimmy Shields, Steven Shields, Rondel Trapp, Brad Trapp and Lance Wilbanks.

Meation Ray

61, ConAgra retiree, Moulton

Funeral for Meation Ray was held Tuesday, June 3, 2 p.m., at Lawrence Funeral Home with the Revs. Ray Phillips and Don Morris officiating.

Burial was in the Old Liberty Cemetery.

Mr. Ray died Sunday, June 1, 1997, at Decatur General Hospital.

He was born in Lawrence County and was a member of Old Liberty Congregational Christian Church. He was a truck driver when he worked at ConAgra.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanette Ray; one son, DeWayne Ray of Moulton; and one sister, Georgia Brewington of Moulton.

Pallbearers were Billy Brewington, Marty McLemore, Felix Daniel, Lendon Daniel, John Daniel and Jerry Clemons.
