Services for John Blackwell Sr., 69, were at 1 .m. Feb. 16 at New Hope Baptist church with Rev. Roosevelt Parker officiating. Burial was in Greenlawn Cemetery. Anniston Funeral Services directed.
Mr. Blackwell died Feb. 11 at Carraway Methodist Medical Center in Bir-mingham.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Rachel Robinson Blackwell of Jacksonville; two sons, John Blackwell Jr., and Stacey Blackwell of Atlanta; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Cornelia and Gary Williams of Anniston, Deborah and Javid Aslam and Tanga Black of Texas; four sisters and a brother-in-law, Annie Laurel and Andrew Smith of Milwaukee, Margarine Baker of Attalla, Dorothy Westbrook of Gadsden and Vivian Carnes of Milan, Tenn.; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; her mother-in-law, Buna Robinson of White Plains; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Robinson of Anniston and Mildred Nunn of White Plains; an aunt, Lillie Bowen of Anniston; brothers-in-law and their wives, Olen and Jerelen Robinson of Choccolocco and Roosevelt and Barbara Rob-inson of Raleigh, N. C.
Pallbearers were deacons of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church.
Mr. Blackwell was a Jack-sonville native and member of New Hope Baptist Church. He retired from M&H Valve after 38 years. He enjoyed gardening and fishing.
CAVENDER

Services for Andrea Denise Cavender, 34, of Birmingham, formerly of Jacksonville, were at 1 p.m. Feb. 18 at Brown and Kughn Memory Chapel, Anniston. Revs. Gene Burgess and Mike Oliver officiated. A graveside service followed at Forestlawn Gardens with Rev. Dave Roberts officiating.
Ms. Cavender died Feb. 15 in Birmingham.
Survivors include her fiancé, Raul Baguer II of Birmingham; her parents, Leon and Jannie Thomason of Jacksonville and Chan and Betty Cavender of Rome, N. Y.; a sister, Kandas Cavender of McDonough, Ga., and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Cavender of Heflin.
Her grandparents, Nathan and Mary Howard, and her aunt, Connie Burgess, preceded her in death.
Pallbearers were John Paul Baguer, Richard Stubbs, Thomas Sharp, Delano Howard, Jerry Stubbs and Larry Stubbs. Honorary pallbearers were employees of JDS Pharmaceutical Company.
Ms. Cavender was a native of Calhoun County where she lived most of her life.
She was a graduate of Pleasant Valley High School and Jacksonville State University where she received a master’s degree in psychology.
She was a member of Angel Grove Baptist Church and was employed with JDS Phar-maceutical Company for the past three years.
CLAY

Services for Herbert Wayne Clay, 60, of White Plains were at 2 p.m. Feb. 19 at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Williams and Rev. Ralph Rhodes officiating.
Mr. Clay died Feb. 16 at Brookwood Medical Center in Birmingham. Burial was in Anniston Memorial Gardens. Gray Brown-Service Mort-uary directed.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Clay of White Plains; two step children, Jerrad Murray and Regina Flemings; two step grandchildren, Keith and Vance Flemings; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Doris McCulley of Tallapoosa, Ga., Mary and James Williams of Anniston, Judy and Jackie Stovall of Oxford and Thelma and Jerry Spears of Jacksonville; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald and Kay Williams of Thomaston, Ga., Curtis and Beverly Clay of Jacksonville and Tommy and Cheryl Clay of White Plains.
His parents, Whit and Ruby Clay, a brother, Jimmy Clay, and two sisters, Dorothy Williams and Margaret Moses, preceded him in death.
Pallbearers were nephews. Honorary pallbearers were members of his Sunday School Class.
Mr. Clay was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. Many years ago, he worked at No-Me Bowling Lanes in Anniston and later at Grub Mart, formerly Young’s.

POORE

Graveside services for Marvin Lee Poore, were at 2 p.m. Feb. 16 at Bethlehem Baptist Church cemetery with Rev. Greg Dempsey officiating.
Ms. Poore died Feb. 13 at Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center.
Survivors include three brothers, Earl Poore of Jacksonville, David Poore of Oklahoma and Jimmy Poore of Indiana, and several nieces and nephews.
Her parents, John J. and Lillie M. Poore; two sisters, Geneva Barnhill and Lillie Mea Phillips and four brothers, Leonard Poore, Lewis Poore, Melvin Poore and Gerald Poore preceded Ms. Poore in death.

ALLEN

Graveside memorial services for Arthur Gordon Allen, 90, will be at 2 p.m. March 1 at K. L. Brown Cremation Center with Rev. Dr. Bill Etheridge officiating. Burial will be in Green-lawn Mem-orial Gard-ens
Mr. Allen died Feb. 22 at Reg- ional Med-ical Center in Anniston.
Survivors include a daughter, Deborah Allen of El Cajon, Calif.; a son, David A. Allen of San Francisco; a niece, and two nephews.
His wife, Lillian Coburn Allen of Ohio, and his daughter, Jennifer Allen, preceded him in death.
After graduating from White Plains High School, he attended Jacksonville State Normal School from 1934-36 and earned a teaching certificate.
Mr. Allen was member of First United Methodist Church and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He served in the Army Air Corp as an aviation cadet. In 1940 he entered in the United States Air Force and attained the rank of lieutenant colonel.
In 1958 he taught at Jacksonville High School and taught Jacksonville State University extension courses. Between the end of World War II and the Korean War, he was recalled to active duty.
Mr. Allen was a Land Use Planner for the county of San Bernardino, Calif. He received a master’s degree in planning from the University of Redlands in California and was a zoning administrator for County of San Diego. Upon retirement he moved back to Jacksonville and worked as a planning director for the East Alabama Regional Planning Commission.

JAMES

Services for Jesse Millard James, 73, were at 2 p.m. March 1 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home with Rev. Randall Reynolds officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Gardens.
Mr. James died Feb. 26 at Jacksonville Medical Center.
Survivors include his wife, Charlene James; two daughters, Teresa Miller and Diane James of Jacksonville; two sons, Chris James and Don James of Piedmont; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were sons and nephews.
Mr. James was a native of Mississippi and resident of Anniston and Calhoun County for 36 years. He retired from the U. S.Army with 22 years of service and retired from FMC with 20 years of service.
BLEAKLEY

Graveside services for Yvonne Harrelson Bleakley, 74, were at 2 p.m. March 4 in the city cemetery with Rev. Greg Walker officiating. K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center was in charge.
Mrs. Bleakley died March 2 at her residence.
Survivors include her husband, Patrick Bleakley; a son and daughter-in-law, Barry E. and Kay Penny of Huntsville; a daughter and son-in-law, Sonia (Penny) and William Douglas of Gainesville, Fla.; five grandchildren, Brandon E. Penny and Kylen Penny of Tampa, Fla., Megan Penny of Huntsville, Bryan Winters and Laura Winters of Gainesville; three great-grandchildren, Brenden and Bradley Penny, and Piper Kate Williams; two nieces, Peggy Tucker of Ranburne and Glenda Williams of Piedmont; one nephew, Michael Robertson of White Plains; and a great-nephew, Joey Robertson of Ohatchee.
Pallbearers were grandsons and nephews.
Mrs. Bleakley, known also as “Flutie”, was a lifelong resident of Jacksonville. She had worked for Crow Drug, Dr. Williams, First National Bank and the city. Memorial donations may be made to Countryside Hospice or the Arthritis Foundation.
GAINES

Services for James Elbert Gaines, 82, were at 2 p.m. March 4 in the chapel of K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center. Rev. Scott Smith officiated. Burial was in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Gaines died March 2 at Regional Medical Center in Anniston. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Dulcie Andrews Gaines; a daughter and son-in-law, Denise and Bo Batey of Jacksonville; a son and daughter-in-law, Lanny and Sharon Gaines of Jacksonville; a sister, Thelma Jacobs of Weaver; three grandsons, Brandon Miller and his wife, Brandi, Brennan Batey and Micah Gaines; several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Brandon Miller, Brennan Batey, Eric Brasher, Rudy Rooks, Randy Rooks and Eddie Jacobs.
Mr. Gaines was a member of West Point Baptist Church and a World War II Army veteran. He enjoyed fishing and gardening.
